The 2010 Players Cup Champion Katana is a great disc with a bonus glow feature. Limited run of these were made for the 2010 Players Cup. Rim like a Boss but flies like a Sidewinder on steroids. Also have the Players Cup Latitude 64 Gold Flow and the all black DGA Hurricane. Great gift ideal.

NEW Vibram Ascent driver

From what I've noticed from throwing the new Vibram Ascent is that it is a super overstable driver that is perfect for flick shots. Comparable to the Nuke or Xcaliber. It performs well in wet weather because it is extra grippy. You won't have to worry about this disc getting any weird skips or bounces because of how much grip there is.

Latitude 64 River disc golf disc

Latitude 64 has introduced a new disc called the River which has a stability rating that falls between the Vision and the Stiker. It is available in Opto and Gold line plastics. My tests showed it is a little more understable than the Vision but I was throwing a 168 gram disc. Maybe a heavier weight would be more overstable.

New R- Pro Roc

We will soon have the R-Pro Roc available for purchase. This disc will be very grippy and more flexible than the regular Pro Line Rocs. Considering the Roc is the most respected mid range approach disc we are expecting a very fine response to this new offering by Innova.

New Star Katana

Finally the disc golfing public can get a Katana in Star plastic. Up till now they were only available as Pro Katanas and limited runs of Champion and Star plastic for fund raising purposes. Considering the Pro Katanas have been flying off the shelves because of their exceptional speed and distance, I expect the Star Katanas to have the same characteristics only with more reliability.

New Discraft ESP 1st Run Nuke

It is finally here, has it been worth the wait? Discrafts 1st Run Esp Nuke has been released and is currently being tested around the world. From my personal tests throwing in cold weather and using a winter rusty body I find the results similiar to a Boss. You need a pretty strong throw to get big D. More testing is required but I need warmer weather to do it in. Darn, that means I have to play more Disc Golf!

Pro, Champion, and Star Katana

The much awaited and talked about Katana from Innova Champion discs is now available in three types of plastic. The Pro Line Katana is now a regular run and can be purchased wholesale and retail at regular prices. The Champion and Star Lines are made in limited runs and are Fundraiser discs and are priced accordingly.

The weather has been so cold I haven't had much time to try them out but the few times I've thrown them, they seem to have the same long flight characteristics of a Sidewinder or Roadrunner, only further. Against the wind they will curl to the right for a right handed thrower. So some hyzer adjustment is required. Low wind or with the wind throws should travel further than any other disc. I need more practice with it to pull it out of my bag during competion though.

Katana disc golf frisbee

There is a new disc out that promises to help some players with their disc golf game. The Katana disc golf frisbee is a recommended downwind driver. If you hit the angle right, watch it bolt out of sight. The physical characteristics resemble a Boss with flight characteristics of a Sidewinder on steroids. So if you are looking for a driver that will give you extra distance in your Frisbee golf endeavors this might be worth checking out.

New Innova Disc Golf Releases

Innova Champion Discs has released two new products for the disc golf world in the last month that are well worth checking out. The Champion Groove is a fast high speed driver that has the same 13 rating as the popular Boss. The Groove has a indentation like the Monarch on the underside of the outer rim. The Boss was hard to make in a lighter weight and this innovation gives customers a choice of a lighter weight disc with a very high speed that will not skip to the left as drastically as the Boss does. A great disc for players that don't need the overstability that the Boss provides and yet provides long distance capabiliies.
The other disc that Innova has added to their arsenal is a putter called the Dart. The disc is aptly named because it flies very straight. It is made out of a gummy plastic reminiscient of the Millennium Omega Super Soft Putter. It is available in the Pro Line and is rated 3 for speed, 4 for glide, 0 for turn and fade. It holds a straight line without falling off for extra accuracy for those long distance putts. Every disc golfer owes it to himself to check these two new discs out. It just might lower your score.

Choosing the right golf disc

When a new player starts playing disc golf or frisbee golf, their first question usually is "what is the best disc for me?" Looking at the different companies' disc descriptions one is led to believe that every disc listed is the best disc for their bag. Here is a secret, there is no "magic bullet" that will improve your game overnight. Disc golf technology has improved over the years with various high end plastics and designs but it still is no substitute for practice and technique.

A beginning player should focus on practicing with a disc that is easy to control. Usually a disc with a wider rim that isn't too flat is a good start. Also there is no need to buy the higher end plastic right away, because the more expensive the plastic, the more overstable the disc is and the faster it will fall to the left. Why buy the expensive disc when the chance of losing it is very great when you are learning to control it? The less expensive plastic is easier to control and more models are in the lighter weights that beginning players should start out with. Heavy weights do not mean more distance, it usually is the opposite. Check the various companies Disc Selection Charts and Flight Rating Systems out to learn about the various flight characteristics of the various discs.

Players should try a midrange approach disc or putter and practice accuracy and control while focusing on their technique. Understable or stable discs that I would recommend for beginners are the Aviar XD, Shark, Hawk, or Buzzz.

Hello everybody! Hope 2009 is a good year. Kinda glad 2008 is over. Fear of high fuel prices has been replaced with fear of losing your job. I don't know which is worse, but my gut tells me it's better to have a job.

Speaking of which I finally got rid of one of my jobs this fall when I sold my other business. Now I will have time to focus on our disc golf business, play in more disc golf tournaments, test and research new products, and write and monitor this blog.

My goal for this blog is to have a format to communicate with customers and disc golf junkies. I will write product reviews, give some disc golf tips, and tell some disc golf stories obtained from 24 years of playing this great game.

Hopefully other members of our Discs Unlimited sales team will post some comments and stories from time to time also. So you will never know what you might find when you come here. Hopefully it will not only be useful, but also fun.

This is something new to us so we are learning as we go. Feel free to jump in at any time.
