Have you ever wonder just how many articles and blogs are written each day? Honestly no one really knows. I have read that in recent studies some claim perhaps 50,000,000 a day. And I am not exactly sure where the line between blog and article cross or separate.

But the number is really not that important and the fact is the number is gigantic. But how many are being read and how many are having an impact? That too is impossible to measure in some ways, although there are tracking programs that can give you an idea if you were to type in a specific site. So to get a number of each site and the posts that are on it would never happen.

So what does this mean to article and/or blog writers? Well frankly the totality doesn’t matter. What should matter is whether you are being read.

Some may ask however, “if there are so many millions of things to read, doesn’t that affect whether my posts are being read?” Logically speaking, yes that is true. Practically speaking, you can’t worry about that, but, there is something you can do about it though.

“Really?”

Really, really! Regardless of if your writing is a fun hobby, a side job/project, or a job you can do things to help your cause. And it can be summed up in one word: Be Professional.

“I don’t work for a news organization” you say ? Or you may say “I am not qualified to be a professional”.

While in a technical sense this may be true that is not what being professional means in the bigger picture. Yes you may not have a degree in journalism or be an English major. That does not mean you can’t be a professional in your writing and blogging.

Now depending on how serious you are, you may give careful thought to taking writing and writing related education. But that is only part of being professional in your Internet writing and blogging. It is a collective effort and concept.

Being a professional Internet writer and blogger is a matter of doing all the things that are necessary to get your article or blog on line and presenting it in an inviting manner. Of course there are levels of marketing that are important also.

So ask yourself, how thorough am I in seeing my writing all the way through from writing, presentation, to marketing? Do I write the best article I can? Do I review the creativity level, the relevance, and the captivating power of your writing? Do I make an honest effort to use good grammar and proper spelling? Do I work at my craft?

Do I understand the options I have of where to place my writing? Do I know that there options? What do I know about the Internet and putting up a web site? How do you market a web site and/or your article? Where do you learn how?

Do I realize that being professional will make me standout, even among the millions of other writers ? What more can I do to be professional in my Internet writing and blogging?

Remember beyond improving as a writer, focus on consistency, being fresh and current, relevant, accurate, interesting, creative, detailed oriented, do the small things, and stay on top of the entire strategy. While it is perfectly okay and normal to write for your own expression and enjoyment, readers will respond if you do it for them also.

And honestly that is part of the challenge and fun of writing, knowing how to balance the two. You need to look at a potential audience as customers. Your writing is a product. It is a form of entertainment. True people read to gather information they ultimately read to enjoy the experience.

In order for them to enjoy your writing they need to know it exists. That means you need to know how to make that happen. Then they need to be lured in with a pleasing presentation. That can be on your site or another appropriate site. Last but not least the article needs to be well thought out and well written.

You know what? This may seem like a daunting list of boring and arduous tasks but it really doesn’t have to be that way. Being professional is more rewarding than many realize. And you can do it. You will be glad that you did to!

The fact is water finds the path of least resistance. Although that could mean running off of a cliff also but usually running water will give you some guidance of how to get out of the woods or off the mountain.

But in real life the path of least resistance is not always the best way to success. In fact it may seem easier but often it makes life harder and your goal harder to reach.

In previous discussions we have stressed the importance of being patient and sticking to the plan. Logically that means the plan was well researched and developed. But there is more to success than patience. And it has to do with being professional.

We are going to apply the idea of professionalism to the various Internet businesses we discuss here over a series of articles but first let us just take a moment and stress the value of being a professional.

Being a professional does not always mean you are a big player or that you make an enormous amount of money. But it does mean you are knowledgeable, reliable, in demand, trustworthy, and you get the job done right.

Let me give you an example. I have many, many years of experience as an owner and operator of a janitorial business. In my years of cleaning professional offices I have had many encounters with construction companies. Now years ago many construction companies had the luxury of hiring quality workers because they could afford to pay them and offer them benefits.

As a result the work was done to satisfaction and there were very few issues with the people that did the work. Over time you could tell things were changing as a result of the quality of professionalism began to decline. For example in the past before work was done construction crews would take time to prepare the environment for a mess that was about to be made. Then at the end of each day the crew would clean up the area and any other area they were in.

