The rationale for saying this is as each addict desires an additional support when he or she wants to quit. I actually have noted with shock on many forums how lots of addicts post their disappointment at trying to quit and be free from drug abuse. In reaction, I always attempt to comfort plus encourage such individuals that when they can't pull out of their drug addiction downside alone successfully, they have to quickly rummage around for a good and dependable drug rehabilitation clinic that may support them.

Drug rehabilitation clinics have numerous types of execs that can help you or a loved one grappling with addiction and drug abuse. These professionals have abetted a whole lot of human beings like you. One of these experts is a physician. As your body has been accustomed to taking medication, you will need the help of a physician to help alter your body system. Numerous people that have tried quitting rapidly have discovered that they often have a relapse after not many days. This is since the body will react negatively to the new amendment you wish to enforce on it. This is where a general practitioner comes in. It is the duty of the doctor to help you your body change to the new method of life by providing you with medicine that will ease the transition. It looks dangerous trying to perform this on your own. In addition, the doctor will supervise you and observe how your body is responding.

Another expert you'll doubtless meet at a drug rehabilitation clinic is a nutrionist. It is the responsibility of this expert to make sure that you are given food that might nourish your body and assist your body to regulate to the new way of life you need to accomplish. When you want to quit taking medication or abuse of medicine, you may wish to have a special type of food and this kind of food is solely known by a professional nutrionist. Mind you, it looks useless attempting to research concerning the foods you may take. Leave that to a nutritionist.

At an excellent and dependable drug rehabilitation clinic, you will meet together with a psychologist. Their duty is to help your mind. Before now, your mind is on drugs. She has the expertise to help you condition your mind so that it does not rely on medicine for its existence. Additionally, you want his or her help to aid you form habits that may move your mind away from medicine to better things of life.

Attending any of the drug rehabilitation clinics around you is extremely suggested if you or a loved one cannot quit drug addiction or drug abuse on your own. Search around you for a good and reliable one. You will get all the assistance you demand.
According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), about 3 percent of the U.S population engaged in non-medical use of psychotherapeutic drugs in 2006. Recent studies show that these numbers are rising steadily every year.

The term "psychotherapeutic drug" is applied to medicines traditionally used in medical treatment to alter a patient's mood or state of mind. Drugs that fall into this category include pain relievers, depressants, and stimulants, among others. Such medicines are typically prescribed for conditions ranging from physical pain to mental or emotional distress. When used correctly, psychotherapeutic drugs are very effective in reducing pain and discomfort that a patient might not be able to endure on their own. The problem arises when such drugs are used incorrectly.

In 2008 testimony before a Senate subcommittee, Medical Epidemiologist Dr. Leonard J. Paulozzi of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that more than 22,000 American lives are lost each year due to accidental drug overdoses, and that unintentional overdose deaths are statistically related to the increasing use of prescription drugs, especially opioid painkillers.

This point was underscored by Andrew Kolodny, chairman of psychiatry at Maimonides Medical Center in New York City. "Prescribing practices have changed to the point where physicians are much more liberal, largely through pharmaceutical marketing. We've trained a whole generation of physicians to believe that if you prescribe opiates to patients who have legitimate pain that there's little or no risk of addiction or misuse."

Easy access to prescription drugs from legitimate physicians is just one of the issues. Illegal prescribing by unscrupulous physicians, and illegal distribution by unscrupulous pharmacies, is also on the rise. Prescription drug abusers are often able to obtain whatever prescription they want if they are willing to pay the price, and some pharmacists have gained a reputation of filling such prescriptions without question.

With the advent of online pharmacies a prescription is often not needed. According to a 2009 study by OpSec Security, a firm monitoring pharmaceutical counterfeiting, the availability of online pharmacies that do not require a prescription has risen 65% in the last two years. While highly controlled substances are generally not available online, many of the drugs that are available are very dangerous when taken in high doses or in combination with other drugs.

Perhaps one of the most alarming facts concerning prescription drug abuse is the frequency of use among high school age children. According once again to NIDA, almost ten percent of high school seniors were taking the powerful opiate Vicodin, and more than five percent were taking the highly addictive opiate OxyContin. Given the well known statistic that early drug use greatly increases the likelihood of developing a pathological dependence later in life, we can begin to understand why addiction is increasing at such alarming rates in young adults.

One often overlooked aspect of prescription drug abuse is its link to illegal drug use. Prescription drug abuse is still generally looked upon as being something separate and above the use of common street drugs. But prescription drugs tend to be more expensive than their street counterparts, and as drug users become more and more tolerant they tend to drift toward the use of cheaper and more easily available substitutes.

One persistent problem with prescription drug abuse is the difficulty many medical practitioners have in recognizing the problem in their patients. Generalists tend to focus on the presenting problems of their patients and often overlook hidden or suppressed difficulties. Specialists are reluctant to offer an opinion outside the scope of their specialty. Substance abuse problems may go unrecognized for years until a crisis brings the issue to the forefront. Unfortunately this crisis may often take the form of an overdose or other life-threatening episode that might have been avoided by earlier detection.

Prescription drug abuse is no longer the invisible problem it was just a few years ago. Due in part to the studies mentioned above and in part to the recent highly publicized and deeply tragic prescription drug related deaths of several well known celebrities, prescription drug abuse is now recognized as one of the more serious health problems we are facing. The more awareness that we give to the problem, the better our chances of helping those in need, and the better our chances of avoiding the loss of life through misuse of drugs that were intended to heal.
Using drugs is one of these things. Using drugs is going to be important depending on the amount and how often the drug use is going to occur. One of the things that will be affected by your drug abuse is your blood pressure. You have to figure out that your blood pressure is something that can be dangerously damaged by your drug use. It is going to be very important that you know what this could mean in order to keep your body healthy.

If you have high blood pressure, you are going to be more at risk for many different types of health problems. Your body is not going to be healing well after an injury and it will not repair itself after being sick. Actually, high blood pressure is something that can lead to a lot of trouble during your life, and to help keep this from happening there are some things that you should think about doing.

