Well the weather has certainly taken a winter turn as of late, and we get that little bit closer to 'PowPow' and 'Kicker Time'. Sweeeeet like a 'slush puppy tropicana'!!

Avalaan will once agin rock the Metro Ski and Snowboard show in Olympia, London. True to style we there will be some live art going down from the Avalaan art collective and we are showcasing all our new AW09 outerwear and street wear. You might even be able to pick up a few of the limited pieces available if you hurry.

So come on over and find us, before it all runs out like last year...

Smokelife have spent the summer touring the UK from festival to festival, throwing down sets, and illegal private parties all over the place as their fan base grows.

Avalaan have launched 'Lifestyle TV', our very own multi-media platform to show you all the antics we get up here at Avalaan.

Avalaan Lifestyle TV will bring you little snippets, stories, documentaries and edits from all of the Avalaan Familia, across many activities and sports. Each little episode is put together by a varying cinematographer, filmographer, artist or athlete and so will showcase a variety of work and styles, which is what Avalaan is all about! We hope that these little edits will bring you one step closer to Avalaan and keep you up to date with your Familia Favourites!! Keep checking back as we will regularly upload new videos. Taking place at the brand spanking new Metropolis Club on Stokes Croft; and in association with the Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft; an elaborate array of independant fashion designers; including Ben's Sister, Dutty Clothing, Spunky, Ben’s Sister, Gilly Woo herself and Avalaan all converged to put on a display of style, fashion, funk, class, and creativity like never before seen on the streets of Bristol city!!

With Avalaan's fresh new female product designer, Liesel Corp, taking the reigns of styling, she moulded 16 beautiful boys and girls into two great Avalaan cat walk shows for both men and women. Taking the pick from Avalaan's new collections of street wear and outewear for skiers and snowboarders, we showed Bristol how to do it with Ava'style. With more color than a bag of 'Liquorice All Sorts', and more funk than 'James Brown' the models strutted their way down the catwalk to songs by SmokeLife and Eveson.

Avalaan recently supported a small relief expedition to Kenya, Africa. Although we are not in a position to do much, and we are not pretentious enough to think that offering a few tee shirts is going to solve Africa's problem, we do understand the importance of highlighting issues that require global attention and the stark difference in quality of living between the 'Wealthy West' and developing nations. Note, I said quality of ''living'', and not ''quality of life'' as the expedition leader commented:

'It did not seem to matter to these kids what their environment was like, they were all smiles and just happy to be alive. I think we can learn a lot from the people we met, when it comes to the requirements of living and how to build a happy sustainable community with common goals for all people.'

Here is a brief description of what went down.

The volunteers undertook marine and wildlife conservation, building and teaching projects. In addition to the wildlife and adventurous elements, the party was heavily involved in marine and wild life conservation projects as well as building and teaching projects in the communities of Sasenyi, Muhaka, N’gonzini & Chanukeni. During their visit they also taught classes about a host of conservation issues and coached several sports.

In temperatures exceeding 30oC. they were involved in building new classrooms (laying bricks and plastering walls and laying new floors). Hot Hot Hot!!!

They also dug a 26 foot deep hole or ‘long drop’, the beginnings of a new community lavatory! They cleared an area of forest for a new cultural centre, chiseled out the concrete base of a massive watering trough for elephants and re-lined it, erected a 300m barbed wire fence, planted 500 indigenous hard wood trees and built part of a new Rangers’ post to help curb poaching. During one particular visit to the Mwaluganje Elephant sanctuary they even spent a memorable afternoon ‘worming’ about 100 goats and making elephant dung paper! They worked extremely hard but have said it was rewarding to be part of something that was of 'real benefit' to a community, with real tangible results.

As a result of the expedition sponsors they were specifically able to support the efforts of the Imani Women’s Cooperative in liberating women from their financial dependence on ‘traditionalist’ husbands. They also helped to purchase the materials for the Rangers’ Post (now called ‘Ballard Point’), delivered much needed educational and sporting aid to three schools, provided clothing and toys for the Chanukeni orphanage and sponsored the medical treatment of a parasitic foot infection (Jiggers) whilst there.

A small amount of money was left out of the £3000 that was raised and it is the party leader's hope that, with the Expedition members’ approval, they will send it to the ‘Camps Trust’ to be used to purchase beds for the 45 children at the Chanukeni orphanage; they currently sleep on reed mats on a hard baked mud floor!

So remember, the fact that you are even reading this story on a computer, through the internet means you are better off than these people; and yet i bet, probably more depressed. So be happy with what you have and remember to keep smiling, whatever the weather.
