Perhaps the number one reason fail with postcards is because they mail to the wrong people. This is the case mostly in Network Marketing or Direct Sales. What most people do is mail to a list of Opportunity Seekers and think that those are the best people, if you thought that then my guess is that you have probably failed in the past with postcards.

The reason that those are not the best prospects for your mailing is because 9 times out of 10 those people are just Free information seekers and are not really serious about building a business. Most times they have never actually invested money in any type of opportunity or program.

You can save a lot of time and money by simply mailing your offer to people that have actually reached in their pocket and invested in similar types of programs in the past.

I recently read a very interesting article on postcard marketing that said

Target your marketing. Promotional mailings without a targeted market in mind arent called postcards; theyre called lottery tickets and are about as effective. Promote your business exclusively to people likely to have a strong desire for the benefits provided by your product or service.

Again this goes pretty much hand in hand with the No Need issue above. Post people prioritize their spending based on their own wants and needs.
