Little Rock, Arkansas, June 15, 2011 – BRP’s own legendary Team Evinrude member, Denny Brauer, has captured the first place win at the recent Bassmaster Classic Elite Series tour event on the Arkansas River this weekend. The Diamond Drive title is the 17th Bassmaster tournament victory for Brauer.

Brauer led the tournament each day and finished with 52 pounds, 2 ounces. The win earned him $100,000 and a berth in the 2012 Bassmaster Classic event. Despite having to wait for a barge at the locks which delayed his return trip back to the weigh-in, Brauer managed to still beat out his closest opponents.

“I was happy to have my Evinrude on the back to get me into the weigh-in quickly,” declared Brauer. “I knew I could rely on my equipment, which is very important to succeed in any tournament situation.”
Brauer, an Evinrude pro angler for 31 years, has many career accomplishments including two major titles – Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year (1997) and the Bassmaster Classic (1998).

“Denny has been the cornerstone of Team Evinrude and the many titles and accomplishments the team shares,” stated Christopher Berg, Director of Marketing and Strategic Planning for Evinrude. “We are extremely proud and privileged to have him represent our brand and look forward to his performance at the upcoming Classic.”

Look for Brauer to be competing in the 2012 Bassmaster Classic in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Choosing the best bait for bass fishing is essential if you want to achieve a measure of success and continue to get better and better in the hobby. Of course, if you do not have the technique then the bait is often irrelevant. However, if you have the bait in place, you can work on your technique and measure your own success every time you go bass fishing! There are several types of bait that you can use to great effect, but there are far fewer best types of bait for bass fishing and I will take you through them below! That way, you can try several out and see what works best for you before settling to one or two different types of bait.

The first is a selection of live baits (foodstuffs) that have been proven to work in the past with bass. Bait includes crab, sand eel, prawns and other small fish that will scent the water and thus attract the bass. However, it must be said that these do not have the same level of success in the winter as they do in the summer because bass do not tend to feed in the winter and it is doubtful that they would actually bite your line. It may be more prudent, and cheaper in the long term, to purchase and use artificial baits instead!

One of the most recommended options is a frog. Small plastic frogs are generally used effectively throughout the year. A frog is used to rest on the surface to attract bass because they will actually catch their attention in a rather potent way. Bass tend to be attracted to frogs for some reason. There have been many stories in the past about bass emerging from the water to snatch frogs from lily pads in the past. As they look and move like actual frogs, they have had great success in the past.

A floating worm is also a good option. Long gone are the days when live worms were commonly dangled on the end of a wooden stick and line, but fake worms are just as popular today and they do usually meet with some success. They come in a range of shapes and sizes and are sold at the vast majority of tackle stores. You can choose from ones that are 6 inches or those that are 11 inches, and they also come in a vast array of colours and shapes so. There is generally no difference so just choose the ones that you prefer yourself.

There are baits around that actually set the water in motion and that actually attracts the bass in a major way. As the bass in every river, creek, pool and so on are major predators, they tend to home in on anything that moves so if you can make the water around your bait move then you are at an advantage! The torpedo and the spinner bait are two examples. Both set the water in motion around them, which attracts the attention of the bass and improves your chances of catching more fish!

Where To Find The Best Bass Fishing Bait

If you want to be successful when you go fishing for bass, it is important to consider the bait you’ll need and the techniques you intend to use. Bait for bass has a wide range of possibilities, and you may want to try several different ones to see which one produces the best results for you. Here is a brief guide to choosing fishing bait for your next excursion.

The best bass bait by far for a variety of circumstances are jigs. These baits can be productive in several water clarities, ranging from murky to clear. They are also excellent choices in water temperatures under 60 degrees when bass bury themselves in deep cover and become inactive. What is a jig, and how does it work?

This bait basically consists of a heavy lead head with a single hook. Attached to the hook will be some sort of skirt or trailer that will present attractively to the bass, making it appear alive in the way that it moves through the water. If you have a weedguard, you can use them with great success in dense cover, where you’ll find the biggest bass. Because they are discreet, they can be dropped into bass territory just like a live crawfish or baitfish without a major disruption. There are a number of different types of jigs, in all sizes and color, so you need to choose the right one to act as your bass fishing bait.

