However, this debates seems more important with the rise in teenagers having plastic surgery and altering their bodies. According to the cover story in today's USA Today,Cosmetic Surgeries: What Children Will Do to Look 'Normal', over 160,000 children had plastic surgery in 2008. The story mentions surgeries ranging from creating an outer ear to a teenage girl who had liposuction because she felt her calves were too thick. Which one or both constitute the surgery being medically necessary? Does psychological well being justify plastic surgery? Unlike the last push for reform in the early 1990's, even the medical industry is on board. The United States is the only developed nation that does not have a national health care system. President Obama has developed a proposal to cover uninsured Americans but the Republicans have concerns over the impact it will have on Americans and their current healthcare options and quality. What an inspiration! Greensburg, Kansas was almost completely destroyed two years ago by a tornado. Since then, the community has joined together to rebuild. The community, knowing it was rebuilding from scratch, decided this was an opportunity to better their community and to give their children opportunities. In then end, they are becoming an example to the rest of the world on how to live, build, and grow in an environmentally friendly way. Their new homes, city buildings, and businesses are all energy efficient using technologies such as solar, wind, and geothermal power. Many are concerned that this is the beginning of a new epidemic while others are cautioning the public to remain calm. An influenza outbreak does not always result in an epidemic. The United States is checking people at border crossings for any signs of illness to help reduce the chance of it spreading. He may have been the ring leader for the largest financial fraud scheme in American history but he was definitely not the first. Madoff used what is called a ponzi scheme in which investors are paid a high return based on the money from new investors instead of from profits. This type of scheme was named after Charles Ponzi, who was not the first to use such a scheme, but the first to be known nationally for this type of fraud.
