<p>Think about the times when a new product came along and yet it took a while for you to embrace it. As time passed and you finally got used to the new and improved way of doing things, you eventually got a laugh or two out of how you resisted it. </p>
<p>Yes I said resisted it. Maybe not consciously but you definitely failed to change with the times at the rate they were changing. Example?</p>
<p>How about the calculator? Yes if you are old enough you are laughing right now. You, like me, are recalling moments when you were doing your check book going over the numbers with a painstaking attention to details. Checking and double checking to make sure it all “adds up”. And then suddenly &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;. </p>
<p>You look up and there it is sitting on your desk top. It&#8217;s that thing they call a calculator. After a big sigh and hand slap to your head you think to yourself “I know, why don&#8217;t I use this machine designed to do all of this for me”. And there you have it. </p>
<p>In time, after repeating the above scenario a few times too many, you have your calculator ready to go and with you immediately when it&#8217;s time to balance the old checkbook. </p>
<p>Or how about the good old days when you still used your typewriter to work up some documents? And then if and when you needed copies you went to a local store that offered copy services or had a copy machine for your needs. The awkward moment came when you realized how much easier and convenient the word processing program was in your home computer. Not to mention the convenience of a printer connected to that computer. </p>
<p>Yes even in the days of crude processing and a dot matrix printer it was so much faster and easier than the typewrite and copy routine. However, again like me, there were times you were on your typewriter and at some point you thought “why am I not using the computer?” went off in your mind. </p>
<p>Face it we could make a list of things and circumstances like this where it took time before you thought of the latest technology or concept as your first option. In fact it takes some people longer than you would think possible. The Internet is no different. </p>
<p>For instance think about the number of people who still use dial up for their Internet connection. No kidding. While even those among us who are at the back end of the change group consider dial up as archaic and obsolete there are still many who use it nevertheless. </p>
<p>Seriously this happens. Let me give you an interesting comparison. The digital scene burst onto the scene over 20 years ago. By the late 1990&#8217;s the idea of a digital only broadcast was inevitable.  At one point the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), a broadcaster regulating commission in the United States decided to pick a time when all broadcasting signals would be in digital only. They chose Feb 2009 as the time when all signals would be digital. </p>
<p>This would have a major impact because there were still many people who still had a television that received an analog signal. And an analog TV will not receive and display a digital signal. </p>
<p>Now keep in mind the advent of cable TV had long been established and millions gradually embraced it. Similar to the examples of technology we used as examples earlier in our discussion. However tens of thousands had still not switched over. In fact some people procrastinated so much that the FCC even bumped the deadline back to June 2009 because of such an outcry from the procrastinators. </p>
<p>Just to spice the story up a bit, I should also point out that the US Government offered a $40 voucher toward the purchase of a device that would convert the digital signal so that your old TV could show a digital broadcast. So you didn&#8217;t even have to buy a new TV, you could just buy the “box”. The lesson? </p>
<p>There are always many among us that are slow to change or worse yet slow to take advantage of change. Now I am not saying that change for change sake is good. However we all need to learn when change is good. So what should this mean to you? </p>
<p>Ironically there are many, including some really smart people, who are not in full stride with the digital world. Many of us are not thinking of the Internet in the mindset that we should. Some of us are excited about the Internet or except that it is valuable but we are not on full board. And I can&#8217;t figure out why.</p>
<p>The million dollar question is not how do you view the Internet, it is does the Internet enter your mind immediately when we are conducting a business? </p>
<p>I address this question first to people who do not consider their business as an Internet business. In your business maybe your terrestrial store, publication, or service demands your approach first, as it should. Frankly in the times we live the Internet aspect should naturally be included. I am still surprised at the amount of businesses that discount the Internet presence. </p>
<p>Case in point I just saw an interview with a famous musical artist from Ireland name Van Morrison. Born in 1945, and getting into the music industry as early as the late 1950&#8217;s. George Ivan Morrison became globally know over time and has had some very popular hits. In this interview however he was very uninterested in the Internet aspect of music sales. He even said he had no plans of renewing his contract with download giant I-tunes. Morrison was adamant about “not being a download act”. Whatever that means.</p>
<p>Now he did claim that downloads made up a very small portion of his music sales, which is not a surprise for a few reasons. 1- his attitude tells you he puts absolutely no thought into how to be a download artist and 2 – he sees the Internet as beneath him in some way or that the Internet is evil in some way and  3 – his career was past its peak when the download market exploded</p>
<p>Honestly I believe he is missing the point. Times change Van Dude, you don&#8217;t sell much vinyl anymore either but that doesn&#8217;t stop you from selling good old fashion records. And you sold 8 track, cassettes and then CD&#8217;s featuring your music, what is wrong with taking it to the digital market with the same aggressiveness? </p>
<p>Part of the problem also is apparently as he got older he stopped buying music so he thinks his fans are like him I guess. For in the interview he swore that he only listens to music that predated and/or influenced him, which is clearly his prerogative. But really Van. Lighten up my man and let the youngsters enjoy your tunes in the format they prefer? </p>
<p>In the end, Van can do whatever he wants as any other business person can. And Van has made a nice living despite his wise or unwise business decisions. However you may not want to agree with Van the Man when it comes to the Internet. </p>
<p>The fact is the Internet is prominent and only carving a deeper trench into society. You will have to get on board eventually so why not get on board full steam now? </p>
<p>Yes, take some time and re-examine your Internet approach and your Internet presence. Don&#8217;t just gloss it over like many do. The fact is if you are, you are missing the digital impact and potentially the ability to maximizing your market.</p>

