Vegetarian sangat dianjurkan guna mengurangi pemanasan global.

Bayangkan yang terjadi dengan illegal logging…how many trees has been cut down for you? Imagine how they make the world hotter?

3. Ketika anda membeli 1 liter air mineral di supermarket = beli 5 liter air. Tanya kenapa?

They’re only a waste…yang mau ngga mau tanahlah yang harus me-recycle. Perkiraan orang memakai memakai tisue 6 lembar sehari. 2.200 lembar setaun. Berarti kira2 44 MILIAR lembar seluruh Indonesia setahun….Kalau kita menghemat 1 lembar saja tiap hari…berarti kita mengurangi sampah kertas sebanyak 7 MILIAR lembar setahun…HEBAT KAN?

5. Be Green on ATM?

a. Plastik ( pembungkus makanan, kantong kresek, kantong belanjaan )
b. Rumah tangga ( tulang ayam, sisa capcay. Makanan basi )

Is that the world you will leave for your children? Yang penting be smart for the sake of ourselves! Save the world, save our life’s, save our children!

Jangan Lupa Matikan Lampu 28 Maret, Cukup Sejam Saja!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 298px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvSpIxCop7XtUwOoC-ENYNQLLf6E1rvU8-VVk7dVJu8dAVNYxZLhaorxR24Xq-KEmlW3eLw_QXplWPd8zMmnjgxUlKeKvRoOFjpcsNp8nn64deDzqIFtwB34oiv8Xq9z8F-q27MzBTzTnD/s320/102129p.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5309560126680733858" />

Ayo kita sama-sama mengurangi pemanasan global,,,,,,,,,,

Banjir Dan Kebangkrutan Air

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 127px; height: 95px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnb84Lv5l1bREjEljj98Kj4bpPHbevX3H_eMdoem459zVgUWMsTCN2iZDcK_C8LJYawdyBTeQIx0d6bZ7SuO7shilt7XQq6wp2gDyXEpYDgWEiVpYMDqxlGgov8MDq_8xKx7RrCB3IKWd0/s320/bnjir.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300985741911871058" />

Mau Udara Jakarta Bebas Polusi, Biodiesel Solusinya

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 115px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXbBS5KxNfr4tMYW7DgnlEOJgRgtzrLRDYcTtJeMlXZuSd9QpPfZmlYd0fRKfGAMlAdvIRmuaFkFx0Zi5cqOsN-A833lu9nn3w8GLq7rJmUgntk-waenGah4vTYGAB6S9_ue-D1iy33dnC/s320/images.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293960441651963410" />

Asap hitam yang mengepul dari knalpot metromini maupun kendaraan lain, pasti mengganggu kenyamanan berkendara ditambah lagi kemacetan jalanan yang makin membuat kita pusing.
Tapi, jangan khawatir!
Tapi biodiesel ramah lingkungan.

Polusi Karbon dari Layanan Google

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 298px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgE9X6FBkvaDktRKxueh84cbfY0-y1FBUqIBWBcBYvg8S2ZKeTKvodkyOfkHAvFuPO0Bi-PpBVS3N_XvUhsXqShcTBUkoTJdvR3eDlcL48YWOeW8htzAnpPa7TYmmnsCNw23zMxjqkPmgH/s320/222712p.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5290593395551171762" />

Google mengklaim setiap kali pencarian rata-rata dibutuhkan 0,2 detik.

PENYAKIT MUNCUL AKIBAT PEMANASAN GLOBAL

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 298px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk4IT7Mj22-Dbh8GB3VHBrbWgywDqlx3GrgN3arPPrMmulbvh32IiwxgVgAxRx28faVntPrnLXicc9GPzcpfzzzbAt7KFIIqfgeCYqocT7SjzyHchrg67hSaEh28hxfP-oIPbwGlG5X-77/s320/102129p.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288022071520274130" />

