It’s better than at other recent races.”

Reviewing qualifying he added, “This afternoon was a great practice, a great battle, and I was always fast. We made some modifications, improving step by step, but at the end I was just a little bit slower than Lorenzo. Anyway we were very close and I’m happy because I think it will be a great fight in the race.”

Asked whether he was confident of taking his first Barcelona win since 2006 Rossi responded, “It will be difficult because of the temperatures and difficult for the tyres but I think it will be good because we are competitive. We still need to make some small adjustments but we are fast here. The important thing is to get back on the pace, stay in front in the warm-up and have fun in the race. It will be a close battle but we know it is just one of 17 races. It is always great riding here in Barcelona, it gives you extra motivation.”

2009 MotoGP Jerez Spain: The Doctor First Victory in 2009

Valentino Rossi beat host of Dani Pedrosa at the Jerez circuit on the MotoGP Spain, Sunday (2009/May/03). "The Doctor" also get its first victory in this season. Starting the race from fourth position, Rossi break Pedrosa hope to ascend the top podium in front of the supporting. Motorcycle Clutch Problems

Both OEM and aftermarket motorcycle parts have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages. The former may be expensive compared to the latter however, buyers can be assured of its quality since they are equivalent to the parts that are already in the motorcycle when they are purchased. On the other hand, aftermarket motorcycle parts may be cheaper than the OEM parts. Moreover, they can be of equal or lesser quality than the latter.

Whatever motorcycle parts you choose, there is still that degree of caution and responsibility. Let us take motorcycle clutch as an example…

The usual problem with a motorcycle clutch is that it drags or slips. You may be driving confidently then suddenly surrounding circumstances tell your mind to hit the clutch but it won’t work because it slips? What do you think will result? This is pretty dangerous since it can spell a terrible crash, bump or worst loss of life.

To preclude these things to happen, there are several things that we can do. First, you can drill holes in each friction plate. Might as well, clean and chamfer the holes and notches located at the edges of the steel plates. This way they will not slip without getting caught. Then, replace the rivets on inner clutch hub liner with nylatron. In order to do this, you have to remove the hub off the shaft and knock the rivets out. Clean up the surfaces. After cleaning, put the hub and basket on. Now you need not worry about your clutch because these things keep the clutch from dragging and slipping. It will allow its smooth and accurate release.

If you still have slip problems after assembly, before you crank the spring tension, you must take out the friction plates and examine whether there are shiny spots. Friction happens in these shiny spots. To eliminate them, use emery paper and sand off the spots then make the plate flat. When all plates are in good and uniform contact with each other you have a very good chance of running very light spring pressure without slip. Thus, it creates a nice easy shifting at your pleasure and safety!

Keep the clutch always in contact that fact alone can save your ride. Riding worry-free without any apprehensions makes your ride more exciting and fun!

2009 MotoGP Motegi Japan

World MotoGP champion, Valentino Rossi finish second in the circuit Motegi, Japan, Sunday (2009/4/26). That started the race without qualifying session Saturday because of heavy rain yesterday to take the ongoing dry qualifying results from Friday practice sessions.

Not the usual "Vale" to a bad start, this time go directly to Rossi at the front of the start. Rossi is able to lead the race until mid-race before eventually defeated by Lorenzo who is a friend of his team in the Fiat Yamaha Team.

Towards the end of the race lap Rossi and Pedrosa had a fight to grab the second position. It appears that, Rossi still want to give the action on race day with the turnover frequency for the second position. Maximum racing action going on in some of the last curve, Rossi defeating Pedrosa to fight with Lorenzo. The distance between the "X-fuera" with "The Doctor" that reaches over 2 seconds can be pursued only half. As a result, until the end of the race, Rossi is not able to overcome Lorenzo. Finally, Lorenzo and sweep the race followed by Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa at Motegi in 2009.

Meanwhile, the bad start made by Casey Stoner. The Ducati is direct loss of position and fall back to the position of some order. One of which is through Dani Pedrosa, although the Spaniard in the start position 11.

Lubricating Motorcycle Chains

The ideal chain is well-adjusted and lubricated. It must be free from dirt and there is an ample supply of oil or wax to lubricate it.

Most bikes are using O-ring chains. These chains come with links that have lubrication trapped inside the link at the back of O-rings. Lubricating the chains prolongs its life. Nonetheless, you need considerable amount of expert’s advice so as to perfect the art of lubricating. In this case, O-ring welcomes some external lube in order to cut down the friction on the sprocket. This way, the temperature is kept running down.

