For the last few springs we have hosted Jeff Feero of Alex Sepkus for an amazing trunk show. It has become one of our favorite annual events. When I heard the news this morning about this year’s Pantone Color of the year, I was ecstatic! I think tangerine tango is going to be way more popular than last year’s honeysuckle. When I saw the actual color I was even more excited. When it comes to the gemological world, oranges are some of my favorites and it is never too early to start thinking about your spring accessories. You should consider Spessartite Garnets, Mandarin Garnets, Sunstone, Fire Opal, and even Coral or Carnelian to accessorize with tangerine tango. Unfortunately the oranges are really difficult to photograph, which is why you won’t find many of them on our web page. I’ve made a valiant effort here, but keep in mind that in real life these stones have fire & pizzaz. They are truly eye candy when held in your hands. Come in with your new tangerine sweater and try them on, you’ll fall in love with the 2012 Pantone Color of the Year . . . I have!

At Beauchamp Jewelers we have GIA Graduate Gemologist and Appraiser on staff. We are happy to help you with accurate insurance appraisals. Nobody wants to pay too much for their insurance, and you definitely want to be fully covered in case something were to happen. When your jewelry is appraised the gold and diamonds will be tested to ensure their authenticity and to determine their quality and value. Every appraisal from Beauchamp Jewelers includes a complete description of the item, photographs and 2 copies of the appraisal document. One copy should be kept in a safe place for your records (somewhere different than your jewelry) and the other copy is for your insurance company.

When you purchase a piece of fine jewelry from our store ask for an appraisal, most of the time they are free. If you purchased your jewelry somewhere else, or just want to update your appraisal we can help you with that as well. Our appraiser is now available for all jewelry, including items not purchased in our Albuquerque store.

If you just want to sell your jewelry, an appraisal isn’t really necessary but we would be happy to make an offer on your gold, silver, diamond, estate, and other jewelry. Our store may have the “big city” look, but we’ve been in Albuquerque 60 years, since it was a small town and we are still locally owned. We may be big, but we will treat you like that small “mom & pop” store and we will take care of ALL of your jewelry needs.

Garnet

January’s birthstone, is a multifaceted gemstone that comes in every color except blue. Though most commonly found in deep reds, the garnet also takes form in rich oranges, greens, and softer pinks and purples. Soldiers in the 18th ­century often carried garnets to heal wounds because the red gem was believed to influence the blood. For good health and sweet dreams, mothers in medieval Europe would hang the translucent green hydrogrossular garnet above their babies’ cradles. The name derives from the Roman word for seed, granatus, as the gems were often thought to resemble pomegranate seeds.
