We’re back with a podcast where John plays a synthesizer emulator and talks with Chris about writing a novel for National Novel Writing Month. You can follow John’s progress on the novel A Rock, a Skip, a Clock, and a Pirate on his NaNoWriMo page. This marks a lighter approach to the podcast with music performed and mixed into the podcast live as we record. Thanks to Carolyn Campbell for taking the photo of us.

This episode has new theme music, as well as a new schedule. We’ve decided to do the podcast more regularly now, hopefully every few weeks. However, to make these changes, it’s taken a lot of procrastination on our part, so that’s the topic for this episode. Also, this is our tenth podcast! We talked about ways to not procrastinate, creating new theme music, and celebrating the new year. We appreciate your feedback, so please leave a comment.

John and I started the Bad Metaphor audio podcast in December of of 2005 and did 9 podcasts throughout the year and then took a break which extended for a couple of years. But now we’re restarting it and will put the old and new episodes up. Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy the podcasts.

In August of 2006 John and I travelled up to Sackville, New Brunswick to talk with singer / songwriter Julie Doiron. We sat on her front porch and as cars drove by in the warm afternoon John interviewed Julie about writing songs, getting started in a rock band, how to make an album, and what she’s working on now.
In part B Julie talks about making the new Shotgun and Jaybird album, the Sappy Records Music Festival, and how you can get her music.

In part A Julie talks about her inspiration, writing songs and making albums. We finish the first part with the song “Snow Falls in November” from Julie’s album, “Goodnight Nobody”.

Episode 8: Camping

We finally went camping and hiking in Fundy National Park and had some fun, but a storm cut our stay short. Bad Metaphor #8 – Camping was recorded on location in New Brunswick in Fundy National Park and just outside of Fredericton in Staples Settlement while we visited John’s grandparents on my side. We camped at Point Wolfe and recorded sound on Point Wolfe beach, the Coppermine Trail, and beside a campfire in Staples Settlement. John also talks a little bit about his Tamagotchi which he kept with him while we were having adventures.

It’s Summer and we’re on vacation and on our first adventure we went to the Discovery Centre in Halifax. John begins somewhat randomly by reciting Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll (accompanied by “Dark in Here” by James Shuttleworth, which is a track I found on Opsound). Then we talk about our trip to the Discovery Centre and the things that we saw there which you can see in our Flickr photo set “A Trip to the Discovery Centre“. We wrap it all up with some ideas for what can you do on vacation such as jodi.org and Superbad or more outdoor-related things such as visiting Cape Breton or Fundy National Park.

We take things on the road in episode 6 of Bad Metaphor and we talk about work at the Nova Scotia Community College Halifax Downtown Site. Chris and John walk around the areas where Screen Arts is taught. We go in the office, the studio and the edit suites and look at the technology used to make films and videos.
