Caving in Lamac Pinamungahan Cebu, Hidden Valley Resort

After some relaxations in the Hidden Valley Resort in Pinamungajan Cebu, we decided to go Caving near that area with the help of a local guide.

As far as I can remember, the tour guide fee was only P200 for 5 persons already. It was pretty cheap and the helmets and head lights were already included. It's like a 1-2 km walk from the Hidden Valley Resort.

Over-all, our caving experience in Lamac, Pinamungajan Cebu was totally awesome! You can really see the Stalactites and Stalagmites shining inside the Cave. I was even scolded not to touch the Shining stones "Again" because I've already touched it once. Shame on me. :D The reason we should not touch the shining stones is that our skin is not CLEAN and has oils that can affect the shininess of the stoned and will soon fade away. So I warn you now, protect the beauty of nature by not touchin on the Stalactites and Stalagmites. :

There was also this huge "Pipe" that we all thought that it was the Fresh Water Pipe for the swimming pools in Hidden Valley Resort. But when we took a closer look at it, we realized it was a TREE ROOT! A very very BIG and LONG TREE ROOT, inside the CAVE! wow! We were really amazed at the beauty of God's creation. :)

It was a fun experience because my dad and I love these kinds of adventures. But my kuya Raoul Derit has a lot of fears, especially when it comes to enclosed areas (like in a cave). So I interviewed him in my video camera on what he's feeling right now and what he felt after the Caving. And because of this experience, he was able to make a blog about conquering your fears.

Hidden Valley Resort, Pinamungajan Cebu

Last April 29, 2010, our family, together with the Derit Family (Raoul Derit and Ruveylyn Derit with their kids), went to Hidden Valley Resort, Pinamungajan Cebu for a short vacation and brainstorming for new ideas for a business.

It is located in Barangay Lamac, Pinamungajan, which is about 2 hours from the city. It is 8 kilometers away from Lutopan, Toledo and 14 kilometers away from Poblacion, Pinamungajan.

The place is very peaceful, green, and fresh. Very suited for people who wants to relax from all the stress in the City. Their accommodations aren't expensive too which is pretty good for a very big family.

If you're the adventurous type, you can also go caving on a near mountain with the help of local guides. (See my next post on Caving in Lamac, Pinamungajan.)

If you're in Cebu, Hidden Valley Resort in Pinamungajan Cebu is one of the Best Places to visit.

The Giant Clam Nursery and White Beach Of Cantaan in Camiguin Island

We are finally here in the rumored Gian Clam Nursery and White Beach of Cantaan in Camiguin Island! I think this is a very new tourist spot because when we went to Camiguin Island 5 years ago, we haven't heard of this existing yet!
Nestled in a cove near Cantaan is a beautiful beach with white sand. This beach facing Mindanao is already a surprise. But actually the real surprise is the Giant Clam Nursery.

This is a bit far from though from the other tourist spots to visit in Camiguin. Cantaan is only 22km from Mambajao but well hidden. Best transportation is your own rented motorbike. Then it takes some 30 to 40 minutes to get there. You may first miss the intersection leading to Cantaan. So when you see the wharf of Guinsiliban, make an U-turn. On your way back (about 500 meters), you will see the welcome sign of Cantaan with its Mickey-Mouse. Continue straight through the Barangay. The road is 95% of concrete and sometimes rather steep (See the picture below so you won't get lost).

But even though the place is a bit hidden, when you finally arrived at the beach, you will be Wowed! You will never expect a beautiful white beach still resides on that hidden place!

You will then be greeted with friendly staffs, most of them are kids which is pretty amazing! There is an entrance fee of P25.00 but they will tour you around the beach and show you the Giant Clams they're taking care of. Not only will they show you the Giant Clams inside the round pools, they will also explain the life of a Clam, in ENGLISH! And remember, they are local kids in the area but they know a lot of things about these beautiful creatures. :)

The Bright Kids of Cantaan :)

Not only that, if you're a swimmer, you can also rent some Goggles, Flippers, Floaters and Snorkels and go snorkeling around the area where you can find the rumored 1 Meter Giant Clam! There's a viewing fee of P150 though but they'll already provide you with a guide good for 5 people I think.