<p>A recent credit card commercial tries to demonstrate the dangers of hidden charges or needless charges from other credit card companies by pretending the card holder is being ambushed by some outlandish form of intruders. For example one features a group of frenzied Vikings attacking an unsuspecting card holder. </p>
<p>Just as the invaders are about to pounce on the unsuspecting victims, the ‘would be’ victims display the advertised brand of credit card and the attackers are foiled. “Good thing they had the “right” card is basically the message. </p>
<p>The tag line at the end is “what&#8217;s in your wallet?” Today, in this discussion, we have a similar lesson to learn. And we will pick up our discussion from Part 1 of freelance work to point out that lesson. </p>
<p>Let&#8217;s re-visit the commercial again for second however. Part of the underlying message is that most people assume a credit card is just another credit card. Many feel they are all the same. And/or that it doesn&#8217;t matter if you look into the details of how each card company handles their accounts. The moral of the story that if you don&#8217;t review the contract, you never know what could happen and that you won&#8217;t be ready for it. </p>
<p>My friends of the freelance world, guess what? This may be your lackadaisical approach to your services and your Internet freelance business. Is it? Or how do you know if it is or isn&#8217;t? </p>
<p>The first way to tell is to answer this question. “What is in your tool box?” No, not the tool box in the garage, the junk drawer in the kitchen, or in the trunk of your car. No, what tools do you have for your freelance business? </p>
<p>For example maybe you are a freelance writer. Do you have the right tools to perform your job in the most efficient and productive manner? Are you aware of what tools are available? </p>
<p>As always we start with recognizing there is a certain value in education and experience. Not necessarily college or special high school courses. Of course those are viable options. However doing some research and study in journalism, storytelling or creative writing could go a long way. Knowledge and then experience = an important tool. </p>
<p>There are of course many article writing software programs available also. These programs will help you learn things beyond the actual writing; how to submit and market your work, for example. However, many of these programs can also help improve our writing. </p>
<p>Do you know of places to submit your work? That is also a basic and valuable tool. Do you have editing abilities or the tools to help you? A real life editor may be your answer also, but by all means understand that you can learn how to use editing tools. </p>
<p>Are you more of a data person? Then are you aware of the software and other tools available to be a top grade data researcher or compiler? Do you have the speed capabilities to help you succeed? </p>
<p>Maybe you are a copy writer? Maybe you are a script writer or a story teller? A blogger? Doesn&#8217;t matter. You still need the tools. </p>
<p>You need SEO tips and practices, marketing ideas, as well as using the fancy schmancy applications that go with it. What kind of writing are you interested in or what type of writing would you be willing to do? </p>
<p>As we previously addressed there are many directions you can go. In addition to writing sales, scripts, blogs, or stories there is also journalism, product reviews, tutorial, or informative writing. Again you need a platform for this. </p>
<p>There are tools that help you to locate work or create opportunities for your writing. Just as there are programming tools that can enhance your writing. Including tedious tasks like spelling and grammar. Sometimes the spelling and grammar checks in your “word” or document writer are not very extensive. Not that they are bad or not helpful. If you want to step up your writing however, you should consider a more thorough tool. </p>
<p>Among the tools you acquire don&#8217;t forget the business end. You should have items like a letterhead, a nice invoice, contracts, business cards, rates, references, work samples/clippings, phone &#038; fax machine, and a program to maintain your accounts. </p>
<p>I would also suggest that you use something like PayPal to receive and send money. In fact since the Internet is the key to your success and the hub of your work, you could perhaps streamline much of your activity and relegate as much as you can on line to free up more business time on line. </p>
<p>For example order your supplies on line and do as much shopping on line as you reasonably can. While we are on the time subject consider this. Time is another vital tool you need. Make sure you use it wisely in all phases of your operation. </p>

<p>I showed up at the rehearsal with my guitar and rig. My rig consists of my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, my Line6 PODxt, and my Shure58 Beta microphone. My guitar is a 1997 Les Paul Studio. My purpose in being here is to audition to play with a band in need of a temporary guitar player who was in an accident. I am a hired gun.  </p>
<p>As I set up and we get ready to play, one of the band members looks at me and asks “dude why doesn&#8217;t your guitar have strings?” </p>
<p>Could you imagine if that really happened? Do you think I would get many gigs if I did that? </p>
<p>The fact is you may be guilty of this with your web business. Let&#8217;s take the freelance entrepreneur as an example. He may have some knowhow and some ambition but does he have the tools to do the best job possible? </p>
<p>Yes the tools for the Freelancer and his gigs are as important as all the things I mentioned above for a guitar player trying to get some jobs with a band. </p>
<p>Now there are many tools out there. So part of your job is knowing what tools you need. Then it is a matter of getting them and using them properly. </p>
<p>Naturally there is quite a diversity in freelancing so obviously the list of tools is not an exact science and yet there is a general direction in which to head. Just like a keyboard player would not bring exactly the same items as a guitar player. And yet the principle is the same. And as you can see we are breaking it down into a couple parts to cover the basic concept. </p>
<p>So let us throw out a few examples. Let&#8217;s say you are a freelance web designer or developer. What&#8217;s in your toolbox? </p>
<p>Most likely you are armed with some education and experience. You undoubtedly have created or use a publishing platform. You perhaps are versed in computer language and coding. For example you could have the use of HTML down. You would benefit from any number of software items as well. </p>
<p>You could also make wise use of a variety of plug ins and add ons. Things like macro media flash players for example. This would include graphic tools and applications. You should have a variety of colors and fonts to choose from and use. </p>
<p>Have you ever heard of web design tools like “Fireworks”, “Dream Weaver”, “Adobe Photoshop”, “Panic Coda”,   or “Firebug”? Do you know and use “Accessibility tools”? Do you know and use “color tools” and “Cascading Style Sheet tools”? How about “Validating tools” or “Informational Architectural tools”? </p>
<p>How about tools related to linking? What about the use of any of a number of miscellaneous tools that could be classified outside of the categories above. Like an SEO Analysis tool for example? </p>
<p>What if you are a just a freelance artist? Things like Photoshop, or any number of graphic tools would be a must. Good scanning ability would be just the beginning for you. And of course you have many direct illustrating tools available. Yes you can draw on a device that immediately displays your art work on your screen. You thus can skip the scanning phase if you can master the art utensil directly connected to your desk top. </p>
<p>Illustration and art is often linked with skills like animation and other high end graphics. All of which has a market rich with software and accessories to do your thing. Do you have those tools if you perform such services and skills? </p>
<p>Of course we can include freelance jobs like photography, video, and audio specialists in the mix also. These jobs also have some awesome tools at your ready. Along with tools like Photoshop and other magnificent photo programs you have a amazing editing tools for pictures, video, and audio. And so on.</p>
<p>If you are a game designer, a straight up video, or audio producer there is a software “buffet” out there. In a related area this is great news for musicians and recording engineers trying to freelance their skills in the recording business. Just look up a program called Pro Tools. Many if not most professional studios are equipped with this software and the additional tools that go with it. </p>
<p>The intriguing thing in the freelance world is, another valuable tool is one another. Yes often times freelancers are profited and benefited by one another. </p>
<p>Take for example our first example of a web designer. It is not uncommon for a web designer to seek out the assistance of illustrators or photographers. Or perhaps they need some music or video they want to add. You get how this works now? . </p>
<p>As we pointed out this is just part of the freelance world. We can revisit this some more in a future discussion. On the meantime get busy! </p>