Global Warming Bikin Dunia Banjir Pejantan

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 298px; height: 224px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPk9_4KTGTZC_0MpTf17YMViNDPOQ1EevkoTSwDIdTV5xC93z_YmNc2p-lEZxR_DX_nRYjg5g1khJSb7w-fM2zdtjFP55vcLKKaKVYRtFn2HQyjsb9OA8pdhSG3PGDTntpkE5iIislnkD4/s400/041009p.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285863441178467762" />

Birthday Wish List

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 93px; height: 130px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibkQ0y0sB7aM8Y8NALJiydsUfpL2B8F2JA6HyqNe_VrotYnPixKbrmQz9HeQZuKe9VZUuiRDf5VABz5kBAS0c2LkUWrZhXRl8W9QvOpFuvzQADmtOvqFJa1CtWd8xEPZmglsnk6gwbfCbQ/s400/images.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285754670206429538" />
Pe-er lagi neh dari bu guru,,,,biasa murid yang satu ini suka terlambat ngerjain Pe-ernya,,tapi gpp kan terlambat juga, yang penting dikerjakan ya bu gulu,,he,,he,,
Pe-er kali ini Brithday wish list,,,I think it is difficult to say whether there is such a thing as hope or not.,,,tapi kayanya ada yah,,,,ya bu guru terlambat deh ngasih pe-ernya,,,lina ulang tahunnya udah desember awal,,tapi gpp mumpung masih bulan desember barangkali ada yang mo nyusul memenuhi harapan lina....(mengaharap bener yah,,,,he,,he,,jadi malu eng )

Udah ah mo ngerjain pe-ernya dulu,,,wah ada aturannya neh,,,yuk kita lanjut,,,

Peraturannya :
a. But both senators from Oklahoma, Republicans Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe, have often expressed doubts about how much of a role man-made emissions play.

“We want the debate to be about science, not fear and hypocrisy. We hope next year’s wave of new politics means a return to science,” said Coburn aide John Hart. “It’s the old kind of politics that doesn’t consider any dissenting opinions.”

The global cooling lobby’s challenge is enormous. Next year could be the unfriendliest yet for climate skeptics. Already, House Energy and Commerce Chairman John Dingell (D-Mich.) has lost his gavel, in part because his peers felt he was less than serious about tackling global warming.

The National Academy of Sciences and most major scientific bodies agree that global warming is caused by man-made carbon emissions. But a small, growing number of scientists, including D’Aleo, are questioning how quickly the warming is happening and whether humans are actually the leading cause.

Armed with statistics from the Goddard Institute for Space Studies and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Climate Data Center, D’Aleo reported in the 2009 Old Farmer’s Almanac that the U.S. annual mean temperature has fluctuated for decades and has only risen 0.21 degrees since 1930 — which he says is caused by fluctuating solar activity levels and ocean temperatures, not carbon emissions.

Data from the same source shows that during five of the past seven decades, including this one, average U.S. temperatures have gone down. And the almanac predicted that the next year will see a period of cooling.

“We’re worried that people are too focused on carbon dioxide as the culprit,” D’Aleo said. “Recent warming has stopped since 1998, and we want to stop draconian measures that will hurt already spiraling downward economics. We’re environmentalists and conservationists at heart, but we don’t think that carbon is responsible for hurricanes.”

D’Aleo’s organization, the International Climate and Environmental Change Assessment Project, is collaborating on the campaign with the Cooler Heads Coalition, a subgroup of the National Consumer Coalition with members including Americans for Tax Reform, the National Center for Policy Analysis and Citizens for a Sound Economy.

More than 31,000 scientists across the world have signed the Global Warming Petition Project, a declaration started by a group of American scientists that states man’s impact on climate change can’t be reasonably proven.

If the project gains traction, it might give skeptical lawmakers an additional weapon to fight cap-and-trade legislation to curtail greenhouse gases — a move they worry could damage the already fragile economy. At the least, congressional aides say, it could caution additional lawmakers from rushing into a hasty piece of legislation.

Many Hill skeptics have varying opinions on whether the earth’s temperature is warming more slowly than some environmentalists predict and how much man is actually contributing to it.

