First and most important, breastfeeding baby should continue when first introducing foods.

When feeding a baby, first test all warmed foods for a comfortable eating temperature before serving. Heating baby food in a microwave is convenient, but be sure to check the temperature very carefully.

Use microwave-safe dishes and stir food from the center out after heating to ensure the temperature is even.
When babies begin to eat solid foods, do not give the child small, hard foods.
Remember, baby should always eat and drink in an upright position.

Some Tips About Breastfeeding

In recent years, more and more hospitals have been encouraging mothers and largely, parents, to breastfeed their children. The act of nursing of one's child is beneficial to both mother and child. Therefore, if you choose to provide for your child in this manner, there are a few tips that can be helpful in this journey.

Don't Wait

As soon as you are physically able to nurse your child, go ahead and do so. Do not wait until you leave the hospital to begin. Among other things, it will not only convey to your baby that this is how he/she will be satisfied when hungry, but it can also quicken the bonding process.

More Milk

Many mothers are concerned and at times even scared that they may not produce enough milk to satisfy their child. This is understandable and although every woman's body is different, as a rule, the more you allow the child to nurse, the more milk your breast will produce. So, keep offering it to the child.

Clues from Baby

Most often than not, as a last resort, babies will cry when they are hungry, but before they get to that point, they may indicate to you, in other ways that they are hungry. One of these ways is putting their finger and or their hand into their mouths.

Another clue is turning their heads as if looking for the nipple. So, when you notice these clues, jump in there and do not wait until the baby begins to cry to meet his/her need.

By observing and acting on these clues, it can help to teach the child that he/she does not have to cry, before their hunger need is met.

Length of Time

It is usually recommended that a baby be nursed on one breast for about fifteen minutes, burp the baby and then offer the next breast for another fifteen minutes. However, I find that for the first few months they may spend as much as one hour, nursing. Therefore, make sure that you are in a comfortable position and allow the baby to tell you when he/she is full, instead of following the clock.

Don't Give Up

Keep at it and although at times it may seem demanding, it is well worth it.

Most parents find it difficult to talk to their children about sex; some feel unconcern about sex education, but we should know that our children spend a lot of their time watching television and most of these programmes they watch and what happen around them affect their lifestyle either positively or negatively, so is up to we; parents should educate their children about sex and safety and not letting them learn it outside, because you don't know what they are been taught there.

Children around age six ask questions like "where babies came from?" or "what are breast are?" when children start asking question like this, the best thing parent should give them honest and accurate information, just tell them everything don't hid anything from them. Its better they know and learn from you than they should learn them outside, from that age, every year as they mature, you should add more information to the level of their understanding.

Let them know that:

1. No Drinking
2. No Smoking
3. No Sex, no babies until marriage

It is important that children should know what would happen if they should have sex, the diseases they could contacted even if they wear some type of condom, disease like STDs, but there are sure way of not contacting the disease or getting a girl pregnant, if he stay away from sex.

It would be nice for you sex educate your children rather than letting their teachers or learn from their friends which can be dangerous to them and to you their parent. So give your best to your children education.

10 Golden Keys to Successful Parenting

It is important that we discipline in a way that teaches responsibility by motivating our children internally, to build their self-esteem and make them feel loved. If our children are disciplined in this respect, they will not have a need to turn to gangs, drugs, or sex to feel powerful or belong.

The following ten keys will help parents use methods that have been proven to provide children with a sense of well-being and security.

1 - Use Genuine Encounter Moments (GEMS)

Your child's self-esteem is greatly influenced by the quality of time you spend with him-not the amount of time that you spend. With our busy lives, we are often thinking about the next thing that we have to do, instead of putting 100% focused attention on what our child is saying to us. We often pretend to listen or ignore our child's attempts to communicate with us. If we don't give our child GEMS throughout the day, he will often start to misbehave. Negative attention in a child's mind is better than being ignored.

It is also important to recognize that feelings are neither right nor wrong. They just are. So when your child says to you, "Mommy, you never spend time with me" (even though you just played with her) she is expressing what she feels. It is best at these times just to validate her feelings by saying, "Yeah, I bet it does feel like a long time since we spent time together."

2 - Use Action, Not Words

Statistics say that we give our children over 2000 compliance requests a day! No wonder our children become "parent deaf!" Instead of nagging or yelling, ask yourself, "What action could I take?" For example, if you have nagged your child about unrolling his socks when he takes them off, then only wash socks that are unrolled. Action speaks louder than words.

3 - Give Children Appropriate Ways to Feel Powerful

If you don't, they will find inappropriate ways to feel their power. Ways to help them feel powerful and valuable are to ask their advice, give them choices, let them help you balance your check book, cook all our part of a meal, or help you shop. A two-year-old can wash plastic dishes, wash vegetables, or put silverware away. Often we do the job for them because we can do it with less hassle, but the result is they feel unimportant.

4 - Use Natural Consequences

Ask yourself what would happen if I didn't interfere in this situation? If we interfere when we don't need to, we rob children of the chance to learn from the consequences of their actions. By allowing consequences to do the talking, we avoid disturbing our relationships by nagging or reminding too much. For example, if your child forgets her lunch, you don't bring it to her. Allow her to find a solution and learn the importance of remembering.

5 - Use Logical Consequences

Often the consequences are too far in the future to practically use a natural consequence. When that is the case, logical consequences are effective. A consequence for the child must be logically related to the behavior in order for it to work. For example, if your child forgets to return his video and you ground him for a week, that punishment will only create resentment within your child. However, if you return the video for him and either deduct the amount from his allowance or allow him to work off the money owed, then your child can see the logic to your discipline.

6 - Withdraw from Conflict

If your child is testing you through a temper tantrum, or being angry or speaking disrespectfully to you, it is best if you leave the room or tell the child you will be in the next room if he wants to "Try again." Do not leave in anger or defeat.

