Vinyl Banner Disappears, Event Organizer Offers Charity Reward If Found

Here’s a nice news bit for you. A specially made vinyl banner which was advertising a new fair recently disappeared in a town called Ross-shire, located somewhere in the Highland Council Area in Scotland. The mysterious disappearance of the vinyl banner prompted its event organizer, a lady named Kristy Anderson, to offer a charity reward to anyone who finds it and hands it to her.

The reward, which will be converted to a donation for charity, will be given to anyone who has information about the distinctive 3x2ft vinyl banner which was recently used to plug the previous weekend’s event at Dingwall Community Centre. Unfortunately, the vinyl banner disappeared outside Dingwall, somewhere close to the Cromarty roundabout.

The custom banner sign, which costs a total of 120GBP for two, was designed by Anderson. She put it on display as early as 8:30am to advertise the event. By 2:30pm, she noticed that it was already gone. Disappointed, Anderson immediately reported the thievery of the vinyl banner to the police. She is hoping that a good soul bring it back as it was her first fair in Dingwall, thus the advertising with the vinyl banner. She was utterly disappointed but she is offering a charitable donation to anyone who finds the stolen vinyl banner and returns it to her.

The local fair organized by Anderson in Dingwall aims to gather all sellers who merchandises goods such as jewelry, knitwear, collectibles, and more. Anderson is one of the many who sells knitwear. She may be disappointed with the turn of events for the first fair she organized but she will definitely organize another one come December 3, Saturday, at the National Hotel in Dingwall.

Vinyl banners are inexpensive advertising tools that small and local businesses can use to market their products and services. This is certainly sad news but it goes to show that event organizers do value their signage as it helps them greatly in their business.

Hanging Vinyl Signs Using Grommets and Fastener Tapes (Part II)

In our previous post, we taught you how to hang vinyl signs with grommets as they are usually accompanied with these mounting devices. The safest thing to do when hanging vinyl signs using any hanging device is to hold fit tightly against the wall or any other surface when deciding on its location Ask for help from several people to assist you if necessary. A ladder should also be used for a steady hold.

As mentioned in an earlier blog, vinyl signs are commonly accompanied with grommets upon purchase and delivery, but there are times when they are not. Using a fastener tape, here’s how you could display your vinyl signs:

1. Connect the hoop side and the loop side of the fastener tape together and cut it into 2-inch lengths, cutting more as you go along and needed.

2. Remove the backing on one side of the tape and press it on one side of the vinyl sign, just about an inch from the edge. Afterwards, place a length of paired tape on either side of the vinyl sign.

3. Post the sign against the wall or surface where it will be hung. Stretch it onto place to remove any creases and to make sure it will be attached smoothly.

4. While holding one end of the sign with your hand, use the other hand to reach behind the sign and remove the backing that covers the sticky, adhesive tape.
5. Press the sign against the wall, making sure that it is stretched and smooth to avoid creases. Attach more pairs of fastener tapes as needed.

Now that you have vinyl signs posted on your establishment using fastener tapes, also remember that vinyl signs can also be mounted on other surfaces such as foam boards. A note of caution: sticky tapes can remove the paint off walls and other surfaces so use this tape with caution. Alternatively, you can also use suction cup hangers and snap kits for hanging vinyl signs.

Hanging Vinyl Signs Using Grommets and Fastener Tapes (Part I)

Vinyl signs are used by businesses to communicate with customers. Vinyl signs can display important messages and announcements such as sale items, discounts, business hour signs, and featured products and services. While most vinyl signs are accompanied with grommets when purchased, not all of them have grommets.

When hanging vinyl signs with grommets, here’s what you need to know:

1. With vinyl signs already accompanied with grommets, mark the sign’s placement with a pencil just to note the center point inside the grommet’s opening. Grommets are usually in twos, placed on both the left and the right side. You can either use the left or the right grommet for this.

2. Have a washer and a screw available. The washer should be slightly larger than the opening of the grommet while the screw should be about 1 ½ to 2 inches long to fit through and cover the grommet’s opening. Additionally, it should have a pointed or a tapered end.

3. Use a drill bit to drill a starter hole for the screw. The drill bit should be slightly smaller in diameter than the diameter of the screw. To drill a hole, place the drill bit just on top of the marker and drill. The starter hole could be just an inch or less in depth.

4. Push the washer against the grommet on the front part of the sign and attach the screw through the washer. Once the sign, screw, and the washer are held in place together, drill the screw into the starter hole and drill it through the wall.
The washer should secure the grommet and the vinyl sign against the wall tightly.

5. Stretch the other side of the vinyl sign and put it into place. Have someone do a visual check for you to see if the vinyl sign is properly aligned before repeating the process for the remaining unattached corners.

When hanging vinyl signs, remember that it should be placed in a location where visitors can easily see and read them. The wall and the mounting devices should be able to handle the hanging devices. Two Ways for a Successful DIY Vinyl Sign (Part I)

Vinyl sign manufacturers are widely available, both on the internet and the real world. With the right tools however, you can make your own vinyl sign without pouring out a huge amount of money. You can also purchase inexpensive materials or create a custom vinyl sign and have a vinyl sign specialist print it out for you. With the many pre-made fonts and signs available, creating your own vinyl sign is a breeze. There are basically two ways of making a vinyl sign. Here’s one.

With a Vinyl Cutter

1. Install all the software included in the cutting program. These may include drivers and graphic program plug-ins that are packaged with the vinyl cutter you purchased. Just follow the on-screen instructions for a successful installation.

2. With the help of imaging software or the graphic program included in your vinyl cutter, create the vinyl sign with the right measurements, fonts, and colors. Print it on a regular paper and adjust the size as necessary. Larger vinyl signs may require separate printing of each letter for easier visibility.

3. Insert the vinyl into the vinyl cutter through the friction feed rollers and the side adjustment dial. A “Cut” icon should be located in the cutting program or on the imaging software. Or, save the vinyl sign design as a .jpg file and open it in a cutting program. As soon as the vinyl cutter finishes cutting the vinyl sign, remove with friction feed rollers and the side adjustment dial.

4. To remove all unnecessary vinyl from the vinyl sign, hold a corner of the vinyl sign and pull it from the backing paper. Use a weeder or a razor knife to remove excess vinyl from the spaces between the letters.

5. Cut a large piece of transfer tape using a pair of scissors and place it on the vinyl sign. The size cut should be big enough to cover the letters on the vinyl sign. Smooth the transfer tape by using a squeegee applicator then pull it out from the paper backing, and voila! The sign will now be attached to the transfer tape.

6. Spray an application fluid on to the vinyl sign surface to prevent the sign from sticking to the surface for approximately 20 to 30 seconds. Use this small amount of time to correctly position the letters before permanently sticking it into place. Position the transfer tape over the surface where you want to put the vinyl sign. Apply pressure to the back of the transfer tape with a squeegee and push out any creases or air bubbles.

7. Finally, pull the corner of the application tape up until only the vinyl sign is left on the surface where you placed it. Do some final adjustments on the letters before the application fluid dries.