Weight can vary quite a bit, and the various sizes will be effective with different line types. For example, lighter weights ranging from 1/8 ounce to 1/2 ounce work well with light line and spinning tackle and are best worked in clear waters. On the other hand, murky waters call for larger jigs like 3/8 and 5/8 ounce varieties that should be paired with baitcasting tackle and heavy line. If there is a lot of heavy wind, it can be difficult to detect bites on a jig that is too light, so you may want to opt for a larger, heavier variety in these cases. Of course, the lightest jig you can get away with in any circumstance will be the best bass fishing bait in any circumstance, since you can easily feel when it touches the bottom and when a fish makes contact. However, maintain a range of weights in your tackle box between 1/8 and 1/2 to assure you have what you need for any application.

Fishing vacation 101

Universally, the term “gone fishing” is associated with
vacations. In that case planning a fishing vacation should be
nothing more then a natural choice. Fishing combines sport,
relaxation, communing with nature and free food and hence
qualifies as the perfect vacation. From a weekend trip to the
closest lake front camping ground to an adventurous and long
packaged tour to the best fishing locales of the world, one has
plenty of choices that could be made.

While planning a long fishing vacation, there are a couple of
obvious choices to be made. First one being what type of fishing
is most appealing. The most basic breakdown here is a choice
between freshwater and saltwater fishing.

Fishing vacations come in various sizes and forms. They can be
started with loading your car with fishing rods and sleeping
bags or calling a travel agent or professional fishng guide.

These trips can be taken all the year round. Although the first
thought is generally to catch the bass biting at the very onset
of spring or the blues running in autumn. Trips can be made
absolutely anytime of the year, even in the dead of the winter,
just in case he angler has no aversions to cutting holes in the
ice.

A properly planned vacation can be fun for all, irrespective of
whether you are a novice or a very serious sportsman. The only
essential purchase required is the fishing license, rest all can
be rented. Rods and reels, boats and crews, which can even cater
lunch, can be rented out.

It can be a way for families to spend time together while
simultaneously enjoying the outdoors. Although the idea of
skewering worms onto hooks may sound gross yet the vacation can
be fun for the entire family. Fishing is a leisurely pastime and
you don’t have to excel at it to enjoy, and a total beginner
might be just as good or even more than a seasoned pro.

Just because you are vegetarian, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun
while fishing. One may use catch and release techniques for the
fun of the sport.

While as said earlier, their can be several ways of going for
fishing, however packaged tours certainly has some advantages.
Best part here being that all the essentials are included right
in the price. One need not carry all the equipment around, and
thus the trip becomes more fun. Along with the trip, the
vacationer also gets the expertise of the trip provider. Thus
one need not hunt around for the best ‘fishing hole’ and thus
the chances of returning empty handed are considerably reduced.
Also at fairly reasonable prices one may also get lunch included
in the package deal.

Toughest decision to be made while planning a trip is, where to
go. Think globally as ther are plenty of scenic fishing spots
which are a real treat for anyone interested. British Columbia
in Canada boasts of beautiful wilderness and streams filled with
great number of fishes of an ample of species.

There are also the less exotic but easier on the pocket
destination which can be good value for money. Prices for
accommodations may range from 100$ to 300$. One may also like to
make it a learning experience, by opting for a Fishing School
package. It generally includes hands-on and personal tutoring
regarding the ins and outs of fishing. All the equipment is
provided by the school. Prices may be around 300$ per session ,
travel expenses excluded.

General Fishing Tips

Here are some general fishing tips that we hope you will find useful. Remember, when it comes to fishing, learning from the tips of others and their experiences is essential in becoming a pro angler. Always allow your general knowledge of the sport to grow and you can only prosper from it.

Try to use Attractor Beads, Luminous Tube, and flashy things on your rig near the hook to help attract fish to your bait.

