Rafael Benitez is apparently looking to bring Arjen Robben back to England as he plans his summer spending with Liverpool.

Having recently signed a new deal at the club, the former Valencia coach is thought to be looking at the future and already wants to build for next season.

Both AS and Marca, citing English sources, claim that his top priority is Robben, who has been in excellent form for Real Madrid, leading them to within just six points of Barcelona in La Primera.

The Dutch international joined the Spanish side from Chelsea and whilst he has struggled with injuries, he could be the natural winger than Benitez is after.

At the moment Liverpool are using both Albert Riera and Dirk Kuyt on the flanks, but suffice to say that - despite their recent productivity in front of goal - neither appear to have the speed and trickery of Robben.

According to the Daily Star, Benitez will have around £30 million to spend next summer and he could well make a bid of around £20 million for Robben.

The problems with him leaving Real Madrid are clear though: firstly; the club would be reluctant to sell the winger due to his sparkling form and secondly; with a new president coming in, it would surely be foolhardy to sell one of the best players to a European rival.

Even at the price of £20 million it seems highly unlikely that Real Madrid would be tempted as Robben has become one of their most important players this season.

General Motors Plans Volt Battery Factory in Michigan

By the end of 2010, General Motors expects to have its first production ready electric car, the Chevrolet Volt, in showrooms across the USA. Highly anticipated, the Volt represents a new direction the giant automaker is going by producing a line of highly energy efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles for the masses.

Before GM can produce one Volt, the company has to have a factory in place that can produce the four hundred pound lithium-ion battery pack that will power the car. To that end, GM has announced that a factory in Michigan will assemble the fuel cells that will be made by South Korea's LG Chem Corporation, investing $30 million to get the job done.

"The design, development and production of advanced batteries must be a core competency for GM, and we've been rapidly building our capability and resources to support this direction," Wagoner said. "This is a further demonstration of our commitment to the electrification of the automobile and to the Chevrolet Volt - a commitment that now totals more than $1 billion."

A location for the plant hasn't been finalized, but the car company is in talks with state and local officials about the placement of the facility. GM expects that the facility will be put quickly in place, allowing the company to start output by early 2010.

"Our announcements are part of a comprehensive advanced battery strategy for GM that is expanding along two pathways," Wagoner said. "First, we're identifying core competencies - such as battery research, development and assembly - and integrating these fundamentals into our product development and manufacturing operations. We believe this will become a competitive advantage for GM, and will be critical to GM's long-term success. Secondly, we're building a roster of battery suppliers and academic experts from around the globe, and leveraging their specialized abilities to develop battery chemistries and cell designs, as well as future automotive battery engineers."

The Volt is expected to be the first of many electric cars built by GM over the coming years. Supplement power will be provided by a 1.4L I4 engine, but on electric power alone the Volt will have a forty mile range. GM expects that the car will appeal to commuters who will be able to plug in their cars each night for a recharge and go about their business the following day.

GM has recently displayed the Cadillac Converj concept, a stylish two door coupe, that is yet another example how the Volt platform could be utilized. GM expects that the Volt will also be sold in Europe under its Opel brand and perhaps in Australia as a Holden model.

England's Thierry Henry, the explosive striker for soccer's beleaguered Arsenal team, has decided to cut ties and venture toward greener pastures with the Barcelona club. His recent decision has left fans disappointed but not surprised, as the deal for the move has dragged on for almost a year.

Of the move, Henry has recently been quoted as saying, "I have said so many times why I left Arsenal. I don't want to go back to that, but it was hard to leave. I always said that if I ever left Arsenal, it would be to play for Barcelona."
Well, now Henry's wish has come true.

Since Arsenal's 2006 loss for the Champion's League to Barcelona, fans and those 'in-the-know' have believed that Henry would make the move to the team that beat them, but then Henry turned around and signed a new contract with Arsenal.

However, the marriage has not lasted long, and the deal has been struck. The lucrative deal between Henry and Barcelona will make the Frenchman a very rich man indeed. The 29-year-old signed a four-year contract, which also includes a release clause.

Thierry Henry has played with England's Arsenal team since 1999, playing in more than 250 games and scoring almost 200 goals. However, he spent much of 2006 on the sidelines recovering from injuries incurred in March, which included hamstring, back and foot problems.

Nevertheless, during his illustrious career with Arsenal, Henry shot quickly to the top as the club's leading goal scorer, and in the 2001-02 season, he netted 32 goals. The following season, he scored 42 goals and offered his best with almost two dozen assists. That year, the FIFA's Technical Study Group also named him Man of the Match in three out of five matches for France.