Inhofe’s staff has been steadily compiling a list of global cooling findings. And aides report that they have received countless e-mails from scientists worldwide supporting the theory. While Inhofe hasn’t indicated that he will move forward with the information anytime soon, his aides continue to compile it.

AWARD SECOND

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 64px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNNsG1roeFuoYv_xCSDZThYJHwEd1X66dW5fFZU8rUPcHNd5x_4S4b2bE0HtOpcx4gI2YfVbOYNVCK5aiPKZCxu2mLlFWJQea9D21wlsRBkKTACPRba9l8ypzaYIZRDfW0LlqTDBKns06e/s400/award+anna2.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5271758039039481810" />

first I want to excuse for my friend because this homework just now I to do.
I have award second form my friend I don't how to said for him. Discussion of the issue can seem so abstract (the UNIntergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) or so trivial (eco-fashionaccessories) that it’s difficult to get a grip on it.
So for a topical, colorful and close-at-hand example of what’s at stake,consider the poinsettia.

More than 60 million poinsettias are likely to be sold this holiday season,making the plant a ubiquitous symbol of the multidimensional changes requiredfor our society to become green.
Regan Cronin lives with the energy dilemma facing small businesses. Sheowns and operates the Good Earth Greenhouse, where I work part time, whichincludes a garden center in River Forest and a nursery in Lockport.
Recently Cronin noted that energy costs are projected to increase 40percent over the next five years – a fact that led her to ask, “How will thatimpact my poinsettia crop?” The plants are a large part of Cronin’s yearlysales. She grows 33 varieties – roughly 8,000 potted plants each year – andsells them wholesale and at her garden center. Larger nurseries might grow25,000 to 30,000 of the plants.
Poinsettias were originally cultivated in their native area, subtropicalMexico, by the Aztecs. To grow them in an Illinois greenhouse requirescarefully controlled conditions.
In July, rooted cuttings arrive by truck. Head grower Tom Culak describeshis growing methods as “the most earth-friendly possible,” including the useof a preventive biological fungicide in place of standard drenches (in which aliquid fungicide is applied to the soil).
He grows the plants “dry” (similar to their low-rainfall natural habitat).”The plants tell me when they need water or other care,” he says. This alsohelps avoid chemical overuse.
But climate control is where energy costs and environmental factorsconverge. Poinsettias cannot survive below about 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Theyprefer night temperatures between 58 and 68 degrees, and they can’t tolerateexcessive heat. Culak and his crew nurture them in 70,000-square-foot”polyhouses” that are 25 years old. They are not insulated, and they must becooled by large fans and heated by natural gas.
During summer, the fans run nearly 24 hours a day. In fall, fans and heatalternate. By November, the heat runs constantly.
Cronin is conscious of both costs and the environment. So the effects ofglobal warming and the projected rise in energy prices have forced a series ofdecisions upon her: Should she tear down the old greenhouses and rebuild, ormerely retrofit? Which alternative energy sources should she investigate? Orshould she change crops to something that uses less energy?
But then, Cronin wonders, what about her wholesale customers? Would shelose their business? And how could she afford the changes?
In our market-driven culture, “customer demand” often becomes shorthand forsocial customs and traditions. We Americans celebrate holidays by buyingthings. Fittingly, the custom of displaying poinsettias in December is aresult of effective marketing.
Joel Roberts Poinsett was ambassador to Mexico when he first brought theplants to his greenhouses in South Carolina in 1825. For years, poinsettiaswere sold mostly as outdoor plants in warm climates.
But during the 20th Century, the use of fossil fuels for climate controland transportation, and the use of petrochemical fertilizers and syntheticgrowing aids meant poinsettias could flourish nearly anywhere. Paul Ecke, aCalifornia grower, bred new varieties and marketed the plants intensively asliving symbols of Christmas.
Today more than $220 million worth of the plants are sold every year.Poinsettias are taken for granted; we buy them at school and churchfundraisers, give them as gifts and use them to decorate corporate offices,hospitals and homes. Their production helps provide jobs for thousands. Theirpurchase and use is a tradition rooted in our energy-unconscious past, poweredby marketing, and considered by millions to be part of the way things are, andindeed should be. Yet it is a tradition almost completely dependent on fossilfuels.
No matter how she answers her questions about growing poinsettias, Croninfaces a dilemma that belongs to all of us, every day, no matter where we liveor what our livelihood.
In his book, “Collapse,” Jared Diamond says societies that attempt to keepbusiness and culture going “as usual” rather than adapt to changingenvironmental circumstances are in danger of failure.
So where will our change originate? Do we all attempt to keep going asbefore, or are we willing to revamp our market-driven cultural constructs andmove toward eco-effectiveness? Who will pay for the changeover? How can smallbusiness owners make expensive alterations yet make a reasonable profit?
When considering climate change and oil depletion, it’s easy to talk of”paradigm change”; easy to blame the Republicans or Democrats; easy to cast”the corporations” as the enemy or, conversely, to claim that “the freemarket” will somehow solve our energy and environmental problems. What’sdifficult is to move from discussing abstractions to finding solutions ineveryday life.
The next time you buy an inexpensive, disposable poinsettia, whether intraditional red, cheery pink, or creamy white, think about these things. Thatbeautiful plant is more than just a seasonal decoration.