		<title>If I Only Knew Then</title>

<p>My dad often tells me how he had some nice shares of some stock that he sold that later went through the roof in the 1980&#8217;s &#038; 1990&#8217;s. Of course in the late 1950&#8217;s and 1960&#8217;s most people did not consider the potential of those stocks. Frankly many stockholders did not envision the skyrocketing growth that occurred. </p>
<p>And of course there other variables that prevented him from keeping his investments in hold. At the time he needed the small return that was gained at the time. Which he has no regrets about. But there is a lesson to be learned from all of this and the many similar life experiences that are related to finance and business. </p>
<p>So let&#8217;s take the lesson and apply it to our Internet business. In fact the Internet adds a variable or two to the mix. How&#8217;s that? Before we get to that let&#8217;s review the overall lesson and how it relates to our Internet business. </p>
<p>Using my dad&#8217;s story as the object lesson here the message or principle is clear. #1: you must make sound decisions in the present and add #2: consider the realistic potential of the future. </p>
<p>#2 is the part that my dad regrets. Although he made sound decisions in the present he wishes he had spent more time calculating the changes that were ahead. He wishes he had developed a longer range plan to account for the now and the future. </p>
<p>This is important in our Internet business. Regardless of what our niche, market, or area of expertise we clearly need to work for the best immediate results but also have a long range plan. Now some of you are saying right now “no kidding goof ball, who doesn&#8217;t know that?” </p>
<p>The reality is my dad said the same thing back when. Yes understanding the concept of planning ahead and planning ahead are two different things. Think about it. </p>
<p>For one there is that point we made about the added variables the Internet brings. Part of the long range plans need to constantly be given contingency plans and/or adjustments. Why? Because the Internet is still evolving. And as much as we try to project what is coming we will never foresee everything that is coming. </p>
<p>That said the more we learn about the Internet and what its capacity is now, the more accurate we can be about where it is heading. With that in mind be ready for the changes as they come. What does all this mean? </p>
<p>What it means is that you should literally write out a series of goal and strategies. You should have a plan for the month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 3 year, and 5 years out. No really, you should. Notice that you are making goals and strategies. What&#8217;s the difference?</p>
<p>The fact is that you will probably not reach all of your goals but you should have a high success rate with your strategy. Yes your goals are things you wish to attain or a level to reach. Your strategy is how you are going to get there and more. Your strategy will also include the grunt work of your business. Yes details are important. </p>
<p>And part of that will include analyzing the present state and the potential future state of the Internet and your business. How can you prepare for the growing Internet? What can you do now to make the transitions seamless? </p>
<p>Successful people are not usually surprised by the future they are usually changing with it. Of course there is a need for patience and practicality. Do not try and manipulate or guess the future. Yes there is always risk with some parts of business. Certainly the example we used of the stock market is proof of that. But the stocks that my dad refers too were very predictable in many ways. I am not suggesting that anyone could have foreseen the extent of the rise in the stock. But there is no question that the companies involved had a clear path of many years of growth in front of them. </p>
<p>Now the Internet is not risky at all. The specific business you are in will have its own degree of risk and gain. You need to figure that out. It really comes down the more you put in the more you get out. But that has the reality of being organized with it. </p>
<p>Just starting out in your Internet business? Have you had a web page for a while and you aren&#8217;t happy with the results? Or maybe you have yourself a nice Internet business and you just want to keep it going or develop it more? </p>
<p>Then take time to regularly write out your plans of attack. Again make specific goals and strategies for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, and 5 years out. And follow them as well as adjust them as needed. Make sure you allow study time for following the trends of your business and the Internet is general. Make note of certain patterns that point to future change and possibilities. </p>
<p>And the end of the day don&#8217;t get caught saying “if I only knew then”.</p>

<p>Have you ever got to that point when you stop and ask yourself “so should I keep doing this or not?” The fact is that everyone has and we all will a few more times in our life. It&#8217;s the inevitable “is it worth it” moment.  </p>
<p>And what makes this question and the answer to it so important is that we all know that time is of essence. We all know that it has been said that “time is money”. </p>
<p>So what if we are investing our time and perhaps even our hopes of making money on an Internet business? How do we know if it is merely a matter of waiting it out only to fail or if it is an investment? Can we know the answer to that question? </p>
<p>First of all one thing that we do know is that there are many among us out there who are successful in the Internet business industry. And there are certain consistencies that we have to accept and understand. Here are the main ones you should be aware of. To be successful in any Internet Business you must know and apply these methods. </p>
<ul>
<li>SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a must. This entails having a working knowledge of the Internet and how to make the most of marketing through maximizing the search engine process.</li>
<li>Web Site marketing. Going beyond the search engine you can market your web site by other proven methods. It will include applications of concepts like affiliate marketing, traditional advertising, cross promotions, email promoting, on air interview promotions, and so on are some of them.</li>
<li>Using a variety of Internet tools like HTML. It is not mandatory to use all the technology and methods available but you should know your options and which tools could be most effective.</li>
<li>Know your business and your target audience.</li>
<li>Be patient and have realistic goals.</li>
</ul>
<p>So if you are not doing and applying these applications then you are wasting your time. You are playing a useless waiting game. Very few things in life just develop automatically on their own. Think about it for a moment. Take something as basic as a child growing up. </p>
<p>A child is born and put into the care of preferably his or her parents. The reality is that a child that is born will grow physically without much help from anyone and they will naturally learn some lessons in life from observation and experience. However it is ultimately going to depend on the nurturing and guiding care of those responsible as to what kind of adult this child will develop into. Yes the more patience, loving care, timely discipline, and mature guidance the child receives over there malleable years the more successful the child will become. In the end it will have been an investment and not a cross your finger meaningless waiting game. </p>
<p>Elementary speaking this is the way you need to approach your Internet business. Like it&#8217;s your baby! You can&#8217;t expect your child to go from birth to walking in a couple days. It takes most children about a year before they start taking their own steps. </p>
<p>Ironically many thriving Internet entrepreneurs will tell you that it will take at least a year before things start to show progress in your Internet business. Let me be clear that is not some kind of rule. Many people have made money fairly quickly and others have taken longer than a year. I just threw that in there because it seems to be an overall average. </p>
<p>The basic point is not to fixate on a date or a specific amount of time however. Nevertheless you should realize that time is needed. Time is part of the investment. Beware! Time can also be wasted if you do not invest the appropriate amount of time into the things mentioned above. </p>
<p>This is where it gets complicated to a small degree. Depending on what type of Internet pursuit you are cultivating you may have to decide if it is worth investing some money in addition to your time. And that is a difficult question to answer. Because the spirit may be willing but the wallet may be weak. </p>
<p>One way to resolve this issue is to realize that all business require some sort of financial commitment. Usually an Internet business doesn&#8217;t demand nearly the amount of capital of other small businesses. What if it is a matter of being broke? And we all know what that feels like.</p>
<p>The key is identifying how much resources are needed. It may not be a lump sum. That would be another factor to put into the decision process. Then what? </p>
<p>First of all once you determine a ball park figure of what kind of financial commitment is involved then you have to examine your financial standing. At this point it may be a matter of doing the best you can with the little resources you have, which may be nothing at all. But that&#8217;s okay. Do the best you can with the methods that do not cost you anything and pour your heart into it. </p>
<p>Of course in the meantime you can develop ways to earn investing capital or become a better money saver with the goal of putting away some money to apply toward an investment in the future. Maybe you can find sponsors or investors? Nonetheless do not give up or let the lack of money at present to let impatience and discouragement set in. It&#8217;s just a matter of investing more time, which by the way will still produce results, again, if you use your time judiciously and efficiently of course. And as you get some money together to invest be prepared to apply it to the most productive use. </p>
<p>Imagine 13 months from now. You have your Internet business going and your web site has been up for some time. Things are going a little slow and the results seem lackluster. Is it really worth it to keep going? Am I wasting my time waiting for something that isn&#8217;t going to happen? Or is this part of an investment that is building a rewarding Internet business? </p>
<p>The answer to that can be more than answered. It can be determined by you. </p>

