The Philadelphia transit strike is over. That's another area where New York has it better: Philly has a lot more transit strikes.

And it's worse for them, because their commuter trains and buses are under the same agency, whereas in New York, while Metro-North and the LIRR are both under the umbrella of the MTA, they have a separate union from the City subway trains and buses.

So if two guys are living in Trenton, and one works in Manhattan and the other in Center City Philly, the former can take New Jersey Transit's train into Penn Station and then hoof it or pay the expense of a cab; but the latter is all but stuck.

If I had the choice of living in Philly or suburban New Jersey, I'd take Philly. I love cities, and Philly is one of the cities I love. But if I had the coice of living in Philly or New York, come on. New York rules all.

Posada was a backup catcher in '96although he played in very few games as I recall but he did received a ring. He was on the regular roster but not the World Series roster.

I, too like this core but the Yankees shouldn't stand pat. Remember in 1997, they changed little from the '96 champs (other than bringing in Irabu) and they didn't get out of the first round. That being said, I would like to see them keep Matsui, Damon and Molina for another year; spell Damon in LF with Swisher and get a younger, bullet-armed RF; we need to find out whether Hughes, Kennedy, Joba are rotation ready. How about signing the just released JJ Putz to bridge to Mo - how that would tick off Met fans! Don't be surprised if Putz goes to the Phillies, either.

I've been so busy celebrating the whole weekend no time to make any posts.

I was at the parade and it was fantastic...only fault was the pacing between floats and they were going by too fast. We wanted to enjoy our guys a little longer. Everyone was so excited with big smiles on their faces. What a great day to be a Yankee fan (actually I'm ALWAYS happy to be a Yankee fan ..win or lose). I'm also happy I have great bosses who let me enjoy my Yankee moments by giving me days off and even buying me tickets to some of the events (like the All-Star Game at YS). They love my enthusiasm for my team and they come from BOSTON!!! Thankfully they aren't baseball fans or I most likely would have been fired by now...haha.

The whole series was great ...as it should be with the two best teams playing. I'm just happy it was over in six as I would have been a basket case by game seven. How great was it to win in the new Stadium. One sign said ..."New Stadium..Same Destiny". Another said "Now it's Home". I loved
the signs.

Only about 3 months till P's & C's and hopefully the start of the Yanks march to Championship #28. With this core of guys I'm thinking it looks pretty darn good.

Noticed that all four living Mayors were there. Koch sat between Dinkins and Giuliani, probably a wise move. Koch was dominating the conversation, Giuliani was laughing his evil laugh, Dinkins looked like he wanted to get the hell out of there. And Bloomberg was an unctuous @$$ as usual. In other words, all four Mayors stayed in character.

Nice to see that, according to Joe Girardi, George Steinbrenner is already thinking about next year. The guy was too ill to attend the Series, may be dying for all we know (nobody will tell us exactly what his affliction is, leading us to speculate wildly), and he wants Title 28 in 2010.

I don't think we can call the Phillies losers, as most of them left with their reputations enhanced, even in defeat. Those who didn't were Cole Hamels, who whined about wanting the season to end, not good when it looks like you're going to start a potential Game 7; Pedro Martinez, for choking in postseason play again; and Charlie Manuel, the manager who failed to learn the lesson of Grady Little: Better to take Pedro out a batter too soon than a batter too late, because that too late is far too late.

Not sure I would call Texiera a loser, He made several Great plays in the field, and the few hits and times he got on base were big and resulted in Runs.
Even Cano was good in the field.
The only loser for the Yankees this postseason was Phil Hughes who was as bad as I ever saw.

I liked the Faster Times piece but you neglect to mention that Mussina also becomes this generation's Mattingly (retiring the yeat before the championship). Lidge not recover? I don't think so - Mo recovered from 1997, 2001 and 2004 quite nicely. What should be bothering Lidge is that Charley Manuel buried him after one mediocre outing (game 4). Two more evident losers: 1. The Mets - the World Series loss means the Phillies go after the same players the Mets covet (Lackey and Bay, for example) and 2. The Wilpons - who chose not to spend their SNY funny money on players but instead gave it to Madoff to expand their own wealth.

