There are many different types of boating licenses, and each state has its own regulations regarding who may operate a boat and what type of license they'll need.

The speed at which a boat is driven determines whether a person needs to be license to operate the boat. If the boat is motor powered and is driven at a speed of 10 knots of more requires a boating license for operation. Ten knots is the speed at which a boat generally starts to plane or skim off the top of the water.

A general boating license is for persons age 16 and over that allows them to operate a motor boat. Young people age 12 to 16 can also obtain a boating license under some specific stipulations. They must:

- Be accompanied by someone who has a general license - Not exceed a speed of 20 knots - Never travel at 10 knots or more before sunrise or after sunset - Never tow a water skier or wake boarder

Your boating license can be good for either twelve months or three years, but you will save money by selecting the three-year option. How do you go about obtaining your boat license? It's similar to getting your driver's license.

You will be required to complete a boating course and successfully pass a test at the conclusion of the course. You will need to know how a boat operates, how it needs to be cared for, and what the general boating rules are. The course will teach you boating safety as well as give you ways to "scope out" the weather for safe boating.

There are many places where you can obtain a boating license. Check with your local marina or department of recreation to get information on boating classes available. There are even places online where you can take a boating class designed to ultimately earn you your boating license.

The choice to take an online course versus a "real life" course is up to you. However, keep in mind that the best way to learn a new skill is to get out there and do it. The presence of water and other boats around you will make you a better boater. Plus, you can depend on your instructor to answer questions and offer you tips.

Responsible boating means obeying the laws of your state when it comes to getting a boating license. Many states will different in their requirements, so you'll need to become familiar with your own state's regulations. Once you have your boating license in hand, you can get out there and have fun! But remember to boat responsibly!
Basically, it is what it says it - a school where you learn what you need to know about boating. The United States Coast Guard recommends that all boaters take an accredited course in boating at a certified boating school. They have proven that boaters who participate in boating school have a markedly better chance of avoiding a boating accident when they have taken these types of classes.

There are many places where you can find a certified boating school where you can learn about boating safely. Begin by looking online. You'll be able to find a boating school near where you are just by doing a quick Google search. Take a look at the list you'll see pop up and choose a school with a good reputation.

What makes a good boating school? Well, first and foremost, they should have the credentials and experience to be able to teach boating basics to the general public. See if they are accredited by the United States Coast Guard. What qualifications does the instructor have? What are some of the areas they will cover in school? Also, make sure that their price range is within your budget.

Some companies offer boating schools online. They will allow you to take classes from the comfort of your own home. You'll read through their provided materials and then take various tests to gauge your progress through the course. At the end, you'll take a comprehensive exam covering all the material in the classes which you will need to pass to become certified. Online boating schools require concentration and dedication, so be sure you have the time and effort to devote to it.

Look to the local marina as well for a qualified boating school. Marinas have on staff boating professionals who conduct classes on a regular basis. The advantage to a real-life school is that you can have your questions answered right there and you will most likely get some hands-on experience in piloting a boat.

Finally, many boat dealerships will also conduct boating schools or at the very least, they will have information on upcoming schools in your area. Just contact them and inquire about what boating schools they know about.

You will become a much better boater when you take classes at a boating school. Even if you are an experienced boater, you can always use a refresher course to learn about new innovations and regulations in the boating industry. Look for a boating school that will meet your needs and then take it as seriously as you would "regular" school.
Boating enthusiasts say that a boating vacation is really the ultimate trip. You have a lot of options for your trip, and the possibilities really are endless.

Most people take a vacation to escape the stresses of everyday life. Some like to go hiking, others choose a tropical beach, and still others like the resort vacations. But a truly great way to find serenity and peace on your next vacation is to take a boating vacation.

The first step in planning your boating vacation is to pick a destination. Have you always wanted to motor boat along the Mississippi River? Think that traveling the Gulf of Mexico would be an ideal getaway? Maybe you'd just be happy on a mountain lake lolling the days away on the water. The choice is up to you, and you have many.

If you already own a boat, you'll just need to plan out a route to your destination and haul it there. If you don't have a boat, that's alright. You can still have a memorable boating vacation with a boat rental. A lot of places where boating is popular have many places where you can rent a house boat, a cabin cruiser, even a speedboat. The rates are usually quite reasonable, and you'll even get a quick boating lesson from the pros.

You have a lot of choices in activities during your boating vacation. Fishing is always a good choice for the angler in the family. You can seek out some secluded beaches and relax on the sand. Water sports like skiing, wake boarding, and tubing are always popular during boating vacations. Or, you can choose to simply relax on the deck and take in the sights along the way.

Boating vacations are fun for the whole family - even the kids. Remember, that togetherness is what's important, so when you plan a boating vacation for your family, make sure everyone can agree on the destination as well as the activities you will be doing. Hopefully, there's something to do that everyone will enjoy, and when you work together, your vacation will be a thrill!

Next time you're feeling overwhelmed at work, plan a boating vacation. If you're tired of worrying about all of the details of life, plan a boating vacation. Just sit back and imagine the cool, clear water, the sounds of nature, and the beauty of a sunset from the deck. Then your boating vacation will be as unique and relaxing as you need it to be.
There are numerous blogs, articles and designs available. It is very ideal to find out particularly about the kinds of support a designer offers, whether online forums are available where you can converse with the builders regarding the design you are interested in, aside from that ask others for their opinion about a certain design and the reputation of the designer.

Setting up some selection criteria is a very good idea prior to searching for a particular boat plan. Some of the deciding factor in choosing a design is the boat's capacity; is it intended exclusively for rowing, sailing motoring or a combination of some these? Take into account that boats which are suitable for rivers and sheltered estuaries will most likely not be suitable for the open sea, and for boating enthusiast who wants to travel around some shallow creeks and backwaters, deep water boats are certainly not suitable to use.

Most of the information that you'll find in the internet can be quite useful specifically when it comes to choosing the best plan for wooden boats, however searchers should observe some precaution. Look for information or background pertaining to the individual who created the designs, their boat building experience, whether they really know what they are talking about. The guarantees they provide (if any) behind their plans if it is for sale. Using anonymous designs must be avoided in order to keep away from ending up wasting a lot of your precious time and money on bogus plans.