<p>How many times have you watched an infomercial and said to yourself “yeah right I bet that product does that”? </p>
<p>Objectively speaking, the over the type cheezy sales pitch is an attack style ad hoping to influence a compulsive and impulsive buyer to phone an order in immediately. And the philosophy is to “get the sale anyway you can”. And it is often successful. </p>
<p>But when the product falls far short of customer expectations and/or the purchase experience is disappointing, you are establishing a “doomed to fail” scenario for yourself. No one can survive being “less than advertised” over the long haul. Yes you can make some money initially but the lack of professionalism is going to catch up and bite you in the buttocks. Is this what you want?</p>
<p>Sadly it appears you have this type of approach going on in the Internet recruiting scene. For example many subscription or member sites offer recruiters a “finders” fee for getting people to join their site. Of course there is nothing wrong with this. There is often a problem however. </p>
<p>Too often these sites do not meet expectations and leave people very upset and out of a few bucks. The site often makes promises that simply are not realistic or the site has a theme that does not meet the initial description. At times included in this scenario is the difficulty of terminating your subscription. Sadly that&#8217;s not all. </p>
<p>Usually linked to these experiences is an unprofessional effort in the recruiting style, everything from false and/or misleading statements to spamming sprees. There are even extreme examples of people resorting to hacking into your Internet server and intercepting your efforts to go to a desired site and sending you to sites that they may be receiving pay per click compensation for. That is obviously sinking to one of the lowest levels possible to recruit people to a web site. And at times the sites are of a racy nature, as in pornographic, which many enjoy but many do not. So it is nice to have chosen the site as compared to being taken there against our will. </p>
<p>But it does not have to get that level to be considered unprofessional as we have already explained. So the question what are your recruiting practices?</p>
<p>There are of course various levels and multiple types of recruiting too. Naturally if you are involved in corporate recruiting you already know how important it is to put your professional foot forward. But it doesn&#8217;t hurt to have a reminder and examine our approach to be sure we are doing just that. </p>
<p>So ask yourself “am I” thorough in my research of potential recruits? Do I give the recruit accurate and enthusiastic presentations? Am I aware of the market trends and market values? Do I have creative and unique ways of making recruits feel wanted and needed? Do I call back when I say I am going to? Do I keep appointments? Do I avoid cut throat measures to lure a recruit? </p>
<p>And, for the Internet recruiters trying to sell a subscription to a web page: What do you really know about the site or sites you are trumpeting? Is lying to people or misleading people really worth $20? Is leading people to a frustrating and difficult experience worth making a few bucks? How much do you know about spam? Do you realize how short lived any so called success will probably be? Do you realize that eventually people will know what you are you and whatever limited success you have will dry up?</p>
<p>Now in the cases that we are talking about legitimate sites there is even more reason to be on top of our game. How well do you understand marketing? Do you separate yourselves from the weasel recruiters? Do you offer accurate and exciting information? Do we lay out short and long range goals that are realistically attainable? Do we avoid the lie of you will get rich from this guaranteed? Do we make guarantees that just aren&#8217;t likely?</p>
<p>For example let&#8217;s say you discuss the site or sites you are recruiting for on a forum. Do you explain the value of a site in a professional manner? Or do you go the lazy infomercial style route of “this is the greatest site ever” or “get rich quick from this site” style? Do you imply people should trust you just because? </p>
<p>Remember people are inundated with dead end proposals so they are rightfully leery of yours if you do not professionally represent yourself and the site or sites. And for those who are not used to the sale pitches out there you have the opportunity to give them the real deal. You can show them the good and professional side of the Internet and the wonderful advantages of the World Wide Web!<br />
Plus don&#8217;t you want to make wise use of your time? Don&#8217;t you want to try and raise the value of your time? While it is true that the more people you expose to your message may increase the opportunity of a response, the fact is it is more than just numbers. It is a mix of quantity and quality!</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t just get “a” message out. Get “the” message out there. A professional message. Build a professional and meaningful reputation. If you do this professionally, then even a simple site will get a loyal following. Of course you have to professionally apply a wise marketing plan along with your professionalism. </p>
<p>So recruiters look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself “am I a pretender or a contender?” Am I a professional? If you continue to tweak and fine tune your professional approach you will be a successful recruiter. </p>

<p>We live in a media hungry world. News and tabloids are monster businesses; however sometimes the line between the two is very blurred. And whether they like it or not business and celebrities need these entities for publicity and notoriety. </p>
<p>Of course you also have those who try and crash the party by stealing their 15 minutes of fame via the mass media. But that is another topic altogether. </p>
<p>The sad reality of all of this though is that media has sometimes taken advantage of the need for publicity and basically stalk famous people for any “newsworthy” item they can find. Frankly they are hoping for a scandal. And honestly it&#8217;s hard to feel sorry for these people who bring embarrassment on themselves. </p>
<p>And yet then there is another aspect of this whole publicity and the industry. Many times the celebrities feel misrepresented or that only part of a story is told; or even worse that a story is made up. And indeed both of those things happen all the time. </p>
<p>Unfortunately the media is full of unscrupulous people who will do anything to sell a story even if it means fabricating the whole or part of a story and assigning it to their “sources”. Some celebrities have been able to restore order through law suits but slander is very difficult to prove or too expensive to make it worth it. </p>
<p>However the tide has changed quite a bit with the popularity of the Internet and the various outlets made available because of it. Yes, many celebrities have fancied being their own spokespersons via their own web site or social web page. </p>
<p>Yes more and more celebrities are using Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace to correct or prevent false stories in the media. More and more are using their own blog to talk to their fan base and tell the “real story”. </p>
<p>Honestly, even though it doesn&#8217;t mean anything in the sense of important things in the world, it is refreshing to get to hear an uncensored or unedited version of a story from the key people involved. Now while that does not make it true or false it does give the celebrity a chance to tell their side of the story. In fact sometimes they do provide proof of misinformation in the media. </p>
<p>This is quite popular among professional athletes and musicians. More and more of them are even using these mediums to make big announcements. Anything from news from their daily life or items pertaining to their craft. Perhaps their next film or concert. </p>
<p>The beauty of all of this is it is becoming more and more a part of the daily landscape. This means that the media will be reporting old news as this practice grows in demand and becomes well known. What? </p>
<p>Yes think about it. Let&#8217;s say Suzie Superstar announces her concert on her blog and it becomes wide spread across the Internet audience. Well as more and more people use the Internet for news and announcements the news reported in the traditional media will become anti climatic. </p>
<p>The scoop of reporting about so and so being pregnant or getting divorced will likely be less and less titillating to read in the tabloids also because the celebrities will presumably put out comments and statements of their own. The more detailed they are or the more “lies” they expose the less people will look for the news in the news world. </p>
<p>Of course many of the printed publishers are also jumping on line with their web pages and Internet presence but the fact is that for the first time the celebrities and public persona&#8217;s have a way to fight back against what they feel is unfair and unnecessary treatment. Practically speaking they have a way of getting their story out before the media starts theirs. </p>
<p>While this may seem insignificant it really is not. Of course I am not suggesting this is equal to ending world hunger or educating the children of tomorrow but that does not mean is doesn&#8217;t impact us as a society. From a practical aspect this will also impact the everyday person also. </p>
<p>No really. As more and more people see celebrities use the Internet to reach out to their fans then more and more people will see how the Internet can make a difference. Thus it will influence others to use the Internet in constructive ways. </p>
<p>A side benefit of all this can also make some of us happy. The more celebrities that use the Internet the more you may get a chance to chat with them. Via their blog or a message for example. It can happen. It&#8217;s happened to me already. I have had some correspondence with those in the celebrity world that I would have never been able to speak too in other ways. Granted that is also not earth shattering or necessary but it is interesting nevertheless. </p>
<p>And it makes sense. Your favorite celeb likely would feel afraid or nervous to talk to you over the phone let alone meet you in person. There are too many wacky people out there. But chatting a little via the Internet is far more appealing and very safe. Very easy to cut off the idiots. </p>
<p>At the end of the day this is just another example of the power of the Internet and hey be honest, you may not be a celebrity hound but there are some personalities that you may wish to hear from and it is more and more likely you can via the Internet. </p>