This left a certain trust and reliability to their work. Over time crews were filled with less qualified workers because the economy made it harder to pay a true professional. As a result some things as seemingly simple as being orderly and clean began to disappear. Ironically this led to a distasteful feeling and to more problems.

For instance, say a construction company was fixing a wall over top of a work desk area. Now picture there is an employees desk with needed books and publications carefully placed on their desk. Now in years past a construction company would move the desk or cover the desk so that nothing would get on it. But over time that became disregarded and more and more companies were letting things fall all over the place including the desk and the books and so on.

As that became a pattern the onus of cleaning the mess fell on me. Which of course I did clean up the mess. But I also would charge them for it. Which made the client even more upset because in essence they were paying for the cleaning twice. How is that? Because the company who owned the office and hired the construction crew was fully aware of the fact that part of what they are paying the construction people to do is to clean up after themselves. But the lack professionalism made the construction company simply disregard that. And while I am an accommodating person, I was not going to do free work that someone else was being paid to do.

What is the point of this real life illustration? This attitude and lack of professional decorum has permeated society and all types of business. Including the way people handle their web endeavors. Don’t let that be you!

Ironically the lack of professionalism in general can turn out to be a benefit for you. Because your professional ethics and reputation will wet you apart from the other Internet business people who are to cavalier about being professional.

In fact like our opening illustration they try and “cheat” success by being lazy or trying to blitzkrieg the market. Many even resort to spam and other unprofessional means. But those people are not successful. At best they may gain a short lived accomplishment.

Now it is important to realize it is tempting at times to try and find non existence shortcuts. But remember in the end the professional will stand out. It is the cream rising to the top concept. Or the wheat and the weeds syndrome.

When you plant wheat it is inevitable that weeds will grow among your crop. But it is interesting that the weeds that grow in among wheat looks exactly like the young wheat sprouts. So farmers allow the wheat and the weeds to grow together until the wheat stands out among the weeds. And then they will get rid of the weeds so that the wheat will continue to mature to a healthy crop. The lesson here?

Perhaps for a short time you will not stand out above the spammers and your unprofessional Internet peers. But in time they will be exposed or flame out. But that also means that you have to be the real deal. At the end of the day you are either wheat or a weed. And that is ultimately up to you.

So let your attitude and your performance show that you are a professional and that you are reliable. Yes you take care of the small things and the big things. You go the extra mile and you “clean up your mess” when you are done. Yes you finish the job and do it right.

For example on verse is about a sign that says Help Wanted and that long hair freaky people need not apply for the job. And the fictitious verse continues by saying that a long hair gentleman tucked his long hair up into a hat and went in to apply for the job. He apparently gets hired and then he reveals his long hair, as if to suggest that the company would have not hired the same guy if he did not hide his hair.

There is naturally some truth that you can’t judge people by their looks. However at the same time the song fails to communicate another reality. You cannot deny that we are sending out a message about ourselves by how we present ourselves.

So whether we like it or not people are going to respond to the way we present ourselves to them. The same is true in our Internet business. Regardless of if we are relying on that business for our bread and butter or if it is just a hobby.

Take the making and selling of Arts and Crafts for instance. Clearly there are many people doing this full time but just as clearly as there are many doing this for a hobby. Regardless the question is, what do you want out of it?

Of course it is safe to assume you are looking to have fun. And that is fine. Even if that is the only thing you want out of it. It is likely though that if you have gone to the point of selling your items than you have moved beyond the fun only motive. After all, if it is purely for fun only why bother trying to sell your items?

That said by selling your items it may allow you to get more involved with your hobby or it may turn out to be a nice income. So why not analyze your approach to the whole project. Are you getting the most out of it?

Chances are that many of you could gain so much more just by polishing up your presentation. Yes be more professional. Which by the way, does not mean you have to be a full blown company. It simply means putting a vibe out there that you care about what you do and you are thorough with how you do it.

It means in your case that you will be attentive to what people want. You will try and accommodate orders and have them done when you say it will be done. You will also have no problems getting them their purchase in a timely and reasonable fashion.

It means you are not going to come across like you are doing them a favor and that is really a burden on you to sell them an item. It means you are going to answer questions as well as you possibly can. You will be honest with them also.

For example if you can’t do something for them you will unashamedly tell them you do not feel that you can deliver what they want. Or you could offer a possible compromise or alternative. Nevertheless you will be absolutely sure that you are going to get them something they will want and enjoy.

It goes without saying if you are honest and reliable you will not misrepresent yourself or anything you do. Your web site and web information should be easy to follow and up to date. I can’t tell you how shocked I am at the companies who don’t keep there web site current. And guess what? I don’t buy anything from them. For starters I wonder if that reflects their attitude on other things.

And so it goes with all of these things. Sure there are people who probably don’t care enough to be turned off but why take that chance? Why not separate yourself from the other companies that are lazy and sloppy about there work?

Now some wonder will this suck the fun out of doing it? Does it take away from my personality? If the answer is yes to either of these I would love to hear someone explain how. Be professional is not being robotic or deceptive. Deceptive as in looking the part. Because both of them are unprofessional.

In fact don’t bother putting out the right vibe if you truly are not going to finish the experience. Have some pride in your craft and in your field. The reality is as the rewards increase so will your fun!

Isn’t a great feeling to be able to come to someones rescue? Especially when it is an area of your expertise. And guess what? You don’t have to sit around and hope someone needs your help. Because the landscape is chock full of people who need your help. Especially via the Internet. That is your cue.

Yeah, we live in a do it yourself world and there are plenty of assistance programs. But in the end there is still quite a demand for virtual assistants and independent freelance services.

The fact is that more and more companies are turning to VA’s or contractors. For many this is a way to cut the expense of an in house staff. It also allows for the hiring of someone who specializes in the area of work that needs to be done.

Hiring a VA brings many benefits all around. Overall the bottom line is you usually get a professional result and you do not have all the obligations that go with having an employee. And the fact that VA’s can do much of their work via the Internet opens the market. You can offer your services worldwide for instance. And vice versa, companies can seek VA help from the world over at competitive pricing.

Considering that the VA covers areas from word processing, database management, and Internet research to medical and/or legal transcription gives you an idea of the scope of the business. But that is not all. Many VA’s do things like email marketing, bulk mailings, reminder services, information processing, and the like. And many are adept in web design and development. And then you have VA’s that provide event planning and meeting set ups including Internet meetings.

And there are VA’s that provide desktop publishing, editing, writing, and bookkeeping services. The best part is that if you capsulize all of this together you can see why the demand is growing for most of these services. Yes the stock is up in the Virtual Assistance and Independent Freelancer.

According to some reports I saw, VA’s claim to make an average of $25 an hour. Of course that varies on what services you provide and the area in which you are providing such services. For example a company in New York City will probably be prepared to pay more than a company in Fargo, North Dakota. And it may also depend on you competition to some degree.

For example if a company is Internet savvy and regularly uses Internet VA’s from around the world they will have a broader base to draw from. And people from various countries will desire an income relative to the country they live in.

For instance I have a friend from Florida, USA that uses a Virtual a digital illustrator from Argentina. For starters he is very, very good and he is very reasonable because he is from Argentina. Of course all of this is part of the learning curve of using and being a VA or any other type of independent Internet service provider.

The irony of this business is that the changing and fluctuating economy is pointing a neon arrow into the direction of hiring a VA. And for those who understand what it means to be a professional you will stick out even more so.

Yes the harsh reality is that a percentage of people offering virtual assistance are lazy, unreliable, and have a poor work ethic. This only makes the professional all the more desired and sought after.

Hey don’t take my word on this. Take some time and do a little search engine search of your own. See how the VA market has expanded.

Which leads us to another angle. You successful VA’s out there you may be missing out on an opportunity. Yes do you know there are qualified and top notch workers out there that are bad at finding work. And here you are turning work down because, well, you are just one person. LIGHT BULB!

Why not find some of those valued workers and sub out some work to them. You can make a few greenbacks just for getting them work. And check this out. When you want to take some time off you will have someone or someones to farm out some work to so that you don’t get behind or totally lose out on income! Yeah baby!
You see how all of this comes together? It’s a virtual no brainer. You just need to do your homework and also upgrade your skill set to fit the demand or demands. Oh and there are plenty of places to get the training needed as well as how to learn to market your services.