If you know that snapper or other large bitey fish are being caught in your area at the time, use strong rigs and put some protective tubing on your trace near the hook to help avoid being bitten off.

When going out on your fishing trip, take a variety of bait with you. Usually pilchards, bonito, trevally and mackerel work well.

Autumn is a great time of year to get out and go fishing. The fish are in much closer, the weather is more settled and the fish are hungry.

Make sure you have no scratches or nicks on your guides by rubbing a cotton bud around and inside your guides.

A tip from the experts: use a new rig every time you go on a fishing expedition.

A great tip for trout fishing is to put powerbait on your hook, and then dip it in garlic oil for a few seconds before you cast it.

On smaller plugs the middle hook is sometimes too small to do a good job so try replacing the middle hook with another one a size or two larger.

Keep a fishing journal and record the day’s temperature and how well you did at what spot.

Spring is the best time of year to go bass fishing, when fish move into shallow water to spawn.

After a cold front passes, go fishing under a dock. The underwater structure will provide safety for the fish, and that’s where they hide.

After heavy rain, most streams and rivers turn muddy. At that point, head to the nearest dam. Water flowing over the dam is usually clear water and the fishing there may save an otherwise dismal day.

High Tech Fishing Reels Offer Quality Casts

When it comes to fishing reels, there are an abundance of options to choose from. Depending on the type of fishing you will be doing will determine what type of reel you will need in order to be successful. Aside from fly-fishing, reels have made many big changes when it comes to materials and function. Reels of today use finely crafted precision parts and this allows for precise and fluid movement. Many of the new fishing reels of today are build from anodized rust free materials and they are durable and well constructed tools.

There are countless brands on the market today, when it comes to fishing reels. With the likes of Zebco, Diawa, and Abu Garcia on the roster, one can be sure that there will never be a shortage of options. Many of the great fishing reels that you can buy today, even come in accompaniment with a great rod generally of the same brand. This is where you buy a package and the entire setup is ready to go, all you need to do is thread your line spool with fishing line.

There are a few choices on the market today when it comes to fishing reels; aside from a fly-fishing reel there is a spin caster and a bait caster reel. The spin caster reel is designed to pull a small tab, or wire frame back prior to casting. Once you have cast your line, as soon as you touch the handle from the reel assembly it will lock and give you the tension that you need to continue your reel in motion. These fishing reels are very popular, and anglers use these reels for a variety of species of fish. The spool on these fishing reels are of the open concept design and make for a rather easy affair should your line get tangled. These reels also make it easy to load the spool with line, considering these fishing reels have no encasement to shroud the spool itself.

Bait casting fishing reels is basically of the same thought process however; the spool for the line is encased and is not visible. While the case does come off for easy line spooling, it can be rather cumbersome should you not be familiar with these types of fishing reels. There is merely one small button to be pushed while you are preparing to cast your line, making the bait casting fishing reels relatively easy to use. Once the cast has been made, the same process as the spin casting fishing reels apply. The line will lock once the handle for the reel in process is engaged. More often than not you will find this type of reel used by the big bass tournament pros, as it is a relatively quick fishing reel to use and it gets the line in the water quickly.

YTB/Zam Zuu Director?s and Leaders Leaving for new Fishing and Travel MLM?Let?s Get Fishing

Among the recent and continued struggles with YTB ( Your Travel Biz) and YTB Outdoors, many of the current and former Director’s and Leaders with YTB, now Zam Zuu are jumping from the sinking ship.

The problem with YTB, now Zam Zuu started two years ago when the Attorney General for the state of California slapped a major lawsuit against YTB.

Months later, the Attorney General for the state of Illinois filed a similar lawsuit against YTB.

The presence of these pending massive lawsuits, sent many YTB Directors and leaders running for the hills. In the months that followed, membership began to drop by the tens of thousands each month and now with membership well below 100,000 reps, the few remaining leaders have found a new home with Let’s Get Fishing.

The most recent blows to YTB (Zam Zuu) is the recent changes to the “copyrighted” compensation plan and the new business name change Zam Zuu.