<p>We have all heard the phrases “dress for success” or “look the part” have we not? Most times it is not a matter of going to great lengths to follow this wisdom. But it does take some thought and deliberate action.</p>
<p>Naturally those phrases apply to the way we dress and groom ourselves. For example even professional sports franchises have dress codes for their players and staff. In the NBA for instance players and coaches are required to wear a business suit when they travel between cities to play opponents in their cities. Why does it matter? These are adults playing basketball. </p>
<p>Frankly, it has a clear connection to professionalism. Think about it. The NBA like all sports makes most of their money through broadcasting and advertising. Yes they make some revenue by people paying a lot of money for a ticket to attend the games. But believe it or not, that pales in comparison to the tv/radio and advertising contracts. </p>
<p>Also the reality is that the broadcasting end of it is about advertising also. The networks pay the league for the rights to air the games but they in turn make their money by advertising dollars during that broadcast. But wait there is more.</p>
<p>Each arena or stadium that hosts an event is loaded with advertising! You can&#8217;t even go to the bathroom without seeing an ad in front of you. Guess what all of this is called?</p>
<p>We just described an affiliate marketing relationship between the sports franchises and the business world. Yes indeed, the Internet did not create affiliate marketing. But here is another guess what? The Internet is widely successful do to affiliate marketing! </p>
<p>The fact is that the sports industry would be a fraction of what it is if it solely relied on ticket sales to make money. And realistically many businesses feel that advertising or being an affiliate of professional sports makes their business more successful. It&#8217;s a 2 way street. That is what makes it a partnership. </p>
<p>So here we are now looking at our Internet business. Or course we want people to visit our web page and use it for the intended purpose we set it up for. If we have a blog than we want readers, and if we are an e-tailor, than we want potential buyers. And so on. But the fact is it doesn&#8217;t have to end there. </p>
<p>For one all of the other web pages in existence want the same thing as we do. They also want traffic and potential customers. This is why affiliate marketing is valuable and irreplaceable. It is also why you can earn money using affiliation. </p>
<p>But like any other business you need to be professional. You can have a professional advertising banner on your page but if your page is not fresh and disorganized it won&#8217;t be effective for you or your affiliates. Or if your site is full of ads and little other content it won&#8217;t come across professionally either. </p>
<p>Now there are web pages that are exclusively set up to advertise an affiliate but that is effective only because it is set up like a professional Internet billboard. It&#8217;s a commercial page basically. </p>
<p>However you have to be careful if your site is supposed to be there for another reason. I mean if you maintain a blog for instance and you rarely add content then you appear as if you are just providing ads for affiliates. You also put out the vibe that you really don&#8217;t care that much about your blog. That would be unprofessional and you would not be dressed for success. </p>
<p>“But I am just a regular Joe or Suzie. I am not a professional” many will say. Then why are you trying to confuse us? If you are going to attempt to make some money through affiliate marketing than you are insinuating that are now taking a professional approach. </p>
<p>Being a professional often does not mean you have to be a corporation or that you have a staff. I mean if you tailor dresses and suits on the side for money you are now offering a professional service in essence. You do not have to be a college graduate to be professional. </p>
<p>It&#8217;s the presentation and the care you put into your work that makes the difference. Dressing up in a suit for instance doesn&#8217;t make you a better basketball player, but it shows the world that you are serious and put a value on what you do. That is why the NBA insists the players dress up. It also reflects on the sponsors and advertisers. </p>
<p>And it really is not something to stress over. The overall point is to put your best foot forward even if your web page is just for fun or a side project. Go that extra mile and consider the details. It doesn&#8217;t have to be complicated. </p>
<p>Simple things like being relevant, up to date, accurate, and user friendly will show the world you take your web page seriously. And this will reflect a positive image on your affiliates. And that will only help you and them. </p>
<p>So remember as your managing your site to “look the part”.  </p>

<p>Have you ever gone into a small store to purchase a snack and then when you went to pay for it, the cashier was “busy” on their cell phone?  Yes it appeared as if you were interrupting them. Even though it is their job to provide service for you, they come across as if it is a burden to assist you. </p>
<p>How does that reflect on the business? Does it make you want to come back? Realistically that is not the way to treat a customer. In fact we should come across as if it is a pleasure to serve the customer. How about you? </p>
<p>When it comes to your Internet business are a professional or are you simply doing a boring job? Let&#8217;s take a look at a couple examples and areas that we can improve upon.  </p>
<p>Okay then here we go. We are going to assume that you are an independent contractor like a Virtual Assistant or a Freelance service provider. These are both in their very nature a professional business. Companies or individuals are turning to you for your expertise. </p>
<p>However being a professional is more than just performing a service in a satisfactory manner. Remember our cashier? There is no doubt that they know how to ring out your sale and send you on your way. But knowing how to use the cash register is just a part of their job isn&#8217;t it? </p>
<p>Likewise if you are a VA, it is safe to assume that you know how to perform the services you provide. For example maybe you offer professional accounting services. Or maybe you are a Freelance web designer? Again the reality is you probably are somewhat reliable at providing such services or you wouldn&#8217;t bother offering them.  </p>
<p>Your success however, will be determined by far more than your actual work. Your performance will be judged and evaluated on an entire package. By what you do, how well you do it, and the manner in which you do it? </p>
<p>Yes as VA or a Freelance contractor what does your package add up to? Aside from doing the job do you market yourself professionally? Does your web page and any other advertising tell the world who you are and what you are capable of? Do you deliver what you say you can deliver? </p>
<p>Do you provide a timely service? If you say you are going to be done in 2 weeks, are you? Do you complete everything you promised you would? Are you very clear as to what it is you will be doing for your client? </p>
<p>Do you prepare contracts that spell out in detail the services that you will provide and the cost of those services? Does it explain when these services will be finished and so on? </p>
<p>Are you available and accessible to your clients? Do you return messages and/or phone calls in a timely manner? Do you answer all questions in a satisfactory fashion? Do you make your client feel like their concerns are important to you? Customers do not want to feel like you don&#8217;t have time for their attention because you have so many other customers. In fact it is more professional if you turn down a project and explain that you would not be able to give them the service they deserve. Of course you would offer them the option of your assistance at a future time. Your professionalism may likely motivate them to wait if it is not urgent. </p>
<p>Taking this a little further you may even be able to take the job and sub contract the job out to another reliable associate or colleague. However, be certain they have the same standards of professionalism that you do. </p>
<p>Continuing in this theme it would be wise to decline a project you are not qualified to do. Of course if you are taking the job with intention of letting a qualified person or team perform the service that would do the trick. Again, as long as it is done professionally, in fact this may be a way that you could learn to perform additional services. Yes combining your continued education with on the job training will help you expand your services. </p>
<p>In all actuality it would be professional to always continue to pursue more education. You should always be up to date. For example some accounting requires knowledge of legal applications. A professional will be on top of all the latest changes in the law. As well as recent upgrades in software and concepts that may apply to other forms of VA or Freelance services. Be willing to learn new things and new options. </p>
<p>In summary the VA and Freelance world is very competitive and yet continues to grow. Those who are successful are taking the professional approach. How about you? </p>

