Google has started an ad campaign called “Going Google” which is taking a stab at Microsoft. Specificly Office with Google saying…

I think this is a big blow to Microsoft because many people don’t know about Google Apps, and it’s free office alternative Google docs. I’m not sure if it will work but I’m sure it will get a few people to switch. Google docs of course is a cloud based suite of programs, with office being a desktop app. Microsoft’s latest office now let’s you post to the web “cloud”. I really like Google docs but I’m not a fan of cloud apps I like desktop apps, just the other day I was looking for a Google docs desktop app. I haven’t found one but I’m sure there is one. I think it that is what it’s lacking I know a lot of people like a desktop app as well. I also like the advantage of cloud docs as well, when your not on your home computer you can easily sign into Google and edit your documents right from the web. So until I officially “Go Google” I need a desktop app.

I would have gladly taken this over my netbook any day since it has way more processor power. Even though it is a lot bigger then the Wind I take power over portability any day. In addition it also has a DVD burner, it’s really annoying without one unless you have a USB one of course. It definitely beats a netbook any day, It didn’t get a very good rating by CNet that’s because they probably compared it to a regular laptop. I would compare it to laptops in the price range like netbooks. It looks like it’s worth the money to get it, I know many people get netbooks because of it’s inexpensive. They’re definitely inexpensive but they don’t have that much power I know my Wind hangs up on me when I use it. Probably since I’m a power user and try to run everything on it. You might see me with it later on once I sale the Wind after I get it fixed. So If your looking for a cheap laptop with more power then a netbook take a look at the HP Compaq Presario CQ60.

The Touch Book from Always Innovating is now shipping. This isn’t your ordinary netbook it has a touch screen, the name gives it away. The cool thing about this touch screen netbook it that it’s also a tablet you can remove it from the keyboard. Here is what Always Innovating says about it…

Until now, all netbooks were engineered the same way: Power-hungry Intel Atom, ugly case, and outdated 90’s OS. Our goal: To achieve a breakthrough in both architecture and design. The result: a revolutionary device that works as both a netbook and a standalone tablet thanks to a detachable keyboard and a 3D touchscreen user interface.

It’s a very slick designed machine, at $299 for the tablet only and $399 for the keyboard attachment you can’t go wrong I might be looking into getting it. Instead of my MSI Wind which has been nothing but problems for me. So if your looking for a tablet for a good price then take a look at the Touch Book.

That’s a big deal for Verizon in my mind has a weak lineup of new phones. The Pre as of right now is only sold on Sprint’s network. I really like the Pre I was planing on switching to Sprint and getting the Pre. I think the WebOS has much room for growth and it’s going to be a really good alternative to the iPhone. It won’t beat the iPhone but it’s a good alternative like the G1. I know yesterday I was bashing on the Pre but with all Palm’s wrong doing I still like the device.

First to recap on what has happened since the release of the Palm Pre. The Palm Pre was first released having “support” with iTunes, meaning you could sync your music to your Pre using iTunes. Of course when Apple found out they did not like this so they upgrading iTunes and reported to fix a “bug”. Now Palm has update the Pre to “sync” with iTunes but by spoofing the usb id to the same as an iPod made by Apple. Palm said this in a blog post…

Oh, and one more thing: Palm webOS 1.1 re-enables Palm media sync. That’s right — you once again can have seamless access to your music, photos and videos from the current version of iTunes (8.2.1).

Since Palm has gone this route Apple can easily issue an “update” to it’s iPod “accidentally” bricking the Palm Pre since it’s not an iPod. Apple most likely will not do this, but it could happen. I don’t like what Palm has done and the method they’ve chosen to do this. Apple has every right to only allow a specific group of devices to sync with iTunes it’s their app. Microsoft done the same thing with their Zune software, plus the Zune software only works on Windows. Palm is also looking at Blackberry they are doing the same thing they did in the beginning to sync their devices with iTunes. I think Palm should just develop their own application and be done with it, It’s not even a big feature of the phone.

They have the update disk and the Mac Box Set for pre-order. The $30 update is only for Leopard machines that are Intel based. If your on Tiger and have an Intel based Mac then you have to get the Mac Box Set at $169 but it comes with iLife and iWork so it’s definitely worth the price. There is no definite release date but they say it should be released some time in September right around my birthday. I will most likely be going to Best Buy in the morning and get it, I want it the day it releases.

In time for Q1 2010, rumored to be the same time Apple may make a Verizon iPhone and come out with a Tablet. Could this be the end of AT&T’s iPhone exclusivity? I certainly hope so because that would bring completion from the other networks, on how they price the plans they give to iPhone users. But that also means Apple would have to put GSM and CDMA inside of it, which can be done. Apple could also make the phone available on all of the top networks. That means T-Mobile and Sprint; it would be really great for the costumers if the iPhone weren’t just on AT&T. A lot of current iPhone users can’t stand AT&T’s coverage. I personally hope the iPhone goes to Sprint even though I’m on Verizon right now, which I hate. Where I live the call reception for Verizon is horrible, and the family plans for Sprint are really good. Well that’s another discussion in it’s self.