You can have a better chance of succeeding in your project if there are other individuals who have utilized your plans as well, that being said it is a good move to look for any testimonials available for the wooden boat design you intend to use. Ensure that the plans have been both tried and tested by other boat builders out there.

In choosing your plans for wooden boats, it is essential to make a self assessment with regards to your skill in boat building, for beginners it is highly recommended using plywood construction and easy step-by-step instructions.
Yes, I do enjoy it but it is a lot of work if you want to be productive. Let me tell you what it takes to make it work. If you have what it takes, let me hear from you

The challenging part.

To begin with, Florida Yacht Brokers have served a 2 year apprenticeship as sales people, before a full Broker status can be attained. Each state is different. As a Broker you may own the company or simply work as an Employering Broker for a parent company. As an owner/Broker as I do with Paradise Yachts, operation of a yacht sales business includes merchandising, sales, marketing, accounting, banking, website design and building, search engine optimization, tax collecting, and bottle washing. So I must allocate my time dependent upon what must be done to keep the business operating. But for the role of this article, we'll just be presuming you will want to become a yacht sales person.

To begin, the primary matter is you have to like yachts; no, you have to live yachts and boating. But there is more. You have to know yachts and yachts like the skin of your chin; it's got to be your life. You will have to be able to talk boats in detail; your clients will certainly be able to do so.

Do you currently own a boat? Have you previously owned a yacht? What is your experience operating a yacht? Your clients will want to talk about how things function while underway, how to dock a twin screw boat, and how electronics operate. Do you walk the talk? Have you ever done it? Can you direct your customers based upon experience?

What Is your personality? Are you out going and able to reach out to customers? Most of the people you meet will be complete strangers.

Do you view yourself a self-starter? Are you willing to make it happen; You you do not get up to work, no one will be there to remind you?

Do you possess a basic sales perspective? how about customer service, what do you think of that?

Can you survive without a paycheck for 1, 2, 3 months? It does and will happen. Yacht Brokers only get paid when we sale a yacht. You must have good money management skills.

Will you work seven days a week, every day including holidays if needed? I work every day, usually twelve hour days. Customers look at yachts everyday and you must be ready to take the telephone call or respond to the e-mail at any time.

Are you computer literate? Are you comfortable on a website? You will need to own a robust computer, printer, and scanner and have internet access to upload boat listings online.

Are you an accomplished photographer? Can you use a digital photographic camera and use photographic software. You will needat least a 8 mega pixel digital camera. They are not cheap!

Can you pull through a full background investigation? If you want to work in Florida, it's required to obtain a license. If you work in another State, you will not be able to enter the State of Florida working as a yacht sales person.

Are you ready to shell out $600.00 every 2 years for the exclusive right of carrying that license?

Do you have a cell telephone, and/or a Blackberry; they are indispensable.

Can you come through the unbearable hot sun or endure pouring rain to show yachts to customers?

Are you willing to put up with irritating clients that often demand more than you wish to give?

Now the easy part

Can you handle a six figure income? Yes, that's right; the money you make is entirely up to you.

Do you like having fun? Yes, it's a lot of fun seeing a new, happy boat owner. And yes, we do get to have our fair share of boat rides.

Do you like forming many new acquaintances? Every stranger I meet is just a friend I have yet to make.

Do you like being the boss? In the yacht business, you get to call the shots.

In this day-and-age you can easily insulate yourself in false sense of security: passwords for emails and bank accounts, OnStar, Mapqwest, GPS in your car or on your boat. But the wonders of today's technology, while convenient, can have occasion to fail.

When it comes to boating, a false sense of security can lead to trouble at sea. "Collisions account for 80% of all reportable recreational boating accidents and 78% of non-reportable accidents, totaling an estimated insurance loss of over $450 million a year from nearly 100,000 claims," says a 2007 Hydrographic Services Review Panel report. "A major cause of claims is 'striking a submerged object' and groundings, two scenarios in which accurate NOAA surveys and charts can play a major role."

With electrical or battery failure a possibility, and only a small percentage of boats with backup power sources, relying solely on GPS or a chartplotter can be risky. It goes back to an old sailing rule: "Don't rely on one method of navigation." Richard Sillcox, NOAA's chief of Chart Update Service adds, "Technology is not foolproof, and unforeseen circumstances may affect your ability to take advantage of that technology." Among serious mariners, the consensus is always this: never rely on only one means of navigation.

The solution? Printed navigational charts. In comparison to the flash and interface of a digital-age navigation solution, a chart may be considered by some as an antique, but in the inopportune moment, when the batteries fail, it's the chart that will get you to safety.

That's not to say navigational charts have not entered the 21st century. At present NOAA (National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration) and the U.S. Coast Guard have established consistent methods of gathering cartographic data and uploading it to servers at OceanGrafix, an on-demand navigational chart printer. These daily updates allow every Ocean Grafix print-on-demand (POD) navigational chart to be 100% up to date at the time of printing.

NOAA charts include topographical information such as water depths, height of land, natural features of the seabed, details of the coastline, navigational hazards, and information on tides and man made structures.

This need-to-know-information can be yours by making sure your boat is equipped with an up-to-date navigational chart. Charts are an excellent complement to any digital/electric navigational tool. As electronic screens tend to be small and can be unreadable in bright sunlight, a chart is always readable. And the large format of a chart allows you to see the big picture and detail that would perhaps be lost on small digital screens.

NOAA lithographic charts are considered the standard when it comes to paper charts. They are the final product of NOAA's expert cartographers who collect, interpret and then apply critical chart corrections on an ongoing basis. Unlike electronics, which require boaters to pan out and zoom in, paper charts always provide the "big" picture. "Anytime you zoom in, you've lost the relationship with other parts of the chart," says Richard Sillcox, NOAA's chief of Chart Update Service. "With paper charts, you can easily see those relationships."

Another plus for having updated paper navigational charts is that electronic chart products may contain outdated NOAA data, depending upon when the cartridge or software was purchased and whether the boater has gotten the data updated.

Many recreational mariners are wary of the reliability of electronics. "Any part of electronic navigation can - and will - fail," says Jeff Siegel, a BoatU.S. member in Maine. "Failures usually happen at the worst, most inopportune time. Redundancy of electronics is helpful, but 99% of all boaters don't have any electronic backup for the failure of the GPS system. Paper charts are the ultimate backup to electronics."