Since Mo threw that final pitch on Wednesday, I have not gotten down from my cloud yet.

This championship means so much to me in so many different ways that I can scarcely begin to scratch the surface to find the adequate words to express how happy and proud I feel. I haven't felt this euphoric in a quite a long time.

This is just so unbelievably special. I'm such a proud New Yorker - I'm truly born and raised here, still live here, and never, ever want to move away from here. Not to the suburbs, nor to anywhere else. Right here in the five boroughs.

To me, in my heart, nothing and no one represents the heart and soul of this city or the heart and soul of New Yorkers like the New York Yankees. I realize that New York is the sports hub of the world. I recognize that the Yankees are not the only baseball team that plays here or had played here, but no other sports team has been entrenched into the culture of this city like the Yankees. No one. For 106 years the Yankees have laid roots that run very deep, very long-reaching and anchored into the hearts of millions of generations here - from the Roaring 20's right up to this year at the end of the first decade of the 21st Century.

There's a reason why the Yankees are so rich and can spend as much. Just look at their history and all the peoples' lives they touch all over the country -- and even in parts of the rest of the world. When something is THIS successful, wealth is only a natural by-product of it all. And playing in the greatest city on planet Earth helps with that, too.

This is a truly special time for me and for millions of us right now. I feel like as New Yorkers, we can walk a little taller with a little more spring in our step.

And to the Phillies, they are a great team and played tough, but did they really think they were going to stop this juggernaut?

I decided to check out the Boston Globe to see how they were handling the Yankees' victory. Not much, except Dan Shaughnessy's pre-Game 6 column was still up on the site, and he was practically predicting victory for Pedro (didn't work out for either of them), and said, "All these years later, he’s still pitching for the Red Sox." Then maybe the Phillies can ask the Red Sox to pay his salary. Maybe the Mets can get reimbursed, too.

Uncle Mike - I'm still not sure if Girardi is the greatest manager in the world but only time will tell. Isn't it funny that many of the Yankees' best managers were one that had black marks when they got into the job? Huggins and McCarthy were failed NL managers. Stengel was too, but also considered a clown. Martin was known as a loose cannon and Torre was "Clueless Joe". The next few years for Girardi should be very interesting......

In my opinion, wining the 27th edition of the World Series calls for a huge celebration.

The New York Yankees have indeed achieved a huge feat... so lets go celebrate them.

I learn that the final ceremony will be held at the City Hall Plaza.

Like someone said, those who can't make it to the venue should watch it online.

I can breathe! What a series. Phillies were a formidable opponent and really the only team that made me very nervous.
What a thrill. I think the thing that most impresses me about this team is that when thinking about MVP, yes, Matsui was incredible last night but this team is so deep and is so connected it could have been Jeter, Damon, Mo, A-Rod, CC, etc. They won because everyone contributed and they had each other's backs. This is what the Yankees are all about.

A-Rod gets his ring. Nobody can say anything anymore -- not even me. Matsui gets his ring. Teixeira gets his ring. Damon is redeemed, is "de-idioted." Girardi joins Huggins, McCarthy, Harris, Stengel, Houk, Martin and Torre as Pennant-winning Yankee managers -- and joins Houk and Martin as the only ones to win it as a Yankee player and the Yankee manager.

I tried to get in, even trying to talk my way into the Hard Rock or NYY Steak. No soap. But I did get to see Mickey Rivers, Jim Leyritz, Joe Pepitone and Fritz Peterson. (Considering my age and their respective successes, yes, it's in that order.)

I saw the last 3 innings on the big board in Times Square. And we celebrated like human beings, not like those animals in Boston.

And when it was over, I walked back to Port Authority, and, just because I'm that much of a wisenheimer (I used a different description on my blog, because I set the rules there), I walked down to the bottom level of Port Authority, to Gate 84, which is where buses to Boston board. I wanted to say a few words to Boston fans.

There weren't any. Nobody wanted to go to Boston last night! Oh well, maybe another time.
