My dad always used to tell me "You can buy any number of books you want,Anju...NO LIMITS".My childhood was filled with stories that were Indian,Russian,Fiction ,Adventure,Horror and what not!!I used to read everything under the sun.And when my Nandu was born I wanted the same for her too.Maybe, she might have her own passions but I didnt want her to miss out on the very best of experiences that world of books could offer.

So, I started to read her a story a day right from when she was 6 months!!But Nandu used to listen. She used to love those coloured pages. When she became 1, I started taking her to a nearby book store.Kept talking to her about all those wonderful authors ,those beautiful book covers, the smell of a new book and she just listened. And like my father, I have always mainatined "Nandu...when it comes to books ..NO LIMITS"!!!

Nandu started loving the world of books and I started to panic as her hunger for books increased.I started checking for any alerts on a BOOK SALE ,took library memberships and I started to realise that I wasnt just Nandu ,it was me too .I was hungry too!!

My frequent book store visits made me realise that amidst all those glitsy glossy pricey foreign books, there were unnoticed ones!!The ones by Indian authors with stories about our culture, those values that set us apart from the rest of the world, the beauty of our land and nobody wanted them. They were just sitting at a corner unnoticed, not that they were highly priced, infact they are very very cheap. They just lacked the glitter and gloss and those designer illustrations.I just fell in love with them.

From then on,I started to look out for them.We have many talented Indian Authors and their work in IndianChildrens literature, I must say ,is very undervalued.Indian Publishing houses like Tulika,Pratham,NBT,CBT etc dole out simple, neatly illustrated books with great content and morals.

I call upon all mommies to just have a look at them and lets ust give it a try shalln't we ??