7 - Seperate the Deed from the Doer

Never tell a child that he is bad. That tears at his self-esteem. Help your child recognize that it isn't that you don't like him, but it is his behavior that you are unwilling to tolerate. In order for a child to have healthy self-esteem, he must know that he is loved unconditionally no matter what he does. Do not motivate your child by withdrawing your love from him. When in doubt, ask yourself, did my discipline build my child's self-esteem?

8 - Be Kind and Firm at the Same Time

Suppose you have told your five-year-old child that if she isn't dressed by the time the timer goes off, you will pick her up and take her to the car. She has been told she can either get dressed either in the car or at school. Make sure that you are loving when you pick her up, yet firm by picking her up as soon as the timer goes off without any more nagging. If in doubt, ask yourself, did I motivate through love or fear?

9 - Parent with the End in Mind

Most of us parent with the mindset to get the situation under control as soon as possible. We are looking for the expedient solution. This often results in children who feel overpowered. But if we parent in a way that keeps in mind how we want our child to be as an adult, we will be more thoughtful in the way we parent. For example, if we spank our child, he will learn to use acts of aggression to get what he wants when he grows up.

10 - Be Consistent, Follow Through

If you have made an agreement that your child cannot buy candy when she gets to the store, do not give in to her pleas, tears, demands or pouting. Your child will learn to respect you more if you mean what you say.

Psychoanalytic approaches

There are several different techniques to approach the psychoanalytic treatment of children. If children are at a very young age an adapted psychoanalytic technique maybe necessary. In some cases parent-infant psychotherapy is a possibility. Two techniques will be discussed: Parent-Infant Psychotherapy and Mentaliseren Bevorderende Kinder Therapies (MBKT). Parent-Infant Psychotherapy addresses problems with normal relationships between parent and child. MBKT addresses problems with an infant's ability to distinguish reality and fantasy.

Parent-Infant Psychotherapy

If the normal course of secure attachment between parent and infant is disrupted, parent-infant psychotherapy is one technique that can be used to restore this bond. This technique requires a three-way relationship between the parent, child and therapist. During the therapy sessions the parent expresses his or her thoughts and feelings which are based on a combination of factors including:

The parent's experiences as a child
The parent's expectations and hopes for the child's future
The relationships the parent has with other people

The therapist's role is as an observer and an interpreter of the interaction between the infant and the parent. He might share some of his thoughts about the behaviour of the child with the parent and by doing so offering the parent an alternative way of experiencing the child. This technique helps the parent to resolve issues with his or her own infancy-experiences in order to restore secure attachment with the infant. And it helps lower the risk for psycho pathological developments of the child in the future.

Crying as a means of communication

Crying is the first form of baby talk. It is your baby's only way of communicating to you, whether she is hungry, lonely, tired, wet, uncomfortable, too hot, too cold, or just generally frustrated. Though it may seem impossible initially, you will learn to a certain extent to differentiate between your baby's different cries and decipher what it is she wants. In time, your baby will become more self-reliant and a better communicator and you will become more proficient at interpreting her cries. She will cry less often and for shorter periods and be more easily comforted.

Crying from hunger

Most of the time that the baby is crying, it is because of hunger. Some parents begin to recognize the cry of hunger at a very early age. It has been observed that the feeling of a full stomach gives a baby the most comfort. not the act of feeding, swallowing or being held.

Crying because of fatigue

Babies often cry themselves to sleep because of fatigue. Parents need not be concerned, as babies will eventually outgrow this habit. Attempting to soothe the baby by picking her up or trying to pacify her with a dummy is not advisable. This will make it more difficult for her to learn to fall asleep on her own. A regular bedtime routine and adequate rest during the day should help.

Crying because of indigestion

Babies also often cry because of colic pain. This does not mean that the baby is colicky. When babies cry with a genuine colic pain, it means that they have some form of indigestion in their system.

If the baby is on formula milk and if you have just introduced this brand, it is possible that this particular brand of formula milk is not suiting her. But before you make the hasty decision of switching brands, see if this pattern continues for a couple more days. If she is exclusively on breastmilk, some people believe it could be as a result of something heavy (difficult to digest) that the mother has eaten. If the baby has already been introduced to solids, it may be helpful to analyze the baby's food intake throughout the day and try to identify some food/foods that could be the cause of this indigestion.

In order to relieve this pain, many Indian mothers prefer to give their babies gripe water. Although the medical benefits of gripe are not clear, (i) it may help the mother feel better that she has tried to soothe the baby; and (ii) it may also help in distracting the baby a little, since gripe water has a nice sweet taste

Crying because she needs to be burped

Babies often feel uncomfortable because they have swallowed air. Parents can take a few precautionary measures to prevent this happening. Babies will swallow less air if you keep them upright as much as possible during feeding and burping. The right-size teat hole on a bottle will also reduce air intake. Burp the baby regularly during feeds in order to expel swallowed air. Applying light pressure to the baby's abdomen (by laying her across your lap, tummy down, or upright against your shoulder) while patting or rubbing her back has also been known to be effective.

Crying for apparently no reason at all

Sometimes though you have taken care of all your baby's basic needs, she just will not stop crying. Some studies indicate that four out of five babies have daily crying sessions lasting from 15 minutes to an hour for no apparent reason. These crying jags usually occur in the evening that tends to be the busiest time of the day. There may be a lot of noise and activity as the rest of the family returns home and prepares to settle down for the evening. Babies often cannot tolerate this heightened hustle and bustle. For the baby it could be the end of a tiring day, taking in new sights, sounds and smells. After the sensory overload, the baby would like to relax by having a good cry.

If a baby's cry is inexplicably high-pitched, it could indicate illness.