The first thing is that you should get a lot of exercise for your body. You need to be getting your heart pumping for a long period of time several times a week. This is a good way to keep your heart in shape and make sure that you are not going to develop high blood pressure. You will need to eat a good diet and stay away from high fat and cholesterols, and you should be doing whatever is healthier for your body when it comes to the food that you put in your mouth.

Any kind of drug will have a huge impact on your blood pressure. If you are getting the right amount of exercise and eating well, you are still hurting your body if you are using drugs. You should know that when you put anything into your blood system it not only makes you feel good by getting you high, it will also do damage to all of your inside organs and all of the other parts of your body. Doing drugs will raise your blood pressure as well as do many other terrible things to you and your body. You need to think about this and remember that doing drugs is going to make your body sick and it will not get better. You do not want to have a drug problem and increase your chances of dying too early in life. This will happen if you continue to do drugs and do not take care of your body and keep your blood pressure under control.
Drugs are imported into the US by smuggling and then are available on streets for people to purchase. Because it is illegal to buy or sell drugs in America, many line shave been blurred about the variety and quality of drugs available.

Because narcotics are not illegal all over the world, production and refining is hard to target and control. The problem of abuse of drugs stems from addiction and people being willing to do anything to get the drugs their body needs.

More than ever before, the numbers are rising in terms of people's abuse of drugs when taking prescription medications. Some patients will be to numerous doctors in different towns to obtain the same prescriptions and then abuse the amount they consume.

Because there are so many cracks in the legal system regarding drug use, people can deal and/or use drugs for years without ever being detected. It is difficult to trace the origin of a drug when it has been passed to so many people and manufactured so widely.

In schools educators try to teach youth about the abuse of drugs. There are gateway drugs that make trying heavier drugs seem not as serious down the road. These gateway drugs are marketed toward youth because they are more impressionable and also because the younger they become addicted, the harder it will be for them to quit.

The abuse of drugs is hard to stop on your own. Most people have to go through a safe, medical detox to first rid the drugs from their system. Massive amounts of communication with professionals helps in figuring out why the person started to use drugs in the first place. Normally, until that answer is found, the person will always return to their drug of choice.

Prevention is the strongest agent against the abuse of drugs. Modern medicine tends to treat the symptom, not the core problem, which is why some people become worse from medication or addicted to medication. When medication can be avoided, the abuse of drugs goes down because the medical problem is being treated internally.

Education is a powerful tool in making sure people realize the truth about drug use. When people know the risks, they are more likely to make well-informed choices and do what is best to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Yet the threat of prosecution does not apparently persuade the millions of people who use marijuana every year to stop using it. This article will look at how marijuana is viewed in the US.

The Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970 legislates the legality of drugs within the United States. The controlled substances are split into five differing categories or 'schedules' based on their medical use and if they are deemed to be possibly abused. Cannabis is classed as a Schedule 1 drug, meaning it has been classed as having no medical use, but with a high possibility of abuse.

There are a number of organisations that are attempting to lobby to reform cannabis laws in the United States. One such organisation, established in 1970, is the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. They aim to present a voice in the debate over the legality of marijuana that believes that there should be a halt to the arrest of marijuana smokers.

In the United Kingdom, Marijuana Seeds (such as Nirvana Seeds) are lawful, however planting and growing them into plants is not permitted.

The topic of marijuana use has been around for many years, from its historic references to modern attitudes. Many contemporary sub-cultures have reference to marijuana use, in many cases this popular status is not only in reference to its psychoactive effects but is also entangled with the notoriety of its legal status. It is difficult to know how the majority of society views cannabis, do they see it as a malign substance whose effects should be controlled, or do people draw comparisons with alcohol and say that it should be the individual's right and responsibility to regulate what they consume. There are many strong views on both sides of this debate.

For some people, the future of the legal standing of marijuana in the US is unclear. Recent statements by the US government are seen by some to be signalling a possible change in attitudes. In fact, some commentators view such possible changes as similar to the amendments that eventually ended the prohibition of alcohol sales. Whether this becomes reality is a question that can only be answered in time.
If more than one person is taking the drug in this manner, there is a high chance that they will share the needles. No one really needs to be reminded that sharing needles is an extremely dangerous activity and the rise in AIDS in Western Civilization was linked to this situation and manner of drug use. Any activity that can lead to the using of unclean needles is highly dangerous and although other manners of taking this drug carry their own concerns, they will not have this particular danger.

Opium is an extremely addictive drug and this carries its own benefits in the fact that people will want to keep taking more over a long period of time. This sits uneasily alongside the fact that the user will develop their own level of tolerance to the medication which will lessen the impact that they will receive from a standard amount of drugs. This will mean that the user is likely to increase the amount of drugs that they are taking, and if the purity level is high, they could be in grave danger. It is hard to determine the purity level of this type of drug before it is consumed, which means that a person who takes a larger amount of the drug is increasing their risk of overdosing.

Like most drugs, there are a number of low level dangers of opium use but all of these can lead to an unpleasant time and could be enough to convince people that taking this form of drug is not to be encouraged. Regular use of this form of medication may see a person frequently throwing up or suffering from dizzy spells and long term feelings of nausea. All of these reactions are fairly unpleasant and could be very off putting for any user. Another issue arises from whether the fact the person has any other activities they wish to be undertaking at this time because the effects of this drug abuse may prevent them from doing so. There is also an increased likelihood of seizures and difficulties in passing water, all of which can greatly impact on a person's life. This means that regardless if the user is a first time user or a regular taker, there are many negative issues associated with this form of drug abuse.

The fact that Opium is one of the most popular and well known drugs in the world indicates that many people have a use for the effects the drug brings but these elements can also have a negative effect. Many use this form of medication because it numbs the pain but this is not always a good solution to problems. In fact, this can actually cause greater problems with users being unaware that they have injuries or problems due to the fact that the drugs are muting and numbing the pain being experienced by a person, which may prevent them seeking the help they need.
About the Author
Even though opium is one of the drugs that most people are aware of in the world, there is still a lot of misinformation and doubt surrounding the use of the drug. Yes, there are obviously benefits associated with using this type of drug but many of the negative elements are of such a high level that many people need to reconsider the benefits of taking it.

If you speak to any recovering
alcoholic or drug addict who has attended any form of rehabilitation, they will tell you that the therapists all want the admission and acceptance that there is a problem, before the healing process and rehabilitation can begin. If I as an alcoholic deny that I have a drinking problem or merely give verbal agreement to it, I may just as well never attend any rehab meetings. You see, the healing and rehabilitation process cannot begin or will be ineffective unless I as the alcoholic admit that I have a drinking problem and then accept the fact that help is required.

In the same vein, I as a disabled, otherwise abled or what ever you wish to call it, person, will struggle with rehabilitation and experience great difficulty with coping with the disease or disability. Denial and negativity are equally as damaging to the alcoholic as to the disabled person. Before any form of rehabilitation can take place we have to first ACKNOWLEDGE that there is a problem.

Then we need to ACCEPT that we have a disease or disability that can be lived with even if we cannot beat it. It took me three years to accept that I had an incurable disease called IBM Inclusion Body Myositis, and that no mistake had been made in the diagnosis. I visited every possible doctor or specialist that gave me any hope of a change in diagnosis, searched the internet for hundreds of fruitless hours, swallowed all sorts of potions and pills and read all the literature I could lay my hands on. Why I thought that the books or internet would give me any different information I don't know. The rarity of my disease meant that in a lot of instances I knew more about it than my doctors. After my first visit with them they would hastily read up on the disease. Now I am not pointing fingers at any doctor because there is no man that could memorise all about the thousands of diseases that infest our planet.

Once acknowledged and accepted we need to ADAPT or lives and life styles to accommodate the disease or disability. It is a pointless exercise denying the problem and refusing to adapt your style of doing a particular thing. As an example, by persisting in holding a pen in the same way as you have always done just because you are too stubborn to change, you will succeed only in frustrating and annoying yourself and others. Adapt to a new style that accommodates the problem. You succeed in writing without the frustration, irritation and aggravation just by burying your pride in some available pocket. I kept having sudden unexpected falls while I persisted in denying that I needed walking aids. A walking stick, crutches and a wheeled walker all played their part, even though I still fell on the odd occasion, until I felt that my body could not take any more abuse and decided to use a wheelchair. I can still enjoy my life in a wheelchair providing that my attitude is positive.

Now to make all of this work for you, you need to have the correct positive ATTITUDE. A positive attitude will breed success and your trips to the "depression dungeon" will become fewer and shorter in duration. We may not be able to change the direction of the wind but if we adjust our sails we can certainly go where we want to go. I know that it is difficult to be positive all the time but as soon as you feel the negativity bug, you need to busy yourself with an interest like painting, writing, reading or whatever grabs your fancy. Doing this will take your mind off the negativity and remove the stress of the situation.
Some of those checks include, reference checks, credit checks, and drug testing. Over the past several years the number of companies requiring their employees to take an employment drug test has grown significantly. The purpose of drug testing is to attempt to regulate drug abuse among employees.

And over the past ten years, statistics concerning the drug use of American employees suggest that drug testing is effective. In a ten-year period, the percentage of positive drug tests among employees dropped by half.

Perhaps the most popular, yet the least effective, form of drug testing is the pre-employment drug test. Pre-employment drug testing entails potential employees taking a drug test (usually a urine drug test), and if the result of the test is negative, then he or she will be hired by the organization. Unfortunately, pre-employment drug testing has not always proven to be effective as many people have found ways to tamper with the results. Also, the drug test only occurs once, and in many cases the employee is never drug tested again, which means if he or she uses drugs after the test, the employer may have no way of knowing or of holding the employee responsible for being drug free.

More effective is the random employment drug test. The theory behind random employee drug testing is that the threat of detection is the best method of preventing drug use in the workforce, and, indeed, it has proven to more effectively reduce the number of instances of drug abuse than pre-employment drug testing alone. And urine drug tests are not the only type of drug tests that employers use when testing employees. Saliva drug testing is becoming more and more popular as they are better able to detect recent drug use and are less invasive than other forms of drug testing. Spray or sweat drug testing is also minimally invasive and can detect drug use up to several weeks. And employers can even opt to administer hair drug testing.

It allows for a long window of detection, and there is no way to adulterate a hair specimen. Organizations have taken a variety of measures to ensure that their employees are qualified and law-abiding citizens. And employee drug testing is by far the most popular way of detecting drug abuse and encouraging employees to remain drug free.
Unluckily, a lot of persons often search for short-cut; they are in search of overnight achievement. Anyhow, that is one of the natural instincts of human being. You and I should become conscious that addiction did not commence overnight. It was something that commenced steadily and when it could not be handled, it got a strong hold of the addictive person. So, it is not wonderful to pick short tem treatment for this kind of difficulty. Numerous addicts that enroll for short term rehab frequently go back to their previous way of life just because they did not spend adequate time at the center to successfully take in hand the problem.

Registering with a long term rehab will do you a lot of good. Successfully triumphing over the problem of addiction is not something that can be accomplished within a small period of time. You need as a minimum six or more months in a rehab before you can win the combat against drugs and substances. That length of time is adequate to make you not only to lose hunger for drug and substance abuse but it will also aid you adjust to your new system of life. The latter is very critical. You should do it under the close regulation of experts at the rehab center.

A long tem rehab will be of help to you in three ways. One, you need the support of a medical doctor who will be of assistance to you with useful drug that will convert your body from a drug reliant one to one that does not depend on it. Two, you will require the support of a nutritionist. He or she will assist you in terms of your diet. Since your body has been comfortable to drugs and substances, it is the responsibility of the nutritionist to help you decide the best food intake that will assist your body change to your new manner of life. The third person that you will have access to in a long term rehab is a psychologist. He or she will help shift your mind away from drugs and substances to other valuable things of life.

The good news is that there are numerous rehab centers out there that offer this long term method. But, fee varies depending on what is incorporated into their program. You don't need to stop if you find out some costly centers. Continue looking till you get your hands on inexpensive centers that do not compromise class.
This is an uncomfortable state of being for most people, depending on the type of drugs they are coming off from. If you have been hooked on prescription painkillers, and you suddenly stop taking them, then you might experience a detox effect that makes you feel sick. People who deliberately abuse opiate medications will likely experience these detox symptoms as well.

There is not much you can do about this condition if you are by yourself at home. The best option is to sleep through as much of it as you can, but most people will find that they cannot really sleep while they are detoxing. In this case, you might look into the possibility of going to a drug rehab center, where they can treat you for the withdrawal and give you medication that reduces the way that you feel sick.

There is another option for detox and that is knows as ultra rapid detox. This is a procedure where they put you under as if for surgery and then flush the drugs out of your body all at once. When you wake up from this procedure you will be basically done with your withdrawal and most people will not have much more discomfort afterward. While this might sound like an ideal option for the opiate addict, it is very expensive and not currently covered by most insurance companies. Plus, there is no guarantee that the person will stay clean after having this done, just as with any other treatment procedure.
Although this drug became popular in modern age for its recreational purposes, long-term use of the drug would usually lead to addiction. The process in which this happens is due to its components that usually induce profound relaxation and intense euphoria. Because of increased tolerance that later diminishes the effects for which is usually used for, users would then increase their consumption of the drug, which will then lead to physical dependence.

Although it was used medically in the past, heroin is known today as one of the many drugs that causes severe abuse and drug dependence. However, addiction isn't the only problem that therapists are facing when addicts use heroin. Other than tolerance that leads to addiction, heroin use is also the cause of several adverse effects, from the point that the drug enters the body until the drug is dissolved into the system.

Adverse effects of heroin use other than addiction

For intravenous users of heroin (and any other substance), the use of non-sterile needles and syringes and other related equipment leads to several serious risks such as the risk of contracting blood-borne pathogens such as HIV and hepatitis, the risk of contracting bacterial or fungal endocarditis and possibly venous sclerosis, and abscesses or puss.

Many countries and local governments have begun funding programs that supply sterile needles to people who inject illegal drugs in an attempt to reduce these contingent risks, especially the contraction and spread of blood-borne diseases. According to california drug rehab therapists, the Drug Policy Alliance have released a report that up to 75% of new AIDS cases among women and children are directly or indirectly a consequence of drug use by injection. The United States federal government does not operate needle exchanges, although some state and local governments do support needle exchange programs.

Heroin overdose

Apart from the needle, heroin overdose is also one of the many adverse effects of heroin addiction. Because of the drive to attain the euphoric sensation that these drug is used to provide, addicts would have to increase their intake due to the build up of tolerance. Apart from addiction and physical dependence, the increase of heroin intake could also cause overdose. There are, however, treatments used to counteract the symptoms of heroin overdose.

A heroin overdose is usually treated with an opioid antagonist, such as naloxone (Narcan), or naltrexone, which has high affinity for opioid receptors but does not activate them. According to california drug rehab therapists, this reverses the effects of heroin and other opioid agonists and causes an immediate return of consciousness but may precipitate withdrawal symptoms. The half-life of naloxone is much shorter than that of most opioid agonists, so that antagonist typically has to be administered multiple times until the opioid has been metabolized by the body.

Death from heroin overdose

Depending on drug interactions and numerous other factors, death from overdose can take anywhere from several minutes to several hours due to anoxia because the breathing reflex is suppressed by µ-opioids. An overdose is immediately reversible with an opioid antagonist injection. Heroin overdoses can occur due to an unexpected increase in the dose or purity or due to diminished opioid tolerance. However, according to california drug rehab therapists, many fatalities reported as overdoses are probably caused by interactions with other depressant drugs like alcohol or benzodiazepines.
Marijuana is highly addictive as it potentially affects brain. Marijuana abuse has many adverse affects like indistinct awareness, difficulties in reminiscence and learning, loss of harmonization, increased heart rate and reduced blood pressure.

Marijuana drug test
Marijuana test helps to detect abuse and abuse levels in a person and reduce adverse effects of it in right time. The THC One Step Marijuana Test Strip helps in detecting marijuana and its metabolite, THC effectively in a human urine. Cut-off concentration for THC concentration in human urine is 50 ng/ml. Traces of THC can be found in urine for up to 10 days after abuse.

Process Before The Test
The test device should not cross the expiry date. It should be seen that the seal of the test device is not open. The specimen should be handled similar to handling of an infectious agent. The test device is ready to use only when it brought down to room temperature. The specimen must be collected in a clean and dry container. The specimen should be centrifuged, filtered, or allowed to settle to obtain a clear supernatant for testing, if any precipitates are visible in it.

How to Take the Test
The test device must be dipped vertically into the specimen from the end where arrows are pointing towards it, for 10 - 15 seconds. The immersion should not cross the maximum line provided on the strip. Now the strip should be laid carefully on a non-absorbent flat surface and wait for colored lines to appear in the results window.

Interpretation Of The Test
The results from a THC One Step Marijuana Test Strip must be read at 5 minutes after the test is been conducted. It is ineffective to interpret results after 10 minutes of conducting the test. The result window of drug test strip is labeled C (control line region) and T (test line region). If two colored lines appear on both the regions of result window, then it is interpreted as negative for marijuana abuse test. For a positive result, only one colored line appears in the C region of the window. If a colored line in the C region of the window fails to appear, then the result is invalid. An invalid result might be caused due to insufficient specimen volume or incorrect test procedure.

