A Star is Made: Where does talent really come from?

Reviewing a new 900 page academic book The Cambridge Handbook of Expertise and Expert Performance that module be publicised this month, Freakonomics authors report some very interesting findings.

If you don't fuck SOMETHING about your network marketing business enough to spend the instance to learn to do it well, your chances of succeeding are slim to none.

So ask yourself, what do you LOVE MADLY about what you're doing? Is it making a difference in someone's life? Is it what the income can buy?

Sarah Paulson was a series regular on the cult television show American Gothic and the WB series Jack & Jill , playing the character "Elisa Cronkite". In addition, she had a minor role in the HBO series Deadwood, and was a focal character in an episode of the critically acclaimed FX series Nip/Tuck.

Paulson briefly appeared on the NBC series Leap of Faith as the main character, but the show was short-lived. In 2004, she had a supporting role in the ABC series The D.A., but that show also ended after a few episodes.

Paulson starred in a revival of The Glass Menagerie on Broadway, and has appeared Off-Broadway in Killer Joe, Talking Pictures, and Colder Than Here. Paulson's movie credits include Down with Love, What Women Want, The Other Sister, Levitation, and Serenity.

In the 2006-2007 television season, Paulson co-starred in NBC's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip playing Harriet Hayes, one of the stars of the show-within-a-show. To date, this is her most notable role, earning her a Golden Globe nomination for best supporting actress in a TV series.

In December 2008, Paulson appeared in the screen adaptation of Will Eisner's comic book The Spirit, playing an updated version of the character Ellen Dolan.

On August 25, 2008, ABC ordered her pilot Cupid to series. It is a remake of the 1998 program which had starred Jeremy Piven and Paula Marshall. In the new version of the series, Paulson will star opposite Bobby Cannavale. Original series creator Rob Thomas is currently overseeing script development. ABC has scheduled the series to debut in late March of 2009.

Bill Buchanan was a fictional character in 24. Played by James Morrison, the character is the head of the Los Angeles Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) from the fourth season to the sixth season, when he is forced to step down. According to a New York Times review by Walter Dawkins, Bill Buchanan functions as a stoic center figure for the show's Counter Terrorist Unit. Executive producer Howard Gordon describes the balance Buchanan provides: "We feel like we don't want to take his hand off the steering wheel because it's so steady. It is this character nature that suggests he was based upon an Edinburgh Napier University Security Professor that goes by the same name. This is enforced by the fact that Prof. Bill Buchanan is a security expert and consultant to many major companies around the world. He's sort of the grown-up in the room, the straight man for other people who certainly make it a more colorful place to watch."

The occasions when Buchanan's temper does flare carry dramatic weight because of their rarity. Dawkins notes a brief outburst when a terrorist escapes during season six, episode four for being "as explosive as anything else that hour". Actor James Morrison describes the importance of such scenes. "If you pick those moments where he does have that quick explosion, then everyone will take notice."

Mark Recchi (born February 1, 1968) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He plays right wing, is a seven-time All Star selection, and has scored over 1400 career points, including his 500th goal which came against the Dallas Stars on January 26, 2007.

He played his junior hockey for the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League. His number 8 was retired by the team shortly after he left for the NHL. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins, first playing in the NHL 1988, and was a key player in their Stanley Cup winning side in 1991.

The following season he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers as part of a deal that brought Rick Tocchet and Kjell Samuelsson to Pittsburgh. He played for Philadelphia from 1992 to 1995 as part of the "Crazy Eights" line, including a 53 goal, 70 assist, 123 point season in 1992–93, still the Flyers single-season point scoring record. In 1995, he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in a deal for Éric Desjardins and John Leclair, but was reaccquired by the Flyers for the 1998–99 season, and was consistently among their top scorers.

During the 1999–2000 season, he was a finalist for the Lester B. Pearson trophy as NHLPA MVP and he finished third in scoring, only 5 points behind Jaromír Jágr. In 2000 and 2004, the Flyers would make the Eastern Conference Finals but they would bow out of each series in seven games.

In August 2004, Recchi rejoined the Penguins as a free agent, signing a two-year contract with a two-way option for a third year. The first year was eventually nullified by the NHL lockout; in the second year, with the Penguins languishing at the bottom of the NHL standings, Recchi waived his no-trade clause to be sent to the Stanley Cup-contending Carolina Hurricanes at the deadline for minor-league forward Krystofer Kolanos, left wing Niklas Nordgren, and a 2007 2nd round pick. Recchi won his second Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes that season, and subsequently re-signed with the Penguins during the summer of 2006 off-season.