In 2005, Henry rose to club captain, and that year also saw Henry become the club's all time top goal scorer, and he followed that year up with another successful year at breaking records in 2006. Henry is the only player to win the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year three times, in 2003, 2004 and 2006 and has been awarded the French Player of the Year four times. But perhaps the finest validation for Henry came in 2004 when football icon Pele named Henry one of the top 125 greatest living football players.

His early days with Arsenal found Henry playing wing, but team adjustments placed him at the striker spot at center, where it soon became clear he was incredibly gifted. Henry did, and has continued to, impress fans around the world with his lightening quick speed and large dose of natural talent.

Whether Henry will find what he is seeking with Barcelona, a Champion's League, remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain: Arsenal will miss one of their most gifted players, and all eyes will be on Thierry Henry as he begins a new chapter of his life with Club Barcelona.

Drivers 16 years of age are at high risk for traffic accidents due to their immaturity and limited driving experience. A series of five research papers published in a September 2002 supplement of Injury Prevention addresses this risk among young drivers. The papers make a compelling case for graduated driver licensing (GDL), the system of laws and practices that gradually introduce young drivers into the driving population.

Graduated Driver License programs can be found in 31 states around the country. The GDL program permit young drivers to safely gain driving experience before obtaining full driving privileges and are generally targeted towards 14 – 17 year old teen drivers.

Most states require an adult with a valid driver’s license be present when the teen is driving. Additionally the teen driver is required to enroll in a certified Drivers Ed course and must hold a learner’s permit for at least 3 – 6 months before taking an “operators driving license” test.

It is during these 3 – 6 months when teen drivers with learner’s permits mostly drive the family vehicle with their parents. While GDL programs allow the teen driver to gain experience in a family vehicle with a parent, other drivers are not aware who is behind the wheel of this vehicle.

Notifying other drivers will give them the ability to consider choices when approaching a vehicle operated by a teen driver. We can increase traffic safety and awareness. FTC Wants Your Two Cents on DRM

By the end of 2008, Spore -- and the controversy surrounding its digital rights management (DRM) -- nearly singlehandedly introduced the issue of copy protection in PC gaming to a wider swath of consumers that may not have given it much thought before. And if you happen to have a particularly strong opinion about it now (and we're guessing you do), then good news: It looks like the Federal Trade Commission will be investigating the fairness of DRM to consumers in March, and they're looking for your opinions (via GameCyte).

All you need to do is head over to the FTC's official form to post a comment, fill out the necessary fields, write your thoughts, and send it in. The FTC assures that "all timely and responsive public comments" will be considered, so long as you get your comments in before the deadline: January 30.

Do note, though, that any comments you send (along with any personal information you fill out) will be added to the public record of the investigation, and accessible by, well, anyone who wants to access it. So before you bust out that perfect, virtuoso string of expletives you carefully constructed years ago and were saving for just this sort of special occasion, stop and consider if you really want Internet flame forever associated with your name in a public FTC record.

Eidos Confirms Around 30 Laid Off at Crystal Dynamics

It's the way of the world in these dour times, and here we have yet another round of bad industry news: Joystiq reports that Eidos has confirmed approximately 30 people were laid off at Tomb Raider Underworld developer Crystal Dynamics yesterday.

When asked why the cuts were made, an Eidos representative gave a curiously paradoxical answer: "We have increased the focus on the Tomb Raider franchise at Crystal Dynamics; regrettably this has resulted in the reduction in headcount." That logic doesn't seem to follow to us, and it's surprising Eidos didn't simply cite the same reason Midway, Electronic Arts, Free Radical, Factor 5, and Aspyr cited for their recent layoffs and financial troubles: the recession.

As Joystiq points out, these layoffs follow reports (via Edge-Online) that Eidos was disappointed with the sales of Tomb Raider Underworld during the holiday season. What's curious about that, though, is that it's not as if Underworld was a flop -- it sold 1.5 million copies, which is nothing to sneeze at. Makes you wonder just how well Eidos needed Underworld to sell for it to be considered a success...

New iPhone Game - Tic A Tac Poker

Just spent the last 30 minutes downloading and playing a really fun new game for the iPhone and iPod Touch called Tic A Tac Poker.

This game has been on mobile phones in the past but if you're not familiar, Tic A Tac Poker combines Poker and Tic Tac Toe to create a poker game with eight opportunities to put together your best hands. Play down, across or diagonally as you place your cards very carefully and strategically on the game board.

There are three games included in Tic A Tac Poker:

1. Tic A Tac Poker: Make as many 3 card poker hands as you can. You get more points for the harder levels (less discards).

2. Draw Poker: Play 3 or 5 card draw poker head to head against the dealer. Winner of each hand gets to place a card on the game board. Win points by making as many poker hands as you can.