<p>Picture this. You have been traveling over the hill side and through the winding worn in trails of the forest. Your horses are taking you and your family from your farm to the closest town. As you approach the gate of entry you see people coming and going as life in the town is bustling. </p>
<p>The excitement is now building as you enter the town. Riding through the main street you see crowds of people wondering through the marketplace. They are buying any number of things from the local vendors. Farmers have brought in produce and grains, the blacksmith has horse shoes and furnace tools, some women are displaying quilts and clothing materials, and on and on. People are buying and selling all around you.</p>
<p>In fact from the days currency became a part of society people have been buying and selling things. The amazing thing is however that the Main St or Town Square has grown into a global community all because of the Internet. Add that with the effective delivery capability and you have yourself an open marketplace. </p>
<p>In order to be successful as an e-tailor you also need to maintain a proper degree of professionalism. Even in the picture we painted above those vendors worked hard at earning a reputation of giving good services and offering quality products. </p>
<p>Okay so you have your web page operating and you are selling products on line. How can you be professional? </p>
<p>For starters how does you web page look? Is it easy to follow? Does it show you put some thought into it? Can I tell pretty quickly what you are? Yes a brief description of who are you and what you do is always a professional approach. </p>
<p>Are your products easy to sift through? Do you offer simple descriptions of your products? Is the price clear? Is the information accurate? Too often people find things on line only to find they don&#8217;t have it anymore. It is important to keep your site up to date. </p>
<p>Are your delivery methods clearly stated? Are all the options well stated? Are you 100% on top of your deliveries? Do you have top notch and reliable delivery procedures? Will the product arrive when you say it will?</p>
<p>How about your return policies? Are they easy and reasonable? Are you a pleasant experience to deal with? </p>
<p>Are you available for questions or problems? I cannot believe the amount of sites that do not provide email or phone numbers in plain site. Your customer shouldn&#8217;t have to waste hours trying to resolve a problem. Of course there is nothing unprofessional about providing an FAQ section on your web page. Oftentimes people can resolve or answer their own question by visiting the frequently asked questions. But some people want to speak to or correspond with the people who sold them the product. And why shouldn&#8217;t they be able to?</p>
<p>While many of these things may appear to be common sense the fact is it helps to have a reminder now and again to be a professional and remember what it is like to be a consumer. After all they are giving you there money. </p>
<p>So don&#8217;t forget things like having a simple payment procedure and not misrepresenting anything about you or your products. Remember you can form a bond that may lead to many more sales if you are professional and accommodating. Return sales are a significant part of retail in fact. And return sales are largely based on customer satisfaction. So it is undeniably worth giving your site and your business practices the professional touch. </p>
<p>Ironically this will also set you apart from your competition. Because just as sure as we are encouraging you to be more detailed and professional there are many who do not think it matters or that it is important. They will continue to let down their customers and present themselves in a uncaring manner and wonder why they are not doing well. Or they will be too lazy to take a few moments here and there to review our business methods. </p>
<p>But you don&#8217;t have to be like that. Hopefully you won&#8217;t be. Hopefully this article will motivate you to maintain a professional image. And don&#8217;t kid yourself into thinking that it takes an extraordinary effort to follow through with this plan of action. Because it really doesn&#8217;t. </p>
<p>In all honesty it usually is a result or mixture of knowledge and caring. Do you possess both?</p>

<p>It&#8217;s Hammer-Time! Remember Hammer-Time? You music hip-hoppers do! </p>
<p>Known by his mother as Stanley Burrell, he became a famous pop star artistically known as MC Hammer. The height of his career started in the late 1980&#8217;s and carried somewhat into the 1990&#8217;s. </p>
<p>Aside from his rap style pop music he had a flare for costume style grooming. He was very famous for the flamboyant Hammer pants. They were his version of what was called parachute style pants. To many it was probably ridiculous. Some maybe even were turned off by his act and his dress. However others were obviously attracted by it. </p>
<p>Frankly these types of things are usually calculated by a marketing team. Ironically he likely did it in the beginning “just because”.  Stanley was probably just being Stanley. But believe me when he was signed by a label everything he did was reviewed and examined. </p>
<p>You see the fact is any and all type of business has a target market. Sure you would like to appeal to the masses but that is rarely the case. I mean even something as simple as owning a restaurant follows the creed of knowing your market and targeting that market. For example a pizza shop does not try to appeal to the crowd who prefer fine dining. As well McDonald&#8217;s doesn&#8217;t focus on health food nuts in their ads. </p>
<p>Ironically MC Hammer and his management lost their target somewhere. Because over time his audience changed and he did not change with them. Primarily his music was geared toward the youth, as most music is, but more of a inner city crowd. Often made up of urbanites. More black and Spanish kids at that. This mostly is because it was believed that this audience would be more likely to purchase his music. </p>
<p>Over a course of time however the inner city urbanites were buying a darker and more edgy style rap music that had a different message than that of MC Hammer. His audience meanwhile was becoming a predominantly “white” suburban audience. Now that in itself was not a bad thing. But his sales were dropping because the “white” audience at that time was not as hip on the hip hop. So sales were not up to par. Of course it may also be that his style was just not fresh anymore but that is hard to quantify. </p>
<p>But the fact is he hurt himself by not being on top of his audience or adapting to the changes. To make matters worse, he tried to regain his original audience by becoming edgier and more “street wise”. But it was too late and came across disingenuous by the audience he was trying to get back. And then his new audience was also lost. </p>
<p>What is the lesson in all this you must be asking by now? The answer to that is simple. Don&#8217;t make the same mistake that old Stanley and many others make. Be true to yourself but also be aware of your target “audience”.This will lead to the need to be flexible. </p>
<p>Now being flexible can be tricky to some degree. For one thing it is not an exact science. On the other hand there is plenty of margin for error. It in fact can be fun. Hey and sometimes life and business is all about riding the wave as long as we can make it last. So don&#8217;t be intimidated or worried about being flexible. </p>
<p>The reality is that your Internet business can have a longer shelf life than a music career. But like music and many other industries, things change. People like the same thing over and over but they also like new additions and fresh ideas. The challenge is maintaining your identity while creating an evolution of development. </p>
<p>It doesn&#8217;t have to be drastic nor do you have to reinvent the wheel. The good thing is that this means you are not locked into a box either. You know the old cliché? Think outside the box. Well here is your chance. </p>
<p>Yes being professional doesn&#8217;t mean you have to follow a rigid formula or that you cannot take chances. Take the examples we gave earlier. Even MC Hammer rode a big wave for awhile. And during his ride he was a professional in his field while being flexible. He pioneered a look, some dance moves, and provided some entertainment for a whole generation. </p>
<p>Or take McDonald&#8217;s. While they are not a health food restaurant they put their fingerprint on franchising and broadened the scope of a fast food eatery all at the same time. And they have stepped out of the box a time or two while doing it!</p>
<p>What about you and your Internet business than? Are you web blogger? Then continue to refine your writing. Do you provide your readers with content they want from you? Do you keep it fresh and consistent? </p>
<p>Are you a web designer? Do you design a web site geared at enhancing the business it showcases? Or do you just build a site that you feel comfortable with? What a web site needs is to reflect the personality of the company or blog that is displaying. You need to provide that in a professional manner. Yet at the same time you need to push the envelope to the degree it works. Nice challenge! And worth every minute of your effort.</p>
<p>Are you a Virtual Assistant, a Freelance Contractor or a Consultant? Again do you know what your target audience needs? Are you always trying to improve your abilities and offer more efficient services? Are you willing to change when change is beneficial? </p>
<p>And the list goes on as well as the questions and challenges do. The principle is not as much what Internet business and service it is that you offer. It is the professionalism that you put into preparation, maintainability, flexibility, and paying attention to your market and its needs. </p>

