Felix Hernandez(notes) threw a wild pitch and handcuffed his catcher for a passed ball in the first inning.  With all that movement, he knew things would be all right.

Wow, were they. Hernandez pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11 to follow Cliff Lee’s(notes) gem, and the Seattle Mariners secured their first road series win since April, beating the New York Yankees 7-0 Wednesday night.

Anna Kournikova continued her campaign for relevance on Graham Norton’s show after her match with Martina Hingis at Wimbledon.  The Russian tennis beauty was a guest on the show along with Katy Perry (see her segment from the show here).  But the best part of her appearance (video here) may have been her walk from backstage to her seat.  I think you might agree. It’s worth noting that she said that there are no plans for her to marry Enrique Iglesias any time soon even thought they’ve been together for eight years.  So you’re tellin’ me there’s a chance…

All of the talk is about LeBron going to Miami and Chicago lately.  While New York and New Jersey have been getting less buzz, it seems as if King James is really trying to figure out if he’s a New Yorker or not.  James has been around the city for about the past few days enjoying everything the best city in the world has to offer.

Earlier this week, he joined Jay-Z (is that even legit?) and Beyonce at the Waverly Inn in the West Village.  That wasn’t his only adventure in the city.  Over the weekend, James checked out the USA-Ghana game at Serafina on 61st street.  He took in the game from a seat in the corner with three body guards.  And don’t forget that he was checking out a multi-million dollar Manhattan pad last week.  For all the talk about LeBron splitting money with Wade and Bosh to go to Miami or Chicago, James certainly seems to be taking a long look at New York.

LeBron James managed to silence a packed restaurant as the US crashed out of the World Cup. Soon-to-be free agent James wandered into Serafina on 61st Street on Saturday as the US battled Ghana. A spy told us: “When he walked in, all you could hear was his name. It was like the game was paused. He requested a table in the corner of the grill, and sat with three bodyguards and a table of six. While nobody approached him, a number of guests suddenly had to use the restroom, presumably to sneak a peek.

Landon Donovan was on Letterman last night.  His possible love child and move to Europe were not discussed.  The pair discussed his game-winning goal along with some basic soccer rules.  After a rather boring interview, he and Dave attempted to kick soccer balls into moving taxi cabs.

I actually think the lackluster interview was due to Letterman’s laziness — and this is coming from a huge fan of the show.  Letterman even set up Donovan to tell the story about his game-winning goal… by talking about the wrong game.  In any case, it’s still impressive that Donovan was invited to appear on Letterman since the team didn’t really improve on its past performances.

One thing they definitely did not discuss is Landon Donovan’s future.  He’s currently under contract with LA Galaxy of MLS but could be primed for a move to Europe.  Donovan played in England earlier this year when he was sent on loan to Everton.  His performance in the Premier League along with the World Cup have landed him on the radar of big teams including Manchester City.  Man City has gone on a spending spree since being bought by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008.  Donovan could be the newest player in the Blues star-studded lineup next season.

Big spending Manchester City are weighing up a move for USA midfielder Landon Donovan.

Mega-rich City watched the LA Galaxy midfielder during the World Cup and were hugely impressed by his loan spell at Everton last season.

City are determined to rebuild their squad this summer as they look to complete a £20m deal for Barcelona outcast Yaya Toure.

They remain keen on Aston Villa’s James Milner and are hoping to complete a big-money move for the England midfielder.

But City also checked on Donovan and Portugal’s Benfica winger Fabio Coentrao, 23, who is also attracting interest from Europe’s big guns, including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus.

Isiah Thomas let the world know that he thinks LeBron should go to New York.  The shamed former head coach of the Knicks was speaking to a panel about diversity in sports journalism at Indiana University when the made the comments.  I was not aware that he was a member of the Knicks’ all-star “wooing committee.”

File this under: things we don’t think will influence LeBron’s decision to come to New York.  King James can’t possibly be inspired by Thomas’ short stint in the Big Apple.  But maybe he’ll take the advice to heart if he wants to end up at FIU.

Ex-New York Knicks coach Isiah Thomas thinks LeBron James should go to N.Y. via ESPN NY:

The New York Knicks fired Isiah Thomas as coach two years ago, but he still hopes they cash in during the LeBron James sweepstakes.Thomas said Tuesday that he thinks James should continue his career in the Big Apple.

“Go to New York,” Thomas advised. “It’s the biggest stage.”

Thomas, who led the Detroit Pistons to two NBA titles and is in the Hall of Fame, said James’ presence in New York would be good for the game: “I think that the interest in him in New York and in the league and everything else would just take the NBA to a higher level.”

Thomas, now the head coach at Florida International, made the statements after participating in an Indiana University panel discussion about diversity in sports journalism.

I didn’t catch the match on television (if it was even on television) but Anna Kournikova and Martina Hingis played “veterans” doubles together at Wimbledon.  The duo managed to beat Brits Sam Smith, 38, and Anne Hobbs, 50.  Kournikova and Hingis are both 29.

The two hadn’t played together in over 8 years and captured two Australian Open doubles titles during their run.  But the reunion may be short-lived.  Kournikova seemed to have offended Hingis with her post-match antics.  The Russian may have been hogging the spotlight a bit.  And her PR tour continued on an interview show with Graham Norton later that night (we’ll have that post up later.