In the United States the job market has plummeted to canyon like levels. And all of this led to a tumultuous economic landslide. As a result the effects reached around the globe. So how are we doing now?

Frankly the global market is still sputtering and rumors of recovery are just that, rumors. Oh there has been signs of positive improvement but there some of that has been a result of individuals, families, and businesses taking a new look at how to manage money. Yes the old practical approach. And that is not a bad thing.

Now while adjusting our money management procedures is very effective finding solid employment, a supplemental income, and business opportunities is always a step in the right direction. Thankfully the Internet is one of the few areas that has stayed the course even during this economic coma.

Now it is true that the Internet is not a cure all and not everyone is going to be successful with it. Frankly that is not your concern. What? You know what, sometimes you juts have to stick your nose to the grindstone and you ear to the ground and remain focused on your own goals and objectives. The persistent bugger is the one who will have a legitimate chance to cash in on the Internet opportunities.

Not too mention that the rising stock across the Internet business landscape is favorable for many of us to get on board. Yes it is like being a train traveling passenger waiting on the platform at the train station. The next train is coming and it is on time. And the demand has put more trains on the schedule. What am I talking about?

It’s a metaphor my friends. The fact is that the demand for Internet jobs and/or business continues to grow. For example let’s check the stock and pulse of the Internet Research field. Let’s do it.

As we have discussed before one area the demand for Internet research continues to grow is in the entertainment and broadcasting world. Particularly in the sports broadcasting industry.

You see many sports generate enormous revenue. A large percentage of the interest in sports revolve around data. More specifically in the part of sports called statistics. Closely tied with stats is sports history. Frankly many times the 2 are much the same. Both require research to deliver the data and in a timely manner.

For example the other day I was listening to ESPN radio as I was going about my morning routine. Now ESPN, also dubbed the World Leader in Sports, is a juggernaut and on the cutting edge of sports entertainment. Their radio network is no exception, it is a part of their rule.

Notoriously however radio business barometers lag behind television indicators. So keep that is mind with the following note. As the popularity grows, ESPN continues to try and make their product that more desirable. On the ESPN morning radio show they now have a hired Internet gun. Yes they have a guy hired and paid well to perform timely and thorough Internet research. “So what” you say?

Wait, did you just say “so what?” This is not a so what situation. No this is a “that’s cool!” situation. For this is a sign of things to come. For this is one example of how Internet research is becoming a practical need and demand in our world. This means jobs in the Internet research field.

How do we know this? Because as we pointed out the ESPN example is just one of many. In fact it is one of many just at ESPN. Anyhow let’s consider another. The local car dealer.

Oh yes, the Internet has become quite the sales tool in the auto sales industry. As a result most car dealerships are staffing an Internet team. It includes Internet contacts but also people who read customer requests and do the research necessary to respond. And these are becoming reliable and lucrative jobs. And they are popping up in many areas.

Internet research demand continues to increase in the legal and medical fields as well as the sales and entertainment industries. What does this mean for you?

It means that the researcher out there needs to put a good resume together and start canvasing for a job. This also is an invitation for the freelance/independent business mind to offer his or her services in this area. Which would include areas of virtual assistance also. See how this all blends together so nicely?

Conspiracy theory is always out there. From the 9/11 tragedy to the shooting of JFK there is an underlying question about the details of historical events. It includes business tactics and the accusations of manipulating a market. A prime example of that is in the global oil industry and trade.

Well over the last 6 months or so, in spite of taking pre cautions, my computer has been ravaged 3 or 4 times with a serious malware invasion. Yeah I know many of you are saying “boo hoo, deal with it”. And I understand that sentiment to a large extent. In fact I reluctantly agree. And I am dealing with it.

So what is my beef here? Let the conspiracy begin. But wait this is not about my personal gripe, this is about the burgeoning market of Internet security and security software. Yes indeed and this can be a good thing for you.

The fact is that Internet security software is an enormous business and especially among the largest percentage of the Internet user market. That would be Microsoft and their Windows Operating System. And regardless of how many updates and new releases, Windows OS continues to have security breeches and issues. Not always the major issue I have been experiencing but nevertheless the issues are there.

As a result many of us have purchased and installed free and/or purchased security protection. Many of us have also learned more about how to find malware “hidden” among your programs and you have learned how to get remove it.

