"Your Pet Turtle" as Your Profile Picture.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;People that know me, know that I love&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;animals. They're adorable, but don't use a picture of your pet to represent YOU.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffcc66;"&gt;6. The "Far Too Serioius" Profile Picture.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;A research study conducted on LinkedIn&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;revealed that people who smile get 28% more followers. Anyway, who wants to do business with Danny-Downer?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffcc66;"&gt;7. The "Trying to be Goofy" Profile Picture.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;Until you have successfully branded&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;yourself, put away the goofy hats, props, clothes, and antics. Don't broadcast the wrong kind of message.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ffcc66;"&gt;8. The "Blank Photo" Profile Picture.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;This is the worst disaster of all. Most often, people&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;simply won't connect with people who don't post profile pictures. Or make friends?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p  style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Answer this question honestly.  Why would someone try to get thousands of followers on Twitter or cram a gazillion friends on their Facebook roster?  &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 204, 102);"&gt;Does anyone need&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 204, 102);"&gt;more than 2 seconds to think&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 204, 102);"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;strong style="color: rgb(255, 204, 102);"&gt;about it??&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="font-family: georgia;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Most people I pose this question to give me the same old cookie cutter response -  "I'm making friends and building relationships."  No, you're not.  You're building a LIST.  And everyone on your list can look forward to receiving ads (in one form or another) for your products, services, or business opportunity.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="font-family: georgia;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Is there anything wrong with that?  Of course, not.  Anyone who produces a weekly ezine, for example, absolutely needs to have a LIST of subscribers to mail the darn thing to!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="font-family: georgia;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;strong style="color: rgb(255, 204, 102);"&gt;Seriously, folks, is it humanly possible to "build relationships" with thousands of people?&lt;/strong&gt;  The last time I checked, I had only two hands, two feet, one voice, and 24 hours in a day on my clock - and that's not nearly enough time to maintain relationships with my own children!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="font-family: georgia;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Some marketers are being led down a dead end road by being told that they need to work really hard on building relationships with their prospects.  Oh, brother.  There's only one thing and one thing only you need to do with prospects - Find out if your business opportunity and/or products are right for them.  That's it.  Nothing more.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="font-family: georgia; color: rgb(255, 204, 102);"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Does that mean you should be rude?  No.  Insensitive?  No.  Disrespectful?  No.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="font-family: georgia;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;You should be polite, professional, and conversational, but crystal clear on your objective. This can be accomplished quickly and effectively by asking a few simple questions. A relationship with a prospect does not need to linger on for weeks or months.  That would be time consuming, labor intensive, and downright ridiculous.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="font-family: georgia; color: rgb(255, 204, 102);"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;So let's define relationship building in network marketing.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="font-family: georgia;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;The people that you need to build vibrant, healthy, lasting relationships with are the people that join you in your business or become your customers.  &lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 204, 102);"&gt;That's when the&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 204, 102);"&gt;relationship building begins.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;  These are the folks that deserve your time, energy, and effort in getting to know, like, and trust you. Not me! Now I begin the process of "recycling" that article and using it in many different ways. The last thing that I would want to do is to submit an article then write an entirely different blog post, tape a YouTube video from scratch, etc.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;As smart, and often time-crunched, marketers we need to use our time as efficiently as possible. 'We are sensitive to positive social signals... we want to remember people who were kind to us, in case we interact with them in the future'"(p. 61). I lived in a rural area in Pennsylvania and the high school was several miles away. The first week or two of shcool, I noticed that the bus driver made a point of getting to know each and every one of us on his route. Then he would begin the process of assigning seats.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;color:#000066;"&gt;Trust me, there was a good reason for getting the right people in the right seats on the bus!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;The bus driver knew better than to put the &lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;known rebel rousers&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; in the back of the bus. He always made sure they occupied the front row seats so he could keep a close eye on them. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;The &lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;serious, &lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;saftey-minded students&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; were seated near the rear exit door. He trusted they would stay calm and know how to open the door in the event of an emergency. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Any &lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;band &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;members&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; carrying bulky instruments were given aisle seats. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;The rough, bumpy ride made a few &lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;motion-sensitive people&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; nauseated, so he would assign them window seats (I'll refrain from explaining why).&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;color:#000066;"&gt;As your network marketing organization grows, are you focusing on getting the right people in the right seats?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;In other words, have you figured out which downline members to assign your valuable time and attention to? Who do you need to keep a close eye on? Who can you trust to work independently and diligently without a watchful eye? Whose fires are you constantly putting out?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;color:#000066;"&gt;A full day has only 24 hours and you've only got two hands, two feet, and one voice.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;Begin by doing what my school bus driver did. Spend time getting to know your downline. Come to the realization of who your producers and business builders are and assign them the best seats. These are the folks who qualify for your time, energy, and effort.
