Perfect Time Killer

There are many great inventors and inventions. These inventions impact our lives in very large ways. Some inventions make our lives easier while others add to life's complexity. But what call my attention the most are the practical inventions that mainly has made life easier for the people like the luggage trolley with built in scooters, remote controlled appliances, automatic kitchen gadgets, sensor faucets and toilet flush, dual flush toilet, etc. Why? Because I am a stay at home mom and these things are my house helpers.

There are also things that were invented mainly to entertain. One of them is the potty putter. As you can see men spend much time in the toilet seat. Some even bring newspapers or magazines to kill the time so as not to get bored. The potty putter is a perfect time killer while pooping and a great idea also working on your putting. It combined two things men love to do.

Potty putter can be a perfect gift for golfers and for those that take their time inside the comfort room. Well, my husband is not playing golf but I am sure he will love this one as he is one of those spending much time in the toilet seat. I can’t wait to give him this potty putter.

Father of the Bride

When hubby learned that our theme for this week is about “weddings”, he asked me to post “Father of the Bride”. He likes this movie because he can relate to it. Like George Banks, the father in the movie, we have an only daughter. Hubby sees himself in George Bank’s shoes when our dearest daughter is about to marry.

George Bank’s (Steve Martin) daughter Annie met a man while studying in Europe. When Annie (Kimberly Williams) gets home from a semester, she tells her father that she is engaged to be married to Bryan (George Newbern). How can he give his little girl to a man he barely knows? His mixed feelings about his daughter’s marriage and the wedding cost which he is obliged to handle, make the wedding torturous for him. While he is struggling to cope with Annie’s upcoming wedding, he melancholy look back to all the good times he has had with her.

Father of the Bride is a remake of the the 1950’s Spencer Tracy's classic. I first saw this movie when I was in third year college. Though this movie does not provide much depth, it has meaningful insight and tells us something about what we value. It could help a daughter to understand his father and the father to understand the pain of separation. It is realistic, touching and likable. It made me laugh and cry at the same time.

Addictive and Entertaining

There are two things that my family is currently addicted to, the Plants vs. Zombies and Chuck.

We may be late but it is only now that we discovered this game. Hubby downloaded this game, Plants vs. Zombies. It is another addictive and entertaining game from PopCap Games, developer of games that shake the net gaming industry such as Bookworm, Bejeweled and Zuma.

Plants vs. Zombies is a tower defense game. The object of the game is to kill all the zombies before they can invade your house and eat your brains. Violent as it may sound but it is not. The cute graphics are well animated and attracts a wide range of audiences, from children to adults. In fact, the three of us, hubby, I and RJ, are playing it.

The zombies are invading your house and your task is to protect your house with your arsenal of plants. You will strategically place the 48 zombie-killing plants in front of your house. Each plant has its own unique ability, advantage, and disadvantage. You need to think which plants can kill the batch of zombies and you need to plant fast to stop the 26 types of zombies with different capabilities and powers. There are different game modes, the adventure, mini-games, puzzle and survival, that make it more fun, challenging and addictive. I just finished all the levels and got the gold trophy. My eyes sored but it’s all worth it.

The other thing that is keeping us busy after dinner is "Chuck". We can't get enough of this action-comedy TV series from the United States. The first series was premiered on September 24, 2007 and is now on its 3rd season.

Chuck is nickname of Charles Bartowski (Zachary Levi), a computer-geek next door who turned into a spy. The world's greatest spy secrets were embedded into his brain when he opened the email he received from his friend Bryce Larkin. Because of this, the US government needs him to track down the terrorists groups, the Fulcrum and the Ring. Chuck meets Sarah Walker (Yvonne Starhovski), a CIA sexy super-spy whose mission , together with NSA agent John Casey (Adam Baldwin), is to keep Chuck and his newly-obtained secrets out of the hands of the enemy at all cost. Chuck and Sarah fall in love with each other but because a spy can't fall in love with a spy, they are trying to suppress their feelings but then you can see the love in their eyes.