3. Poker Challenge: Play against the clock as you make the winning poker hand before time runs out.

It is very well done, the artwork is fantastic and the game is simple to learn and play. It can be very challenging, however so you'll get hours of enjoyment out of this game. It also has a live, worldwide, high score leaderboard and community which I haven't played with yet but is a nice feature.

The guys at AppVee just reviewed it here and gave it 4.2 out of 5 stars. You can also watch a video of the gameplay on the AppVee site.

The game sells for $1.99 and is an absolute steal at this price. If you have an iPhone and like Poker, download it from now and you will be happy.

Halo Wars and Dawn of War 2 Highlights of Microsoft CES Booth

Visiting the Microsoft booth at CES became a sort of videogame Easter egg hunt the past few years. You never knew what you would find, but it seemed they always managed to hide a handful of games we hadn't seen around the displays. Not this year. With a new single ribbon wall replacing the pods used in prior years Microsoft chose to focus primarily on their big Xbox 360 games from this past holiday season.

Two upcoming games did get front placement at least. Halo Wars, only a couple months away from its March 3 release date, looked pretty much in final form. After checking it out I agree with the point Scooter made in our last Halo Wars preview about the lengths Ensemble Studios has gone to to ease players into the game. By the end of the extensive tutorial system moving the camera with thumbsticks and using the unit selection system felt comfortable. And the game nails that sense of playing with a set of toys you often get from real time strategy games. Halo fans should dig sending out Warthog patrols and rumbling across the map with Scorpion tanks.

There are a lot of PDF viewers out there. A few I've experienced, many I have not. There are also multiple uses for PDF files: books, documents, manuals, etc. Typical PDF viewers are great for casually browsing a file, but what if you are going to be using it for an extended amount of time, like actually reading a novel? In this situation, plain PDF viewers are insufficient. If you find yourself in this very position, worry not! Tofu is here like some sort of text-based superman.

Why, specifically, is Tofu the best app to use for reading books in PDF format? Well, in my opinion, the printed word, transferred to digital means, just doesn't look right. It's flat and monotonous and doesn't pull you in, like a printed book. When you open a file in Tofu, it sets the text up in columns. You then have the option to change the font, the text color, the background color, AND the size of the columns, amongst other things. This allows you to ENTIRELY customize your PDF reading experience, preventing it from becoming stale, disorienting, or painful. Tofu also has a smooth scrolling preference, which slightly animates the act of "turning the page", which makes the app even more enjoyable to use.

In addition to all of those insane features, Tofu has integrated speech recognition into the app. You can turn pages with your voice! Granted you have to be in a sufficiently quiet place for the commands to register, but it's a novel experience all the same. If voice commands aren't your thing, how about the Apple remote? Get yourself something like Mira, and it's as simple as the click of a button. You can program any of them to implement whatever keystroke you desire.

If you're going to read a book in PDF form, then Tofu is literally a must-have application. You can completely customize your reading experience, including fonts, colors, and column width, and control it at your leisure, using either your computer, your Apple remote, or your voice. How can it get any more simple?

Blackberry Storm: First Impressions

I strolled into my local Verizon store this week to play with the Storm, the new Blackberry phone and latest touch-screen device to hit the marketplace. I am a huge fan of touch-screen devices, and love that all the top OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) are pumping these devices into the marketplace to compete with Apple. The Sprint Instinct (by Samsung, home brewed operating system), T-Mobile G1 (hardware by HTC / operating system by Google, an Android phone), The Voyager from Verizon (made by LG, homegrown operating system) have all entered the marketplace in the last year to compete with the iPhone. They are all decent attempts to capture some marketshare, but they all fall short in terms of living up to the iPhone.

If the iPhone is a 9 out 10, the Storm is a 7. That is an overall score. Its touch-screen usability gets a 5, and here is why: when using the keyboard, the whole screen acts as a button, and each keystroke must be accompanied by not only a touch, but a push as well. It could be that I am way to calibrated to the iPhone, but I have already read of others feeling the same way. When you touch a letter, it only highlights the key; you then need to press the screen to confirm. It was very difficult to type, as I had to constantly look at the screen to see what letter I am pressing, and of course my fat fingers are covering that part which I need to see. Please, drop in to the local Verizon store yourself and you will understand how this is not that cool.

I had a few goals in mind, one was to review the typing on the keyboard, another to simply navigate the device and get a feel for the usability. Here, the device gets higher marks. One of my complaints about Blackberrys in general is the poor way in which you navigate around to perfrom any function. I loathe the little menus you must use to save, edit, etc. With this new device, the interface is way better, and its far easier to navigate around.

Lastly, though, one item that surprised me was lack of WiFi. Hello? Enough said.

Bottom line: Of all the touch screen devices / smart phones out there, iPhone is the champ by a big margin. I would rate them thus:
