Dana's August Design Team Reveal!

For August, Dana worked with the new Prima Reflections Collection which is packed with gorgeous colors and beautiful designs. One thing I love about this collection are the detailed designs on 1 side of the paper and a simple subtle pattern on the opposite site. So if you are up for a little fussy cutting...or maybe not...these papers work with whatever mood you are in. At first glance the colors of this line remind me of fall, but by looking at Dana's layouts you can see this collection is extremely versatile and can be used for various occasions.

Must Have Monday: Vintage Trinkets by Prima

Whether it's your favorite pair of blue jeans or your tube of shimmery lip gloss everyone has a "must have" item. Scrapbooking is no different. Every Monday the {SAS}sy Design Team will show you our must have item of the moment. It may be new, it could be old, but one things for sure it's a MUST HAVE and right now we can't LIVE without it!

Prima's Vintage Trinkets are great for making one-of-a-kind jewelry and altered art items, but they can also be used creatively on a scrapbook layout. The trinkets can easily be attached to a chain with some jump rings or attached to a piece of ribbon or twine. Shown below are a couple of detailed photos of how I used some of these beautiful trinkets.

I used Trinkets from the following packages on my layout: Id: 549749, Id: 930004 and Id: 930001. The number of Vintage Trinkets in each package varies. The Vintage Trinkets shown in the first product photo (Id: 549749) contain 4 Trinkets in each package, one of each shown in the photo. The Vintage Trinkets shown in the second product photo (Id: 930004) contain 11 Trinkets in each package, two each of the smaller Trinkets and one of the larger lock. The Vintage Trinkets shown in the third product photo (Id: 930001) contain 10 Trinkets in each package, two of each shown in the photo.

These fabric stickers are a great touch to any page. With an added bonus inside the package are two yellow music note accent pages that can be used on a layout. I really love the textures and bright colors that make the page pop. Please check out these close ups.

Color is everywhere, especially when you are scrapbooking. Our Color Concoctions Challenge will help you step outside the box and scrap with colors you may, or may not have thought about combining. Sometimes the most unique color combinations make the best layouts!

Simply use the colors provided to create a layout where the colors provided are your primary colors. You are welcome to add additional colors but they should be minimal and not the main colors of your work.

Workshop Wednesday: Pretty Packaging - Altered Petaloo Dress Form

We love learning new things so join us for Workshop Wednesdays where we’ll show you tips, techniques or tutorials to help you grow as scrapbookers. Our creative Design Team will teach you something fun, exciting or maybe it’s just a refresher for you. Regardless, make sure and tune in every other Wednesday to see what’s on the curriculum for the day.

The new Petaloo Trims and Garlands are beautiful and so is the packaging! I'm always looking for new ways to incorporate product packing into my designs. I immediately thought of an altered dress form when I saw the packaging from the Petaloo Pink Floral Fabric Garland. With a couple of embellishments and a few simple cuts and punches I created a pretty altered dress form to use as an embellishment on one of my layouts.

Supplies:

Dress Shaped Packaging from a Petaloo Garland or Trim

Patterned Paper of Your Choice

Embellishments of Your Choice

Craft Knife or Scissors

Adhesive

Step 1. Gather your supplies. I chose one piece of patterned paper and stickers, lace trim, fussy cut butterflies and a flower.

Step 2. Using a kraft knife or scissors carefully cut along the inside of the brown dress form outline. I was careful to avoid cutting the glitter necklace and ribbon. I wanted to use the ribbon as an embellishment, so I removed it and set it aside for the next step.

Step 3. Trim the excess bottom of the packaging, leaving enough of an edge to use a decorative punch to cut a pattern along the bottom of the dress.

Step 4. Use adhesive to attach the packaging on top of a piece of patterned paper of your choice. Once dry, trim the excess paper. The design possibilities after this point are infinite. The following steps explain how I embellished my dress form.

Step 5. Tear the petals from a flower and glue them to your dress.

Step 6. Replace the pink ribbon that was removed in Step 2 and add trim of your choice to the bottom of the dress.

Step 7. Embellish your dress with stickers and fussy cut butterflies.

Step 8. Use your finished dress form on a project!

You know you’re a scrapbooker when you take everyday things and draw inspiration from them to create a layout. For this challenge, we will be using everyday items like magazine ads, clothing, food packaging or word prompts as our source of inspiration.

The challenge this week is to use the vintage patriotic greeting shown below as inspiration for your layout. You are free to adapt it to any size you prefer – just have fun with it! Scrap Your Stash Challenge

There is one thing scrapbookers have in common...our love for buying all things scrappy. But what do you do with all that stash? It seems a common tune we sing around here about papers we never touch and embellishment packs never opened. Well what do you say we do something about it? This challenge is all about Scrapping your Stash and challenging you to use all that stash you have piled up! Be it to finally say you have used it or to give you an excuse to buy more I want to see those stashes emptied!

This challenge is simple, I will give you a list of supplies in which you must include in your layout. While you are not required to only use your older stash I challenge you to do so, and at times it may be a requirement to only use old stash and I will specify that. Each item on the list must be included and visible to earn credit.

Dana's July Design Team Reveal

I just love pulling supplies for our design team to work with when everything fits together just like a puzzle. This was certainly the case with the supplies Dana worked with this month. I started out with the new Little Yellow Bicycle Elizabeth Park collection and was thrilled when I realized it paired wonderfully with the new Webster's Pages Trendsetter collection. At first glance both collections seem like they are on opposite ends of the spectrum...but they work so well together!

Dana was able to create some amazing layouts (as usual) and I love how despite the girly colors she was able to pull from the masculine tones to create some pages of her husband. "Gray is the new black" and it works wonderfully with both collections. So please enjoy Dana's July Design team debut, I hope you are as inspired by her work as I am:
