The girls' team took home bronze winning most of their games (losing only to Goodsoil in the first game). The boys also played very well and also won bronze. Both teams showed great enthusiasm, team spirit and sportsmanship making their school proud! Thanks to all the parents who came out to help coach.

Wednesday was our 'Walk to Breakfast' in which students and staff started the day with a short walk followed by a healthy hot breakfast served at the school. A bake sale was held at lunch on Thursday to help raise money for the Horn of Africa. Currently, the Canadian government is matching contributions dollar for dollar. The same evening was our annual Meet the Staff night and this year, SCC contributed with a free community BBQ, money hunt and dunk tank. We ended off the week with our annual Terry Fox Walk. This year marked our 20th year of participation. With the total from the previous 19 years coming in over $98000, it is highly expected that we will break the $100000 mark this year.

A big thank you to everyone who helped organize and run the events of this week. Many people stepped forward to help make this week the success that it was!
Since the addition of another portable last year, smaller projects have included upgrading the washrooms outside the gym, and tiling the front entrance. Currently, work is being done to upgrade the high school washrooms and on a larger scale, remodel the old workout room. New plans for this room are to make it a multi-purpose room. It will be outfitted with some computer stations, a comfortable lounging area, reference material for post secondary schools, tables and a video conferencing system. This will be an ideal location for small meetings, students to write a missed exam, small group work, a place for various division professionals to meet with students or staff or as a place to meet with the wellness coordinator. Construction is well underway. The picture shows one interpretation of the project in completion.

Tell Us Your Story

For everyone’s future.
Invest in teachers.

Every day, inside thousands of classrooms and gymnasiums, on countless practice fields and stages, before every school bell rings until long after class is dismissed, teachers are making futures brighter for our families, our communities and our province – one student at a time. As Saskatchewan grows, let’s make sure these everyday heroes have the support they need. Investing in teachers is vital and so is your voice.

Has a teacher inspired you or your child? Why do teachers matter to you? Do you have a teacher hero? Tell us your story.

Kevin Brooks

This afternoon, students from grade 6 to 12 had the opportunity to listen to a dynamic, energetic speaker - Kevin Brooks. Kevin is a car crash survivor who now tours across the country speaking to youth about choices, consequences, drinking and driving, suicide, dealing with pain, both physical and emotional, and forgiveness. What is unique about Kevin is that he discusses these topics not from a preachy way but by telling his own heart-wrenching story. It was not all depressing as he often threw in his own brand of humour around catheters and wheeling in circles. Thank you to SGI and Sasktel for sponsoring Kevin's visit. Judging from the attention and respect from the students, I'm sure it's a presentation that will leave an impression on many. Learn more about Kevin and his story on his website. Our school was the first large group to visit the newly constructed and very roomy chalet. Slightly cooler temperatures did not discourage anyone and the day went smoothly without any serious injuries. It was great to witness students encouraging first timers on a ski hill or just first time on a snowboard. Thank you also to all the parent volunteers who came out to help with gearing up students in the chalet, picking up students after spills on the hill, handing out lunch and anything else. Although there has been a buzz of activity around the school already, staff do not officially start until August 25. This is a staff only day. Students return for morning classes only on THURSDAY, AUGUST 26. Full days begin on Friday. Supply lists for students can be found on our Documents & Forms page.

Behind the scenes though, work is still going on. Retreats and workshops happen throughout July and August, AFL test scoring takes place in Saskatoon early in July and even students in SRC return early (August 23) to plan for the fall. Parents will also be busy in August as they obtain supplies for their children. Lists are available at www.nwsd.ca/schools/pcs/docs.php.

Staff officially return to work on Wednesday, August 25 although many will be in before that to prepare their classrooms and plans for the year. Thursday, August 26 is the first student day and there will be an 11:40 dismissal. You can keep posted of events throughout the year at www.nwsd.ca/schools/pcs/events.php. Awards Night has now passed with a great turn out and many certificates, medals and trophies awarded. The evening began (to the relief of the organizing committee) with medals arriving in Pierceland just shortly before the ceremony and it ended with the hope of more sponsorship to increase the number of trophies to include areas such as Health, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Creative Writing and Technology to name a few. The upcoming two weeks are filled with year-end field trips, exams and our final Pep Rally on Monday, June 14.

To ease stress that students may be facing, it is important to keep good routines established such as regular bedtimes and meals. Starting the day with a healthy breakfast is always important. Although summer holidays are just around the corner, there is still much work to be finished before then. It's important that students stayed focused throughout these final weeks. A final exam schedule is available on the left sidebar. Supply lists will be posted as soon as they come available under "Parents - Documents & Forms".

PCS excels at Districts

Last Wednesday and Thursday, track students, along with parents and coaches traveled to Meadow Lake to compete at the second highest level of track competition.