Like other TV series, there are characters that make Chuck alive such as Chuck's goofy bestfriend Morgan Grimes (Joshua Gomez), his troublesome sister Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and her "Captain Awesome" doctor boyfriend Devon Woodcomb (Ryan McPartlin), his manager at the Buy More Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence) and the Nerd Herd nerdies Lester (Vik Sahay) and Jeff (Scott Krinsky).

This is a comedy, action and romance, all in one. In 2009, the series won the Ewwy Award for Best Comedy Series and Zachary Levi for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.

Feeling Sexy

Oh my! Niko is asking us to post picture that is showing some flesh. I don’t know why these themes crossed Niko’s mind. Well, because I am one of those brave girls, I will post mine…and that picture is dyaraaan!Sorry to disappoint you girls, this is the farthest I can go. I am not brave enough to wear string bikinis because of my stretch marks on the upper part of my thighs. Take note, I exerted efforts in losing some weight and flab so I can wear this two piece. See those flab in the tummy area? I don't care if they are bulging everywhere as long as I feel sexy...lol!

Being sexy doesn't mean showing more flesh anyway. A fully clothed woman can be sexier than a nude girl. Sexiness is all about the attitude, being confident and loving yourself. If you want to be sexy, be yourself and walk with your head up high.

Smartbro's Service is Improving

It is time to say something nice about Smartbro, our internet provider. Our download speed is ranging from 110kbps-170kbps on peak hours and reaches 300+kbps on early mornings and late evenings for two weeks now. Still slow compared to its maximum speed of 1mbps but a lot more faster than our download speed before which was 30kbps-80kbps during peak hours.

My husband is monitoring the speed of Smartbro and documenting it so he can have concrete proof and basis for his complaints. He is quite impressed (but still not satisfied) with Smartbro's service. Maybe the Smartbro upgraded their base stations because aside from the improved speed, we seldom experience intermittent connections for weeks. I hope Smartbro will continue to upgrade and improve their service. It is a giant company anyway and has millions of subscribers.

Yes, that’s how good this novel is. It hooks everyone reading it, be an adult or young adult, and it is addicting. You will want more after reading this novel. That is why may be I have very high expectations on its movie adaptation, The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

I have seen Twilight, the first movie of the Twilight series, and I liked it very much. I watched it twice and still want to watch it one day. It made me “kilig” (chilled) to my bones. So when I saw New Moon’s trailer, I told myself that I won’t miss this movie. Plus the fact that the movie has huge promotion and many positive reviews that made me wanting more to watch it. But to my dismay, it is far from what I have expected. It didn’t give me any chill and yes I was very much disappointed. The movie is not as good as the novel. You cannot feel the thrill, romance and chill that you get while reading the novel when you watch this movie.

Reminiscing

Reminiscing is one of my favorite past times whenever I am alone and have nothing much to do, browsing old love letters and old pictures or even watching the video coverage of our wedding. I was looking on our wedding album this morning and the first thing I saw in our wedding album was our wedding invitation. It is attached on the album’s first page. Because our motif was old rose and silver, our wedding invitation is old rose with silver ribbon and the letters are silver. It is a simple invitation and my husband and I both like it. We chose it personally in fact. But sometimes I am having this thought that we should have gotten out of the box and had chosen a unique wedding invitation. My husband and I are unique individuals and our wedding must have reflected that.

Example of unique wedding invitations is a photo wedding invitation like the one in the picture. Oh I so love this invitation but it is a new design and not available yet during our time. It has a large, black pocket that holds the invitation on one side and the enclosures on the other for a unique perspective. The pocket is accented with a black foil swirl design. The photos are printed at the bottom of the bright white, z-fold invitation of textured paper, names at the top and a verse, along with wording and wedding information. Very beautiful and unique indeed!
We will be getting married again on our 25th wedding anniversary, 15 years from now, and I will make sure that all accessories for our silver wedding will be unique including the wedding invitation.

