Best Screen Capturing & Recording Software

1. OBS Studio

OBS Studio is one of the best free tools for screen recording and live streaming. It is powerful, flexible, open source, and available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. If your main need is high-quality recording with audio sources, webcam overlays, multiple scenes, and advanced control, OBS Studio is the strongest free choice.

Best for: Professional recording, tutorials, YouTube videos, live streaming, advanced workflows

Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux
License: Free and Open Source
Official website: https://obsproject.com/

2. ShareX

ShareX is an excellent free and open-source screen capture tool for Windows. It is especially popular with power users because it supports region capture, scrolling screenshots, quick sharing, workflow automation, GIF recording, and many post-capture actions. If you want a highly customizable screenshot tool without paying anything, ShareX is hard to beat.

Best for: Advanced screenshots, automation, scrolling capture, quick sharing

Platforms: Windows
License: Free and Open Source
Official website: https://getsharex.com/

3. Snagit

Snagit is one of the most polished premium tools for both screenshots and screen recording. It is ideal for people who create tutorials, product walkthroughs, documentation, visual instructions, or support content. Its real strength is not just capturing your screen, but helping you quickly annotate, explain, and present what you captured in a professional way.

Best for: Business users, educators, bloggers, documentation, polished visual communication

Platforms: Windows, macOS
License: Commercial
Official website: https://www.techsmith.com/snagit/

4. Snipping Tool

Snipping Tool has become much more useful on modern Windows systems. It is no longer just a simple screenshot utility. It now supports both image snips and video snips, making it a very practical built-in option for quick captures without installing any third-party software. For many casual users, this may be enough on its own.

Best for: Quick screenshots and simple screen recording on Windows

Platforms: Windows
License: Built-in / Free
Official page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screenshots-00246869-1843-655f-f220-97299b865f6b

5. Xbox Game Bar

Xbox Game Bar is another built-in Windows option that is useful for quick screen recording, especially for apps and gameplay. It is not as flexible as OBS Studio, but it is very convenient when you need to start recording quickly without setting up a separate program.

Best for: Quick app recording, gameplay recording, simple screen capture on Windows

Platforms: Windows
License: Built-in / Free
Official info: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-a-screen-reader-to-record-your-screen-with-xbox-game-bar-5328cd25-9046-4472-8a14-c485f138802c

6. Greenshot

Greenshot remains one of the best lightweight screenshot tools for Windows. It is fast, simple, and great for daily productivity. If you mainly need screenshots with quick annotation, highlighting, obfuscation, and export options, Greenshot is still a very good choice.

Best for: Lightweight screenshots, quick annotations, everyday office use

Platforms: Windows
License: Open Source
Official website: https://getgreenshot.org/

7. Screenpresso

Screenpresso is still a strong choice for people who create documentation, software walkthroughs, and training content. It combines screenshot capture, screen recording, editing, and project organization in a way that works well for support teams and tutorial creators.

Best for: Documentation, support content, training guides, organized capture workflows

Platforms: Windows
License: Freemium
Official website: https://www.screenpresso.com/

8. FastStone Capture

FastStone Capture is a compact and capable paid capture tool that many users still appreciate for its speed and simplicity. It supports screenshots, scrolling capture, annotation, and screen recording in a lightweight package. It is a good option for users who want something simpler than Snagit but still feature-rich.

Best for: Lightweight paid capture and recording, practical desktop workflows

Platforms: Windows
License: Commercial
Official website: https://www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm

9. PicPick

PicPick is especially useful for designers and developers because it combines screenshots with extra visual tools such as a color picker, pixel ruler, magnifier, protractor, and crosshair. It is more than just a screenshot app, which makes it useful in design and UI work.

Best for: Designers, developers, UI work, visual measurement tools

Platforms: Windows
License: Free Personal / Commercial options available
Official website: https://picpick.app/

10. LICEcap

LICEcap is a small and simple tool designed mainly for recording animated GIFs. It does not try to be a full screenshot suite, but for quick visual demonstrations, bug reports, and tiny looped tutorials, it is still very useful.

Best for: GIF recording, short visual demonstrations, bug reporting

Platforms: Windows, macOS
License: Free

11. Shutter

Shutter is still worth mentioning for Linux users looking for a dedicated screenshot tool. It is focused more on screenshots than modern full recording workflows, but it remains relevant in Linux-focused lists.