Constructing Dams vs. Global Warming

The Public Works Ministry has announced a government plan to construct 17 large dams, including the Nipah and Bajulmati, East Java; Ponreponre in South Sulawesi; Peusangan 1, 2 and Keuliling in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam; Lebak Karian in Banten; Asahan 3, 4 and 5 in North Sumatra; Lore Rindu and Sulewana in Central Sulawesi; Mamberamo in West Papua, and the 45-year-old plan for the Jatigede dam in West Java. At the end of a six-day trip to Beijing last year, Vice President Jusuf Kalla confirmed the Jatigede project (to be the second largest dam in Indonesia after Jatiluhur) would soon be built by China’s largest dam building company, Sinohydro Corp.

Our vice president mentioned that large dams built during Soeharto’s presidency were successful achievements.
But we must not forget the negative impacts of such large dams on many aspects of human lives. These large dam projects go against the commitments our goverment made to fight global warming at the UNFCCC meeting in Bali last December.

Large dams are large greenhouse gas (GHG) contributors. The World Commission on Dams findings have shown that dam water inundates large tracts of land (including forests, stones of historical sites, housing materials and fields), whose anaerobic reactions from decaying organic material emits greenhouse gases — which at present contributes up to 28 percent of the world’s total emissions.

The International Rivers Network assessed that power dams in the Amazon basin produced up to 45 times more GHG (including methane and carbon dioxide) than by naturally powered plants. As dam turbines churn up the dam water, these GHG’s are released into the atmosphere.

The most relevant of domino-effects our government needs to anticipate are the socio-economic impacts of building large dams. Dam construction often creates social conflicts especially between upstream societies who do not need to move, and downstream societies who would receive irrigation benefits.

One of the most controversial issues is compensation for farmers. During Soeharto’s time, with ‘the national interest’ as a pretext, people were often forced into abandoning their land with very little compensation. Kedung Ombo dam is one of the most controversial cases, which involved the World Bank as its main financier.

The people of Tanjung Pauh village who were displaced by the Kotopanjang dam in Riau, were promised rubber trees ready to harvest in several years. It turned out there were no rubber trees. Villagers were cheated for the sake of the Japanese funded dam.

Instead of its predicted lifespan of 100 years, Kedungombo is now not expected to hold water for more than 10 years. Jatigede would in fact be built to cover up the failures of the Jatiluhur dam to irrigate Karawang and Indramayu, as Citarum water catchment area has only been 9 percent left. These all depict that the national history of large dams is worthy to reappraise the worthiness of the government to initiate or continue building other 17 large dams.

The international world has moved forward to the dam decommissioning, de-activation or dismantling policies, especially in Europe and the United States.