YTB has been a travel MLM with its main focus was on creating home based travel agents. YTB travel agents or RTA’s (referring travel agents) were allowed to book travel directly through a slew of travel vendors and group cruise bookings.

Zam Zuu (YTB) now is shifting its focus away from travel and venturing into new ventures in an attempt to right the ship. Travel remains a 7 Trillion dollar industry, so why are they shifting focus away from such a large industry?

Sport fishing produced more economic activity than the Gross Domestic Products of 23 states! Fishing supported more than 1 million jobs. More Americans Fish than play Golf and Tennis COMBINED! If Fishing were a corporation, it would be 47th on the Fortune 500 list.

Additionally, LGF has partnered with some of the best talent to maximize the success of members wishing to work from home.

LGF has partnered with MLM Teamsites.com to develop the company marketing site, similar to the etravelfortune site used by many YTB leaders.

Carter Caves Park: the Lowdown on the Underground

There’s something instinctual in human beings that causes us to be fascinated by caves and caverns. In the days when being eaten by a bear at 25 was considered having “had a pretty good run”, a good cave was the equivalent of a 3 bedroom in the suburbs with a fenced in yard and a 2-car garage. Perhaps that ancestral memory is what makes Carter Caves State Resort Park so appealing. Or maybe they’re just cool.

Carter Caves is located 30 miles west of Ashland, Kentucky. It is home to more than 20 spectacular caverns. These subterranean wonders sprawl beneath the forested Appalachian hills, and can be explored via a number of lighted and unlighted cave tours. A small fee is charged for tours to aid in the park’s upkeep. Special tours for beginning and experienced spelunkers are also available (schedule ahead).

Among the most impressive caves is Cascade Cave, with its exceptionally beautiful underground waterfall (which towers over 30 feet high), X Cave (named for the shape of its passages), which is noted for its many astounding rock formations, and Saltpeter Cave, a spot rich in early Kentucky history. The largest cave in the park is Bat Cave. This huge cavern is the winter home of thousands of rare bats, and as such is toured only during the summer.

Carter Caves State Resort Park has plenty of fun to offer visitors aboveground as well. Guests can hike along 20 miles of wooded nature trails and enjoy great Kentucky scenery; the trails range from easy to difficult levels, so there’s something for hikers of every age and ability. Boating enthusiasts can take a relaxing canoe trip down Tygart’s Creek. Anglers will be thrilled by the opportunities at Carter Caves Lake, Kentucky’s only trophy bass lake, which is home to bluegill, catfish, and crappie in addition to largemouth bass. Golfers are invited to test their skills on the resort’s gorgeous 9-hole regulation golf course, then enjoy a break at its fully-equipped pro shop, where they can get rental riding carts, pull carts, clubs and more (the course is open year-round, weather permitting).

Guests who want to spend more than a few hours at Carter Caves State Resort Park have lots of excellent lodging choices. Lewis Caveland Lodge is an attractive fieldstone lodge that offers 28 rooms with full amenities. The 10 newly built cottages are beautiful 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom affairs with automatic dishwashers, microwave ovens and covered decks with scenic views of the hills. The tent and sleeping bag crowd can hit one of the campground’s 89 campsites and enjoy the 1st-class utilities, which include a dump station, and two central service buildings with rest rooms and showers.

Whether you’re after outdoor fun, natural splendor or just a few days respite from the rat-race, you just can’t top a trip to the Bluegrass State and Kentucky’s Carter Caves State Resort Park.

Choosing the Right Rod and Reel

The variety of fishing gear is endless. Dozens of reels to crank when the clerk isn’t looking and dozens of rods to twitch without hitting another customer.

Here’s what I do: before I go into the sport shop I decide what I am going after. And I do just that. But, aside, I usually end up with cans of to-die-for pretzels and elk jerky, too.

Picking the right reel for the job is easy if you know what fish species you’ll be going after. I’m lucky, I use the same rod and reels for bass, walleye and yellow perch.

I prefer a spinning reel over the baitcaster. That’s what I grew up with and that’s what feels best in my hand. I also like the control it gives me when casting and fighting a fish.