In short, navigational charts are a fail-safe backup to electronic systems and in general offer the big picture when it comes to navigating. When you add in the up-to-date-at-time-of-printing features of OceanGrafix POD charts, you have the best of both worlds.
Starting out with just a few satellites, there is now at least 24 GPS satellites circulating the Earth. These devices have various, multiple applications and can be used by journalists, photographers, geologists, emergency personnel and many more.

GPS tracking has always been a a firm favorite with many sport enthusiasts, and is commonly used by bikers, marathon runners, boating and sailing enthusiasts, as well as skiers and backcountry snowboard fanatics. Private detectors find GPS technology can help them to track down a cheating spouse for example. Beware! Don't even think about cheating your spouse. You can be tracked down within minutes!

GPS systems can easily be installed on your cellphone, trendy blackberry or even on a satellite phone. It can also be applied in vehicle tracking, to track people and in military or naval covert operations. The most popular use for modern GPS systems is when applied to vehicle recovery and tracking. Stolen vehicles can now be retrieved quicker and faster.

The boating and cruise ship industry is one of the major users of this innovative, cutting-edge technology. It has now become so much easier for them to react when you hear the "man overboard" cry from fellow ship mates. He can be rescued quickly, using one of the advanced GPS Systems available.

These systems has indeed many diverse, multiple applications. Whether you're a sport addict, company owner or seeking danger, there will be a Covert GPS Tracking device to suit your every need.
So wrote Kenneth Graham in Wind in the Willows.

That could easily have been written about the boating fun available down here among the lakes in South Florida. We have Bass Boats, Pontoon Boats and of course the famous Airboat which is driven by a huge propeller mounted on the back of the boat, allowing the boats to go in a few inches of water and mostly used in the Everglades. Some time ago, one of my neighbors was seen driving his airboat on the grass. I think he stopped when he realized that he was polishing the bottom out of his boat and so he took it back into the water. The pontoon boat or Party Barge is basically two large pontoons with a platform on the top and surrounded by a railing to keep the partygoers on board. These boats can be fitted out to suit the taste of the owner for partying or fishing or just "messing about in boats." These boats come in all degrees of sophistication such as complete sound systems, barbeques, diving platforms a crane for lifting your jetski in and out of the water and of course a "rest room" which pops out of the deck for the convenience of the passengers of a more delicate disposition.

One of the very popular boats is the Bass Boat which is not a boat made out of bass, but a boat used for catching the fish which are plentiful around here. This boat usually has a large motor on the back for getting you there in a hurry and a small electric trolling motor, to be used for trolling slowly along while you dangle your hook in the water and contemplate life.

All in all a wonderful way to spend a day out with your friends or even alone if you enjoy solitary pursuits, and who doesn't from time to time.
It's possible that you might even want to call a bunch of friends or family over to show off your new toy. It's understandable that you want to get into boating immediately, but you should be aware of the many chores that have to be performed first.

You need to at least take care of some essential paperwork. The three most important sets include:

Number one on your list should be registration and title issues. Next on your list you need to pay the taxes that might still be standing. The third piece of paperwork that you must file is insurance. You can cause yourself a lot of heartache over that toy if you do not take the proper precautions, such as getting insurance. You'll find that having your friends over even after you have completed your paperwork is a horrible idea, as well. You will time to get used to the new boat, in order to show off to your friends properly.

For first time boat owners, a short safety course is definitely recommended. Though you might have spent time on other vessels in the past, each new one will be unique and different from all the others. Should the opportunity present itself, consider taking your first trip with an expert in the field of boating, who can be a guide through the basics. Maneuvers such as docking and turning in tight spaces require practice, and mistakes can be expensive! Additional passengers are dangerous if you do not make sure you feel one hundred percent comfortable at the helm first.

You have one further item to consider, even though you could now take friends onto the water with you. Naturally, since you paid a considerable sum for your new boat, you will want to take measures to protect your property. The most important item that many new owners forget to take into account is that they do not consider exactly how they are going to store their new purchase. To keep the new purchase from experiencing decay, you must protect it safely protected from the elements. Maintenance may take a lot of time, effort, and money, but you will save money in preventing problems instead of fixing them.

The best thing you can do in protecting your new boat is to purchase the right type of cover and make sure you have attached it properly. In getting a boat cover, you want to sort through the different colors and sizes and get one that is custom made for your boat. It is definitely imperative that you research carefully when picking one of the many different types of fabric. Through hard work and diligent chores, you will experience much enjoyment and fun out of boating.
If you're looking to buy a boat, then Australia's Gold Coast is without a doubt the best place to purchase one right now. As the economy sours, one place is, surprisingly, seeing a greater amount of desire -- no, not cheap groceries, but mind-boggling cheap boats, lots and lots of them.

Why is this the case? the firstly is simply that this is Australia, and not just Australia, but the enviable location known as the Gold Coast, one of the most sought after destinations for tourists, and home to some of the most magnificent coastline, beaches and open water that you'll find anywhere.

People think of this area of the world as a place for enjoying outdoor activities, including water related sports. With some of the most incredible water life and seascapes, including of course the Great Barrier Reef itself, coupled with almost endless sunny weather, more people come here each year to enjoy the seas than anywhere else. Where water is concerned, particularly as it relates to boating and boats in general, it's not just the oceans that hold the attraction. Because the Gold Coast part of Australia is also home to an astonishing canal and waterway system, with hundreds of miles of idyllic rivers and canals for exploring.

Whether you are into slowly meandering your way along the miles of canals in your floating home, or ripping through the waves in a high powered speedboat, forging your way through the ocean with the wind in your sails or entertaining family and friends on the sundeck of your yacht, there's no doubt at all that a wealth of opportunities awaits you here. It is the very fact that there are so many beautiful opportunities here, for all manner of boating experiences, that boat sales have always been hugely popular and successful. However, why should Gold Coast boat sales be any more successful now than previously?

Even though the financial crisis seems to have hit across the globe, there is always more than one way to look at any situation. What may be bad news for some people presents others with unmissable opportunities. It's just knowing where those opportunities lie. Ever considered buying a boat but assumed they were a luxury you couldn't afford? Not anymore! there weren't really enough to choose from, and the choice was too limiting? No longer!

The fact is that many people who have previously been boat owners have hit hard times, and are selling their boats now. In fact, the marketplace for boating is becoming swamp due to the many boats. you'd be hard pressed to feel anything less than spoilt now by the vast number of boats and yachts now available.

But it doesn't stop there. A price drop is virtually guaranteed for any market that becomes flooded. This is definitely what has happened with boat sales. The prices of boats have plummeted not only at Queensland's Gold Coast, but other locations as well. you'll not only have an enviable selection from which to choose, your money is going to go a great deal further than before. If not that, you can buy the boat and pay a lot less than you expected. Whether you choose to save a large sum of cash, or upgrade to the next class of boat for the same money, the choice is yours.

Boats aren't like cars and other motor vehicles, because they don't depreciate nearly as quickly. Its wear or the economic conditions effecting the financial institutions are the only two things which tend to make a boat less expensive. You're almost guaranteed that you will get the deal of a lifetime if you buy right now, as long as the boat is in good condition. Eventually the global economy will recover, making the purchase of a boat today a wise investment for the long term.

Unlike a house you can't live in, artwork you'll never appreciate, and stocks and shares you'll never own, the purchase of a boat will liberate you, granting you pleasure and joy, and keeping your money secure. the freedom of the open water, or the joy at seeing myriad colours ripple and dart around your boat as you fly over the kaleidoscope of marine life beneath you. Though Australia's Gold Coast is selling boat after boat and may have just the right boat for you, the sea is where you really want to be.
There are many good used fishing boats for sale, and some people buy a new fishing boat and then hardly have time to use them. When they start thinking of using the money for other things, they often are looking for a way to unload them.

Because they depreciate considerably the minute they drive off of a boat dealer's lot, a new fishing boat loses a considerable amount of value the first year, whether it has had any use or not. The new boat owner still has to pay for insurance, licensing and might be making boat payments on something they hardly use. This is often the reason you find used fishing boats for sale.

You can get a really good deal by doing some research and looking at different venues that offer used fishing boats for sale. Some of the internet auction websites are a good source for used fishing boats, and of course, sometimes you can find them in the classifieds of the newspaper.

You want to make sure that a used fishing boat is in good mechanical shape and most of the have outboard motors. While you can always purchase a new outboard motor for a used fishing boat, it is best if you can have the existing motor inspected to see if there are any major mechanical issues so that you can consider that in your offer. There is not much worse than getting stranded in the middle of the lake on a hot day because your motor won't start on your used fishing boat.

Another thing you will want to check is the book value of the used fishing boats. Once you have narrowed it down to a certain model, many boat dealers are willing to look up the estimated trade in or retail value for you. Ideally, you will want to purchase used fishing boats close to the trade-in value, in the event you decide you want to trade it in later for a newer model, even if you are buying it from an individual.

Used fishing boats are considered a recreational and optional toy for most people, but avid fishermen come to a point in their life where they are sick of bumming rides from other boating fishermen or fishing from the dock and shore. You can get much better access by having your own fishing boat and a used fishing boat is a good place to start when it comes to boat ownership.

With a little research and a mechanical inspection, you can get a good deal on used fishing boats and find one that will last you for many years of fishing enjoyment. They are a great way to putter around the lake, although some of them go quite fast. Some fishermen use them to fish in tournaments and the good ones make some pretty good spending cash if they are able to get into some fish. Used fishing boats are a great way to save money on a boat purchase.

Marine electronics are necessary for navigating on the open water. As you can imagine, taking a leisurely boat ride might sound relaxing—and it really can be—but approaching the sea without seriousness is just asking for trouble.

Safety should always be your first priority when approaching the water. That means you'll need to stock up on a variety of marine electronics equipment to keep you and all your passengers safe and sound. Whether you're going on a fishing trip or simple yachting expedition, marine electronics ensure you know where you're going, that you stay on course and that the most precious cargo of all—your passengers and yourself—are kept secure.

Navigation

To be completely safe while onboard a sea-faring vessel, you'll need to have appropriate navigational tools. A marine GPS is an essential piece of marine electronics, so you can always find out where you are and whether or not you're on course. Compasses make for another sound addition to your marine electronics supply, as do radars and even binoculars.

Communication

Another important aspect of safety at sea includes communication devices. Specifically designed marine electronics are the perfect way to keep in contact with the shore at all times. Electronics for marine settings like antennas, SSB radios and satellite phones make the worry of being stuck out in the ocean virtually vanish. These communication marine electronics add a whole new level of safety to your boating or fishing trip, so you know what that means? You can spend even more time on the open waves.

Safety Must-Haves

While finding the best marine electronics is essential to ensuring you have a safe trip at sea, there are a few other safety items that may not be as high-tech, but are still just as important, nevertheless.

Things like life vests, searchlights, inflatable boats and life rafts may not qualify as marine electronics, but they add another layer of safety should anything go wrong. Think of it this way: marine electronics are there to prevent you from getting in a dangerous situation. However, these more basic safety tools are necessary in case the odd chance occurs that you do get in that bad situation.

Thinking about safety at sea isn't exactly fun, but it can help save lives, and that's what's important.

How many times have you heard boat owners brag that they have the most perfect captain on their vessel. Even with the best full-time captain, there are times of sickness and leave when you need the services of a relief captain. In fact there are many reasons to hire a relief captain. It must be best practice in boating management to have a regular relief captain that you can rely on.

A relief captain fills in during times of sickness or injury, or during annual leave periods, or for specific routes. A relief captain may skipper your yacht for as little as a couple of weeks to several months at a time. A relief captain can also provide a "boat-sitting" service in times when you simply need someone nearby to keep an eye on your moored vessel.

Ideally, you should develop a relationship with a reliable relief captain who is both experienced and well-connected in case they need to refer you to another captain.

Recruiting a relief captain

Just because a relief captain is only onboard for a short time, does not mean that your recruitment and selection process should be any less rigorous than a full time staff member. You should advertise broadly for a relief captain and be upfront with the fact that it is a short-term fill-in position. Be clear that there is slim to no chance that the relief captain position will become permanent.

Expect a written application from your potential relief captains. Even though it is a short term contract, a professional relief captain will be willing to prepare a professional application and resume. Once you have short listed a number of relief captains, you should interview them to ensure their suitability.