In 2000, decommissioning negotiation was made between the Colombian dam builder company and the victimized communities, Embera-Katio people. Out of 2000 large dams built before 1950 in British Columbia, almost two dozens have been dismantled, while proposals have piled up to destroy others, as not functioning as expected, instead endanger water ecosystems.

International Rivers Network believes the trend of river revival as dam decommissioning is likely to go worldwide, as climate change makes the safety of dams and the high cost of retrofitting them a serious argument for decommissioning. (www.internationalrivers.org)

Public Works and Infrastructure and Housing Ministries have actually worked on much more secure and environmental friendly alternative projects to secure irrigation and power, that is micro hydropower.

AWARD

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 158px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiYsIttg-VclXnhEdYiUEAXQ8IosiX8aHDmteKRGufUKUifD01w2eP9f-zd1ECK-vRsXlurECF8irPcJ050rmrRM_IDhWgCZ5bIr6JW_wBHxisbXXPydxSHE_2aYcF7y7xR587NvWxgzhl/s400/Award+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266565223980535874" />

EEuuuuuuuuiit,,,I have award from my colleague,,,thank's very much,,,,

I want to give this award to my friend below:
1.ANDINI
2.BLOGENDENG
3.KRAMLO
4.CHIKKADOR
5.MOH.ASNAWI
6.PROMOSI
7.RICKY
8.JOBVACANCY
9.BUSBY SEO TEST
10.TIPS-TIPSJITU

”WHAT NAME MEANS”

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 100px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_-cZWqEgDicxOzlrHwxX4NOv3e_jNwS6dnwbCaiySmPekDt74D04d_fdq5efv2pCw-qz0Sjep7iAvD_anFgN7Yghxp539PRVXHQb-2hz8pwTFdNIGrBBarkBBqPOr2EQVWGpkFc-2AwCr/s400/name.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264995718295578962" />

Ok,,I will to do my homework from my clloeague,,,,some people curious
”WHAT NAME MEANS”

My name’s adeherlina,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
What Adeherlina Means ,,,,,let’s go to read……….
You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.

You are balanced, orderly, and organized. The first thing for you to do is to understand which areas you should focus on the most. The biggest sources of global warming causing gases in most homes come from heating, cooling, and eletricity use for appliances and lighting.

How To Prevent Global Warming By Using Less Electricity
Using less electricity is pretty simple if you are willing to make some changes in your daily life. The first thing to understand is that anything that heats up by using electricity requires a lot of energy, and it's best to find alternatives. Some examples of the kinds of appliances you want to avoide are toasters, irons, ovens, dryers, dishwashers, hair curlers, etc. Most of these kinds of technologies are easy enough to do without. You can hang your clothing as soon as you are done washing it and you'll eliminate your need to use a dryer for example.
Turning off lights and appliancs when they are not in use is also a very simple, and basic act that helps prevent global warming. Try putting up signs around your house to remind you and others to turn things of when they are not in use. Also, many appliances like DVD players still draw electricity even after you have turned them off. The way you can tell if an appliance is still drawing electricity after you turn it off is to see if there is still some sort of digital display or light that is on. If so, you are using electricity. To deal with this you can get power strips and plug your appliances into those and then turn off your power strips and you'll insure that now power is going to light a digital display.
Also, don't forget about compact florecent bulbs. They use a fraction of the electricty of a regular bulb and they'll save you money over the long term.
Understanding The Bigger Picture of Global Warming Prevention
With all the tips listed above you may loose site of the bigger picture. The important thing to remember is that the things that use the most energy are the ones that matter the most, and sadly for most people those things fall into three categories: heating and cooling, transportation, food.
I've explained how you can help prevent global warming in your own home, but by doing so I've left out two of the three biggest areas of people's carbon footprint, namely your transportation and your eating habits. Driving less, eating locally and eating lower on the food chain are also very important parts of your personal contribution to global warming. So, don't get too caught up in making sure everyone in your family always turns off the lights if you still drive to work every day. Keep the big picture in mind and then your actions will have a much bigger impact on helping to prevent global warming!

