In today’s fast-paced society, 6 or 7 hours of sleep may sound pretty good. In reality, it’s a recipe for chronic sleep deprivation.

While sleep requirements vary slightly from person to person, most healthy adults need between 7.5 to 9 hours of sleep per night to function at their best. Children and teens need even more (see box at right). And despite the notion that our sleep needs decrease with age, older people still need at least 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep. Since older adults often have trouble sleeping this long at night, daytime naps can help fill in the gap.

Nivio, a cloud service provider, has launched a new service that will allow users to access their Windows based PCs through tablets and smartphones. The new service, named nDesktop, will be available for Android phones and tablets running OS version 2.3 and above, iPhone 4 and above, and iPads. It can also be accessed through HTML-5 compatible browsers.

"The nDesktop allows users to switch on and access a full Windows desktop from all their devices in less than 30 seconds," Nivio said in a press release.

Besides, Nivio has announced two new services. With the new Nivio nDrive, users can create a document using their laptop, save it, then edit it with their iPad at home or work offline and synch the files later. nDrive lets you share files, pictures and other docs with friends and coworkers.

The state government is offering a subsidy of Rs 1,000 for students to facilitate e-learning.

A proposal has already been sent to the Human Resources Development (HRD) Ministry, the State Commissioner of Technical Education, S Balasubramanyam said.

S Balasubramanyam said, “The UMHRD has asked the state to submit details about the number of Aakash tablets initially required. We have proposed to provide the tablets to students in state universities, engineering and polytechnic colleges initially at a subsidised price of Rs 1,500. We plan to procure 10,000 tablets in the beginning.”

The second phase of the scheme will see students of private colleges.

The government has also plans of providing the tablets in college and university libraries, which will be available for rent for students who cannot afford them.

S. Balasubramanyam said it would take at least another 3-4 months to procure the 10,000 Aakash tablets from the Union HRD ministry as the state government was waiting for the next generation of Aakash, which is expected to be released in April.

The tablet has been designed especially for students with an aim to bridge the digital divide between the rich and the poor. Over the next five years, the Centre plans to provide the tablets to 20 crore students.

The Union HRD Ministry is monitoring implementation of the Aakash project.

Reports have been doing rounds that the existing Android 2.2 version operating system that runs on Aakash has a series of faults. Also, there is a problem with the battery back-up of the tablet. Owing to the complaints and the faults in the devices, the manufacturers of the tablet — DataWind — decided to launch an improved version of Aakash with a 766 MHz processor and a longer battery life.

China ranks 116th in the Index produced by researchers at Yale and Columbia Universities in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, reflecting the strain rapid economic growth imposes on the environment in emerging economies.

Brazil ranks 30th, however, suggesting that a concerted focus on sustainability as a policy priority will pay dividends - and that the level and pace of development is just one of many factors affecting environmental performance, according to the index released in Davos.

"India's low rank on the 2012 Environmental Performance Index should be a wake-up call to Indian political leaders at all levels," said Daniel Esty, Director of the Yale Centre for Environmental Law and Policy and one of the lead authors of the report.

"India faces significant pollution control and natural resource management challenges and its lagging results suggest the need for redoubled policy efforts across the board," he said.

The United States places 49th in the 2012 EPI significantly behind other industrialised nations, including France (6th), the United Kingdom (9th), Germany (11th), and Japan (23rd).

In addition, the US places 77th in the Trend EPI rankings, a Pilot Index that shows which countries are improving and by how much on an issue-by-issue basis over the period 2000-2010, suggesting that little progress has been made on environmental challenges over the last ten years, a Yale release said.

Latvia, Norway, Luxembourg, and Costa Rica round out the top five positions in the 2012 EPI, which ranks 132 countries based on 22 indicators across ten major policy categories including air and water pollution, climate change, biodiversity, and forest management.

Occupying the bottom five positions in the EPI ranking are South Africa, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Iraq - all countries grappling with deteriorating environmental circumstances in the context of significant economic development pressures and other challenges.
According to reports by Times of India, auto rickshaws in Delhi will be fitted with GPS, beginning in March, this year. The transport department has asked DIMTS, which is the agency in-charge of the project to list out vendors that will supply GPS devices to auto rickshaws. This process of empanelling vendors to provide the GPS to the three-wheeled scooter rickshaws (TSRs) may take about a month. Once this is done, the government will issue a notice for installation of GPS in auto rickshaws.

"We will have to issue a notice giving details of the specifications vendors need to meet. Their applications would then be evaluated by us and the entire process is likely to take 40 days. Auto-rickshaw owners can then get the GPS fitted from these authorized vendors," said a DIMTS official.