Nowadays, there is what we call spray lube. It is one of the most practical lube we have today. You need spray it to the chain while the latter is still warm, like for instance after a ride. Let the carrier liquids evaporate. This will take about ten minutes or so. Apply it to the inside of the chain. You can do this by spraying it on top of the lower run and forward of the rear sprocket.

Another alternative is the automatic oiling gizmo. So far, this is the best that I have ever tried. This is often used by bikes which have a drip feed to the chains. However, this is commonly used by those who have fully-enclosed chain systems. Motorcycle stores already have this product.

Whether you are using the old style or the modern alternatives made available by today’s technology, the thing is, we must adjust, clean and lubricate our bike’s chain regularly so as not to be bothered by future discrepancies that can lead to terrible accidents.

Cleaning the chain is not that difficult. You just have to soak rag in kerosene. Do not use petrol when you are using O-rings because this will damage the latter and dilute the lubricant. After soaking the rag, wipe it on the chain. So easy. Just don’t prop the bike on the center stand, start the engine, put it in gear and wipe the rag while it continue running, chances are your rag can be caught or worst it can toggle your hands at your detriment.

Now that we realize the significance of lube, the next query is - how often must it be done? The answer will depend on your riding activities. If your motorcycle is exposed to hard, rugged and dirty ride, might as well adjust, clean and lubricate your chain as often as you can because your ride punishes the motorcycle parts including the chain. On the other hand, a weekly check is good to those bikes which are not used in active and high-performance riding. Bear in mind, that a good chain and sprocket set should do 20,000 km and up.

2009 MotoGP Losail Qatar

MotoGP Series beginning in 2009 finally held in Qatar on Monday was canceled because after the storm on Sunday due to rain which is very swift. When dirt bike racing was in it’s infancy riders wore whatever was available to protect themselves. Open faced helmets, Jofa pants, leather protection… as the protective equipment was not specifically made for dirt bike racing, riders looked more like confused hockey playing bikies than dirt bike racers!

As the sport (best sport in the world mind you :) became more popular, the growth was then able to sustain ‘parallel’ or complimentary manufacturing industries. Companies like JT USA, Sinisalo etc. could now focus primarily on making only motocross gear.

More money was now being pushed into research and development of motocross gear, sponsorship of riders and marketing programs. More emphasis was being placed on style so colour was added to gear to match dirt bike colourings or just to be outrageous and different. Pink was big mid eighties (I did not say it was always in good taste).

Body armour moved to be worn over the top of race jerseys therefore they became more stylised to appeal to users. In itself becoming a fashion statement, but was researched and tested to also be practical and offer maximum comfort. Today’s body armour has ‘floating’ shoulder cups as well as flexible back and side panels to cater for both sitting and standing positions when riding. Can come in a range of colour options including clear as well as built in kidney belts on some models.

Race pants received there own special treatment made out of heavy duty nylon with doubled stitching, extra room in the butt to cater for the crouched/sitting riding position as well as cordura, kevlar and leather panels in high wear areas such as the seat and knees. Knee/shin guards are lighter as well as stronger and some hinder ‘lateral’ movement of the knee (gone are the days of using skateboarders protection). Although with the onset of lightweight, composite materials it is possible to have the ultimate in protection with knee braces.

All this protection would mean nothing if you cannot see. So it is very VERY important to properly protect one of your greatest assets (as well as one of the five senses) in your sight. Different goggle manufacturers have their own registered names for their lenses, but they basically mean the same thing – scratch resistant, shatterproof protection for your eyes.

So next time you go for a dirtbike ride, dress in the latest motocross gear and be comforted in the knowledge that you have minimized risk to your body as much as possible. That will allow you to focus on what you are there for… enjoying the ride!

A leather motorcycle jacket is the perfect choice for riding your motorcycle. It's also a long term investment so you should know about caring for your leather motorcycle jackets. Leather is durable and designed to last a long time with very little effort. Here are some tips to keep that jacket looking great.

How much actual care your jacket will need will depend on how much abuse your jacket takes. How much time it is in the hot sun or how much rain you expose it to will play a role in how much conditioning you'll need to give your leather.

If your leather starts to look and feel dry it's time to condition it. Rain is really hard on leather because it pulls the moisture out of the skin. It's actually a good idea to condition your jacket every time you wear it in the rain.

There are two schools of thought for conditioning your jacket. Many prefer mink oil is a good choice. It waterproofs it by clogging the pores similar to the way Vaseline would. Eventually it will dry out the leather and it may even leave a whitish haze when it solidifies in the colder weather. You can also use a Lexol type leather conditioner for your jacket.