'Dangerous' Global Warming

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEVd5RXIiTilZ-w7wlQRv8YgiPRScmM4trL73eN0yWY_giJ23xjpQAD1BjQ07_uI4rvDxifHeZPWYDrM_tXOtQGbOaVzZ4uoAhLNszF4p3GrWfltNX5QpY893A7eKm8tLMtwipRH7sEmWx/s320/0124-02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262395591703146226" />

OSLO - World temperatures could surge in just two decades to a threshold likely to trigger dangerous disruptions to the earth's climate, the WWF environmental group said on Sunday.
It said the Arctic region was warming fastest, threatening the livelihoods of indigenous hunters by thawing the polar ice-cap and driving species like polar bears toward extinction by the end of the century.
"If nothing is done, the earth will have warmed by 2.0 Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels by some time between 2026 and 2060," the WWF said in a report.
Few scientists have estimated such an early date for a 2.0C rise, seen by the WWF as a threshold that may spur "dangerous" warming, raising sea levels and causing more floods, storms or droughts and driving some species to extinction.
World temperatures have already risen by about 0.7C since 1750 with most scientists blaming a build-up of heat-trapping gases like carbon dioxide emitted by burning fossil fuels in factories, power plants and cars.
The European Union and many other environmental groups say that governments should cap emissions of greenhouse gases to try to prevent a 2.0C temperature rise. The United States has rejected binding caps under the U.N.'s Kyoto protocol.
At some point, some scientists fear that rising temperatures could cause a runaway warming, for instance by melting permafrost in Siberia that could in turn release deposits of heat-trapping methane to the atmosphere.
"Time is running out to avoid a two degree rise," said Mark New, a climate expert at England's Oxford University who made the 2026-60 projections in the report commissioned by the WWF.
TIME BOMB?
He told Reuters his study was based on a review of climate models used by the U.N. climate panel in its latest 2001 report. Another international report last week said that rising temperatures were a ticking time bomb for the climate.
Others scientists say that such projections are scaremongering and reckon temperatures will rise far less sharply, if at all, because of the buildup of greenhouse gases.
New's study projected that the Arctic would warm by 3.2-6.6C if the globe warmed by 2.0C overall.
In the Arctic, such a warming could melt polar ice in summer by 2100, pushing polar bears toward extinction. On land, forests would grow further north, overrunning tundra that is a habitat for birds including snow buntings and terns.
"Global warming threatens to wreak havoc on the traditional ways of life of Inuit, putting an end to our hunting and food sharing culture," said Sheila Watt-Cloutier, chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference.
The Arctic warms faster than the global average because dark water and land, once uncovered, soaks up more heat than snow or ice. A report by 250 scientists last year also projected a fast warming in the Arctic that would also open new shipping routes and make the region accessible for oil and gas exploration.
The WWF report is to be presented at a conference in Exeter, England, on Feb. 1-3. The talks will focus on a 1992 U.N. convention whose goal is to stabilize greenhouse gases at levels meant to prevent "dangerous" human interference on the climate.
The convention does not define what it means by "dangerous" climate change.
The U.N.'s Kyoto protocol, seeking to rein in greenhouse gas emissions under the convention, will enter into force on Feb. 16. President Bush pulled out of Kyoto in 2001, saying it would cost too much and wrongly excludes developing nations.

America Underwater: What Global Warming Looks Like

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 75px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ1zeJ_r3XxX_CIjjItq-QjZIq8js1bsdhbU1w68DGLd6V6RO0YVyVbSfwxl_ycsEHiIZzLQCUI54mZmSxgZC5WanvXnZBQXzwupSkvS5oGEsLw3_fi7Tov0oTlYwkWz_c6S9Zm_bVvpnL/s400/ht_new_york2_070913_mc.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261666389134666786" />