People! Listen up! The stock is up in the security software business. This opens the door for many people. Especially if you are major league programmer and understand the Internet/computer relationship. Whether you help install or design these programs the demand is clearly increasing. For many reasons.

1. More people are finding that they need some kind of protection be it a firewall, anti virus, anti spyware, anti malware (in general), linc scanning, email scanning, identity theft, and etc.
2. The contemptible fools that find some perverted pleasure in ruining your computer continue to grow in number.
3. The race to stay ahead of one another is intense. The battle of good and evil rages on
4. The competition among security software is also quite a challenge
5. There is opportunity for some income on many levels

I personally think there is another level to consider. Why are these invaders so successful? Are these so called “hackers” just this genius? I don’t think it is that simplistic.

One things that disturbs me is that the malware I have experienced infiltrated the security components that were provided by Dell and Windows. That irks me to no end! Uh oh here it comes.

I am not a conspiracy nut but I often wonder if Windows and others do not have a symbiotic relationship with security companies. The money is prodigious and super-colossal and therefore hard to turn a blind eye too. However the notion that the system providers like Windows help malware to make its way to the inner workings of your computer is very disturbing. And yet it would not surprise me.

We already no that many so called “free” items that are downloaded come with little surprises like spyware and the other types of suspicious malware. Which first of all I do not know why most of this stuff is legal? Not only does it disrupt your system but why should anyone be allowed to monitor what I search from my computer?

The point is somewhere in here I see a challenge to the software program wizards. Yes imagine the money that could be made if you developed and/or designed a monster killer? Imagine if you took the challenge of creating the ultimate security software program? Can it even be done?

And how about this mind blower? What if you could develop a security software that could definitively find the source of the malware and immediately retrace the direction it came from. And the icing on the cake would be if your program could in turn destroy the malware and create a disruption for the conniver who sent it out.

Maybe you are the next programming stud that can offer real protection to the millions of innocent Internet users. I sure hope so.

But whether you are the hardcore designer or fit in somewhere along the “food chain”, don’t kid yourself, the demand is there and the stock is up!

Back in the 1960’s in the USA there had already existed a Professional Baseball league called Major League Baseball. In fact the MLB had been in existence since the 1800’s. By the 1960 season the MLB was made of 2 co-existing leagues made up of 7 and 8 teams each for a total of 15 teams.

This allowed approximately 40 players per team at the Major league level when you figured in a roster and players who replaced injured players. This added up to 600 MLB level players, give or take some depending on injuries. As of 2009 there are 30 teams and now 1200 players, give or take some.

The point is that in the opportunity was only attainable for those 600 or so but as time moved forward and demand for talent increased more athletes had a chance to reach the pinnacle of the sport of baseball. Not too mention that as the Major League developed the minor league system also increased in size and became organized. This all culminated in more employment opportunities for aspiring baseball players.

Looking at the practical side of the big picture we should keep in mind this reality. Even though more athletes can play at the Major League professional level than before, it is still a field, (no pun intended) that is open athletes who posses a high level of baseball skills and the work ethic to achieve at a high level.

Certainly baseball is not alone in this reality. In fact let’s talk about Internet web development and web design. For like baseball this is an area that has shown a rising stock and an increased demand for talented workers.

Turning back the clock we can indeed recall a time when there simply was not as many web sites as there are now. Naturally that meant there was not as much of a need for web designers and web development as the Internet was in its infancy years and plainly was not as inviting of a field to enter. But that quickly and steadily changed as the Internet became an integral part of society.

Clearly today the Internet is a huge part of life. Business, communication, interaction, news, entertainment, and self expression have all made their mark via the Internet and well designed web sites. All of this has made the need for more web designers and web developers increase dramatically. What does this mean for you?

The fact is that many of you may have web design or development skills. And like our baseball analogy the market is there but it does require skills and qualifications. And like athletes you need to be willing to work at learning and applying those skills.

Make no mistake about it though just take some time to do some search engine analysis. Type in any variety of topics and see how many web pages appear in any given search engine result list. Randomly investigate the sites that are reviewable. Notice the various and diverse designs across the web.

There are similarities and there are differences. There is simplicity and there is complexity. There is colorful displays and there are more generic displays. It is all a part of the web design industry and its success. And you can be a part of it. How?

Whether you get hired by a web design company or start your own you will need to be creative, professional, and reliable. The options are growing as we speak. Again you can see this for yourself.

Once again I invite you to search the Net and you will witness the growing number of web designers and web design companies out there. And don’t let this discourage you either. For it does not mean there isn’t a place for you.

Remember our example of Major League Baseball? The fact that the team rosters are filled does not scare away young up and coming athletes from making a roster. They simply try to outwork and outplay those ahead of them.

And yet there is more promise in the web design world. For the “roster” keeps growing and the opportunities are increasing. But make no mistake, you will still need to cut the mustard. Just because there are more and more chances to break into the design field doesn’t mean you will. But it definitely means you can if you do your part.

Yes the stock is up in the web design business and it is now your turn to do the preparation and work. You can be among the next crop of web designers putting their thumb print on the web design world!

How many of you saw the film “The Perfect Storm” based on a true life fishing boat tragedy? Let’s see your hands people. Aside from whether (no pun intended) you thought the film was good or bad the story was fascinating nevertheless.

The reality of the event was a culmination of natural phenomenon and human frailty. The basic story was a storm had brewed out of merging storms to make the mother of all storms. Which this is called the perfect storm since it is the convergence of multiple weather conditions that rarely find there way to meeting each other and creating the ultimate storm. But when it does happen it thankfully and usually happens in the open seas. Which brings in our fisherman.

The story behind them was that they were in need of a big catch and they started doing well for themselves. They started getting greedy as a result and following their dreams of more. But there pursuit of the fish led them into the area where the perfect storm was brewing. The rest was a total disaster and a complete tragedy. However this can story can also have a happy ending. What?

If you were paying attention you would have seen the perfect storm building in the E-publishing and as a domino effect the E-reader sales. Oh yes, the flourishing and growth of the Internet has been the perfect storm. Yes the communication “front” has met the corporate “winds” and the marketing “high pressure” system has jumped in with them. Then you add the independent “disturbance” and you got the explosion of activity we see on the web.

Publishing has been truly amped up into a perfect storm. Random House reported that ebook sales have increased three fold in 2009. Some publishers project sales to reach over $9 Billion by 2013 based on the demand now. The US Trade Wholesale study has ebook sales ending at just around $17,000,000 and by the end of the 3rd quarter in 2009 reaching over $45,000,000. Stock up baby!

These numbers are for the USA alone: From 2002 Through 3rd Quarter 2009!

Part of why his is the perfect storm is because of the E- reader. According to Forrester Research sales of E-readers rose from 1,000,000 in 2008 to 3,000,000 in 2009. And the research was done before 2009 had ended!

Now at the slim chance you don’t know what an E-reader is, it is basically an digital “player” for books. Yes you can by an ebook and have it loaded onto your E-reader and “presto change-o” you’re good to go! The E-readers like music players can hold a number of downloads.

The payoff for purchasing an E-reader is the convenience and the cost. E-books are often less expensive than a traditionally published book. Plus you are can carry a small library with you wherever you take your E-reader!

This perfect storm gets better too. For it impacts the writers and the sales force out there. This can include the areas of freelance writers, e-tail sales, and e-publishers. All of you pursuing these fields should be ecstatic. And anyone pondering whether you should get into the market should take notice. The stock is up and rising. Believe that.

So what does this mean? Well I am sure you figure that out already. The fact is the Internet had already opened up a brand new world for writers and/or publishers. Yes be it a story or a full blown novel there are more and more web sites that will assist you in publishing. Regardless of whether you are simply posting you creative work for on line reading and/or for downloading the opportunities are increasing.

This available in host publishing sites or in on line companies available to help you in self publishing. Your writing can be fiction, non-fiction, tutorial, informative, and so on. The demand continues to grow and so does the accessibility of publishing. The easier it is for you to publish combined with the ease it is to purchase is a perfect storm for us freelance writers and/or publishers.

For those in the e-tail market you may look into carrying a product like the E-reader. It is a wonderful item and appealing to all ages. In fact the Internet has rejuvenated peoples interest in reading and the E-reader has only compounded it many times over. Now while there is no guarantee in the trading of commodities that doesn’t make it untouchable either. In fact many of the tragic stories come from greedy investors and greedy brokers. The E-trading market helps avoid that.

In a nutshell here is the net impact of the E-trading market.

• It can reduce costs of transactions – cut out the bottom feeding brokers or the high priced “experts”. Now this does not mean that a trusted broker cannot or should not be solicited. It does mean that you don’t need them for everything you once needed them for.
• Liquidity – a broader market and electronic transfers allow faster and more efficient deals.
• Competitive edge – With access to a world market and the ability to by-pass the exchange floor it makes a more competitive trade market.

With the increased desire to use the Internet as a forum to trade there has been a “can’t beat them so join them mentality.” Yes many brokers and insiders are jumping into the business. Which is fine but also a reason to do your homework.

People who are truly successful and make a living in the stock market are patient and methodical people.

Maybe you don’t have a clue about the market but you may be a strong developer of web sites. Yes maybe you are good with algorithms, charts, data tracking, and so on. E-trading sites are always going to be looking for better graphics and easier methods of reviewing trade information and stock performance. This may be your gig.

There also is a market for writing reports and doing research in the commodities and stock trading field. So when it comes to starting, managing, or building an Internet business we should notice valued trends. Yes all trends should be noticed. Often times in the Auction world though there is diversity. In addition this can be the case with a variety style E-tail site. But let’s look at a couple of “hot” items that are taking the web by storm. An item right up on the top or near the top of the list may surprise you.

Information sells people! Yes providing “how to”, or even more traditional information is an enormously successful seller on the Internet. Perhaps in the form of your own subscription web page or a down loadable e-book. Maybe you provide a software program or a digital recorded product. You could offer a newsletter or periodic reports. Any form is a viable product. Why?

• Low cost to develop .
• No shipping and handling.
• Immediate access for customer.
• Nothing to physically store or create a tangible inventory for.
• Available 24 hrs a day.
• Your sales are automatically tracked.
• And if you have no information to sell, it is not as hard as you think to find it.

According to an e-commerce tracker these were some trends to be aware of:

• Software, flowers, music, books, videos, made up 26% of Internet sales. Regardless of the numbers the point is these are “hot” items.
• Reservation type sales are big. Airlines, hotels, and car rentals make up 21% according to the report.
• Office type stuff like office supplies, computer hardware, consumer electronics is 16% of the Internet sales pie.
• Jewelry, home decorative, shoes, apparel are 13% of the market.
• Beauty, health, and food/beverage takes 8% of the lions share.
• Games, sporting goods and toys are a solid 7%.
• Appliances, furniture, gardening items, and tools make 3% of the market.

Again keep in mind the percentages are according to that source and I have no way of confirming the accuracy. But the general list is consistent with the majority of lists out there. These are the items leading the charge. You could use the numbers as general ranking of what is being demanded at present. Also keep in mind the pie is giant so even a few percent of Billions of dollars is a large market.

Remember, that you are not required to sell only items on this list. But you should know what the trends are. The fact is the Internet shopping pool is getting bigger virtually everyday. Yes more and more people are jumping into the mix. More and more people find it easier and more convenient to shop on-line.

This bodes well for everyone wanting to sell items as an e-tailer or an auctioneer (i.e eBay, Amazon etc). And if you have products that are in somewhat lesser demand?

Again let us stress that there is plenty of wiggle room here. For example note that musical instruments is not on the top list. But believe me they sell fairly well on-line. When you get down to it trend tracking is a layered process.

Yes indeed it is. You have the preliminary stage, which we began here for you, and that is taking a big picture look of what is going on. Then you need to examine closer the niche you are interested in. If you plan on covering a variety of items then you need to go into each specific product and see what the trends are for that product. You still with me?
You got homework to do people! Don’t just take a casual stroll through eBay or across e-tail pages. Research your ideas and the products you were thinking of selling. You can even research ideas or suggestions. And believe me there is a boundless amount of information out there to review.

You need to be systematic however. Concentrate on the various aspects. For example: (Not in any special order)

• Product ideas.
• Product launching.
• Product availability.
• Product delivery.
• Product shipping and receiving.
• Product popularity and demand.
• Product marketing.

Look you may have a career ahead of you or a supplemental income. But the on-line trends are telling you that the stock is up in e-tail and auctioning. Why not check it out?