Most freshwater fishing is easily done with a spinning reel but what about size? How big or small of a reel should I purchase for my next trip to Lake Erie?

Reel manufactures like to assign numbers to their products. The number usually denotes its size. The larger the number, the larger the reel.

Look for reels with numbers such as 200, or 2000, 2500 or 3000 (my choice). These reels are prime sizes for most river and lake fishing. Larger reels such as 4000, 4500 or 5000 usually denote saltwater reels, made for 8, 9-foot rods for surf or pier fishing.

There is one exception to this rule, I’ve found. And that’s the size of the fisherman who will be using the reel. A large man with big hands might think a 2500 Shimano is too small to operate. Then obviously go with a larger reel.

Price-wise, it’s a jungle out there. Reels can cost anywhere from up to 0. I’ve never owned a 0 reel and probably won’t. I tend to stick in the -0 range.

When you pick up a reel read the information on the box. It will tell you a lot about what’s inside. Reels with more stainless steel ball bearings will likely last longer, but cost more.

But price and longivity go hand in hand. Buy a reel and you might have to purchase one every two years. Buy a 0 reel and it might last four years. In the long run, the cost is the same.

Generally, spool your reels with 8-12-pound test line.

Now that you’ve decided on a reel let’s stroll over to the rod rack. It’s here that I spent the most money. I want strength, sensitivity, light weight feel, quality guides, a real cork handle and a reel seat that won’t cut into my hand. Keep this in mind and you will choose wisely.

Some manufacturers still offer fiberglass rods, but most turn out varying grades made of graphite and other binding materials. Why graphite? It’s strong, light and sensitive. Take care and it will last 5-10 years.

Choosing the length of the rod is pretty much subjective. Some anglers like a shorter stick, while others want more tip to fight their fish. If you can afford it buy both and you’ll know soon enough what’s right for you.

As I indicated earlier, I am sold on the smaller reel such as a 2000 Diawa or 2500 Shimano spinning reel. This size is perfect for a 6-foot or 6’6″ rod.

Unless you are sold on a custom built fishing rod, stick with well known companies like Berkley, Fenwick, Zebco and Shakespeare. Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s also offer some good stuff under their name.

As with reels, the more you spend the better the equipment. It’s up to the individual to decide what’s best for his/her budget.

Under the weight of a fish, A good rod should always have a gentle curve from near the handle to the tip. This means the weight is being distributed equally up and down the shaft.

So, when I go shopping I take along a one-pound weight tied to some fishing line with a snap swivel on the other end. When trying out a rod, snap the weight on to the tip’s eye then lift slowly and observe the curve. If there isn’t any, the rod is too stiff. If the rod tip goes to the floor, the rod is too limp. You want something in between.

All rods are marked as to their strength. Look just above the handle and you will find some writing. Letter “M” mean a medium rod; “MH” means medium-heavy; “L” light. You get the idea.

Remember, though, a Zebco medium probably won’t be the same as a Berkley medium. Check it out.

The truth is, it’s not as tough as everyone makes it out to be. It’s just that nobody does it. And, why not? For one thing, fly fishing works best for fish that are feeding near the surface, and cats are bottom dwellers. For another thing, catfish like to put up a good fight, and many fly fishermen have had fly rods snapped in half by feisty catfish.

Fly fishing is actually a great technique for catching channel cats in rivers. It doesn’t work so well for flatheads or blues. The best way to learn how to fly fish for cats is to get out there and do it, but there are some tips that will help you along the way.

Know Your Stream

You really have to know when and where the catfish are biting in order to catch them with a fly. Catfish are looking their hardest for food usually in the early spring during spawning season, and in the late fall when they’re trying to fatten up for winter. Depending on the river or stream, you may find catfish on the surface all year round. It’s a little like gambling; if you get a few hits, you should keep on going and ride your luck. Most anglers find that if they get a few catfish early in the day, they’ll have a lot of luck all day long. On the other hand, if you spend a while out there casting flies and get nothing, it just might not be the right time or place. If you haven’t caught anything within five minutes, move on to another spot on the river. Once you find a spot where they’re biting, stay until you get a few.