<p>You and your family are driving one Sunday afternoon to attend a graduation party being held in an area you are not familiar with. You thought you had reliable directions but it turns out they were not as complete as you were led to believe. </p>
<p>When you left your house you were confident nonetheless because the person who supplied those directions sounded pretty confident and thorough. However as more and more discrepancies occurred you finally stop to get better directions. </p>
<p>Oddly enough the person who you are now asking directions from at first appears a little suspicious. Suspicious in the sense that they looked like they were not very sure of anything. In fact when you first ask them for directions to the location you were searching, they hesitated for a moment. But then they got out a map and gave you very detailed directions. In fact they made sure you understood what they said before they let you go on your way. </p>
<p>And not only did they make sure the directions were clear to you, they offered you free drinks to take with you on your travel. Already feeling relieved and confident, you have this strange but reassuring feeling that you definitely know where you are going now. Yes, you thought were confident before with the original directions, but this was more than confidence you were feeling now. You knew the person that you requested directions from along the way actually knew what he was talking about. </p>
<p>In fact at the party you couldn&#8217;t tell enough people about how that person helped you. Some of the locals even knew the person you were talking about. You heard a few people say “oh they are wonderful people, and know how to take care of their customers” and “you can always trust them for help”. </p>
<p>Even after the party on the way home you stop in the business and buy a few items just to say thanks and show your gratitude. And anytime you are in the area you would stop there again and again to patronize their business and say hello. </p>
<p>What made these people so trustworthy and helpful? The fact that they were truthful and accurate? That was part of it. The reality is they were professional! </p>
<p>Yes, being a professional is a package or a culmination of all things it takes to be a provider of good sound business. They listened patiently, they seriously thought, they responded kindly, they were accurate, they were clear, they made sure you understood, they went the extra mile, and they were not “in your face” sales people. All this amounted to thoroughness, pleasantness, kindness, taking care of the needs and emotions of their customer. Making the customer feel important. </p>
<p>Think about this. Directions are simply a form of advice are they not? It realistically can also be considered a service too. </p>
<p>However simple or complicated we often need help. And the help business is enormous these days. That is certainly the case on the Internet. That is not going to change. In fact one area this manifests itself is in the Internet consulting business. </p>
<p>True, there are a variety of fields of consulting. Practically speaking that does not change the need to be professional. Whether you are offering web design or helping create a warehouse software program you need to be a professional in order to be successful. Yes no matter what area of consulting you provide, you have to be professional. </p>
<p>Now it goes without saying that you need to know what you are doing. Recall in our opening story you can&#8217;t fake your way through a business. Remember the first person who gave the directions sounded like they knew what they were talking about? In the end it turned out they were full of doggy doo doo. That became even more apparent when a professional was consulted and they provided the “goods”. </p>
<p>But as we are trying to point out being a professional consultant goes beyond just knowing what we are doing. So ask yourself some questions to examine your level of professionalism. </p>
<p>How about this. Are you clear on the areas you can help in? Are you honest about it or do you just give the appearance that you are? Are you kind and pleasant to work with? Are you punctual and judicious in your work? Are you truly interested in giving your customer the help they need and desire? </p>
<p>Do you offer your services at a reasonable market value? Is getting paid more important to you than doing an excellent job? Are you looking to squeeze every last cent from your customers when the reality is that doing the little things can result in more business? </p>
<p>Are you continuing to learn the latest applications and keeping your customers aware of all of their options? Do you know how to balance giving the customer what they want and yet warning them of problems that could result from a bad idea? </p>
<p>Yes being the one a customer calls upon for that service you professionally provide is very rewarding indeed. And if you do your best to be all the things it takes to be a professional you will make some money as a trusted Internet Consultant. And you will be recommended by others to others. </p>
<p>So be a real professional and not a bunch of hot air. You will be recognized and people will seek you out. </p>

<p>Have you ever been in a store and everything is all nice and orderly and then you see a sign taped to a wall or the counter that looked like a 3rd grader wrote it up? Doesn&#8217;t that send a subtle and not so flattering message? Aren&#8217;t you in a sense saying we are too busy or too lazy to make a nice professional sign?</p>
<p>I know many people think that is not that big of a deal, but they would be mistaken. While it may not matter to some people, the fact is taking the time to be thorough, even in the small details, sends a positive vibe out for you business. Frankly, the poor display may not turn off everybody but the well thought out and professional display will stick out to everybody. </p>
<p>So how can you live by this principle? I thought it would be a good opportunity to talk about video, audio, and general imaging in connection with your web site. And this applies to you regardless of what type of business or site you have. </p>
<p>The reality is that video, audio, and images are very effective items to add to your web page. For example a face to put to a name is always a benefit. Also let&#8217;s be realistic, the old cliché that “picture is worth more than a thousand words” is a very practical and valid point. </p>
<p>And with today&#8217;s advancing technology and practices adding any of these items is getting easier and easier to do. But that doesn&#8217;t mean we should be carefree about it. </p>
<p>No, no, no. Au contraire my friends. If you are going to add a video or audio stream, or an image you should be commended. However take the time to present it in a professional manner. And that should begin with selection. </p>
<p>For example, let&#8217;s say you are a music band and you want people to get a flavor of your live performance. By all means that is a great idea. But if you put just any old audio or video feed up on your site that may be a mistake. Not everyone has a musician’s ear so they may not understand that you are working with inferior equipment. So if the feed sounds bad they aren&#8217;t going to assume, “oh they were using a cheap video cam” or oh they did not have a good recorder”. They are going to conclude “oh these guys don&#8217;t sound that good”. </p>
<p>So if you not sure, let a handful of people you know will be brutally honest with you preview any audio or video you are considering putting up. The last thing you want is to have an awesome site for people to read about you and what you do ruined because you put up a terrible version of you performance. </p>
<p>And again, it may be a technical problem and not a talent issue. Obviously if you don&#8217;t have the talent you should re-think what you are doing. But if you put up a bad video or a bad audio the listener may conclude that you don&#8217;t have the talent and wonder why you were dumb enough to think that you do. Now it is also your job to make sure that no one else is putting up a poor video, audio, or picture of you. Yes that is your job.  </p>
<p>Moving away from that specific example the point remains the same. Before you post a photo or an image, or a video presentation, or an audio commercial be sure it is well done. You know what I mean too. You have seen people in your area do lame commercials. And you know how unflattering and unprofessional that looks. </p>
<p>Often times not enough preparation is given to these projects. If you are going to put up an interview, an ad, a performance, and so on, be sure to prepare and practice in advance. Do it over again and again if need be. Heck even so called reality TV does this. They do retakes, and prepare dialog because people winging it usually stinks! Seriously. </p>
<p>This by no means is to be interpreted as saying you can&#8217;t be a little silly or be yourself. It has to be good is the bottom line. And that doesn&#8217;t mean that you will be getting an Academy Award for your acting or an Oscar for your production. Or even a Pulitzer for your photos. Just use common sense folks. Don&#8217;t be cheesy or lazy. </p>
<p>You should also not be hasty. It is much better to go without than to settle for half baked. Do not place imagery just for the sake of placing imagery. None of this “this is all I had” mentality. If all you have is sub par, than go without!</p>
<p>Picture it. People going to your web site and soaking in all of things you have to offer and the icing on the cake is the killer video/audio, or imagery they have to enhance who and what you are. What kind of picture do you see? A professional one that will lead to your success or a careless one that people will shrug off like pesky fly in their face? </p>
<p>Remember the choice is yours. You have the power to make your site complete and appetizing.</p>

