JVC Full HD 3D Consumer Camcorder Is World’s First:

LAS VEGAS, January 6, 2011 －JVC today announced the world’s first consumer camcorder to offer 3D recording in Full HD, thanks to a new JVC-developed high-speed processor that can produce two simultaneous Full HD images.
The new GS-TD1 uses two camera lenses and two 3.32 megapixel CMOS sensors – one for each lens – to capture three-dimensional images much the same way that human eyes work. JVC’s new high-speed imaging engine simultaneously processes the two Full HD images – left and right images at 1920 x 1080i – within that single chip. The newly developed “LR Independent Format” makes the GS-TD1 the world’s first consumer-oriented camcorder capable of 3D shooting in Full HD. JVC’s new camcorder offers other shooting modes as well, including the widely used “Side-by-Side Format” for AVCHD (3D) and conventional AVCHD (2D) shooting.

The camcorder uses a JVC 3D Twin HD GT Lens that sets a new standard in high-resolution lenses with extra-low-dispersion glass for crisp, high-contrast images, as well as multiple aspherical lenses for fine image reproduction. The GS-TD1 also features round iris diaphragms that enable beautiful bokeh effect (background blurring) shooting of video and stills alike. Additional highlights include 3D optical 5x zoom, Optical Axis Automatic Stabilization System for disparity control to give depth to 3D images, JVC’s BIPHONIC technology for dynamic 3D sound and Automatic Parallax Adjustment to optimize the 3D-video comfort zone . There is nothing difficult about using the GS-TD1, which operates like other consumer-friendly camcorders from JVC. CopterStudios Outfits Mini-Helicopters With JVC GY-HM100 ProHD Camcorders For Close-range Aerial HD Shooting

WAYNE, NJ, June 17, 2010 – JVC Professional Products, a division of JVC U.S.A., announced today that CopterStudios, a specialty production company based in Santa Rosa, Calif., has outfitted two Halo remote-controlled helicopters with JVC GY-HM100 ProHD camcorders for close-range aerial cinematography. The Halo-based helicopters have captured breathtaking HD footage for cable network programs, movies, and TV commercials, as well as promotional footage for Sonoma and Napa Valley wineries, real estate properties, and golf courses.

CopterStudios owner Darin Huard founded the company five years ago because he recognized the valuable and incomparable cinematic perspective these mini-helicopter camera systems could capture. With the ability to hover or fly with precision, the Halo can get unique shots 50 to 100 feet off the ground, which would be too difficult or expensive to get from a full-size helicopter, camera boom, or crane.

Built by PhotoShip One in Mesa, Ariz., the two Halo remote controlled helicopters were designed and built specifically for close range aerial cinematography. "Once we took delivery of the helicopter systems, it was up to us to outfit them with our choice of cameras and wireless transmission systems," said Huard. "We chose the JVC GY-HM100 because it offers features that are mission-critical to this application."

Besides outstanding HD picture quality, Huard said the GY-HM100s are ideal because they are lightweight, extremely compact, and include a built-in Fujinon 10x lens. Plus, the camcorders can shoot both HD and PAL video in a variety of frame rates, and feature 3-CCD image capture along with built-in image stabilization.

"The 3-CCD chips in the JVC GY-HM100's also play a critical role. CCD imaging tolerates the vibrations of the helicopter better than CMOS sensors can," Huard explained. "Also, when the helicopter moves abruptly, CMOS imagers can leave an unacceptable waviness in the picture, whereas CCDs don't seem to have that problem."
CopterStudios maintains a five-man crew for each production: a pilot for the remote controlled helicopter; a camera operator, who uses an IR remote control to adjust camera functions; two safety assistants, who warn the pilot of obstacles in the flight path; and a set coordinator, who works with the director or producer to plan the shots. "While remote-controlled helicopter camera systems may seem like very sophisticated toys," Huard added, "it takes considerable technical skill and knowledge to operate them with the precision and predictability big-budget productions require."

Usually, the remote controlled helicopter is airborne and shooting between three and 10 minutes. The director or producer can watch the video in real time on a monitor on the set. SD video is transmitted from the JVC camera via a live video microwave downlink to a directional patch antenna, which feeds the reference monitor on set.

CopterStudios also takes advantage of the GY-HM100's use of SDHC solid-state media and native Final Cut Pro recording. "We have a table set up with an Apple MacBook Pro laptop running the latest Final Cut Pro software," Huard said. "When we bring the cameras back down, we simply transfer the QuickTime files from the solid-state media cards directly into the laptop and Final Cut Pro to review our footage. Having this tapeless workflow right on the set is very fast and truly indispensable to our operations.

WAYNE, NJ,April 13, 2010 – JVC Professional Products, a division of JVC U.S.A., announced today that Hearst Television, a station group based in New York City that reaches about 18 percent of U.S. television households through its 29 television stations, is standardizing on JVC GY-HM100 ProHD camcorders for its Next Generation Newsroom Project, a new initiative that expands local news coverage.

After a successful pilot project in three stations last year, the Next Generation Newsroom Project was launched in 2010 with deployments at WPBF in West Palm Beach, FL (DMA #38), and KETV in Omaha, NE (DMA #76). Six additional Hearst stations are now using the GY-HM100 camcorder as part of the Next Generation Newsroom: KMBC in Kansas City, MO (DMA #32), WLWT in Cincinnati, OH (DMA #33), WISN in Milwaukee, WI (DMA #35), WGAL in Lancaster (DMA #39), KOCO in Oklahoma City, OK (DMA #45), and KCCI in Des Moines, IA (DMA #72).
According to Joe Addalia, director of technology projects, WMUR in Manchester, NH, which also serves the Boston market (DMA #7), and WESH in Orlando, FL (DMA #19), will deploy new GY-HM100s within the month. Hearst plans to purchase GY-HM100 camcorders for at least six more stations in 2010.

