You may have tried many tweaks like modifying windowsXP start-up applications, prefetches, unload DLLs method,etc. And yes those methods do work for me. I have just accidentally found out another way to give you an extra boost in windowsXP's boot performance. This is done by disabling your unused devices in Device Manager. for example, if you don't have input devices that are connected to one of your USBs or COM ports, disabling them will give you an extra perfromance boost in booting. Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab -> device manager Disable devices that you don't use for your PC and then restart. 1.Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). 2.Locate the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\MemoryManagement\PrefetchParameters 3.Make sure you backup the keys by exporting them to a .reg file. 4.On the EnablePrefetcher value, change the setting from 3 to 5 (decimal). 5.Close the registry editor. 6.Restart your computer

I’ve been running Windows 7 HB for a little over a week now and can’t imagine going back to Vista/XP at this point. In the process, I went searching to see if there are any interestingWindows 7 power toys or tricks available. While I didn’t find any power toys, I did discover that some tricks are available on Windows 7.

Here is a quick summary of what I’ve found so far for Windows 7:

Window Management

Win+Left Arrow and Win+Right Arrow: Dock a window to the left or right half of the screen.
Win+Shift+Left Arrow and Win+Shift+Right Arrow: Move a window from one monitor to another, keeping them in the same relative location to the monitor’s top-left origin.
Win+Up Arrow and Win+Down Arrow: Maximizes and restores/minimizes a window.
Win+Shift+Up Arrow and Win+Shift+Down Arrow: Maximizes and restores the vertical size of a window.

Taskbar

Ctrl+(mouse click on a single application icon in the task bar): Toggle through each of the open windows in order. The best example of this is Internet Explorer. If you have five tabs open in a single IE instance, holding the Ctrl key while repeatedly clicking on the single IE icon in the task bar will toggle through each of the five tabs in order.
Ctrl+Shift+(mouse click on an application icon in the task bar): Launch that application with full administrative rights. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+Enter for commands from the search bar for the same action.
Shift+(mouse click on an application icon in the task bar): Launch a new instance of the application rather than switching to the existing application. (You can also middle-click with the third mouse button or scroll wheel.)
Win+1 .. Win+5: Launch a new instance of the any of the first five icons on the task bar. (By the way, the icons can be reordered to suit your needs by simply dragging them around and can be pinned shortcuts or running applications.)
Shift+(right mouse click on an application icon in the task bar): Show the Window menu. (You get different menus depending on whether the application is running or has multiple instances open.

Miscellaneous

Win+P: Display the project options, which you can then use the arrow keys (or keep hitting Win+P) to switch to the different options.

Win+X: Open the Windows Mobility Center.
Win+G: Bring gadgets to the top of the Z-order.(Sets the focus to a gadget.)

Working with Photoshop isn't that easy for both beginners and advanced users. There are times when applying a simple effect to your image can be so much time consuming. What follows is a list of often used(and much abused tools) tools and their shorcuts to make working with them second nature-we don't want to handle our tools clumsily while unleashing our creativity, do we?

1. H (Hand Tool) — When zoomed in to a portion of your photo, this command brings up the hand tool which allows quick panning.
2. B (Brush tool) — The brush is an extremely useful tool when working with masks, and I’m constantly using this command along with the hand and zoom tools.
3. Sift + B (Cycle through Brush tools)- Use this shortcut to bring up a list of other tools in brushes palette.
4. Z (Zoom Tool) — This command brings up the zoom tool, which allows you to zoom in.
5. Ctrl + 0 (Fit to Screen) — This is a command to get the entire photo in front of your eyes.
6. Ctrl + Z (Undo) — Very useful for going back one step...umm, mistake.
7. [ (Decrease Brush Size) — Decrease your brush size to get into tighter spots.
8. ] (Increase Brush Size) — Increase your brush size for the larger spots.
9. Shift + [ (Decrease Brush Softness) — Decrease the softness of the brush by 25%.
10. Shift + ] (Increase Brush Softness) — Increase the softness of the brush by 25%.
11. Tab (Hide/Show Palettes) —With this you can show or hide your all palettes and take a quick look only on your picture
12. 1->0 (Tool Opacity) — Pressing any number from 1 to 0 gives tool opacity from 10% to 100%.
13. Shift + 1->0 (Tool Flow) — This works the same like the opacity changer, but you have to hold the "Shift key" while you hit the numbers.
14. Ctrl + Tab (Next Point on Curves Adjustment) — you can place multiple points on the curve and adjust them accordingly when using the curves adjustment dialog. Use this command to switch focus from point to point without moving them around.
15. Right click (Brush Presets) — Right click on the image to bring up a list of brush Presets
16. E (Eraser tool) — Brings up the eraser tool.
17. Shift + E (Cycle through other tools in this group) Use this to Cycle through other tools in Eraser tools group this group.
18. R (Blur tool) — Brigs up the blur tool
19. Shift + R — Use it to cycle through other tools in blur tools group.
20. O (Dodge tool) — Brings up the dodge tool.

Well it is a very simple process to do all you have to do is
1.) Go to Start > Run
2.) Type msconfig and hit enter.
3.) Now move to Boot.ini tab and check on /NOGUIBOOT option.

4.) Click Apply.

For some elder geeks here is a different procedure to do the same
1.) Right-click on My Computer > Properties
2.) Navigate to Advanced tab, and press the Settings button under the Startup and Recovery.
3.) Click the Edit button and look for this line

Make sure to install a firewall and anti-virus app on that new PC of yours. As you know, the built in Windows Firewall is just not enough. I recommend you get either AVG or Avast. They offer the best protection in the industry, and more importantly, they are freeware.

OpenOffice

Hide your file in Notepad..

Another Old but great Notepad trick, not exactly notepad one but the Windows one. I can't add a big intro of this method just try it out.

1. Open Command Prompt. Start --> Run --> CMD

2. Get to the directory Where you want to save the hidden file.

CD --> to Change Directory
MD --> to make Directory

once done. proceed further

3. Type down following command.

notepad:filename.txt:hidefilename.txt

yes we are creating two files.

4. error pops up Cannot find filename.txt:hidefilename.txt, Do you want to create ??
obviously yes

5. Type your message to hide and save and close.

You have done the hiding task. Lets check did it worked or not. Visit the folder with your windows explorer. Oh man theres only one file named filename.txt where the hell is hidefilename.txt is ??? its hidden. Lets open Filename.txt (to check your message ), This file is blank !! Party but where is the hidden text ?? its in Hidefilename.txt You can type any text in open notepad file. it will be saved in filename.txt. and using command prompt, notepad filename.txt:hidefilename.txt will give you hidden file.

Well thats simple and sweet from Windows.