While DIMTS has been asked to begin work on the GPS-enabled meters, the government authorities will be creating a comprehensive policy for auto rickshaws, which will add 45,000 new autos as a part of a court directive. Auto rickshaw drivers are known to tweak the meters and overcharge commuters, the meters fitted with GPS and printer in the new autos will inform the commuter about the route taken and also provide a receipt for the fare. Government sources revealed that auto rickshaw owners will be given time to install the device supposedly about six months, so that all the autos will be fitted with GPS.

Reportedly, the new 45,000 three-wheeled scooter rickshaws along with the already existing new 45,000 will have to equip a GPS device. The end of last year Loop Mobile had also teamed up with Rickshawale.com to offer a convenient and safe service 24x7. Why, you ask? That's because the website isn't like any other website in the world. You need to prove yourself to be a die-hard far of Rajni and disconnect your Internet to earn the right to browse the website. Yes, you need to be offline to be able to access the portal.

How could that be possible? Well, the website is nothing but a Flash file that needs an initial Internet connection to get download on the computer (the browser's temporary folder, to be precise). Once the Flash file is downloaded, technically, the whole website is now on your computer's hard drive itself.

Now, the next challenge is to be able to investigate whether you are connected to the Internet or not. This is achieved by constantly pinging a certain IP address on the Internet. In case the website manages to get a reply, that confirms the presence of the Internet connection and swiftly blocks the access to the website until the connection is severed again.

So, how does it work, again? When you visit the website at first, the website itself gets downloaded onto the hard drive. However, access to the website is blocked as long as the computer is connected to the Internet. And that connection can be confirmed by constantly pinging an IP address on the Internet. No reply means no connection.

I hope that solves the mystery behind the mojo of AllAboutRajni.com.

Today, the majority of smartphones include wireless technologies like 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as standard, offering seamless connectivity. Now that these technologies are commonplace, manufactures are looking towards more innovative options to attract buyers. New wireless technologies will trump existing ones by providing faster speeds, easier connectivity and seamless communication among devices. Here is a quick overview of what the future of wireless technologies looks like.

DLNA
DLNA (DIGITAL Living Network Alliance) is an innovation that is sure to catch the attention of media enthusiasts. It is a communication technology that allows devices to share content over an existing wired/wireless network. DLNA-enabled devices range from smartphones, tablets, televisions, gaming consoles, media players and cameras. Not only does it allows live streaming and easy sharing of music, video, and photos; it even supports printing over the network. Once connected to the network, DLNA-enabled devices detect each other easily and allow for seamless sharing with no setup required.

Many smartphones like Nokia N8, Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Sensation and Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S come with DLNA integrated. Media players like Western Digital's TV Live Hub have it too. It can be enabled on most tablets by installing apps.

Wi-Fi Direct
TO CONNECT two devices wirelessly, you would typically require a Wi-Fi setup in which a router broadcasts a network and your devices - be it a PC, phone, laptop, netbook, or TV - all connect to the router. The router in turn, acts as starting point, enabling connected devices to communicate with each other. Opposed to this conventional way, with Wi-Fi Direct, compatible devices can connect directly by generating their own wireless network. While most devices across gadget categories (TV, Printers, etc.) have Wi-Fi connectivity in-built as an option, moving forward, Wi-Fi Direct will be the easiest way to share data. Devices like Samsung's Galaxy S/ SII and LG Optimus Black P970 and even printers that can work with Wi-Fi Direct are available in the market.

NFC or Near Field communications
NFC, OR Near Field communications is a technology that uses magnetic fields to connect devices. It is a short range wireless technology that can work up till a few centimetres. It is very fast and takes just a second to connect to a NFC-ready device when within range. It can be used for financial transactions, sharing content, streaming multimedia, initiating multiplayer gaming, pairing Bluetooth and to read various NFC tags for identification, coupons, advertisements and so on. Google’s recently launched 'Wallet' is a great example that highlights the growth of mobile payments via NFC. Devices such as Samsung's Nexus S, most of the Blackberry OS7 range and new Nokia Symbian range have NFC integrated.

4G
ALTHOUGH 3G is still far from seeing mass adoption, there are already talks of 4G arriving in India next year. LTE, WiMax and HSPA+ are the three technologies that come the aegis of 4G because of their ability to transfer fast data. What matters the most here is that 2G and 3G work for both voice and data while 4G works only for data transfer. The noticeable improvement that 4G would offer over 3G is better coverage area and higher browsing speeds of up to 100mbps (depending upon the device used). Since it works using a wider frequency range of 2 - 8Ghz, data transfer speeds are not that affected by number of users. For 4G a whole set of new devices across categories will be required to be launched in India as there is no device in the market that can actually utilize 4G connectivity.

Wi-Fi 802.11ac
WI-FI IS one of the best wireless technologies for data transfer. Currently in its 4th generation, Wi-Fi is differentiated on the basis of standards – 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n - with 802.11n being the latest, capable of speeds of up to 600 Mbps and offering extended range. It works using the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channel. Now, Wi-Fi will step into its 5th generation with the 802.11ac standard. The new standard dictates a theoretical maximum transfer speed of up to 3.6 Gbps and uses the 5Ghz channel for data transfers. It will improve upon signal range, will support better connectivity with multiple devices and consume less power - so important for the battery powered smartphones and laptops of tomorrow. This standard will also make it easier to stream full HD videos and transfer large amounts of data between devices wirelessly. Devices featuring this new standard of Wi-Fi are expected to be demonstrated/launched at the upcoming CES 2012 expo by Broadcom and various other device manufacturers.

Bluetooth 4.0
BLUETOOTH V2.1 has been the minimum available across devices until last year. However, the demand for faster transfer speeds led to the evolution of Bluetooth v3.0 which has been integrated into most new smartphones now. As a technology, Bluetooth has evolved rapidly - so now, some high-end smartphones also have Bluetooth v4.0, which adds a new protocol called ‘Low energy’. This consumes a fraction of the power consumed by conventional Bluetooth devices and provides faster transfer speeds too. As opposed to a standard 50 foot range (clear line of sight), it offers a range of 200 feet. Devices such as Apple's iPhone4S and Motorola's Droid Razr are the latest phones to come with Bluetooth v4.0.
The Aakash 2 tablet will three times faster than Aakash 1 and will have 50% more battery life. The latest version will have to pass a new quality protocol

prepared on basis of inputs received from around 600 students of IITs and engineering colleges.

“All issues have been resolved. We will receive 70,000 improved Aakash tablets from Datawind (the company supplying the tablets) by January-end,” said HRD minister Kapil Sibal, after reports of the ministry planning to put its pact with Datawind on hold.
Ministry officials said Datawind may not get order in future as it had violated the contract condition of providing the tablets first to the government before selling it in open market.

The HRD ministry had asked Datawind of Montreal-based Suneet S Tuli to supply one lakh Aakash tablets for around $50 each. In the initial lot, 600 tablets were given to students for testing.

IIT, Rajasthan, which had prepared the Aakash prototype cited several deficiencies in the tablet including short battery life, processor unable to handle multiple operations at a time and poor picture quality.

Datawind has already supplied 30,000 tablets by the time the report by the IIT came. The ministry held back the order and asked the firm to fix the deficiencies. Ministry sources said the company was initially reluctant to upgrade the tablet without increasing the cost. However, it agreed when ministry threatened to cancel the order.

Tuli was not available for comments. A company spokesperson said the remaining 70,000 tablets would be supplied as per the pact. “Not only Aakash from Datawind but all future tablets will have minimum Aakash 2 specifications,” said NK Sinha, additional secretary, HRD ministry.

The eMO (Electric MObility) has been engineered and developed by more than 300 engineers from the Tata Technologies centers based in Pune, Detroit, UK and Germany.

Tata Technologies was selected by Michelin to display its electric Mobility (eMO) engineering study EV as part of the prestigious Michelin Challenge Design display atthe 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, beginning January 9.

“The eMO project symbolizes the coming of age of Indian automotive engineering,” said Warren Harris, Tata Technologies President and Global COO. “It is a tangible example of the capability of Tata Technologies to engineer a full vehicle – a first for any India-based engineering services company.” Harris noted that the unique strength of Tata Technologies is the organization’s global reach. “Because we are India-based, Tata Technologies is intimately familiar with developing markets.

Additionally, our experience and presence in Europe and North America means we also have an understanding of developed markets; a combination that provides a competitive advantage to our clients,” he said.Tata Technologies’ Vehicle Programs & Development (VPD) Group, with more than 300 engineers operating from its four automotive engineering centers of excellence worldwide– Pune (India), Detroit, Coventry (UK), and Stuttgart (Germany) – had the responsibility of developing eMO.

Kevin Fisher, VPD President, explained the beginning of the eMO program. “In mid-2010, in anticipation of the April 2011 launch of VPD, we researched numerous concepts for an internal engineering study that would highlight both the Tata Technologies dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainability, and showcase our global experience, knowledge,capacity and innovation.”

The Tata Technologies VPD Group used its unique multidimensional approach to vehicle engineering and development on eMO that leverages the company’s intimate understanding of frugal engineering principles and its unique understanding of the demands of both developed and developing markets; utilizing its Global Delivery Model and proprietary Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) platforms to develop products faster and more cost effectively.