Marijuana drug test can be performed at home effectively as they provide accurate and reliable results along at the convenience of privacy. As these drug test strips provide instant and effective results, they are also ideal for using at organizations or educational institutions.
What is it, what does it do to my liver, and how can I protect myself? Find out here.

Acetaminophen (or paracetamol in Great Britain) is used by many people today as an over-the-counter drug for pain relief and to reduce fever. Acetaminophen is also an active ingredient in many over the counter cold, flu, and sleeping remedies. It is the active ingredient in many recognized pain relievers such as over the counter drugs Tylenol, Excedrin, and prescription brands Vicoden and Percocet.

Acetaminophen quickly gained popularity when it was introduced into the market in the 1950's since it doesn't contain the warnings for gastrointestinal bleeding and stomach upset that aspirin does. As a result, people may tend to down them quite regularly with little thought. This is not without serious risk.

On June 29 and 30, 2009, the Food and Drug Administration advisory panel held meetings to discuss the safety of acetaminophen and possible new guidelines for safe consumption of this drug. Why the worries? Acetaminophen, when taken according to labels, has been considered generally safe. It is widely used by millions at safe levels with minimal side effects. However, when these guidelines are exceeded, this is called acetaminophen overdose.

What are the dangers of acetaminophen? Most people think of alcohol abuse or hepatitis as being the most common causes of liver failure. They are not. Acetaminophen overdose is the leading cause of liver damage in the United States. This can be manifested in abnormal liver function, elevated liver enzymes, or even liver failure and death. Acetaminophen leaves toxic residues in the liver, and the liver requires assistance to remove them from your body. These residues can build up over time if your liver doesn't have what it needs to do the job. Research has shown us that acetaminophen was the leading cause of acute liver failure in the U.S. from 1998 to 2003.

In the United Kingdom, where acetaminophen is known as paracetamol, it is common practice for those wanting to commit suicide to mix alcohol and acetaminophen, which is one of the dangers of acetaminophen, and this can lead to liver failure. This may prove fatal if not treated right away. As a result, the packaging has been changed on products in that country, and limits have been put on its purchase. The warnings are very clear on the label, and as a result, there have been fewer incidences of suicide attempts with paracetamol overdose. The most common way to treat acetaminophen overdose in Europe if the patient gets to a hospital in time is to administer large doses of a drug called N-Acetyl-Cysteine or NAC. This quickly raises a protein called glutathione in the patient's system, and they may get sick from the high dosage, but it keeps their liver from failing completely and can save their life in this extreme circumstance.

In order to prevent these dangers of acetaminophen, the most important step you can take is to read all of the information on the label, and follow dosing instructions carefully. Do not take more than the recommended dose, even if you think you might need it. One difference between acetaminophen and other painkillers is that the window between therapeutic and toxic doses is much narrower than other drugs. With acetaminophen, there is not much room for error. On the label it will indicate how long or for how many days you should take the medicine. Follow this precaution carefully as well. Generally, you should not be taking this for more than 10 days in a row. Seek medical attention if your problem persists.

And read the labels of all of the medicines you are taking to make sure that you are not "doubling up" on safe dosages to prevent dangers of acetaminophen and acetaminophen overdose. Do not mix acetaminophen with alcohol. This increases the toxic load on the liver.

Know what to look for. Some of the signs of acetaminophen overdose mimc flu symptoms. In this case, you may think you have the flu, but if you have been taking acetaminophen for several days, it is a good idea to seek medical attention immediately. It may save your life! Of course, a common sense approach would be to stay well below the established guidelines if possible to protect your liver even further. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure!

The best way to avoid acetaminophen and liver damage is to take care of your liver and make sure it is not overloaded with toxins in the first place. Additionally, pay close attention to all toxins that your liver is exposed to, whether this be in the form of over the counter or prescription drugs, alcohol, or other toxins in your environment. It is also important to note that use of acetaminophen depletes the levels of protective glutathione in your system. The Food and Drug Administration has a Power Point Presentation that includes a list of glutathione depleting substances. This list includes acetaminophen , alcohol, smoking and caffeine. So when you are taking this medicine, it would be good to make sure you are raising your glutathione levels as well to help your liver to remove it from your body and prevent liver damage.

For a long term preventive approach for acetaminophen and liver damage, you need a dual strategy. Don't overload your liver with toxins, and then give your liver what it needs to cope with the chemicals and toxins that you are exposed to.

In conclusion, what is acetaminophen overdose? It is the leading cause of liver damage in the US, and is the result of taking more acetaminophen than the recommended safe dose. To prevent acetaminophen toxicity, please read the labels on all medications you take carefully. To protect your liver from acetaminophen overdose, do not exceed the safe dose, limit your drug and toxin exposure, and keep your glutathione levels high. This will prevent liver damage and keep your liver healthy. And if your liver is healthy, you are healthy!
Most of the punishments for possession or selling marijuana depends on the amount of the drug that's being held or sold.

Between two oz. and four ounces it then becomes a Class A Misdemeanor which is up to 1 year in the slammer. From four oz up to 1 pound and from 1 pound up to five pounds of marijuana is what is called a state jail felony.

From 50 to 2,000 pounds is considered a 2nd degree transgression which is punishable between 2 to twenty years with up to $10,000 fine.
The sale of marijuana works a bit differently. This is punishable with between 180 days and two years in jail and an increased fine of $10,000 fine.
Between five and 50 pounds becomes classified as a 3rd degree transgression with between two and 10 years of incarceration and the same amount of a fine. The fine then is raised to up to $100,000.
Eventually drug use turns to drug abuse and finally to drug addiction. Most people use the two terms interchangeably, but the truth is there is a difference between drug abuse and drug addiction.

Drug abuse is the use of illegal drugs or the inappropriate use of legal drugs. People who abuse drugs are using them to obtain a specific feeling - a "high" - that they can't get from other substances. Often drug abuse is recreational with the drugs being used to loosen a person up and make them feel like they fit in with the crowd.