Best for: Linux screenshot workflows

Platforms: Linux
License: Open Source
Official website: https://shutter-project.org/

12. GifCam

GifCam is another lightweight option for animated GIF recording. It is very simple and still useful for users who specifically want quick GIF output without extra complexity.

Best for: Simple GIF screen capture on Windows

Platforms: Windows
License: Free

How to Choose the Right Tool

If you want the best free professional recorder, choose OBS Studio.

If you want the best free advanced screenshot tool, choose ShareX.

If you want the easiest premium all-in-one tool, choose Snagit.

If you want something already built into Windows, use Snipping Tool or Xbox Game Bar.

If you want something lightweight for screenshots, choose Greenshot.

If you create documentation and tutorials regularly, Screenpresso is a strong choice.

If you need animated GIF capture, try LICEcap or GifCam.

Final Thoughts

The best setup for most people is not installing every capture tool available. A much smarter approach is to pick one screenshot tool and one recording tool.

For a powerful free setup, ShareX + OBS Studio is an excellent combination. For a premium productivity-focused setup, Snagit alone may be enough for both screenshots and recording.

This updated list gives a more accurate picture of the current screen capture landscape and is much stronger than an older flat list of mixed tools from past years.

Three years ago, I saw a client lose nearly $47,000 in quarterly revenue for a reason that seemed small at first. Their product images took 8 seconds to load on mobile. Their bounce rate climbed to 73 percent, and analytics showed people leaving before the main image even appeared. That moment made one thing very clear to me. Image optimization is not optional. It is often the difference between a site that makes money and one that quietly loses it.

Over the past five years, I have tested almost every image optimization tool out there, from simple browser tools to full scale enterprise APIs. One thing I learned is that no single tool does everything perfectly. But when you combine the right ones, you can reduce image sizes by 60 to 80 percent without any noticeable loss in quality.

In this guide, I will share the exact tools I use in real production environments, along with their real strengths and limitations, not polished marketing claims.

1. TinyPNG / TinyJPG

<defs><linearGradient id="tool-grad-1" x1="0" y1="0" x2="1" y2="1"><stop offset="0%" stop-color="#0f172a"/><stop offset="100%" stop-color="#22c55e"/></linearGradient></defs>
<rect width="1200" height="630" rx="28" fill="url(#tool-grad-1)"/><rect x="70" y="70" width="170" height="170" rx="34" fill="#ffffff" opacity="0.14"/><text x="70" y="360" fill="#ffffff" font-size="78" font-weight="700">TinyPNG / TinyJPG</text><text x="70" y="434" fill="#dcfce7" font-size="34">Smart compression for PNG and JPG files</text><text x="70" y="512" fill="#bbf7d0" font-size="26">Fast uploads • Smaller images • Better load times</text>

TinyPNG uses smart lossy compression that selectively reduces colors in your images, and I've been using it since 2018. It's the first tool I recommend to clients who need quick wins without technical complexity.

Core Features:

Drag-and-drop web interface that handles up to 20 images at once

Lossy compression using quantization techniques

WordPress and Photoshop plugins for workflow integration

API access for automated processing

Preserves transparency in PNG files

Honest Pros & Cons:

Pros: The compression quality is genuinely impressive - I routinely see 70% file size reductions with zero perceptible quality loss. The interface is dead simple, and batch processing saves hours. The API is reliable and well-documented.

Cons: The free tier only allows 20 images per session, which becomes limiting fast. No support for WebP or AVIF conversion. The API pricing can add up quickly if you're processing thousands of images monthly.

Pricing: Free for web interface (20 images/session). API pricing starts around $25/year for 500 compressions/month (check current rates on their website).

Best For: Small to medium sites needing quick, reliable PNG/JPG compression without learning curves.