A professional relief captain

A professional relief captain is the ideal candidate for relief captain roles rather than a captain who is looking for a full-time position, but is prepared to settle for a short term relief contract. As well as the possibility that the relief captain may cause friction on board if they are aspiring to the permanent captaincy, there is the added problem that they are unlikely to be available next time you need a relief captain.

As a relief captain, I have been called upon with fairly short notice to relieve on a variety of vessels. From relieving a sick captain, to delivering yachts, I prefer short-term assignments. I am at a stage in my life that a permanent position is not practical, nor desirable, so there is never any conflict for the owners who hire me as a relief captain.
Prior to jumping in with both feet there are some things you need to think about. You need to decide if you want to go with a fast nitro boat or a laid back sailboat or something in between like an electric remote controlled boat! If you like to work with your hands, then you might want to consider an unassembled radio controlled boat kit. Building a kit boat can be done slowly or you can spend some time and build it quickly. The types of boats available vary widely from scale racing boats to gas powered monsters to slow and steady sailboats.

Before you go out and just buy the first RC boat you see, it is important to shop around. Many are very expensive but you can pick up a good electric remote controlled boat for around $100. If you are a beginner, you might want to consider something in this price range, so if something happens, you don't loose a big investment. A lower end boat will let you hone your technique without the danger of hurting a valuable boat.

Be sure to do some reading about radio controlled boats before you start. By doing this you will have a lot more knowledge and be able to make more informed decisions before you purchase. You will also need to ask the retailer lots of questions. You will find the specifications are outlined clearly on most online retailers of remote controlled boats. Prior to going to a local store make sure that you have listed the models that appeal to you as well as any questions you may have. Telling you that this brand of remote controlled boat is better than that brand of RC boat would be foolish. This is a decision that only you can make yourself.

When you have purchased the remote controlled boat you want and are ready to take it out on the water, wait. What you need before you go on the water with your remote controlled boat is a checklist. All real captains always have a checklist to go over before they depart and RC boating is no different.

It is particularly important with RC boats, since getting one back to shore can be really hard if something happens. A good check list will ensure that you have enough fuel and that all the parts are functioning correctly.

Making your first run along the shoreline is a good idea just in case something goes wrong or needs adjusting. This will save you from having to retrieve your remote controlled boat or possibly end up loosing it entirely.

Following these guidelines will maximize your enjoyment of your radio controlled boating experience and probably save you money too. Doing regular maintenance, following the owner's manual, as well as whatever else is needed to make your boat run smoothly will ensure that you will have a great time with your RC boat.
Laying out on deck, enjoying nice cold beverage, and reminding yourself just how lucky you are. You go below to get another cold one and you notice that the fridge is eerily quiet. You quickly check the voltmeter and you feel a sinking in your stomach. These situations can be avoided with marine solar panels as they can give you power while on the hook.

Solar power generation is becoming increasing more popular with powerboaters and sailors alike. It is a free energy solution that if coupled with an inverter can provide limitless power to top off your batteries, run your appliances, and keep power to essential navigation and communication devices.

As with anything associated with "marine" there are certain considerations that must be taken into account when designing and installing a solar energy system for marine use versus a normal residential installation due to the corrosive elements boats are exposed to.

Due to the increasing demand for solar panels, a lot of chandleries both local and online carry a wide variety of ready made systems that start around $900 and can go up to as much as you need to customize. But if you are remotely handy with tools, this makes a great weekend DIY project that can save you literally hundreds if not thousands of dollars which can either go towards fuel or keeping the rest of the boat maintained. In order to determine the size panels required for the system, simply add together the total wattage consumption of all your essentials. In other words, how many watts does the fridge, GPS, television, etc take to keep running. Multiply this number by how many hours they will be running and then divide it by 2. This will give you your wattage requirements.

Once you have figured out the size of the system it is now time to make the determination to either purchase a kit or do it yourself. I would advise additional research to help in the decision making process.

As an environmentally conscience boater, I am always seeking out ways to make my boating experience that much more enjoyable. I believe that marine solar panels are an excellent alternative to fossil fueled generators while still having the ability to have power while on the hook. However, keep in mind that you should have a solid understanding of how solar energy works before installing a system on your boat or in your home. A good place to start might be at http://www.altenergysolutions.info. After you have completed your research, I feel confident that you will find, as I have, that the power and quietness of the sun fits in nicely with natural beauty of your surroundings.
And it always seems to happen when you have perfect boating weather with calm seas. A battery charger comes in pretty handy for times like these as it can keep a floating charge to keep the batteries topped off. With marine solar panels you can avoid these situations as they are a environmentally practical choice to maintain a full charge on your batteries.

As a rule of thumb, marine batteries dissipate an average of 1% of their charge on a daily basis dependent upon the weather conditions. So in order to maintain a float charge on the battery, a 100-amp battery would require a solar energy system that would be capable of 1 amp/day output.

Since a solar power system is actually rated in watts, to figure output amps, simply divide the wattage rating of the panels by 15. So a typical 5-watt panel would give you a maximum output of .33 amps a day. Because of the fact that the highest rate output occurs when the sun is directly overhead, expect an average rated output of about 5 hours a day. Thus, the 5-watt panel would give approximately 1.65 amp hours (5 x 0.33).

When designing a system for your boat, use 3.5 watts per 100 amp hours of battery capacity taking into account cloudy days as well as running essential systems like bilge pumps if you are in the water. As with normal battery maintenance, check your water level regularly!

Regardless of the panel size you decide to go with, make absolutely certain that you have a minimum of 33 cells. Fewer than 33 cells will be insufficient to charge the batteries. If cruising in an area where cloudy days seem to outnumber the cloudless ones, you may want to research thinner filmed panels versus the normal crystalline ones as this type deal better with low light conditions.

Mount the panels in an area that will be allow them direct access to the suns rays keeping in mind that as the boat moves (especially on anchor) you want to be able to angle the panels accordingly to maintain contact with the sun. Usually this would be the highest point on the boat like radar arches or rigged to sail masts. I have however seen a number of deck mounted installations but keep in mind that the panels do produce heat so leave room enough under the panels so that the heat can be dissipated.