Each year 350,000 sex related crimes are reported and approximately 60,000 to 70,000 sex crimes occur against children under 18 years of age.

Releasing of certain information about sex offenders to public agencies and the general public will assist in protecting the public safety that is why a database of convicted sex offenders are created. The public may receive information about dangerous sex offenders who live or work in each community to prevent further victimization.

It seems that your children are not safe anywhere, even in the place where the most powerful president of the world lives. More often than not,an abuser or abductor is known to the child. He or she can be a neighbor, teacher, relative, school bus driver or family friend. Do not wait until you are informed that a sex offender is living nearby to begin educating yourself and your family on issues of sexual assault. Through sexual offender in Washington’s database, you can find out how many Washington sex offender are living near your home and who these sex offenders are.

Be vigilant and alert too to protect yourself and your family. You can take simple precautions as follows:

• Practice good security at home, at the office, and in your vehicle.
• Educate yourself on crime prevention tactics.
• Organize neighborhood block watches, if desired by your neighbors.
• Make an effort to know the people with whom your child is spending time.
• Practice basic safety skills with your children.

Awareness is your best defense in sex related crimes. Educate yourself and your family about sexual assaults.

How to Prevent Fire at Home

It is March, the start of summer, and the heat is scorching. It is also the fire prevention month here. A fire may start at any time if people are not very careful. Studies show that 80% of fire occurs at home. There are lot of money, valued possessions and memories lost due to the damages and worst many people are injured and killed.

Here are some steps you can take to lessen the chance of your home from becoming a part of the fire statistic.

• Check the condition of your electrical system. Hire someone experienced in home electrical wiring.
• Turn off your gas connected to your gas range when it is not being used and before leaving the house.
• Do not overload your extension cords.
• Turn off the appliances and unplug them when not in use.
• Flammable things such as alcohol, kerosene and matches should be kept out of reach of children.
• Cook only when you are fully conscious. Do not cook or set fire when you are sleepy, drunk or nauseated.
• Damp your cigarette butts before throwing them.
• It is good to have fire extinguishers always ready.

Fires can be prevented only if people will be careful and undertake the proper measures.

Is my vital statistics worth revealing? I don't think so, ehehe! But then again, I don't care as long as I am the sexiest in hubby's eyes. Besides, it's one of the Girl's Talk theme this dare month so I have no choice.

My age: 38 years old
Height : 5'1" (yeah I am short)
Weight: 109 lbs.
Vital Stats: 34 29 35 (with little flab everywhere)

Mean Girls

I watched this movie years ago. I forgot it's title and searched for it because it is my entry for Tuesday Couch Potato's theme this week "School is Fun".

Mean Girls is a fun movie directed by Mark Waters, and has been praised as Linday Lohan's break-out film role.It can be enjoyed throughout by adults and more by its seeming targets, the teenagers.

It is about Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) who’s been home-schooled all her life because she lived with her parents in Africa bush and knows all the rules of survival in wilderness. She was thrown into junior year of high school in United States where she was totally unprepared for. She has to learn the rules of high school, back-stabbing, boyfriend stealing, rivalry, female friend relationships.

Cady Heron’s life quickly falls apart when she meets The Plastics, Regina (Rachel McAdams) and her two "little workers" Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried) and Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert). She makes the mistake of liking Regina’s former boyfriend, the hunky Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett). As Cady spends more time with the Plastics, she too, begins to become one and survives a high school life, a jungle in itself.

The film is very funny and it hits pretty hard with its description of the modern high schools. It combines humor with something that really happens in the everyday lives of high school girls. The characters did good job by having enough timing to deliver punchlines with an effective manner.

School is really fun. Mean Girls reminded me of my high school life. Ooops, don't get me wrong. I was not mean as these girls, just slight. lol! Share us your favorite movies at...

High-Index Lens

Since last week, whenever I am using the computer for a long time, I am getting sore, burning eyes and sometimes I am having blurry visions. I need to consult an optician this weekend. May be I need to wear eyeglasses. I can’t imagine myself wearing a pair of eyeglasses though. I think I will look a lot older than my age.

It’s great to know that there are stylish frames available now and that there are also what they call high-index lenses. High-index lens materials may be tend to cost more than standard plastic lenses, but it is thinner and lighter making it more comfortable to wear. It has impacted eyeglasses in a very significant way. It is made of a special plastic material that refracts light in a different way than regular plastic lenses. They are available in wide variety of indices from 1.50 to 1.74. The higher the number, the thinner the lenses are.

Contact lenses are wonderful alternative to spectacles and will allow me to enjoy clear uncompromised vision but it is a lot more expensive. What I can afford as of now are spectacles so ones with high-index lenses would be great. Of course, aside from comfort and affordability, the quality of the product and durability must be considered also.

Hubby's Description of Me

I peeped at Niko's site this morning to see what today's theme is. It's "describe yourself as a lover". I don't know how to describe myself as a lover so I text Rhonnel and asked if he can write some things about me as a lover then he emailed it to me at lunch time. Here it is...

Of course you are all familiar with the “Family Computer” game console which came out in the mid 80’s. Usually, it comes with game cartridges in 4 in 1, 20 in 1, and so on and so forth. I can say that my wife Rossel is in the 200 in 1 category as a lover. When we were starting out as a couple during our Pocketbell days, she used to bring me tokens, cards and small items (all handcrafted, mind you) to surprise me and my friends never stopped teasing me and telling me that I hit the jackpot.

Through the years, she evolved from a simple woman to a superwoman. She never complained of the household chores, taking care of our daughter RJ, managing our small business and coping with life’s low points. The saying “the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” is an understatement. She introduced me to foods that I don’t usually eat and damn, she really is good (pictures don’t lie).

As a lover...she's very giving and super sweet. She never gets tired of kissing and hugging me and saying "Mahal na mahal kita, Baby!" She's not a jealous type. She's very understanding. She understands that a man like me needs to have nights out sometimes and she's giving me allowance whenever I go out with my buddies. Yes, that's how understanding she is. But I must behave or else I will see her Batanguena side...she will spin me with "Balisong" hehehe!

What I love about her the most is her patience. Imagine her taking care of our seven year old daughter and her thirty six year old husband acting like a seven year old. Yes, she sometimes get pissed but she never complains. I really am worried because she might just lock me and RJ up in the comfort room.

Lastly, she is the coolest Mom in the world. She plays with us, joins us in our “trips”, she horses around too until her asthma forces her to stop and take her inhaler hehehe.

I can never ask for more. She loved me and RJ ever since unconditionally and I just regret that I cannot give her a more comfortable life. She deserves it for all her sacrifices. I love you baby!

Awww, this is so sweet though there are lines describing how I am when I am pissed off, lol! I love you too, Baby! Thanks for appreciating all the things I do for you and RJ. I will never get tired of taking care of both of you.

How to Prevent Eye Strain

I took a short break. I don't want to but I have to. My eyes got strained because of the prolonged use. They need to be rested for few days.

Two weeks ago, we changed our monitor from CRT to LCD. A CRT with low refresh rate (less than 70 Hz) can cause eye strain because of the flickering image and because it often goes slightly out of focus. LCDs do not go out of focus and are less susceptible to visible flicker. But then, I got sore, burning and painful eyes. I really don't know if the new monitor has something to do with it (hubby adjusted the contrast and brightness though) or my eyes just got tired suddenly. I am blogging for nearly a year now and even though I was popping in out sometimes, still I am spending most of my time in front of the computer.

The best way to prevent eye strain is not to use our eyes as much. But how would a blogging addict like me do that?

1. Shift a focus from near to far every chance you can. Looking out to a distance of least 20 feet every 20 minutes.
2. Don't stare at the monitor when you are waiting for something to load and relax your eyes by looking far away.
3. Make sure that the screen is at a 90 degree angle from any direct light source.
4. Adjust the contrast, brightness and colors of your monitor to the best effect.
5. Sooth your eyes by performing eye exercise gently.

The Last of the Mohicans is a must see movie. It's one of the most amazing films I've ever seen and it also features the greatest soundtracks ever. The movie is a masterpiece and has a bit of everything, including action, romance, war, and passionate drama. It is probably one film that will remain in movie history as one of the best ever.

Tuesday Couch Potato's theme for this week is "for the love of the family". The Last of the Mohicans" may be a war movie but how the three great men defend their heritage give chills to my bones.

We won't go out this Sunday, Valentine's Day. We will just order foods, buy cake and ice cream and watch the TV series we downloaded. We will stay in the house the whole day, most probably in the bedroom because there is where we spend most of our time when RJ and hubby are home. The heat is scorching and our bedroom is the only airconditioned room in our house. It will be just an ordinary weekend, except maybe for the foods ,but I am excited for it will be a great bonding again for the three of us.

I will be spending my whole Sunday with my two dates......my forever Valentine's Dates.

Why Do Cats Purr

We have a neighbor who has cats. RJ loves to watch these cats, how they play, sleep and eat. Yesterday, she approached me and asked, “Mama, bakit may tunog ang pusa na brrr-brrr?” (Why do cats purr?) I don’t know how to answer her question because neither I know why cats purr. So curious RJ and curious me surf the net together. And here is what we found out.

Kittens learn to purr when they are 2 days old. This is a bonding mechanism between kitten and mother. As the cats grow the purring continue. Most cat species, big and small purr. Cats’ body vibrates while they purr and purrs come in varying intensities.

We often thought that cats purr when they are content and happy because they purr when they are nursing their kittens or when humans provide social contact via petting, stroking or feeding. What we don’t know is cats purr most during tense or traumatic moments. When suddenly and violently injured, even at moments near death, a cat will often purr. It is their means of communication and a potential source of self-soothing and self-healing.

This relaxing, vibrating sound happens to be in frequency which promotes healing of bones and eases muscle pains. Studies show that cats tends to have faster healing bone fracture than other animals and suffer less from osteoarthritis and other bone disease.

This self-healing of the cat has facilitated the notion that “cats have nine lives”.

It is a very simple yet enjoyable story about Joe Kingman, a talented, selfish and famous football player who's life is all about football, parties, women and his dog, apparently a very good life but also a very lonely one when someday an 8 year old girl appears at his door telling that he is her dad and there's where he must learn how to be a parent and at the same time to live. His life changes from the playboy lifestyle of perhaps the most eligible bachelor in the NFL to that of a high profile dad. It shows that even the most selfish bachelor's life can change and will do everything for the love of his child even if he has to wear ballet clothes.

This film was very good. The script may not be Oscar material, but it was perfect for a family film and the story while it may not be the most original, still had its funny and touching moments.

Thanks to search engines. Surfing the Internet and finding information has never been easier. What are search engines by the way? For the benefit of those who are new on the web, though I wonder if there is still one, search engines are tools you can use to search information on the world wide web. They create website listings by using spiders that crawl web pages. Although results may vary from one search engine to another, it is best to use search engine if you are looking for specific information, as well as people, items, images, audios, videos news, softwares, etc. Think about words that best describe what you are searching for. The more specific you are, the more likely you will retrieve relevant results.

There are different kinds of search engines namely: the World Wide Web, Meta Search, White Pages and News Group.

The World Wide Web search engines are used for finding web documents. Google and Yahoo are examples of world wide web search engines.

The Meta Search is a search tool that sends user requests to several other search engines and databases and presents them to you on a single screen. Rapidshare Search is an example of meta search.

White Pages services are used for finding e-mail addresses, business listings, and telephone numbers.

Newsgroup search engines can help you find general ideas or discussions on specific topics such as religion, gun control, animal rights, the death penalty, politics or race relations.

Search engines data base are very large thus offering a wide variety and quantity of information resources. They are updated at variable rate and very easy to use.