“As we have previously stated, this next decade will see an ever-increasing demand for more efficient and accelerated product development that also will need to incorporate more new technology than the auto industry has seen in 30 years,” Fisher said. “We are positioned to set the pace in automotive product development and technological innovation.”

The eMO architecture emphasizes “right size” personal urban transportation by minimizing its exterior footprint and maximizing interior space; including seating for four adults. Based upon research of city/urban usage, eMO has the flexibility – with rear seats articulated – to do double-duty as a personal cargo carrier, without the mass and cost of a dedicated trunk.

As a ground-up EV study, eMO also incorporates design advantages over an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle like smoother aerodynamic surfaces and shorter overhangs.

With sustainability in mind, eMO benefits from a low carbon footprint and a recyclability strategy. To reduce the overall carbon footprint of the manufacturing, assembly and other associated processes, Tata Technologies eliminated the traditional body shop and paint process, and utilizes many green product materials in eMO.

The 2012 Michelin Challenge Design Theme, “City 2046: Art, Life and Ingenuity – Transforming Personal Mobility,” challenged participants to design a personal, ground-based vehicle that can transport between two and 10 people, meeting the anticipated needs of select cities in 2046, when more options for public and private transport will be offered. Michelin challenged entrants to create a vehicle that can inspire, as well as transport.

Design winners were invited to be an exhibitor in the Michelin Challenge Design at the 2012 NAIAS beginning January 9 and continuing through the public run of the show. “We are delighted to showcase our eMO concept alongside these innovative ideas,” said Fisher.
but after a deep research i found away that you can use the flex library in flash itself and connect to your web service as you can do by the end of this tutorial .

first of all you need to link to the flex webservices library from flash cs5 where you can find it in the below link :

C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4\sdks\4.1.0\frameworks\libs

you can download the library by follow the link in the end of this tutorial.

in this tuorial i will show you how you can create web service solution using .net 2008, so from the start page go and select create new project --> select asp.net wev service application.

then in the service1.asmx we will create a simple function that return a string value we need to read in flash cs5.

[WebMethod]
public string GetName()
{
return "Abed Allateef Qaisi";
}

then when you run your application you can find the link in the address bar as:
http://localhost:55166/Service1.asmx

now all we need is to call our web service function and trace the output .

in your flash document you need first to import web services namespaces :

import mx.rpc.soap.*;
import mx.rpc.events.*;
import mx.rpc.AbstractOperation;

then when you need to call the web service you need to initialize the object then load the WSDL call, after the event Load is trigger then you can call any method from this web service :

var uNameWebService:WebService;
var serviceOperation:AbstractOperation;
CallService_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, InitWebService);
function InitWebService(event:MouseEvent):void
{
Result_txt.text = "INIT"
uNameWebService = new WebService();
uNameWebService.loadWSDL("http://localhost:55166/Service1.asmx?WSDL");
uNameWebService.addEventListener(LoadEvent.LOAD, BuildServiceRequest);
}
function BuildServiceRequest(evt:LoadEvent)
{
Result_txt.text = "START"
serviceOperation = uNameWebService.getOperation("GetName");
serviceOperation.addEventListener(FaultEvent.FAULT, DisplayError);
serviceOperation.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, DisplayResult);
serviceOperation.send();
}
function DisplayError(evt:FaultEvent)
{
trace("error");
}
function DisplayResult(evt:ResultEvent)
{
var UserName:String = evt.result as String;
Result_txt.text = UserName;

Schmidt outlined his vision for Android, which Google provides to hardware manufacturers for free, on a panel hosted by online technology news site CNET at the International Consumer Electronics Show ( CES), which opened on Tuesday.

Besides smartphones, Android is also used in tablet computers and television sets, but Schmidt said it could potentially do much more -- and already is.

"Indeed, there are companies that are putting Android in refrigerators," Schmidt said. "Refrigerators do need some automation."

"What you really want to be able to do is, as you walk into your house with your Android device, all the things that have computers in it sort of adjust as necessary," he said.

"When you go into the family room the television knows it's you because your device authenticates you as opposed to other family members," he said. "A text message comes to you.

"It all syncs together," Schmidt said.

That television in the family room could very well be running Google TV, which Schmidt said is doing "very well."

Sony, LG and Samsung are among the companies integrating Google TV, which allows a television viewer to access the Internet, and Schmidt said there are a "whole bunch of additional partners coming."

"It's the only offering I know of that fully integrates the television experience and the browsing experience," he said.

Schmidt also said there are currently 700,000 activations a day of Android devices, and that 200 million Android phones were sold last year.

"These numbers are growing very quickly," he said. "Android, in my view, is on a billion unit plan."

Schmidt was also asked about Google rivals Microsoft and Apple.