Wire it all together with marine-graded wire. The positive (+) terminal from the panel will connect to the positive battery post and consequently the negative (-) terminal from the panel to the negative post on the battery. Although panels with a max output of no more than 1% of the battery power do not require a regulator, I would certainly advise for a regulator as a precaution and give you peace of mind when the boat is unattended. Essential will be an in-line fuse that is close to the battery this would protect against a short and prevent potential fires. If your boat has both a starter and house bank, you can have a solar electrical system that is dedicated for each one wired separately.

There you have it. As an avid boater I have been in situations where my voltmeter wasn't working properly and I realized that I didn't have enough charge from either of my battery banks to turn the engine over. Fortunately I had a portable genny with me but God forbid if I didn't have that because I had no bars on my cell phone and my radio was dead because everything was tied directly to the batteries. Having a power system that consists of your boat batteries, inverter, and marine solar panels is both practical and environmentally friendly. For additional information on solar electrical systems go to http://www.altenergysolutions.info as a start. Happy boating!

Got insurance? I would like to originate by stating that I am an insurance agent/dealer certified only in the kingdom of California. I am not soliciting for dealings or making any consolations as to a particular guests or invention. This article is for informational purposes only. Laws, boating regulations and policies fluctuate from kingdom to kingdom and guests to guests. I counsel contacting an upright carter and agent who is memorable with the laws, regulations and carters of the region in which you reside.

It's important to write that it is not a maintenance strategy and will not shelter erode and tear, deterioration, etc. sort, wet and dry rot, and fleas are also expelled from most policies. Then, floor panels, upholstery, picture, foam packing, etc. will not be sheltered in most bags. Many companies will suggest mechanical shelter age on new boats for an additional premium.

When shopping for nautical insurance, one desires to understand strategy kinds, shelter age frontiers and frontierations. Never, never, never cover your boat on your homeland lord's strategy. Forever buy a freestanding boat strategy regard minus of rate. Then, if you should you experience a liability or health passing connected to the boat, it won't shape your home. A boat is just a toy, but we all need a home. If the boat premium goes up or the strategy is lost after a passing, so be it. Moreover pay it or advertise the boat. Don't gamble the passing of your homeland lord's insurance strategy.

Ask yourself a few simple questions to determine if you fully understand the concepts that we have went over so far.

Plan Types

Arranged value or endorsed value

With this kind of strategy, both the covered and the insurance carter kingdom and allow on the merit of the hull and friendly hardware. Normally, merit is uncovered by dealer grip allotment on new boats and by NADA escort merits or dealer grip allotments for worn boats.

What is important with this kind of strategy is to start and detail merit proceeding to passing and pay the needed premiums. The hull and all friendly hardware have a track shelter age frontier. Should you add towers, bikini tops high-end stereo, weight logic or other accessories that are permanently affixed, it is important to make certain your hull shelter age comprises the merit of that substance.

Actual money value

With this kind of strategy, the insurance guests pays what the boat is value at the time of the passing. This means depreciation is an issue. The guests have the selection of replacing it with "like kind and home" or paying you the coins equivalent. This means that if they locate a sapient on the Internet, they have the selection of trade it for you or suggesting you an alike dough total.

Of the two, I rather an allowed merit or kingdom merit strategy is basis, in the answer of a passing, there is no arguing about the merit of the passing.

Exclusions and Deductibles

Got insurance? It is important to read the strategy tenderly to guarantee that you have all the shelter ages for which you are paying. Many companies prohibit certain indemnity such as injury from underwater articles or injury as an answer of freezing. Then, you want to get an "all gambles" strategy with the least exclusions potential.

Deductibles are regularly 2% of the hull merit, but can be raised to diminish the premium. A good nautical strategy has the preview planned separately with its own abstractedly, which can be as low as $100. Again, endorse that the shelter age is sufficient enough to swap any passing with like kind and home. This is especially loyal if you have a high-end preview.

Liability Types

Liability shelters home injury and special injury to everybody excluding the named covered and pressing family members. It defends the named covered and pays on behalf only if named covered is found prone. Opening control

Opening frontier liability shelter age follows the kind of shelter age you regularly see with vehicle mobile liability insurance. Few covers effusive understand this kind of liability.

For example, if your liability frontiers are 100/300/100, that means you have $100,000 in shelter age per qualities, $300,000 in shelter age per occurrence and $100,000 in shelter age for home injury. So if you have five passengers in the boat, you only have $300,000 in shelter age to gash between those five passengers. That's only $60,000 each. So the more passengers on panel, the reduce the shelter age per qualities.

Protection and cover

P&I is the most everyday and regularly the cheapest kind of liability shelter age unfilled. P&I shelter age provides a track dough frontier for both liability and home injury pooled, which the carter will pay on your behalf. It comprises apology rates as well. Then, it doesn't relevant how many passengers are occupied. The shelter age frontier can operate to one passenger or 10.

Towing Liability

Towing liability shelters something being pulled or towed behind a stirring vessel. For any strategy, towing liability is a must have. Be surely to endorse that this shelter age is comprised in your strategy. Never imagine that it's comprised in the strategy be basis many companies prohibit this shelter age or dash more to comprise it.

Disaster military

Disaster military shelter age is comprised on many policies. This shelters reseller of immersed vessels or pranswerion of passing. It also shelters towing on the water and/or on the preview. Make surely this shelter age allows for towing help if on the preview. This is important in the answer of a vehicle accident or hinge or impact evils.

Pollution Liability

Pollution liability shelters shipshape up of fuel or oil in the answer of impulsive and accidental disease. This is fitting more important as many governmental agencies will invoice for shipshape up military after an accident.

Umbrellas

Got insurance? An umbrella strategy provides overkill liability shelter age. It will pay, on your behalf, for an occurrence for which you are deemed prone after all underlying strategy frontiers are exhausted. Every boat landlord should believe one. If you can present a "toy," then you maybe have assets that need protection, such as a home, retirement procedure, impending inheritances, etc. Umbrella policies are inexpensive, regularly around $150-$400 per million dough's of shelter age.

Health Coverage

Health shelter age pays for injuries to any qualities injured while on or in the covered vessel regard minus of omission or basis. The senior the shelter age, the better. I would counsel no minus than $5,000.

Navigation controls

Read the strategy tenderly and make surely you understand the navigation frontiers proceeding to signing it. Some everyday language are bronzed water (minus than five miles from coast and national) and desolate water (over five miles from land). Use of this language is regularly inside restrictions that are usually for vessel and sport fishing boats that journey into international (non-U.S.) waters. Most preview boat navigation frontiers are definite as "national lakes and waterways."