Drug addiction, on the other hand, is the uncontrollable use of drugs and the inability to stop using drugs in spite of health or social consequences. People with a drug addiction are physically and emotionally unable to stop using drugs. Their bodies have become used to having the drug in the system, and stopping the drug use brings about often painful physical and psychological symptoms.

Drug addiction does begin with drug abuse when an individual makes a conscious choice to use drugs, but addiction is not just "a lot of drug use." Recent scientific research provides overwhelming evidence that not only do drugs interfere with normal brain functioning creating powerful feelings of pleasure, but they also have long-term effects on brain metabolism and activity.

At some point, changes occur in the brain that can turn drug abuse into addiction, a chronic, relapsing illness. Those addicted to drugs suffer from a compulsive drug craving and usage and cannot quit by themselves. Treatment is necessary to end this compulsive behavior.

Many people view drug abuse and addiction as strictly a social problem. Parents, teens, older adults, and other members of the community tend to characterize people who take drugs as morally weak or as having criminal tendencies. They believe that drug abusers and addicts should be able to stop taking drugs if they are willing to change their behavior. This just isn't true.

People from all walks of life abuse drugs and become addicted. We can start combating these problems if we educate ourselves and each other about drug abuse and drug addiction. It is an ever-growing epidemic that doesn't have to take hold of people or society. Drug abuse and drug addiction can be stopped, but only if we start with education.
These tests are equivalent to urine drug test in accuracy, process, quick results etc. This is an efficient form of drug testing and enables to employ the random drug testing programs. This is one of the popular drug test methods used to find drug abuse instantly.

OrAlert oral test detects the six most common abused drugs. This test detects the abnormal concentrations of different drugs at a time using oral fluids. Collection of specimen for this test is simple without any issues of adulteration or manipulation.

Why is the test conducted? OrAlert oral test detects the increased levels of drug concentrations in human oral fluid. This test is used to detect the presence of amphetamine, methamphetamine, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, phencyclidine and their metabolites in oral fluids by utilizing the monoclonal antibodies.

How to do the test: Allow the OrAlert oral fluid drug screen device to reach the room temperature before testing. Use the test as soon as possible after removing the test device and the cap from the sealed pouch. Insert the sponge end of the collector into the mouth between the tongue and upper portion the mouth. As the sponge softens slightly, the donor should press the sponge between tongue and teeth to ensure the complete saturation. Insert the collector in the mouth for three minutes. Then insert the collector into the test device by pushing it into the chamber and turning the collector clockwise. Wait for a minute, rotate the collection chamber anticlockwise and set the timer for nine minutes. Take the results after nine minutes.

Interpretation: For a positive result, when the drug concentration is above the detectable level, a colored line appears in the control region (C) and no line appears in the test region (Drug /T). For a negative result, two lines appear. One colored line in the control region(C) and another apparent colored line appears in the adjacent test region (Drug/T). Control lines fail to appear in an invalid result that can be caused by insufficient specimen volume or incorrect procedural techniques.

This test provides preliminary analytical test results. In order to obtain confirmed analytical results, more specific alternate chemical methods like Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and gas chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (GC/MS/MS) can be administered, particularly when preliminary results are positive.

OrAlert Oral Test is simple and fast that can be conducted by anyone. It is a donor friendly system, which is hassle-free to detect multiple drugs at on shot.
Although most people do not always think about the possibility of being addicted to a prescription pill, it has in fact been very common to many people today. This has been a growing problem to many, which is why people should be more aware of the existence of this addiction that may be happening among friends or family members.

In some cases, people who are addicted to a prescription pill have unknowingly become dependent to the drug. Once an individual becomes addicted to prescription pills, obvious changes will show on their physical appearance and behavior. As he takes more and more drugs, he will not be able to stop on his own. This will become even more obvious as he starts to withdraw from physical activities, friends and places that used to be a part of his everyday routine. He may even become distant to the family members, become more silent and moody.

There are teenagers and even adults who have sought for prescription drugs for the high feeling that it brings them. A prescription pill costs $10 up to $50 per pill, which can be a little costly for those who cannot afford them, especially teenagers. Several fatalities have occurred in the past years because of addiction and overdose for prescription drugs. Most of them have resulted to brain damage and other severe physiological disorders.

If you are addicted to a prescription pill or a loved one of yours is showing signs of addiction, you may start looking for Prescription Pill rehab centers for the proper professional help. You should know that physical and physiological conditions of an addict are at stake, which is why this problem should immediately be addressed. There are several Prescription Pill rehabs that can revive the lives of people who have been addicted to prescribed medicine.

The first step towards achieving the recovery for drug addiction is acknowledging the problem. Denial can hinder anyone to ultimately recover from an addiction. The next step is to undergo detoxification at a prescription detox center. This will eliminate all drug substances that will lead to harmful diseases when ignored. Chemicals that are brought by prescription drugs are very strong, which may lead to death.

It is very important that a prescription addict receives immediate help. This can be a very perilous road, which is why it should be stopped as early as possible. It is time to live a better life and stop prescription pill addiction.

This addiction is a serious medical condition that will need the help of prescription pill addiction treatment programs that will cure a person's addictive needs and cleanse his body from harmful chemicals. How do you deal with unexpected things that happen in your life such as loss of work, deaths in the family or fights with loved ones? For some people, the answer is temporarily found in drugs and/or alcohol. But is this always the right answer?

There are many who would speculate that drugs and alcohol is most often (if not always) the result of some sort of trauma or stress-related incident. The truth of the matter is that drugs and alcohol seldom solve anything. In fact, drug and alcohol abuse does more to break up families, and cause all sorts of problems on top of whatever stress you may be feeling. The next time you are feeling stressed out, try to get to the root of what is bothering you. Figure out possible solutions to your problem on your own. The same money that you would spend on alcohol or drugs, take it and use it towards seeing a psychologist or pscyhiatrist. These people are skilled in being able to help those who are struggling with internal issues. Additionally, it is important to remember not to isolate yourself. Do you have any friends that you can call on for help?

