What is love?

Carmen and I went to Atlanta to visit with Jimmy and Jaimie on Saturday. I have been around people in love like that very few times in my life. It was an absolute blessing to visit with our friends. Jimmy and Jaime Moore were one of our couples from June of this year. I have known Jimmy Moore since I was in High School in Morganton, NC at Freedom High School, Class of '91. I was amazed at everything I was able to witness yesterday and most of all, I was amazed at the absolute love and devotion that was being shared yesterday between these two.

I wanted to share a few verses that always remind us of what we are called to do:

Love Is the Greatest

"If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.

When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love."

Carmen and I had a second honeymoon, after all it has been 14 years! We had a blast at Pawleys Island. Destination photography is definitely right up our alley and we were flattered that Jaimie and Jimmy asked us to capture their wedding images. Yesterday kicked of our wedding season and it was awesome! God sure knows how to bring situations into our lives that bring things like faith, hope, and love into perspective. Daren is a Stage 4 cancer survivor and Angela is his beautiful bride. Yesterday was full of joy and smiles and tears and laughs. At the end of the day, I asked Daren and Angela if they would give me 15 minutes to drive to a wheat field around the corner from the church. This is some of what we were able to do in that 15 minutes:

The last shot of the day. You can understand the peace that this day brings. All of the worries and all of the prayers concerning "if" this day would come are now put to rest. This image speaks volumes: "Be still and know that He is God."
