Zoom in and see the Web more clearly

Internet Explorer Zoom lets you enlarge or reduce the view of a Web page. This feature allow you to see everything on the page as its zoom level including text and images.

Open your Internet Explorer.
On the lower-right corner of the Internet Explorer screen, click on the arrow next to the button .
Select the level of zoom you want your page to enlarge.
Want a specific zoom level, click Custom. In the Percentage zoom box, type a zoom value, and then click OK.

Magnify your screen

Sometimes you need to look at something that may be too small to view on your screen, then it is the best to turn on your windows magnifier glass.

Magnify your desktop with Windows Magnifier

Windows has a built in Magnifier that lets you magnify your computer screen. Magnifier is a lot like built-in bifocals you can adjust. You see two screens, one the way you've customized it, and one that shows the larger font.

You can move your mouse pointer anywhere on the non-magnified part of the page, and then type your changes in the magnified section.

Here's how to use Magnifier in Windows 7 or Windows Vista:

Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click Ease of Access, and then click Magnifier.
You have 3 options to chose from.
With Full-screen: your entire screen is magnified. You can then have Magnifier follow the mouse pointer.
With Lens mode: the specific area around the mouse pointer is magnified (look at the picture below). The area that's magnified moves along with your mouse pointer.
With Docked mode: only a portion of the screen is magnified, leaving the rest of your desktop in a normal state.
The Magnifier dialog box appears on the task bar. To close the magnifier, enlarge the dialog box, and click Close.

Note

Full-screen mode and lens mode are only available as part of the Aero experience. If your computer doesn't support Aero, or if you're using a theme other than an Aero theme, Magnifier will only work in docked mode.

Change keyboard settings

Once you’ve gotten more familiar with your keyboard, there are a few settings you can change to help you work more smoothly.
You can alter:

Control the time that you need to press a key before the keyboard character starts repeating.
Control the speed at which keyboard characters repeat, which helps you to avoid typing the same letter recurrently.
The cursor blinking rate at which the mouse pointer flashes which can help its noticeable place.

Uninstall Windows Live

Recently I have some trouble to install the Windows Live in one of my client’s computer. The client told me that after she was using the control panel to uninstall her MSN messenger, then she tried to reinstall the Windows Live again, then she got the following message, “unable to cast Com object of type mshtml.htmlDocumentClass”.
Here is the steps that I read from one of MS Technical Support team and the Windows Live works just fine.

1. Completely Uninstall Windows Live Essentials

a. Click Start, click Run, type the following command, and then click OK:
control appwiz.cpl
b. Under Currently installed programs, locate Windows Live Essentials.
c. Click Remove.
d. A new window will open. Select Uninstall and click on Continue.
e. Select all the Windows Live programs listed and click on Continue.

f. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the un-installation of all the Windows Live programs.

2. Delete the Windows Live folder

a. Browse to the following location: C:\Progam Files
b. Look for the Windows Live folder and then delete it.

3. Clear the entries in the Windows Installer database by using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

a. Visit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and click on the link: Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility Package now.
b. Save the file on your desktop.
c. Right-click the setup file (msicuu2.exe) and choose Run as Administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
d. Once you have successfully installed the program, start the utility.

1. Click Start.
2. Click Programs.
3. Click Windows Install Clean Up.

e. On the list of Installed Products, select all instances that have (All Users) Windows Live on it. To make sure that you are removing the right programs, click on one item at a time then click on the Remove button until all entries with (All Users) Windows Live are deleted from the list.
f. Click Exit.
g. Restart your computer to make sure that all changes made will take effect.

4. Perform Windows Update

a. Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
b. Verify that the computer requires updates, and then install the updates if necessary.
c. Restart the computer after you apply the updates.

5. Reinstall Windows Live Messenger

a. Visit http://download.live.com
b. Download and install Windows Live Messenger.
If the above steps don't work, please provide us with the following logs so we can investigate this issue further:

Steps to collect log files:

1. Collect the WLSetup Logs

Look for the Logs folder from the following path:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\WLSetup
Inside the WLSetup folder, look for the Logs folder. Please zip/compress a copy of the folder and attach it when you respond to this email.