Often times, when we are struggling or stressed out- or if we have drug problems, it can often be difficult to reach out to others who are there to help us. Little do we know that there are plenty of people out there who care about us and want to see us do well. It takes a lot of courage and honesty to admit that you have a problem- especially when the admittance is to a close friend or a family member. We are often afraid that we will be judged or somehow rejected. Therefore, as a result, many people keep their problems to themselves. There are also those who struggle with denial. They don't want to (and haven't) admit to themselves that there is a serious problem going on. Therefore, why would they need the help if there's nothing wrong.

It is so incredibly important that we don't isolate ourselves from other people- especially those that we love. In a lot of cases, you need to stop and remind yourself that no matter how bad your situation is, there is ALWAYS someone out there who is worse off than you. This isn't meant to be a selfish thing, but rather, it is meant to teach you to appreciate all that you have and to always think of others. In fact, many therapists would suggest that those who are easily stressed get volunteer jobs because when you're volunteering to help someone else, you are too busy to worry about things. You will ultimately feel better about your overall situation if you can find other more creative ways to give back to others who are worse off than you. This isn't to say that your problems aren't important. You still need to deal with your problems without the use of drugs and alcohol. It's just that by helping others, you will help yourself.
However, there are a lot of ways to fight such negativity that connotes the actual process of drug detoxification. The first step in order for one to shy away from the drugs that are commonly being abused is to realize that there is indeed a big problem. As an old saying goes, "you cannot simply change something that one doesn't acknowledge", if this is your case then how can you change your drug problem if you do not admit to having one? But then again, if one has admitted to having a drug problem (may it be legal or illegal), then it is easy for them to be treated and undergo a complete body detoxification. This will then rid their system of all drugs that they've induced.

Having a medical plan is the first step in complete body detoxification. A physician who specializes in therapy for drug abuse and rehabilitation is the type of a doctor that one must consult with. An individual may consult one if he or she is with no other option but to directly go to one. A medical detoxification does involve one's withdrawal from drug use and abuse.

We all know that withdrawal process is not and never that easy. However, with the help of medical professionals this process can be easily dealt with and that the actual process will also be easier with proper guidance. A part of said withdrawal or detoxification involves spending several nights in a hospital or any medical facility with the patient being hindered to access any drugs and be trained to be without one. For patients, this process can be physically and emotionally painful. But with qualified doctors and nurses to guide and help the patient, the success of the withdrawal or detoxification process is achievable.

The second big step in the process of detoxification is to map out future plans of the patient. In this process, it is necessary to be able to communicate with your chosen medical professional whom you've chosen to help you. A nutritionist is also one of those professionals that you will be speaking or consulting with. Said nutritionist can help those who have actually withdrawn from drug use and they can easily help them get back on the right track by eating healthy special diets that are specifically designed for the patients needs.

The final step of detoxification process would be, is the actual counseling. People who abused drug use, is in need of counseling, after they have successfully combated their drug problems. With new perspective set out for them, they tend to look at life excitingly. However, most of the time, there are actually little reason or hope for some, since drugs are no longer the focus of their new life and system. With the help of a professional, they can make them understand that life without drug abuse is better. There are some cases where the attending psychologist may refer a patient to halfway house, as this is seen as a big help to some patient while they are going through counseling. Counseling may be seen as a long and unending process, but this is quite important in completing total drug detoxification.

The following are highly recommended to those who want to rid themselves with their problem with drug abuse, in order for them to live a happier and healthier life. It is crucial from one to turn his/her back on his/her drug abuse; detoxification will indeed place them on the right path.
There are treatments that address a specific form of addiction, either physically or psychologically. Physical addiction or dependence is usually treated by using different kinds of medications. Popular ones include the use of methadone and buprenorphine, which is done as substitutes for illicit opioid drugs such as heroin, oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine, oxymorphone, fentanyl or other opioids. Psychological addiction or dependence, however, makes use of therapy or group therapy sessions where the therapist accurately pinpoints the main cause of addiction and helps the patient to overcome their addiction.

According to several adolescent drug treatment centers, both therapy and the use of medication are sometimes combined to produce a more successful treatment for drug addiction. This is usually practiced when a patient undergoes drug detoxification or detox.

Drug Detox

Drug detoxifcation is a collection of different interventions directed at controlling acute drug intoxication and drug withdrawal. Detoxification programs do not necessarily treat the other implications of drug addiction: namely, psychological aspects of addiction, social factors, and the often complex behavioral issues that are intermingled with addiction. Usually, drug detoxification makes use of drugs. One in particular is naltrexone. Naltrexone, although a medication used for alcoholism, is now applied for drug detox, commonly used in rapid detoxification.

The last step of drug detox process usually is to ready the patient for the actual recovery process. According to several adolescent drug treatment centers, drug detoxification only deals with the physical dependency and addiction to drugs. It does not address the psychological aspects of drug addiction. This stage entails obtaining agreement from the patient to complete the process by enrolling in a drug rehabilitation program. One in particular is the use of cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, is a psychotherapeutic approach that aims to influence dysfunctional emotions, behaviors and cognitions through a goal-oriented, systematic procedure. There is empirical evidence that CBT is effective for the treatment of a variety of problems, including mood, anxiety, personality, eating, psychotic disorders, particularly with substance abuse. According to multiple adolescent drug treatment centers, treatment is often brief, and time-limited. CBT is used in individual therapy as well as group settings, and the techniques are often adapted for self-help applications. Some CBT therapies are more orientated towards predominantly cognitive interventions, while others are more behaviorally oriented.