The best places are always around obstructions like dams or log jams, where the catfish will be in calm waters. Look for a spot where there is some activity at the surface of the water. Even if you’re not sure it’s a cat you see, as long as something is biting and you can see it, there are sure to be cats there as well.

Good Gear for Fly fishing Catfish

Fly fishing for catfish won’t probably catch you a giant trophy sized fish. Most anglers catch channel cats that are under 10 pounds fly fishing. You should use a fly rod that is anywhere from 5-7 weight. You don’t want the rod to snap, and you also don’t want it to be so heavy you don’t feel the fish bite.

A long rod helps with control. Once you catch him on the end of your line, you’re going to want to ease him to the shore without losing him. A nice long line will help you to keep his head above water as you pull him to shore.

A word on tying flies – it’s tough at first, but you’ll get used to it! Casting is tricky, too. Just be patient and remember that trial and error is what makes you a pro!

Fishing Vacation Hot Spots

There are hundreds of locations around the world that are simply excellent locations to enjoy. You will see that many of them are listed here. Others, like the favorite one that you have may not be. There are many unique ways that you too can enjoy the waters the world has to offer.

Consider Manitoba, Canada

The area is known as Land of Lakes that have served to produce many trophy fish. Both still and fly fishing pros love the location. In Manitoba, you’ll catch some of the best northern pike and they will give you a good fight too. They strike hard and fast on the Daredevil lure. You can use flies with a good amount of success. You’ll also find brook and brown trout, rainbow as well as perch and pickerel. Go in the spring or the fall for the best fishing vacation here.

Good Old Long Island, New York

Here, you’ll find Montauk Point. Some of the world’s top naturalists have come to the conclusion that this is the place to find the most fish in the world. The point is a glacial cliff and you’ll find tuna, cod, mackerel, marlin, striped bass and white shark here. It also features the oldest lighthouse in the states. An inside tip is to cast from the rocks below the lighthouse and you’ll get some of the best fishing out there. Although spring and fall are the best times to go, you can come during the summer too.

Wyoming, USA
If you are looking to catch trophy trout in the US, a vacation to Yellowstone National Park is a must. Slough Creek is full of trophy trout, as are other streams within the Park’s boundaries, and they are all stocked regularly. Streams and rivers outside of the Park also offer great fishing opportunities, as do the waters of nearby Idaho and Montana. Wyoming is home to 62 native species, including Arctic grayling, burbot, channel catfish, shiners, chub, several trout species, suckers, goldeneye, mountain whitefish, shovelnose sturgeon, and a wide variety of smaller fish.

The Florida Keys

The Florida Keys offer a wide range of fishing opportunities. People come all year round to catch them. In fact, Hemingway himself fished here. The waters are still as excellent as they were then too. You’ll find tarpin and bonefish in the Marquesas Islands. You’ll find blue marlin, King mackerel, sailfish, yellowfin, shark snapper, and a wide range of others here too.

Head To Hampshire, England

Head just outside of London to get some of the best fly fishing opportunities. Here you’ll find trout and Atlantic salmon. Check out the Itchen and Test rivers too although they are on a private island and you’ll need to pay to get in, they are excellent opportunities nonetheless. You’ll find trout fisheries here, too.

Try Missouri, USA

Go to the Ozark Mountains of Missouri. Here, you can catch bass under the limestone bluffs. You’ll find that the river itself has over two hundred different species including bass, channel catfish, sunfish, bullheads, muskellunge, walleye, shad, perch and trout. You’ll find more fish here than anywhere in the US.

Here are some tips for you.

Don’t take with you all of your equipment unless you really want to. You’ll find guide services will provide you with everything that you need.

They can also provide the necessary fishing licenses for you too. Get your information from here too. Make sure if you plan to go out of country that you are allowed to export and import the fish, though.

You can always ask other anglers where they like to fish. Some of the best locations for fishing are in those small, hideouts that are closely guarded secrets!