2. Windows Update Logs
a. Click on Start and type the following command on the Run box then click on OK:
%Windir%\

b. Scroll down to the WindowsUpdate.log file
c. Right-click and point to Send To then click on Compressed (zipped) Folder.
Note: The compressed file will be saved on the same location with the filename WindowsUpdate.zip and this will be the file to be attached on your reply.

3. System Information

a. Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type msinfo32 , and then press ENTER on your keyboard to open the System Information window.
Note: It may take several seconds for this information to be collected and displayed.
b. In the System Information window, click Save on the File menu. Save the file to a desired location.
c. Locate the file that you saved, right-click the file, select Send To, and then select Compressed (zipped) Folder. A compressed file is created in the same folder. Send the compressed file to us.

4. Event Viewer Logs
a. Click Start, click Run, type eventvwr and then press ENTER to open the Event Viewer window.
b. On the left pane, right-click Application.
c. Click Save Log File As.
d. A new window will open. On the File Name, type Event Viewer.
e. Click Save. The file is now saved under the My Documents folder.
f. Go to the My Documents folder. Right click on the Event Viewer file and click Send To, choose Compressed (zipped) file.

g. Please attach the zipped file to your reply.

How to delete a printer driver?

Nowadays everybody has a lot more of printers/devices installed on their desktop and most of the time we do not even remember anything about these devices anymore. The drivers just sit there and take more of the precious space from your hard drive. Also those obsolete drivers can definitely slow down your computer quite a bit.
Here is the easiest way to do it yourself and it can help you to get rid of the old printer drivers out of your windows.

Click on the “Start” button and select “Devices and Printers” as in the following picture:

Right click on the printer that you want to discard. From the popup context menu, select “Remove device”.

Windows will automatically uninstall the driver of that particular printer out of the hard drive for you.

Bring back "Quick Launch" toolbar in windows 7

These are the few steps to bring back "Quick Launch" in Windows 7:

Right click on an empty space on the "Taskbar" and make sure "Lock the taskbar" is unlocked (not having a check mark) as it is in the folowing picture - this will allow us to move the "Quick Launch" toolbar the way we want later on.

Now right click on an empty space again on the "taskbar" and from the resulting "Menu", click "Toolbars" and then "New toolbar..." as shown in the picture below.

After click the "New toolbar" - Copy and paste the folowing location in the address bar as shown below: %appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch then click "Select Folder

The Quick Launch toolbar will now appear on the "taskbar", but it is on the right side of the screen next to the System Tray. Now we can move it back to the left side where the toolbar should be.

Click on the left edge (dotted lines) of the new "Quick Launch" toolbar, hold down the left mouse button and drag it all the way to the left as far as you can.

Right click on any empty space on the "Taskbar" from the right side of "Quick Launch". To remove the text and labels, uncheck both "Show Text" and "Show Title". At this point, the Quick Launch toolbar looks like it did in Windows XP and Vista, but it’s still on the right side.

Hold and drag the left edge of the regular Windows taskbar toolbar (dotted lines to the right of the Start button) to the right of the taskbar, and over the new "Quick Launch" toolbar. By doing this, your "Quick Launch" will move to the left next to the "Start" button. When you like the size of your new tool bars, you can let go your mouse.

You can now drag and drop your favorite applications or shortcuts onto the new Quick Launch toolbar and “unpin” the default applications from the regular taskbar.

Once you finished adding your favorite programs to your "Quick Launch" toolbar, right-click a blank space on the taskbar and click “Lock the taskbar”.

Right click on an empty "Taskbar" and select "Properties". Make sure to mark "Lock the taskbar" and "use small icons" are checked. Doing this will enable small icons under the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties menu.

With the new Quick Launch toolbar in place and no applications “pinned” to the regular taskbar, my Desktop is just the old Windows XP. That's the way I like them.
