I can’t begin to tell you how much fun I had with this family! I did a Sprout Session for them last year, when J.P. was only six months old and what I love about him is that he’s soooo full of life! It may be hard to keep up with him, but he has such a joy and determination about him, and that combined with how completely and utterly adorable he is…how could you ever, for one second, be upset with him???! I couldn’t… ever. I feel so honored to be able to document his life as he grows.

We swung…

Then J.P. switched into his cowboy boots and his cowboy hat, and showed us around his ranch….

And we recruited dad to see if he could jump over J.P. and his 10 gallon hat! Pretty good clearance…I’d say.

Thanks for the wonderful adventure, I had a blast!

Growing fast!

It’s sooo fun getting to see my little friends again as they grow!!! First up is a little guy I photographed a year ago when he was a newborn (here and here), so needless to say, he’s grown ALOT. This age is alot of fun, and very unpredictable; I should know, my baby boy is the same age! We had our plans but he had his own agenda, which included a lot of crawling around in the street! But…I’m a fan of going with the flow, and I’m so glad we did because I am in love with that first image! Well, actually I love them all.

Stay tuned: Next up will be the little cutie in the newsboy cap! But, this time he’ll be sportin’ an authentic Ten. Gallon. Hat.

Sweet Boys!

I recently did a session for my friend Lisa, who is just about the sweetest and hardest working mama that I know. She is one of three super talented and creative women behind Luxecetera, a design and branding boutique, that has been pretty much an overnight success. I was so happy to connect with someone who could relate to the demands and challenges of juggling a busy family and running a demanding business, all while still keeping her sanity!

I’ve been so pre-occupied with the start of the school portrait season that I’ve put the blog on hold, but just wanted to post a quick peek for Lisa before another week slips away from me.

I recently swapped sessions with my friend Kristen of Essential Imagery, who I mentioned in my last post. She did an impressive job chasing around my three boys and getting some awesome images, even the ever elusive shot (and up unto this point, the bane of my existence!) of all three together, in one picture. Yep, it’s true. If you don’t believe me, see for yourself over on her blog.

So in return, I promised to photograph her and her honey-dip (a.k.a. her husband). They were so much fun to photograph, and absolutely radiant!

Letting our Light Shine

During a visit with a dear friend and colleague Kristen, I mentioned that although she couldn’t see it on the outside, I was doing somersaults on the inside…to which she gave a full belly laugh…which made me even more ecstatic (on the inside)! I realized that this is often the case, a deep joy resides within me, but I am not able to express it…especially when it comes to putting my work out there and sharing it with others. This got me thinking, is it shyness, or introversion, or something more?

I started noticing the disconnect between what the heart says and what the mind says. Like the heart says, “go!” and the mind says “waaaiiit a minute there, nooot so fast!”. The mind tells us to live ’safely’, within the conceived parameters of the mind or within the confines of how big (or little) we think others can accept us to be. The mind tells us to protect ourselves. It keeps us disconnected from our heart, our trueness, our joy, our purpose, and our light. In truth, we are each so much more than we have ever imagined…

Consider this:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. A Fantastic Playdate!

On to the beautiful babies! This little guy was born 3 months early, and has been keeping his mama (and papa) busy ever since. He’s healthy, adorable, and oh so snuggly, don’t you think? He definitely has kissable, pinch-able cheeks!

His cousin Miles, decided to make his way into the world on Beau’s original due date. How cool is that?! Needless to say, they are going to have a lot of memories growing up together!

Sleeping babies…the most beautiful thing in the world, especially for their parents!

When big cousin Nahla stepped onto the scene, she definitely brought her personality!

This one is made it to the studio’s Gallery Wall as a 16×22 Fine Art Canvas. She totally rocked the farmer’s hat!

And this is what happens when you put a 4 year old in a field of ferns! Loooove it.

Kindred Spirits

Life is so amazing. This is what I realize every time I slow down enough to notice. We don’t always know what lies ahead and often, what seems to be a brief crossing of paths, is much, much more. We don’t know how long or short or often our journeys together will be, or where they will take us. We don’t know what lies in the hearts of the people we encounter everyday…but sometimes when we least expect it, we find someone who is a kindred spirit and a nourishment for our hearts. For this, I am grateful, truly truly grateful.

I photographed this family last Fall, and they recently added a new little one to their home! What a great honor to meet and capture her sweet, little, brand new spirit.