I think the price is right so 3 of us immediately went on Snorkeling (I love snorkeling!)! I was pretty lucky to I brought my 10m Waterproof Camera so I was already very excited to get some shots and videos underwater! So here are some shots I've taken in the shallow areas. I've also taken a video of the whole snorkeling activity and I'll upload it on Youtube and embed it here soon.

The Snorkeling activity went on for 45 minutes I think but God, it was awesome! I've done several snorkeling activities from different places already but for me, I think this is the BEST Snorkeling Experience I've tried yet! You can really see the 1M BIG Giant Clams!

Only after our snorkeling activity did we check out the Education Facility and we were amazed at how dedicated they are to save the Marine Life even though they are just a COOP and are not getting much support and funding from the Govt.

So if ever you come visit Camiguin Island, I guarantee you, this is one of the Best Places In The World! By going to this place too, you are helping the Cooperative, the Marine Life and most especially, the people around the area for livelihood. They sure need our help. :)

Sunken Cemetery in Camiguin Island

First time to see a cemetery by the sea? Witness the only Sunken Cemetery of Camiguin Island!

The sunken cemetery used to be part of the old capital of Camiguin. Mount Vulcan had four recorded eruptions.
Its third eruption in 1871 sunk Cotta Bato and its cemetery under the sea. Remnants of the structures and gravestones were still seen during low tide but the fourth eruption in 1948 buried the area deeper by around 20 feet. In 1982, a large cross was built on the solidified lava to mark this old gravesite.

Another tourist spot you can pass by and visit when you want to go to Sto. Nino Cold Springs. Other nearer tourist spots in these areas are the Gui-ob Old Church Ruins and the Walkway To The Old Volcano and Stations Of The Cross.

This spot is a very famous attraction especially in the Lent Season (Holy Week) were people from all over the Philippines intentionally go there and pray. This is also one reason why we went to Camiguin Island on the Holy week. :)

Old Gui-ob Church Ruins or the Catarman Church Ruins are ruins of adobe walls of the church, belfry and convent that are testimonials to the wrath of the earthquake and eruption of Mt. Vulcan in 1871.

Katibawasan Falls In Camiguin Island

Welcome to Katibawasan Falls in Camiguin Island! This place is also just very accessible from the Ardent Hot Springs. For me, I think this is the Best Place in Camiguin Island to take a swim. You can really feel the nature around you and the water is colder than the Sto. Nino Cold Spring!

Katibawasan Falls is one of the treasured gifts nature has blessed the island of Camiguin.According to the locals, the Waterfalls measures about 250 feet high, cascades to a rock pool surrounded by ground orchids, wild ferns, trees and boulders.The falls rushes down into its green pool that is really refreshing for a good swim. Tourist are welcome to swim. It is an ideal place to cool off during hot and humid days. There is however an entrance fee of 30 pesos per person since the falls is maintained by the province. Giant ferns decorate the surrounding land, carpeting the spaces and huge trees and dropping vines provides the backdrop the falls.

When you visit Katibasawan Falls, you might want to wait for some monkeys that come out from the ferns and vines near the waterfalls. :) This sure is one of the Best Places In The World!

White Island in Camiguin Island, Philippines

Be amazed by the Beauty of the White Island in Camiguin! This is one spot you MUST visit when you're in Camiguin Island. There's no other like this in the Philippines or even in the whole world!

White Island - also known as Medan Island, it is one of the most popular sites to visit in Camiguin. This small inhabited white sand bar, with picturesque Mt. Hibok-Hibok and Mt. Vulcan as its backdrop, is located two kilometers across from the beaches of Agohay and Yumbing. The island, with a shape that differs depending on the tide, is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, and shell collecting.

When you're staying in Ardent Hot Springs, it's much more accessible to visit this beach / tourist spot unlike when staying in Sto. Nino Cold Springs. You have to ride a pump boat first from Camiguin Island to get to White Island but when you get there, you can really appreciate the beauty of White Island! I suggest you go there early in the morning though, maybe from 6AM to 9AM because it's too hot with limited shades!

Ardent Hot Springs in Camiguin Island, Philippines

Welcome to Ardent Hot Springs in Camiguin Island! When we visit Camiguin Island, we always stay at Ardent Hot Spring and set up a tent, but on our 5th time to visit, we decided to stay in the Sto Nino Cold Spring for a change.

Ardent Hot Springs is a natural pool of about 40 degrees Celsius coming from the bowels of Mt. Hibok-Hibok. It has a four-tiered pool of varying depths and warmth. There are cottages, a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, and dormitory facilities provided for local and foreign tourists.