2. Squoosh

<defs><linearGradient id="tool-grad-2" x1="0" y1="0" x2="1" y2="1"><stop offset="0%" stop-color="#111827"/><stop offset="100%" stop-color="#3b82f6"/></linearGradient></defs>
<rect width="1200" height="630" rx="28" fill="url(#tool-grad-2)"/><circle cx="180" cy="160" r="88" fill="#ffffff" opacity="0.12"/><text x="70" y="360" fill="#ffffff" font-size="86" font-weight="700">Squoosh</text><text x="70" y="434" fill="#dbeafe" font-size="34">Browser-based compression with fine-tuned controls</text><text x="70" y="512" fill="#bfdbfe" font-size="26">WebP • AVIF • Side-by-side previews</text>

Google's Squoosh is an open-source browser tool that I use when I need granular control over compression settings. It runs entirely in your browser, which means your images never leave your machine - a huge win for client confidentiality.

Core Features:

Real-time visual comparison with split-screen preview

Support for modern formats: WebP, AVIF, JPEG XL

Advanced codec options (MozJPEG, OxiPNG, WebP, AVIF)

Resize and color palette reduction tools

Completely free and open-source

Honest Pros & Cons:

Pros: The visual comparison slider is brilliant for finding the sweet spot between quality and file size. Format support is cutting-edge. Privacy is guaranteed since everything runs client-side. The ability to tweak every compression parameter appeals to my inner control freak.

Cons: One image at a time only - no batch processing. The interface can overwhelm beginners with too many options. No automation capabilities, so it's purely manual work.

Pricing: Completely free, forever.

Best For: Developers who need precise control over individual hero images or when working with sensitive client materials.

3. ImageOptim (Mac Only)

Cons: Mac-only, which excludes Windows and Linux users. No WebP or AVIF support in the GUI version. The default settings are conservative - you need to enable lossy compression manually for better results.

Pricing: Free and open-source.

Best For: Mac users who need reliable, fast batch optimization for existing image libraries.

4. ShortPixel

ShortPixel is the WordPress plugin I install on every client site. It's been running on 23 production sites I manage, and it's saved me countless hours of manual optimization.

Core Features:

Automatic optimization of WordPress media library uploads

Lossy, glossy, and lossless compression modes

WebP and AVIF conversion with automatic delivery

Bulk optimization for existing image libraries

CDN integration and lazy loading

PDF and GIF optimization

Honest Pros & Cons:

Pros: Set-it-and-forget-it automation is perfect for WordPress sites. The glossy mode strikes an excellent balance between quality and compression. WebP delivery with fallbacks works flawlessly. Bulk optimization of legacy libraries is a lifesaver. Customer support actually responds within hours.

Cons: Credit-based pricing can get expensive for high-volume sites. The free tier's 100 images/month runs out fast. Optimization happens on their servers, not yours, which adds processing latency.

Pricing: Free tier: 100 images/month. Paid plans typically start around $4.99/month for several thousand images (verify current pricing on their website).

Best For: WordPress sites that need automated optimization without manual intervention.

5. Cloudinary

Cloudinary is the enterprise solution I recommend when clients need dynamic image transformation at scale. I've used it on e-commerce platforms serving millions of monthly visitors.

Core Features:

URL-based image transformations (resize, crop, format conversion on-the-fly)

Automatic format selection (WebP, AVIF) based on browser support

Responsive image generation with srcset automation

AI-powered content-aware cropping

Global CDN delivery

Video optimization and transformation

Honest Pros & Cons:

Pros: The URL-based transformation API is incredibly powerful - change image dimensions by editing a URL parameter. Automatic format delivery means you serve WebP to modern browsers and legacy formats to older ones without thinking. The AI cropping actually works well for product images. CDN performance is excellent globally.

Cons: Steep learning curve for the transformation syntax. Pricing complexity makes budgeting difficult. Vendor lock-in is real - migrating away is painful. The free tier's bandwidth limits are hit quickly on production sites.

Pricing: Free tier available with limited credits. Paid plans typically start around $89/month (pricing varies based on usage - check their website for current rates).

Best For: E-commerce platforms and content-heavy sites needing dynamic image delivery at scale.

Cons: Requires Node.js development skills. Native dependencies can be tricky to deploy on some platforms. No GUI - purely programmatic. Learning curve for the API.

Pricing: Free and open-source.

Best For: Node.js developers building custom image processing services or serverless functions.

10. Optimizilla

Optimizilla is the web tool I share with non-technical clients who need something simpler than Squoosh but more capable than TinyPNG.