Architecture 2030 is a nonprofit that tries to bring attention to the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that the building sector contributes to global warming through inefficient electricity use, lighting, heating and cooling. "If we take action now, it may not be too late," United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said in an interview today in the garden of U.N. headquarters in New York.
His "may" gave this correspondent pause. His words were clearly carefully considered.
The subject was global warming. How serious does he think it is?
"The science has made it quite clear. The impact has been felt seriously around the world. Now only lacking largely is a political will," said Ban. "As a human being, a whole international community is standing at the very critically important juncture. Whether or not we address this issue properly and collectively, the whole future of our generation and planet Earth will depend."
Ban has declared that global warming will be a priority of his tenure at the United Nations.
He also clearly considers it a matter of the greatest gravity.
When this reporter pointed out that some scientists are writing books and saying in public that they believe this crisis is so serious that if humanity goes on with business as usual -- not significantly cutting overall greenhouse gas emissions -- it could seriously lead to the collapse of civilization, even in the lifetime of today's children, he replied:
"I think that is a correct assessment. People say that action should have been taken yesterday. If we take action today, it may not be too late."
Ban had worked hard to convene Monday's special high-level meeting at U.N. headquarters. The meeting was the largest meeting of heads of state and government ever held to debate the problem of global warming -- a gathering that set the tone for the annual opening of the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday.
Notably absent at the all-day high level meeting was President Bush, who has in the past cast doubt on the vitrtually unanimous scientific consensus that dangerous global warming is now under way and is attributable in large part to human activities.

GEOTHERMAL

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWH_f1XD-Xdh2ux4SyPyPk123thqyVvwR_FnHebuhtD720bwKby45AdvTsOXXq5cYGNzmEurzqxOp-TrqN61fWfX2x0_4_2SEcR_lT58CxWv1HyZZfxNXxpN1jCSWDDQwy-BeUqaxIxyjp/s200/images.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259808890735383410" />
Can Geothermal Energy Offset Global Warming?

Question: If we extract enough heat from the earth using geothermal energy, could we offset global warming?
Answer: To oversimplify, geothermal electricity consists of:
1. Locating a suitable geothermal reservoir (underground collection of hot water or steam).
2. Drilling a well to penetrate the hot underground water or vapor (geothermal fluid).
3. Extracting the hot fluid.
4. Using a power plant and related infrastructure to produce electricity, cool the geothermal fluid, and inject some of it back into the system for reuse.
Since we are using the heat of the earth to run the power plant, some of this energy is transformed into electricity. This means there will be a net heat loss from the reservoir, and the earth temperature must decrease (blame the laws of thermodynamics). Your question is, could we do enough of this to actually measurably cool the earth. The simple answer is no-geothermal does result in cooling, but the impact is insignificant.
Some 42 million megawatts of energy reach the surface continually and are radiated into space as the earth cools from its initial molten state more than 4 billion years ago. No feasible amount of geothermal development could make even a small dent in this process. Furthermore, the earth’s heat budget is continually replenished by the radioactive decay of naturally occurring elements, and almost all of the energy associated with each decay event is converted to heat. Plus, the heat content of the geothermal reservoir rocks is continually replenished by conduction of heat from the earth’s deeper interior.
But, if you’re thinking about global warming, using all of that heat to provide clean energy is obviously a way to go. Like the sunlight hitting the earth every day, the energy available from the heat of the earth is enormous and largely unused as a source of energy. If we could tap just a fraction of the heat reaching the surface of the earth every year, we could provide all of the heat and power needed to run our society, and avoid the potentially tragic consequences of overusing fossil fuels.

THE PHOTOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTATION OF CLIMATE CHANGE

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ6eHi_TkjgGjMlDH5XzNrzVBerPScjYUygNM6PAiA3aKdAfRGym-sM9hhl1dM7j9hOlwnfwHjiovthMZpAD7RV0O5vbukni9qB15dgRpolPs1FDB1aFMyRofHX3oujDNhwQaR6yt3wZAx/s200/TuvaluTideWave4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257942841780036002" />
OCEAN INUNDATES ISLAND NATIONS