If you don't treat your jacket and protect it from UV rays it will fade over time. Black leather is really susceptible to fading. Use a product like Aerospace Protectant to prevent fading. These products also condition the leather. It's rather like a sunscreen for your leather jacket.

To keep your leather dry use a spray water repellent which will protect you in mild to moderate rain falls. However don't expect it to save you in a major down pour which will soak through the leather. When spraying make sure to spray evenly and let it completely dry, otherwise you will get horrible lines in the leather.

Besides treating your leather jacket you should wipe it down with a damp cloth regularly. This will remove any surface dirt. When you are storing it you need to make sure that there is room all around it so it can breathe otherwise it may dry out.

Whenever you are using any of these cleaners or protectants you need to make sure the room is properly vented.

Never use hair gels or sprays or colognes or perfumes near your jacket. In fact avoid the use of any sprays near it.

If your coat gets wet while you are out then hang to dry where it can breathe but not directly near any heat. If your jacket develops a wrinkle just use a towel and your iron to remove it.

If you haven't yet purchased your jacket look for the best grade of leather you can afford. Always choose a full grain leather and settle for nothing less. It doesn't have to break the bank if you shop online.

Leather motorcycle jackets are as easy as any other leather product to care for and with a little TLC they'll last forever. What a great investment!

2009 Suzuki GSX-R1000

Suzuki has revealed its 2009 superbike, the GSX-R 1000. Prior to its presentation in Paris, the Global Suzuki site had already published the characteristics of this new bike.

The main novelty is the 59mm engine, shorter than that of the 2007 and 2008 models. The wheel base has been reduced by 10mm, and with a longer fork, the weight distribution and traction have been improved. This means the GSX-R 2000 is a more agile bike, and gives greater performance over mixed courses.

The compression ratio has been increased, though Suzuki is not prepared to reveal its secrets here. The bore and stroke has been changed to 74.5mm and 57.3mm (previously 73.4mm and 59mm), and the bike includes a bigger radiator and with a redesigned titanium exhaust.

Forged pistons have been used, from the endurance championship models, while braking is controlled by two 310mm discs and twin radial-mount monobloc calipers.

New styling is designed to reduce turbulence and drag, giving greater riding feel, with a comfortable seat and lighter fuel tank. Other aspects include new multi-reflector headlights and instrument panel.

A little faster, a little lighter, a little more powerful and a little smaller than before. But these are evolutionary, not revolutionary changes. The 2009 Yamaha R1 has its crossplane crankshaft. The 2009 Honda CBR1000RR has ABS.

The bike that caused such a stir by becoming the first three-cylinder machine to enter the Supersport class now weighs in at just 356 pounds and develops 126 BHP.

“Triumph has taken an evolutionary approach with the Daytona by applying experience from racing in the 2008 Supersport World Championship directly to the street version of the Daytona 675,” said Jim Callahan, North American Marketing Manager for Triumph Motorcycles.

“The same technology that was used so successfully on the Supersport racing machines is now available as standard equipment on the 2009 production models that are in Triumph dealers across the country right now.”

The 2009 model’s 675cc three cylinder engine utilizes a rev limit that is 450rpm higher than the 2008 model and features the hydraulic cam chain tensioner and higher ratio first gear. The racing-inspired parts were formerly available as race kit options through Triumph dealers.

The bike also features a lighter exhaust system, a recalibrated fuel injection system and a revised cylinder head with new valves and a modified combustion chamber. These adjustments contribute to a seven-horsepower increase that brings power output to 126 bhp at 12,600rpm. The additional 450 rpm allows the engine to rev to a 13,950rpm redline.

New, lighter wheels give significant savings in unsprung weight and further help the bike’s excellent handling characteristics. A new magnesium cam cover also contributes to the weight-saving as a further benefit to racers and track day enthusiasts.

As could be expected from a bike with a racing pedigree, the Daytona 675 comes equipped with top-of-the-line suspension and brakes. The fully-adjustable 41mm upside down forks and rear monoshock unit both benefit from highly sophisticated high and low speed damping control, allowing riders to set their Daytona up with maximum accuracy.

New radial-mount Nissin monobloc front brakes give even greater levels of stopping power and rider feedback. Even the latest Pirelli SuperCorsa SP tires have been specified for their outstanding levels of both grip and feedback.

But it’s not just the performance that’s been enhanced – the 2009 Daytona 675 has also been restyled with a new cockpit, headlamp and screen. It comes in two color options, Jet Black and Tornado Red, and will come with a full range of official accessories.

The Triumph race kit and a new ‘plug and play’ quick-shifter that are part of Triumph’s genuine accessories range will help assure the Daytona 675 will be competitive on the track at all levels, from club to world championship.