Off from Blogging

I am not feeling very well these past days. It is very cold in the morning and the heat is scorching at noon time. The weather here is weird and I can't bear it. As much as I want to use the aircon the whole day, I can't because there was an advisory that Meralco will increase their generation charge because of the crude oil increase in world market . It made me feel worst and much worst when RJ went home yesterday and told me that their exam will be on Monday.

Imagine exams on 7 subjects will be on Monday and Tuesday and the pointers were just given yesterday. What do these teachers think of the Moms and the kids, super beings? Supposedly I can finish the reviewers today, RJ needs to study those 7 subjects in just 2 days. Poor RJ, she can't go out and play this weekend because of her inconsiderate teachers. They should have given the pointers earlier.

I will be off from blogging this weekend for I will make the reviewers. I don't know if I can find time to make even one post for each site each day. I am keeping my fingers crossed though.

Meet My Husband

Describe my one true love…hmmm…how would I describe him?

Rhonnel was a shy guy when I met him but when he became my boyfriend, he changed a lot and much more when he married me. I brought out the best in him. He is friendlier now. In fact he has more friends than I do. His 25 godchildren and his hundreds of friends in Facebook are live proofs.

He turns into a monster when he is starving. The refrigerator and cupboard should not run out of food or else you will see his wrinkles the whole day and there should be a dessert after every meal, chocolates or any sweets.

He doesn’t know how to cook. He only knows how to fry, cook rice and boil water, lol! But he is a good taster. He knows what ingredient is missing in a dish. He is a food critic. When he says delicious, it’s really delicious.

He is not ashamed to do household chores like washing the dishes, helping me with the laundry, clean the bathroom and the appliances. He doesn't know how to iron clothes though.

He is a techy guy and very good in computer, be it software and hardware. He’s the one who introduced and taught me a lot of things about the computer and the web. But I can say I know more things about blogging than him, ehehe! At least talo ko sya dito.

He's a big fan of World War II. He has collections of WWII pocketbooks, encyclopedias, CD's of documentaries and CD's of war movies.

He loves the songs of Sitti, Nina, Neocolors and Freestyle. He loves American TV series and only watches news and basketball in local channels.

He is a good provider. He works hard and trying his best to improve our lives everyday. He sees to it that we have all the things we need and want, be it necessity or not.

He is a good father and a spoiler. He is RJ’s best buddy and playmate. They always connive to surprise me and they love to tickle me. Waaah, I hate that!

He is good in surprising people. He loves to surprise me and RJ.

He is a loving husband, a good partner, a great lover. He is everything (for RJ and me).

The Meaning of My Dream

I seldom dream and when I do, most of the time I can not recall what it is. Last night, I dreamed something weird about my family and until now it is clear in my mind. In my dream my family lives in a squatters area and badly needed my help. I asked them to come and live with us. I told them that it will be fine with Rhonnel and that he would understand.

Just this morning, my brother called and asked if I can help them. It seems like my dream is an advance message. I wonder how it can be. Is it just a coincidence?

Based on research, dreams are often distorted reflections of our daily lives. Some researchers suggest that dreams serve no real purpose, while other believe that dreaming is vital to mental, emotional and physical well-being.

Why do we dream? There are different explanations on why we dream based on dream theories. Based on Freud’s theory, we dream to carry our unconscious desires and wishes. Based on Jung’s theory, dreams carry meaning and that the dreamer interpret random signals from the brain and body during sleep. Based on Evan’s Theory, we dream to consolidate and process information gathered during the day. Based on Cayse’s Theory, dreams are our body’s means of building up of the mental, spiritual and physical well-being.

Maybe Freud’s Theory is the best to apply on my dream. I am not in touch with my family for 2 weeks. I am wondering how they are and if they need my help. I have this desire to help them and so I dreamed about it. But how about my dream as an advance message? Can our dream foretell the future? Maybe not, maybe yes, but some experts say it can happen.