Survey for kingdom and region frontierations as well. These are restrictions on where the vessel is sheltered. This is important if, for example, you live in California, but take your boat to Lake Powell in Arizona/Utah.

Lay Up time

The lay up phase is the phase of time in which you will lay the vessel up and not use it. This is regularly iciness. Many companies suggest discounts if you accept a lay up phase, but you need to be chary about intended your lay up phase time scaffold and make surely you don't use the boat during that time. If you do, you may be lacking shelter age.

Commercial Use

A special boat insurance strategy is right that, special use. You cannot use it for dealings promotion, answers, instruction or charter whether or not a fee is dashed. If you abstract it from your taxes as a dealings article, then you usually need a commercial strategy.

Operators

Most policies name the hands of the vessel. However, the vessel is what is covered for liability, regard minus of who is working it. Companies just want driver names and experience for rating purposes. This is where the guests use relevant information about the hand to uncover a premium.

Endorsements and Certificate Holders

Got insurance? Many people belong to exclusive lakes and ski strikes and, then, are necessary to name the strike, lake clout, sponsor or other unit as an additional covered. If this is something you need or something you prophesy needing in the impending, ask if it is potential to name an additional covered. Be surely to ask what the additional premium would be.

Ownership

If you own an attract in a boat, be surely your name is on the label. You cannot cover or hoard your impart in the answer of a passing if you are not a registered landlord. You can be sued, however, as an unknown or silent landlord and have no apology shelter age under the strategy be basis you're not planned.

As a boating enthusiast the best thing to do is explore the ocean secrets and natural environments which others can not get to. Being on the sea surrounded by pure tranquillity and silence is the best way for anyone to relax, and Jeanneau Boats are one of the top most desired ways in which to do so.

The founder of the Jeanneau boats is Henri Jeanneau who was a very keen on aeroplanes and automobiles. Henri Jeanneaus passion for powerboats is said to have spiralled from a trip to his summerhouse where he flirted with the newest luxury item of the powerboat. In the mid 1950's he began to build his first powerboat in a shipyard in Les Herbiers. With this boat he entered a six hour race in Paris which he won, and from this he knew he had a skill for producing boats, and Jeanneau was created.

Today Jeanneau boats consist of yachts, powerboats, and sailing boats. These are said to be some of the best in the world, this is because these boats are all built on race winning technology. Also when Henri Jeanneau built his first fibreglass powerboat which was also his first mass produced boat, he cut the cost of producing the boat down. Because of this cost cut, Jeanneau where able to spend more on the fitting and powering of the boat, this means that their customers gain a boat with a high quality yet affordable price, making Jeanneau the most desired boating name today.
These lights are necessary for signaling for help in case of unexpected exigencies, to make the vessel visible to others in the darkness, and to aid night vision.

Emergency lights can be hand-held flashlights of various colors and intensities, or they can be lights mounted on the vessels. Larger vessels like cruise ships or battleships are generally fitted with emergency vehicle lighting mechanisms that can function as warning lights to other vessels, or can be used to convey distress signals if necessity arises. However, even those who go out on smaller crafts for short durations should not neglect their emergency vehicle lighting arrangements.

People may take to water variously for search and rescue operations, for water sports, for fishing, for flora or fauna collection as part of researches, or just for entertainment. Even if either of these operations have been planned to be conducted only during daytime, the travelers must ideally have some provision for emergency vehicle lighting. Unexpected circumstances could force people to stay past evening. Even during daytime, the weather can turn foggy or cloudy without warning. Then too, emergency vehicle lighting could become a necessity.

Even small boats out on water should carry one or more waterproof flashlights for emergency vehicle lighting, should the need arise. One prime condition that these lights should satisfy is that they should be easily operable. Where the lights are equipped with different flash patterns and colors, the transition mechanism should be smooth and fast to ensure that they do the emergency lighting job satisfactorily. LED lights or strobe lights are available for mounting on different parts of a vessel. However, even if a boat has got mounted lights, the travelers should essentially carry additional waterproof and weatherproof flashlights for emergency vehicle lighting needs, since lights will often need to be used in various directions.

As in the case of lights used for emergencies on land, lights used for emergency vehicle lighting in water, whether mounted or handheld, should have various levels of brightness, different flash features, and should have color choices. Depending upon the distance at which the users expect the light to be seen, brightness variation would become necessary. Different flash patterns are necessary to signal variously in codes that are familiar to sailors and rescue workers.

Color variation is also very important in emergency vehicle lighting. For signaling other boats for help, red colored light is used. For fishing, green colored light is helpful. Those who are fishing in secluded areas like rock jetties, or in any familiar fishing spots where there are not many other boats with competing lights, green light is helpful in attracting bait and fish. Blue and green lights are believed to help night vision though there is some difference of opinion among users regarding this.

In short, anyone venturing out into water should equip himself with emergency vehicle lighting equipments with various functionalities for a safe and secure time out on waters.
- Identification Tag: Make sure your pet has a collar with an identification tag. Include contact information, marina address and slip number.

- Familiarization with the Boat: It is best to gradually introduce your pet to your boat and the water. Let your pet explore the boat while it is docked before going out on the water. Turn on the engine and let them get used to its sound, smell, and feel while the boat is docked. Then, take your pet out on small cruises and gradually build up to longer cruises.

- Safe & Easy Boat Access: Provide a special pet ramp for your pet to get on and off the boat. This not only includes from the dock to the boat but also from the water to the boat. Pets weigh much more wet than dry and it can be very difficult to lift them back into your boat after a swim.

- Floatation Device: A personal floatation device (a.k.a. life jacket) can also ensure safety while on the water. Not all pets can swim (including some dogs). Even if your pet is a good swimmer, getting tossed overboard can put any animal into a panic. In addition, your pet could suffer from exhaustion or hypothermia. Many pets also fall into the water from the dock or while trying to get from the dock to the boat. Having your pet equipped with a floatation device with a lifting handle makes retrieving your pet much easier and safer. Help your pet get used to the PFD by first practicing at home for short periods of time. Start by putting the PFD on your pet and let them walk around with it on. The next step is to let your pet swim with it on for a short period. It's a new experience for your pet so it's important for them to get used to it before the boat trip.