Sea level rise is the greatest problem. Tuvalu's highest elevation is 4.6 meters -- 15 feet -- but most of it is no more than a meter above the sea. Several times each year the regular lunar cycle of tides, riding on the ever higher mean sea level, brings the Pacific sloshing over onto roads and into neighborhoods. In the center of the larger islands the sea floods out of old barrow pits and even squirts up out of the coral bedrock. Puddles bubble up that eventually cover part of the airport on the main island of Funafuti and inundate homes that are not along the ocean.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer;Polar bears threatened by
cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8Q7rdD14655FFnftg9dt31ZLeyNCpOKQyPPTz9pZhT8tnplG0tmgVrx3P05zc7FKXnLWn3IJBsv7A9W4-bVpPBagpJL7bLNG-QALSpO78hYEVFBMM74_crREkV6OjRBo6DSSzfQnf-0IB/s200/8ChinaGRNPC.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257942726634928386" />

CHINA, THE ROUSING GIANT OF GLOBAL WARMING

In northern Guangdong, farmers who had good wells now must carry water past dried up fish ponds

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUY6QRPBkv9kespBsaCn6ZYMtakcQDQHSxXrAQS4XIRrntEN-m8aLsb6jIqk7F0LIFcCVf4XTdor1kkmQ5GZAI1YZEJsjRxL7boSk5BSsTGjO0PCvleNdN9_5wUpSTV_H3ntFfmSys03o_/s200/GloriaSite111Web.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257942591757275026" />
ECOSYSTEM SHIFT UP MOUNTAINSIDES

Pushing the Boundaries of Life: Temperate Zone
Alpine meadow and fell-field ecosystems are changing under atmospheric warming. On this site at 3000 meters in the Austrian Alps, Botanist Harald Pauli and researchers are finding plant species increasing and decreasing at different rates over a 10 year period. Essentially, the familiar alpine wildflower fields are being fragmented and rearranged. This is especially dangerous for plants forced to move upwards where there is just rock and ice, says Pauli. "We are running into a really serious loss of biodiversity." The 380 sites here were established in 1994 by Georg Grabherr, Pauli and others at the University of Vienna. This alpine research idea has expanded world wide into GLORIA - the "Global Observation Research Initiative in Alpine Environments."

The glaciers behind the scientists are an even more visible sign of global warming, and have receded many meters per year recently.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKrk42biKblupV1YEbSluN5jacqztg_fYXByDYUfkz65WC4OlgcZpJc6mf-gp9MTFBtUKt9gTGX-7NsRPlkLcTnTABVfAgDpzMslQrktRWqvSrx1IkZGa9TKTNYCXnyrCn4A5j27-mcpoA/s200/quad1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257942327058361442" />
POLAR BEARS THREATENED BY RECORD THAW ACROSS THE ARCTIC

Polar Bear Listed in Endangered Species Act, but U.S. Government Limits Its Protection
The polar bear was officially listed as threatened under the U.S. endangered species act (ESA) on May 14, 2008. This the first creature brought under the act's protection for habitat loss that is linked to global warming. The official reason given was loss of Arctic sea ice and predictions that the ice will continue to decrease. Although global warming has been identified by most atmospheric and polar scientists as the main reason for Arctic warming and melting of sea ice, the U.S. Interior Department did not use this as a reason and clearly signaled it would not apply the law to greenhouse gas emissions.
Dirk Kempthorne, Interior Secretary, specifically said the listing would not prevent any sea ice from melting and that he would "make certain the ESA isn't abused to make global warming policies." This despite clear language in the ESA to control any activity causing harm to a listed species and requiring government agencies specifically not to jeopardize species by their actions. The wording of the listing document appears to be an attempt of the government to list the bear due to clear evidence of shrinking habitat yet not take all the steps to limit the loss. It seems analogous to President Bush's notorious "signing statements" limiting his acceptance of a Congressional law.
This could set up another court challenge by NGOs like the Center for Biological Diversity which originally brought the proposal and took the Interior Dept to court twice to get action.
"Threatened" under the ESA means a plant or animal may soon become endangered (at immediate risk of going extinct) if actions are not taken to protect it and its habitat.
See inside for more details on Arctic melting and polar bear habitat.