If you're new to Camiguin Island, I suggest you stay here first. It's much nearer to other tourist spots compared to Sto. Nino Cold Springs and of course, it's best to bath in the Hot Springs in the nighttime to sooth your body. Unlike when we visited their on a day, I really don't feel like dipping in the Hot Springs especially when it's summer and EL NINO!

Ardent Hot Springs is also the starting point if you want to climb Mt. Hibok-Hibok. My father and I have climbed the Volcano already when I was still 12 years old. :D So if you're a mountaineer and an adventurer, and have plans to climb Mt. Hibok-Hibok, you better stay at Ardent Hot Springs! :)

I can say that Ardent Hot Springs is one the Best Places In The World.

Sto. Nino Cold Spring in Camiguin Island

So here we are, at the Sto.Nino Cold Spring in Camiguin Island. When we arrived in Camiguin, we decided to stay for a night here. They have rooms you can stay in and it's not very costly too.

Sto. Nino Cold Spring is of course, a cold spring! Located in Catarman. Sto. Niño Cold Spring has a pool measuring 25 meters by 40 meters. It is 2 meters deep of cold spring water sprouting from the sandy bottom. The area has a restaurant, native cottages, picnic huts, cookout facilities and restrooms for visitors.

There are also live fishes swimming with you in the Cold Spring and if you try dipping your feet (with a lot of Dead Skin Cells!), the fishes will give you a foot spa and eat away your Dead Skin cells! Amazing right? :)

Camiguin Island, Philippines - The Island Born Of Fire

Last Lenten season, my family and I together with our housemates went to Camiguin Island (for the fifth time!) in Mindanao, Philippines to spend our Holy week there. For me, Camiguin Island sure is the all-in-one vacation destination. It's so complete that you can go to a White Sand Beach, or Dive in a cold Spring, or dip into a hot spring, or have a taste of a kind of water that tastes like Soda and more!

And since it's our 5th time to visit Camiguin Island, we were able to go around the Island and visit the important spots you should not miss and of course, we took pictures of them! If you haven't visited Camiguin Island yet, then you're missing 1/3rd of your life! Be sure to schedule your next vacation to Camiguin and experience the wonders of nature. Camiguin Island sure is one of the Best Places In The World.

Motorcylces And Tuktuk In Vietnam, Saigon

When you get to Vietnam, the first thing you'll notice is that... there's just so many motorcycles! Even the tourists can rent their own motorcycles, but since we love waking, we didn't get one but I bet it's just cheap!

Another thing you'll notice is that during a stoplight (traffic I mean), the motorcycles look like people in a christian band concert! It's that close that the wheel of one motorcycle is overlapping another motorcycle already!

So beware when trying to rent a motorcycle.. you must have the skills and courage in driving your motorbike! :D

There's also this weird 3-wheel pedal bike called TukTuk. We would love to try it but I think it's overpriced in Saigon T_T. My dad and I have tried it though in another part of Vietnam, not Saigon. :)

Art Museum - Sand Paintings In Vietnam, Saigon

This is a very unique art museum. At first look, it looks like the Paintings were made of the traditional Wet Paint, but when observed closely, you'll realize it's made of Sand!

And not just normal sand, it's made of of precious stones like Jade and etc.! Vietnamese sure has a unique sense in Art. :)

If ever you're in Vietnam, don't forget to visit this art museum just beside the Independence Palace. Another one of the Best Places In The World

1st Dinner Of Shabu Shabu In Cambodia

This is actually my first time to try a Shabu-Shabu! We were supposed to have dinner on a Filipino Restaurant in Cambodia but then it rained so hard (we were only riding a motorcylce, the most common transportation in Vietnam and Cambodia) that we stopped by a restaurant we don't know.

The funny thing was, when we entered the restaurant, it really just wasn't a normal restaurant at all! It was some kind of "Restobar" with girls waiting... for guys. O_o. The girls were already waiting for us guys to go near them, but since our purpose there was to eat, we didn't care about the girls! hahaha! :D

Cambodian foods aren't really that great, unlike Vietnamese foods, especially a Dinner In The Night Market Of Vietnam because they have these "mint" flavor in all of their foods. That's why when we were in Cambodia, we have no choice but to go to KFC! :D