- Proper Hydration & Staying Cool: Pets do not sweat, so keep an eye out for heavy panting or drool and a rapid heart beat. Protect pets from heat by providing some shade on the boat, providing plenty of water and keeping the deck cool to protect paw pads. Bring along a travel water bowl and fresh water. It is critical to hydrate pets before they get into the water. Otherwise, they will drink the natural water and may get sick.

- Going Potty: A big challenge of boating with your pet is making provisions so that they can go to the bathroom. Bringing along your cat's litter box and securing it inside the cabin is a good solution for your feline friends. Dogs, however, are a bigger challenge. If your boat trip does not allow for regular land stops for your dog to do their business, then provisions must be made so that they can relieve themselves on the boat. A portable dog potty that simulates grass is an excellent solution. We recommend the Pup-Head Portable Dog Potty.

- Health Records: If your boating destination is a marina or place that you're not familiar with, be sure to bring along a copy of vaccination and health records. Some places may require proof of immunization before letting pets explore on land.

- Call Ahead: While most marinas and parks welcome pets, there are some that aren't pet-friendly. Be sure to call ahead before arriving on shore.

Following these guidelines can help to ensure that your pet's boating experience will leave them feeling welcome, happy and safe their water travels.
Not required to do a navigation course at the moment, but there are some very good reasons to be aware of the rules of the road.

1) You will learn about safety equipment and what they are obliged to take his ship before embarking on a boat trip. This is important because it is not that you could be the difference between the situation, a situation can not or. You can also exit for the day when you stop the boat and the expense of the vice-examine on the spot fines for not with all the necessary safety equipment for their specific boat.

2) You learn that driving a boat is very different than driving a car. You have it with air and water currents. If you have never docked a boat you can think it is easy, until the current moves in the opposite direction you want to go. Understanding of the air and running water will help you get the docking of the boat.

3) Learn how with lines and nodes work is part of the navigation. You must be able to properly secure a boat. If the boat moves away, it's amazing how quickly the current take you beyond your reach, and probably the help of another sailor's need help to get there. So learn your knots.

4) You will learn what the average channel markers. We have learned the hard way, for the first time I went on a ship run aground and outside the markers. No idea what had the red and green markings resources at the poles. They learn on the golf course.

5) There are no speed limits on certain waterways, but in contrast to the roads will not be published possibly. Ignorance may not be enough, you get a ticket.

6) Using charts for coastal navigation can be a life saver. It is your road map that allows you to stay away from the dangers and shows that all markers and bridges, and using the measurements you would be the distance and time needed to calculate her somewhere. Tool can be useful for navigation.

7) How in the streets, it is a right of way. In a navigation course, you learn that you have the right of way, and why.

8) Each vessel must have a horn. You can listen to a long or short Toot Toot 2 and so on, and you will know what they mean.

9) It is boating regulations and laws that are followed by all the sailors (for example, and I've violated this rule failed so often) times may not be seated at the bow of the boat, his feet dangling over the side. There are many more rules to learn and do not know that can have consequences.

10), a boat anchor is not just a matter of plopping it in the sand. It is applied a mathematical procedure, the anchor that has to do with the size and length of the boat. Find out how this does not correctly give you the extra insurance to know that your boat is going anywhere until you want to move.

There are different ways to enjoy boat as the rapid pace of cross country navigation, or the slow pace of a trawler, kayak or canoe. In the way you want to do to make it a good idea to know the rules of the road. Then you can avoid further potential and desire it with all that sky, sun, water, family and friends.

Enjoy!

An anchor winch mounted to a smaller sized vessel (in the region of 18 - 24-feet) is able accept some of the heavier mushroom or river systems with a load rating of 25 to 50lbs. Winches can come pre-spooled with 50 - 95-feet of rope, and an electronic winch is able to retract its line at approx. 32 to 80-feet per minute.

Electric winch systems offer the convenience of auto power up/down at a simple press of a switch. Once a helm positioned button is pressed an anchor can lower or free-fall (dependent on system design), to the floor of a river or lake for a great hold.

Features to a quality winch unit include optional wireless operation, anti-drag system (senses the bottom of a riverbed for controlled drifting), auto retrieval and spooling of line, and in-built lighting for low-light conditions.

An anchor winch for a pontoon-constructed vessel is fixed with a rugged mounting plate to offer extra space, with the anchor roller extending further out from the rear platform to allow complete clearance of the pontoons.

A manual or anchor winch system is often simple to mount, comes complete with all hardware for ease in installation, and an optional switch unit that is mountable at the winch side or at a vessel's helm position for a more well located area.

An anchor system to mount on a small runabout, utility boat to pontoon or deck boat up to 24-feet in length offers ease in lowering or retrieving, so more time for boating or fishing.
The signal that the gps unit receives is crucial to the performance of the unit itself. With a garmin gps antenna, the gps unit can get signals from the 24 different satellites that relay signals to gps units. The garmin gps antenna will make your traveling experience easier because it makes the gps unit more accurate which in turn reduces the chance that you will receive wrong directions.

With the 24 different satellites that broadcast to gps antennas, your gps unit will in turn be much more accurate because the gps unit will be able to work anywhere around the world, even in areas that you normally don't get service. This is due to the amount of satellites available. It is very unlikely that you would be out of sight of any satellites because the gps antenna gets transmissions from all 24 of them.

Most garmin gps antennas are waterproof and you can easily mount them on your car. These antennas have a magnetic mount which allows them to be magnetically attached to a car or a boat. The antennas are also compatible with almost all of the garmin models. Therefore you dont have to buy a specific antenna for a specific garmin unit. The garmin gps antennas are LNA powered and their voltage range can go up to 5.5VDC.

Garmin gps antennas are essential to providing the garmin units with navigation excellence. Whether you are driving you car on busy city streets or boating on an unfamiliar lake, the garmin gps antenna is a must have unit. There are both external and internal antennas and therefore the performance in different cars varies. You can purchase these antennas, such as the GA25MCX at learning-about.com/garmin

About the Author
Read customer reviews with a star rating system for the garmin gps antenna by visiting: Garmin gps antenna
Read more reviews of garmin gps products by visiting: Garmin Gps Review