About the Author
Donna Sparks is a Professor and a Consultant Physician. This is because of its effects, which is similar to alcohol, they were useful as substitutes in alcohol detoxification to avoid alcoholism withdrawal. However, due to their high potential to cause overdose, they were replaced by benzodiazepines which are significantly less dangerous in overdose. However, aside from overdose, barbiturates are also known to cause tolerance that usually leads to its addiction. Barbiturate addiction

Tolerance to barbiturates usually is the result of repeated use, particularly in the course of an alcohol detoxification wherein the usual substance intake have beenthey induce both physical dependence and psychological dependence. According to adolescent drug rehab therapists, psychological addiction to barbiturates can develop more quickly than physical dependence. The GABA receptor, one of barbiturates' main sites of action, is thought to play a pivotal role in the development of tolerance to and dependence on barbiturates, as well as the euphoric "high" that results from their abuse. The mechanism by which barbiturate tolerance develops is believed to be different than that of ethanol or benzodiazepines, even though these drugs have been shown to exhibit cross-tolerance with each other. diminished because of increased tolerance. The difference of barbiturates from other drugs is that

Physical dependence, on the other hand, is much easier to manage. According to adolescent drug rehab therapists, the management of a physical dependence on barbiturates is stabalisation on the long-acting barbiturate phenobarbitol followed by a gradual titration down of dose. The slowly eliminated phenobarbitol lessens the severity of the withdrawal syndrome and reduces the chances of serious barbiturate withdrawal effects such as seizures. Antipsychotics are not recommended for barbiturate withdrawal (or other CNS depressant withdrawal states) especially clozapine, olanzapine or low potency phenothiazines eg chlorpromazine as they lower the seizure threshold and can worsen withdrawal effects; if used extreme caution is required.

Although barbiturates have been largely replaced by benzodiazepines because of their low potency to cause harm, these drugs are still known to cause quite a problem, particularly with tolerance and addiction.

Benzodiazepine addiction

Although much safer than barbiturates, long-term use of benzodiazepines may lead to adverse psychological and physical effects, and because benzodiazepines are prone to cause tolerance, physical dependence, and, upon cessation of use, a withdrawal syndrome. Withdrawal from benzodiazepines generally leads to improved physical and mental health.

The main problem of the chronic use of benzodiazepines is the development of tolerance and dependence, which is similar to that of barbiturates. According to adolescent drug rehab therapists, tolerance manifests itself as diminished pharmacological effect and develops relatively quickly to the sedative, hypnotic, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant actions of benzodiazepines.

Discontinuation of benzodiazepines or abrupt reduction of the dose, even after a relatively short course of treatment (three to four weeks), may result in two groups of symptoms, which are rebound and withdrawal. Rebound symptoms are the return of the symptoms for which the patient was treated but worse than before. Withdrawal symptoms are the new symptoms that occur when the benzodiazepine is stopped. These are the main signs of physical dependence.

About the Author
Donna Sparks is a Professor and a Consultant Physician. A recent NIDA survey stated that, approximately one in six Americans (15% in 2007), by the age of 30 tried cocaine. Cocaine directly affects brain and causes many health problems like heart attack, respiratory failure, strokes, and seizures. In some rare cases, sudden death can occur on the first use of cocaine.

Cocaine drug tests help people to examine their friends or family members and help them to stay away from abuse. The abuse can be detected by using urine, hair, or saliva drug testing methods. Cocaine can be detected for 3 days in urine, 90 days through hair and up to 2 to 3 days in saliva.

Urine Drug Testing:
The most common test to detect cocaine is urine test. Urine tests that detect cocaine are inexpensive and affordable. These tests can be done at home and they are intrusive in nature. Cocaine content can be detected for up to 3 days using urine tests and the recommended cut off level by SAMHSA is 150 ng/mL for initial test and 100 ng/mL for confirmation test.

Hair Drug Testing:
Hair drug tests to trace cocaine are highly reliable. Cocaine is usually traceable via hair drug screening for up to 90 days. Hair tests will work with any hair on the body, including facial hair and body hair. It describes the co-existence of mental disorder and addiction problems. The addiction may be because of alcohol or substance abuse and it can be anything. Experts use the term Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) to treat such kinds of disorders. It is important to find out the root cause for both the disorders. The reasons might be masking the other possible reasons for the disorders but an expert should be in a position to find out all the root causes and decide with the treatment procedures. The professionals at the dual diagnosis center must have good experience in handling such cases and demand great patience to treat them.

Some of the major dual diagnosis examples are the ones which include a combination of major depression with cocaine addiction, alcohol and other substance over usage. Mental depression is the chemical imbalance in the brain. It must be treated properly and swiftly. It is also possible for some patients to have more than 2 disorders. The same kinds of principles that are employed in dual diagnosis are allowed in treating multiple disorders. A Good dual diagnosis program must identify the severity of each disorder and their root cause. Clear identification of these root causes will be very much helpful in treating them. The variability can be controlled to a great extent by the experts.

It is estimated that about one third of the patients who are affected with psychiatric disorder has high probability to suffer from drug abuse. The amount is almost double in the cases where people affected with alcohol addiction and have more probability to be affected with mental disorders. Dual diagnosis centers have trained professionals who can take care of the patients with their scientific treatment approach. The treatments must be appropriate and a faulty step in the treatment may even worse the impact. Patients may never be able to recover from the illness again. It has to be done with lots of care. Relapse prevention must be designed for patients with dual diagnosis. It is important to prevent them from entering the trap once again.

There are certain dual diagnosis treatment centers which organize a re-union or an alumni meeting every month in the rehabilitation center. It is an important activity in monitoring the patients and to record their improvement. The centers hold the responsibility to take care of their patients and the alumni meetings will enable the existing patients to get in touch with their counterparts and in sharing the success stories. Group co-ordination might be a great factor and helps in speedy recovery. Dual diagnosis program is carefully designed to cope up with all sorts of problems that are faced during the treatment. The programs must have a proper fore-vision and should emphasize on the health benefits of the patients.

About the Author
If you want to know more about Dual Diagnosis Residential Treatment Program then feel free to visit Dual Diagnosis Centers.