Core Features:

Upload up to 20 images simultaneously

Visual quality slider for each image

Real-time preview of compression results

JPEG and PNG support

No registration required

Honest Pros & Cons:

Pros: The quality slider with live preview is intuitive for non-developers. Batch processing 20 images at once is practical. Completely free with no registration. Good compression quality.

Cons: No modern format support (WebP, AVIF). The 20-image limit is restrictive for larger projects. No API or automation options. Uploads to their servers, so privacy-sensitive projects should avoid it.

Pricing: Completely free.

Best For: Non-technical users who need occasional batch optimization with visual quality control.

My Recommended Tool Stack

After five years of testing, here's the combination I use on every project:

For WordPress sites: ShortPixel plugin (set-and-forget automation)

For static sites: Sharp + GitHub Actions (automated multi-format generation)

For one-off hero images: Squoosh (visual quality control)

For bulk legacy optimization: ImageOptim on Mac, or TinyPNG for cross-platform

For e-commerce at scale: Cloudinary (dynamic transformations + CDN)

Final Thoughts

Image optimization is not something you do once and forget. It is an ongoing practice. The tools I mentioned here have helped my clients recover hundreds of thousands in lost revenue by keeping page load times under two seconds. A good place to start is with the easiest wins. Run your existing images through TinyPNG or ImageOptim today. Then move toward automated workflows using tools like Sharp or ShortPixel.

The web has largely adopted modern formats like AVIF and WebP. WebP now has near-universal browser support (over 97% globally as of 2026), and AVIF support has grown significantly with Safari 16+ and other modern browsers. If you are not using these formats yet, you are missing potential file size reductions of 40 to 50 percent compared to traditional JPEG/PNG.

Think back to that client who lost $47,000. After applying this workflow, their mobile load time dropped from 8 seconds to 1.9 seconds. Their bounce rate fell to 31 percent, and their quarterly revenue fully recovered within six months. Image optimization may not feel exciting, but it delivers some of the highest returns you can get from a website improvement.

Test your own images using these tools, measure the results carefully, and let real data guide your decisions. Your users and your revenue will both benefit.

Whenever you edit a post or page, WordPress makes several copies of the same. As helpful as it is, a lot of post revisions may over time add a lot of weight to a database. Using a simple configuration setting, we will demonstrate in this tutorial how to restrict the number of times a post can be revised in WordPress.

You should amend the file wp-config.php that is in the root directory of your WordPress installation.

Before the line in which it says /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */, add the following line of code:

define( 'WP_POST_REVISIONS', 5 );

Above line restricts WordPress to 5 revisions per post or page. Revisions that are old by default will be deleted.

How to Disable Post Revisions Completely?

To completely turn off post revisions, or you can use the following code instead:

define( 'WP_POST_REVISIONS', false );

Save the wp-config.php file and continue editing your posts as usual. Limiting the number of post revision prevents the heavy size of the database, enhances performance and ensures your WordPress installation is optimized.

One of the strong security features that Facebook offers in order to guard your account against unauthorized access is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). Once this feature is switched on, you will be required to have a special login code or confirmation on your device besides the password each time you log in to your account in a different location or in a different device.

Why Enable Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-Factor Authentication is one additional security measure that you would gain on your Facebook account. Here’s what it does:

Hack-proof: No matter who steals your password, that person will not be able to log in without the second authentication factor.

Gives real-time notifications: You will be alerted every time a strange log-in takes place.

Allows several verification options: You may use SMS, authentication applications, or a security key.

Hack-proof: No matter who steals your password, that person will not be able to log in without the second authentication factor.
Gives real-time notifications: You will be alerted every time a strange log-in takes place.
Allows several verification options: You may use SMS, authentication applications, or a security key.

How to Turn On Two-Factor Authentication on Facebook

Note: You can enable 2FA through the Facebook mobile app or the desktop site. Make sure you have access to your phone or authenticator app before starting.

Method 1: On Desktop

Go to Facebook.com and log in to your account.

Click the profile picture at the top-right corner and choose Settings & Privacy → Settings.

From the left menu, click Security and Login.

Under Two-Factor Authentication, click Edit.

Choose your preferred method:

Authentication App (recommended): Use apps like Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, or Authy.

Text Message (SMS): Receive a code on your registered phone number.

