Just wanted to wish Brian Urlacher a happy 34th birthday. Here are some highlights to celebrate the happy day:

The Bears’ middle linebacker called into the Waddle and Silvy Show this morning with some interesting subjects including delving into his “lady” Jenny McCarthy, who’s impressed him so far in OTA’s and the possibility of becoming a Free Agent. The Lovies: Chicago Bears Top Single Season Performances, Part II

Lovie Smith has celebrated a lot of big defensive and special teams plays over the years.

Last week, I ranked the best single season performances by the Chicago Bears offense under Lovie Smith … so now let’s take a look at defense and special teams.

Lovie has always been a defensive-minded coach, so it was hard to make a few of these selections (safeties excluded). You will find Brian Urlacher, Julius Peppers and Charles Tillman on this list, but I think you will also find a few guys that you say, “Oh yeah, I remember that one-hit wonder.” So enjoy this trek through the best of Lovie’s past with the Bears since 2004. And I don’t mean to ruin it for all you Tim Shaw, Cameron Worrell, Jamar Williams and Corey Wooton fans, but none of them made the list. Sorry. Feel free to comment if I left anyone else out.

Vegas Sets Bears Over/Under for Wins at 8.5

You know football season isn’t too far away when the Las Vegas odds makers set the season win over/under totals for each team. The Chicago Bears were set at a surprisingly low 8.5 wins, meaning Vegas is on the fence about whether or not the Bears will have a winning record.

In terms of the NFC North, the Bears are ranked third behind the Packers (12 wins) and the Lions (9.5), but ahead of the hapless Vikings (6).

Based on last season’s results, that’s not completely surprising, but when you consider the improvements the Bears made on the offensive side of the ball and the expectation that Jay Cutler will stay healthy this season, that win total is begging me to hop on a place and bet big on the Beloved. … [visit site to read more]

Bears Enter Final Phase of OTA’s

The Bears entered the final phase of Organized Team Activities on Tuesday at Halas Hall, where they’ll practice Tuesdays-Thursdays thru June 7th and wrap up their offseason work with a mandatory minicamp June 12-14.

Under the new CBA, the OTA’s are limited to a maximum of nine weeks and are broken down into three phases. This final phase allows up to 10 days of non-contact offense vs defense work with coaches present and players in shorts and shells.

The Bears wrapped up Tuesday’s first workout with 7-on-7 and non-contact 11-on-11 team drills. Here’s the Minister of Propaganda Larry Mayer reporting from Lake Forest.

It looks like another “high profile” target could be hitting the market as Tampa Bay tight end Kellen Winslow was notified that the Bucs will be going in another direction and will try to trade him. If they’re unable to trade him, they may just release the veteran pass catching tight end.

Winslow would be able to provide the Bears another pass-catching tight end to go along with Kellen Davis, rookie H-back/TE Evan Rodriguez and veteran Matt Spaeth, who’s more of a blocking tight end that Mike Martz preferred. Winslow had 75 catches for 763 yards and 2 TD’s last season. He enjoyed his most successful in 2007 with the Cleveland Browns, when he grabbed 82 balls for over 1100 yards and 5 TD’s. … [visit site to read more]

What is Each Chicago Bears’ Signature Play?

The Twitterverse was buzzing on Friday morning, leading up to the first 2012 Cubs-Sox matchup not necessarily with the usual trash talking, but with an unexpected mid-season retirement. When I heard that Kerry Wood was going to retire, I have to admit I wasn’t totally surprised. With an ERA north of 8, Kid K just doesn’t have it any more. Then word began to spread that he was going to make one last appearance, a swan song if you will. It couldn’t have worked out better for him, striking out the last batter that he faced.

Seeing that moment, it was clear that aside from being on the DL, the strikeout on a nasty breaking ball was Kerry Wood’s signature play and it got me to thinking, what is the signature play or the signature moment for each Chicago Bears star?

Sweetness has so many signature plays, it’s hard for me to pick just one. How about diving over the pile for a touchdown? Is it a stiff arm and dragging a would-be tackler another 5 yards? Is it the high stepping down the sidelines toward the end zone? What about when he became the league’s all-time leading rusher vs the Saints? Hit the jump to see my ideas for our current Bears.