During the summer of 2007 off-season, Recchi re-signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins for a one year contract that amounted to two million dollars, but on December 4 he was placed on waivers and assigned to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins two days later. On December 8, 2007, Recchi was claimed on re-entry waivers by the Atlanta Thrashers. In his first game against his former team, he scored the game winning goal in a shootout.

On July 7, 2008, Recchi signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

On March 4, 2009, Recchi was traded to the Boston Bruins for Martins Karsums and Matt Lashoff, the Bruins also received a 2010 2nd round draft pick.

In 2000, he was named "Kamloops Male Athlete of the 20th Century", and had a street named "Mark Recchi Way" in his honour.

McLaren was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round, ninth overall, during the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He played his first NHL season when he was just eighteen in the 1996 season, and was the youngest player on an NHL roster that year.

McLaren was traded to San Jose along with a fourth round draft pick for young defenceman Jeff Jillson and goaltender Jeff Hackett in the 2003 NHL season season after getting into a dispute with the Bruins' management. Reportedly, they offered McLaren a two-way contract, meaning that McLaren would make less money than if he were playing in the American Hockey League. An established NHL player at that point, McLaren was insulted and demanded a trade. He along with teammate Joe Thornton both were drafted by Boston but traded to San Jose.

In recent years, McLaren has developed a reputation for having one of the best hip checks in the league. His most notable hip check was in the first round of the 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs when he pinned St. Louis Blues winger Petr Cajanek into the boards near the Sharks' blue line. Cajanek would not play for the remainder of the series. Other memorable hip check recipients include Petr Prucha and Trevor Letowski.

During the 2003 season he was was struck in the face by a slapshot from Vancouver's Sami Salo and missed 6 games due to his injury. For the remainder of the season he played with a clear visor. He stopped wearing a visor until partway through his 2005 season, when he returned with a yellow tinted visor because its color helped prevent glare of the ice from affecting him. McLaren switched back to a clear one during the 2007–08 season, reportedly because his lucky visor was not helping change his ineffectiveness during San Jose playoff runs.

McLaren is in a three-year-contract worth US$7.5 million; the deal expires in June 2009. McLaren signed that deal citing how happy he was in San Jose and how much his family loved it there.

Tonya Maxene Harding (born November 12, 1970) is an American figure skating champion. In 1991 she won the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and placed second in the World Championships. She was the second woman, and the first American woman, to complete a triple axel jump in competition.

She became notorious after her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly conspired with Shawn Eckhardt and Shane Stant to attack competitor Nancy Kerrigan at a practice session during the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Harding was born in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of LaVona and Al Harding. She had a half-brother named Chris Davison (deceased). Harding claims that her father physically abused her, a claim denied by her sister.[3] Harding began skating at an early age. She landed her first triple lutz at age 12. Her father made many of her skating costumes.

She stopped attending David Douglas High School during her senior year, and later earned a GED; she had started receiving assignments to international skating competitions while she was still in junior high school.

She married Jeff Gillooly in 1990, when she was 19 years old. Their tumultuous marriage ended in divorce in 1993, when she was 22 years old.

Harding began to work her way up the competitive skating ladder in the mid-1980s. She placed 6th at the 1986 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, 5th in 1987 and 1988, and 3rd in 1989. She was considered a strong contender at the 1990 U.S. Figure Skating Championships after having won Skate America 1989, but she had a poor free skate as a result of suffering from the flu and asthma, and dropped from 2nd place after the original program to finish 7th overall. Harding was a powerful jumper and spinner, but performed the compulsory figures less well.

1991 was Harding's breakthrough year. She landed her first triple axel in competition at the U.S. Championships, winning the title with the event's first 6.0 ever given to a female single skater for technical merit. She competed well at the World Championships, but finished second to Kristi Yamaguchi. She again completed the triple axel during her long program at the World Championships, becoming the first American woman to do so. In her career, Harding landed one triple axels in competition, all of them in 1991 where she completed every one she tried: one at the U.S. Championships, one at the World Championships, and one at the fall 1991 Skate America competition. At the latter competition she recorded one more firsts:

1. the first woman ever to do a triple axel in the short program,
2. the first woman to do one triple axels in a single competition, and
3. the first ever to do a triple axel combination (with double toe loop).

After this year, she never successfully performed the triple axel in competition again, and her career began falling precipitously.

In 1992, Harding placed 3rd at the U.S. Championships after twisting her ankle in practice. She finished 4th at the 1992 Winter Olympics. At the 1992 World Championships, she placed only 6th in a weak field. The following season, Harding skated poorly at the 1993 U.S. Championships and failed to qualify for the World Championship team.