Security Key: Use a physical key like YubiKey for the highest security.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup and confirm your login method.

Method 2: On Mobile App

Open the Facebook app on your phone.

Tap the Menu (☰) icon.

Go to Settings & Privacy → Settings.

Tap Account Center → Password and Security.

Under Two-Factor Authentication, tap Set Up.

Choose between Authentication App or Text Message and follow the prompts to complete the setup.

Backup and Recovery Tips

Save your recovery codes in a secure place — you can use them if you lose your phone.

Consider adding a backup authentication method for emergencies.

Never share your authentication codes with anyone.

How to Turn Off Two-Factor Authentication (Not Recommended)

You can disable 2FA anytime by visiting the same settings page and selecting Turn Off. However, this makes your account more vulnerable to unauthorized access.

Why 2FA Matters

One of the simplest and most convenient methods of securing your Facebook account is Two-Factor Authentication. Attackers will not be able to access your account even in the case of a stolen password unless they perform your second verification. It is a compact system set up that provides massive protection.

Tip: When possible, always use an authenticator app, not SMS because it is more resistant to SIM-swap attacks.

You can even take a few minutes and enable Two-Factor Authentication today, which is one of the most secure and the easiest methods to have your Facebook account secured against unauthorized access.

20 Best Christmas Landing Page Templates

I create lots of seasonal sale, event and gift campaigns landing pages all through the year. Christmas projects are always associated with the most aggressive deadlines and that is why I use familiar landing page templates to work effectively. I use such templates as clean hero sections, countdown timers, prominent call-to-action buttons, and minimal festive design items that help to make the page feel warm during the holiday season but without slowing down the performance of the page.

The list of 20 landing page templates that I often use is presented below and is Christmas-related. There is a range of types in terms of the collection: pure HTML landing page, Adobe Muse templates, landing page designs with a coming soon, generalized campaign introduction pages that could be customized to the whole period of the holiday between Black Friday and New Year Day. Each and every template can be customized with brand color and logos easily, deployed very fast, and works well with mobile devices to optimize conversion rates.

You can also change the name on your profile on Facebook in case you have recently got married or you want to use a nickname or you would need to use your display name due to personal reasons. Nevertheless, there are rules and restrictions of Facebook to make sure that the name is what presents your true identity and integrity of the platform.

What to Know Before Changing Your Name

These are the things to be remembered before changing your Facebook name:

Frequency: You are allowed to change your name after every 60 days.

Real name policy: Facebook demands that the name of your profile should be the same name as your day-to-day name.

Banned names: You can not use symbols, strange capitalization, titles, and offensive words.

Restriction on language: 1 language at a time only You can use either one language alphabet at once.

How to Change Your Facebook Name

Note: You are able to edit your name on the Facebook site on a desktop or the mobile application. Options vary a little bit based on which device you are using.

Method 1: Change Name on Desktop

Go to Facebook.com and log into your account.

Click the down arrow (top-right corner) and select Settings & Privacy.

Click Settings.

Under the General tab, click Name.

Enter your new first, middle, or last name as needed.

Click Review Change and confirm your new display format.

Enter your password to save changes.

Method 2: Change Name on Mobile App

Open the Facebook app on your Android or iPhone.

Tap the Menu icon (☰).

Scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy → Settings.

Under Account, select Personal Information.

Tap Name.

Type your new name and tap Review Change.

Enter your password and tap Save Changes.

Common Name Change Issues

Recent name changes: Under the conditions of new name, when you changed your name not more than 60 days ago, you are not allowed to change your name till the restriction period is passed.

Nickname use: Go to Other Names to insert nicknames or maiden names rather than using your first name.

Check request: Facebook can require an ID to check your real name in case your alteration is considered abnormal.

Why Change Your Facebook Name?

Changing your Facebook name can make your profile more in line with your actual identity or business persona. It can be an event in life or just a choice, but Facebook does the same by making it simple but ensuring that the process stays safe by preventing cases of fake accounts.

Hint: When you use Facebook as a business, it would be better to create a Facebook Page with your professional name, rather than regularly switching the name of your personal profile.

It is only a matter of a few minutes before you change your name on Facebook and create a big difference in the way others perceive you in the virtual world. Always look twice at your spelling and read the name standards of Facebook then confirm your update.