<p>One of the easiest ways find followers is with mass following.</p>
<p>This entails searching twitter for a large amount of people and befriending them all. The idea is that for every 10 you befriend 7 or 8 of them will in turn befriend you. This compares to trying to build your own group of followers, which can prove to be a daunting task. There are many people (Including me) that believe this may get you on the twitter black list, as your profile can be seen as spamming legitimate people. This may be true, but if done correctly this is a legitimate way to not only build traffic to your twitter profile, but also build traffic results to your company’s website.</p>
<p>Another great way to get followers on twitter is with the use of co linking. The idea is sharing your website with another sister site, having you promote their site on your twitter account, and allows them to promote your site on their twitter account. Although some people may not actually allow you to do this, some will and if they have a substantial amount of followers, you will in fact start building a small group of people that are interested in seeing what your company has to say.</p>
<p>If you are still unable to build a following on twitter using these two methods, there are always web linking alternatives out there. By using other social networking sites to promote your twitter account, you are able to promote a link to your company’s website through other methods, there for allowing you to link back to the original website. This allows your website to be seen, your followers to increase, and in turn builds traffic back to the original website.</p>
<p>The final method you can use to build followers on your twitter account is by hiring someone. There are many websites out there that allows you to build up your followers without having to start from the ground up. This allows you to focus more on the content of your page rather than trying to find users. Look into legitimate companies that offer real profiles instead of fake ones.</p>
<p>If you are found using any kind of spamming techniques you may be removed from the website, so making sure that the company you are using knows twitters online policies is very important prior to signing on. Make sure you as your employee what specific methods they use to get additional followers to your twitter page. If anything sounds unsound, try another company. If in doubt use your gut feeling about the situation at hand. Finally, once you have started to collect followers make sure you update your page on a daily basis. </p>

<p>When selecting a background for your twitter marketing account, make sure to consider your audience. While you may loves cartoons and think that Garfield will make the perfect background character for your profile, try to remember that some people may not share your views. The best backgrounds to select for your profile are generally the ones that have a basic theme. The only exception to this is if your business sells specific items, and you are able to incorporate that into the background theme.</p>
<p>Remember this account is for your twitter marketing not specifically for your own personal use, and you should keep all items on this profile, business related. If you are not able to select your own background, perhaps you can ask a friend or family member with a better graphic understanding to help you. Incorporating a color scheme into the background is another fantastic ways to attract potential buyers using twitter marketing as well. Not only will it show you are a twitter expert and are involved within the online community, but it will help you stand out from any competition you may have on the social networking site as well. Try to look at the colors within your logo if you are selecting a color scheme online, sticking with complementary colors will give you the edge to a fantastic looking website.</p>
<p>After you have selected your background, it is time to choose an image for your site. If your company happens to have a logo, look into the image being that first. If for whatever reason you don’t see that as an appropriate image (perhaps it is an abbreviation of your company’s actual name) then look into using an image from the following and you should be just fine.</p>
<p>If your company specifically sells dog collars, a great idea would be to use one of the products you actually sell on a sample dog, for people to consider when reading your profile. Although discreet this is a great marketing ploy, and if the image is interesting enough, most people will actually ask about the image in a post.</p>
<p>If you are unable to show a visualization as to your products (perhaps you have a service) the next best thing is to use an item that relates to your services. <p>Finally, make sure you take the time to add your cell phone number to the account as well. One of the perks with having a twitter account is the ability to update it from your cell phone regardless of where you are in the world.</p>

<p>Twitter marketing is a relatively new forum of marketing, and many businesses may be intimidated at first when trying to use this program to prove beneficial. Twitter marketing does not have to be a complex method of marketing as long as you know how the website works, and how to use it to your advantage.</p>
<p>Twitter is an online forum created to allow people the ability to communicate instantly with a status update. Unlike other social networks, these sites are not filled with unnecessary programs or features, and are pretty basic in their content. Twitter marketing is the process of using your status updates to create website hits as a result. They in turn cause people to go to your website and draw attention to yourself in a positive manner without being seen as a spam artist.</p>
<p>Twitter only allows 140 character status updates within one update. This works out to about a small paragraph so make sure that you are choosing your words wisely. Create statuses that are thought provoking, or company related to get the most out of you website hits. By simply creating a status that only lists your website, there is no reason for people to follow you. If however you are creating a twitter update that explains the good you are doing within a community on behalf of your business then that would be something worth reading.</p>
<p>People enjoy hearing about fundraisers, charities, and how businesses are helping people in need whether it is a human or otherwise. If you are involved in charitable events this would be a great time to update people on the status of that. Perhaps you are trying to raise ten thousand dollars for the Haiti crisis relief fund, let people know every day how that goal is progressing and discuss why you are raising the money (will it go towards young children?) Feel free to also mention your site has a donation button (only if it does) which will draw those wanting to donate further back to your website.</p>
<p>Keep your messages meaningful and to the point. If you are not involved in a charity or fundraiser, perhaps you would like to mention how you are developing your business. Have you created a blog recently or are you hoping to add video to your website? Let people know in a professional manner about the updates your site is going through to help benefit them further. This will take the focus away from the actual products and services and put it back into the community. By showing people you care about their reactions and the user friendly design of your site is the one way you are trying to improve that, you are guaranteed to keep people wanting to read and see the progress you have been making.</p>