The Next Generation Newsroom Project represents a paradigm shift in news coverage for the station group. Rather than hold news for regularly scheduled newscasts, these news teams provide live streaming video to the Web, as well as produce edited packages for broadcast. The teams do not replace traditional news crews, but instead augment station coverage. "What we're pushing is to get more content…faster and direct from the field," Addalia explained. "Our goal is to increase our reach and win at local news. We're always live."

News teams have a portable kit built around a GY-HM100 ProHD camcorder paired with a Dell laptop loaded with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 NLE software. For news packages from the field, the GY-HM100 records native .MOV files, which can now be used natively with Adobe Premiere Pro for editing – no ingest required. Addalia said the news packages are recorded and edited in HD, then downconverted to SD for FTP transport back to the station for the local news broadcast.

Addalia said the GY-HM100 is the ideal camcorder for the Next Generation Newsroom Project, because it is a full-featured professional camcorder that records to inexpensive SDHC solid-state media, yet it is not intimidating to non-technical personnel. "It's a small, lightweight package and it's easy to deploy," he noted.

The new GZ-HM1 HD Everio offers a full slate of technologies to optimize picture quality and an array of manual controls for creative flexibility. The GZ-HM1 offers performance improvements in three key areas — low light performance, camera-shake compensation and digital still quality. As a result, the GZ-HM1, which offers 64GB of internal storage and an SD/SDHC card slot, is the ideal camera for video enthusiasts and semi-professionals.

In the area of low light performance, the GZ-HM1 provides superior results thanks to a new CMOS sensor that boosts sensitivity to four Lux (compared to nine Lux for the previous GZ-HM400) for brilliant recording of 1920 x 1080 Full HD video, with 1080/60p output through the HDMI connection. In camera shake compensation, JVC made improvements in wide angle performance, an area not typically addressed. While most stabilization efforts focus on effectiveness in high zoom ratios, camera shake also occurs at wide angle settings, especially when the camera user is moving along with the subject. In the new GZ-HM1, JVC uses prism technology to provide effective results at the wide angle end of the zoom range. And for better still image quality, the GZ-HM1 delivers real 10 megapixel stills for detailed images.

The GZ-HM1's 1/2.3-inch 10.62 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor dramatically increases sensitivity, enabling recording of high quality images even in low-light locations. Back-illumination technology moves the circuitry within the CMOS chip to a layer behind the photo diodes, avoiding loss of incoming light that occurs with conventional CMOS sensors. This efficient gathering of light increases the ability to obtain visual information, which translates into higher picture quality being available at the camera even in low light situations. The KONICA MINOLTA HD LENS is currently one of the world's smallest and slimmest HD lenses, and offers 10x optical zoom.

A new optical image stabilization system with Advanced Image Stabilizer provides effective camera-shake compensation in a variety of situations. The camera's optical image stabilization system uses two prisms within the lens housing to optically compensate for vertical and lateral camera shake. Together they are able to effectively reduce the effects of shake in any direction. This JVC system is enhanced by the company's Advanced Image Stabilizer that improves compensation, especially in the wide angle range, providing a stable image even if the user is walking while shooting.

The camera's 10.62 megapixel CMOS sensor allows the GZ-HM1 to shoot real 10 megapixel stills with ISO6400 sensitivity for pristine digital stills with high resolution, even if the lighting is less than ideal. The densely packed pixels of the CMOS sensor translate into smooth and realistic images without any sense of pixilation or gaps between pixels, for a look similar to film photography. ISO6400 high sensitivity is assurance that even in dark situations the image will look sharp and detailed. For further assistance in shooting in low light, the GZ-HM1 includes an automatic flash.

To meet the needs of the more demanding video enthusiast, the GZ-HM1 offers an array of manual controls. These include a manual adjustment dial that, among other functions, allows easy and precise manual focus. Other manual controls include selection of shutter or aperture priority shooting, and bracket shooting. In addition, there's a user-programmable button for storing frequently used settings.

To ensure the best possible audio recording, there's a microphone input, audio level control and headphone output. There's also a top-mounted accessory shoe.

The GZ-HM1 also offers creative shooting functions, including time-lapse recording, available in all 2010 Everio cameras, to easily record in intervals ranging from one to 80 seconds. When played back, hours-long segments are reduced to mere seconds. Also available is high-speed recording at up to 600 frames per second, allowing ultra-slow motion playback for observation and analysis, such as a golf swing.

Digital files created with this new Everio camera can be easily shared in a variety of popular formats with the enhanced Everio MediaBrowser software for Windows®, which now provides automatic conversion of HD videos for immediate sharing on YouTube™ at HD or SD resolution. Files also can be directly exported to iTunes® and synced with an iPod® or iPhone®, or burned to DVD, all with just a few mouse clicks using the same Everio MediaBrowser application.

Right, so these two may not actually be the world's lightest HD camcorders without qualifications, but hey, they're still amongst the least burdensome on the market today. Speaking of which, Panny has just let loose details on US pricing and availability, though it looks as if you'll need to hunt elsewhere if hoping to capture all those summer vacations in 1080p. Indeed, both the half-pound HDC-SD10 and HDC-TM10 won't hit American shelves until September, when they'll be available for $549.95 and $599.95, respectively. If you're curious as to what the extra $50 buys you in the TM10, it's an 8GB internal flash drive, whereas the other guy requires you to rely solely on your own SD / SDHC cards.
