Como na altura não tínhamos meio de o saber, utilizámos o valor de 9,8 m/s&lt;sup&gt;2&lt;/sup&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Pedi para os alunos procurarem confirmação para o valor. Fique a saber que cursos existem e em que universidades. Repare no número de vagas e nas médias do último que entrou. A teoria de que fala é a Electrodinâmica Quântica, ou QED, um dos pilares da física, que descreve as interacções entre a luz e a matéria e é uma das mais bem sucedidas na previsão das propriedades dos átomos. Os cálculos de que fala são aqueles que, a partir dessa teoria, permitem calcular o tamanho (o raio) do protão, um dos constituintes de base dos átomos. A constante de que fala é uma constante física fundamental, chamada constante de Rydberg e cujo valor também está ligado ao tamanho do protão. Porque uma equipa internacional de cientistas, entre os quais a de Joaquim Santos (onde se incluem também investigadores da Universidade de Aveiro) publica hoje na revista “Nature” um resultado que mostra que o protão poderá ser mais pequeno do que se pensava.       &lt;br /&gt;Hoje em dia, o raio do protão é conhecido com uma precisão de apenas um por cento, principalmente através da espectroscopia feita ao átomo de hidrogénio (que não é senão um protão com um electrão à volta). E o que os 32 investigadores da equipa – do Instituto Max Planck, na Alemanha; do Instituto Paul Scherrer e do ETH Zurique, ambos na Suíça; do Laboratório Kastler Brossel em Paris; dos EUA e de Taiwan; e de Coimbra e Aveiro – pretendiam era aumentar essa precisão de um por cento para um por mil, acrescentando mais uma casa decimal ao valor oficial em vigor, que é de 0,8768 femtometros (milésimos de bilionésimo de metro). “Precisávamos de melhorar a precisão porque [as previsões] da teoria QED estão limitadas pela precisão do raio do protão”, explica Joaquim Santos. Só que, quando o mediram, o valor que obtiveram estava vários pontos percentuais abaixo do previsto. O novo valor, obtido através de um dispositivo experimental novo e muito sofisticado, é de 0,84184 femtometros – ou seja, cerca de quatro por cento mais pequeno. Estes professores estão de acordo que os estudantes não estão menos inteligentes, apenas infantilizados e subaproveitados.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Ora, nem de propósito. Hoje vem publicado no Público um interessante artigo sobre este mesmo tema: &lt;a href="http://www.publico.pt/Educa%C3%A7%C3%A3o/estudantes-tem-cada-vez-mais-dificuldades-de-base-a-matematica_1443028" target="_blank"&gt;Estudantes têm cada vez mais dificuldades de base a Matemática (Falhas na preparação dos alunos estão a afectar cursos)&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Este é um tema que sobe de importância se atendermos ao facto de muitos estudantes estarem, muito em breve, a realizar as suas candidaturas ao ensino superior, enquanto que outros estarão a decidir a área em que irão prosseguir estudos no secundário e outros ainda estão a pensar quais as disciplinas opcionais que irão seleccionar no 12º ano.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Segue parte do artigo que, apesar de focar a Matemática, encontra grande paralelismo com a situação da Física e da Química.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;blockquote&gt;   &lt;p align="justify"&gt;(…) Estamos a falar de um problema que afecta cada vez mais os “caloiros” nas universidades. O PÚBLICO ouviu vários professores universitários portugueses que leccionam cadeiras onde “o bicho-de-sete-cabeças” é central. &lt;strong&gt;Confrontam-se, diariamente, com alunos “sem hábitos de trabalho e sem espírito de sacrifício”. E temem os efeitos desta “cultura de facilitismo”. &lt;/strong&gt;(…)&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Uma opinião corroborada por Paulo de Carvalho, que lecciona Teoria da Informação e Computação Gráfica na licenciatura em Engenharia Informática na Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra. “Classifico-os como uma geração wikipedia: &lt;strong&gt;satisfazem-se muito facilmente com conhecimentos superficiais&lt;/strong&gt;”, explica o docente de 42 anos, a dar aulas há 19 anos. “&lt;strong&gt;Há ausência de consolidação de conceitos e os alunos estão viciados no uso da calculadora&lt;/strong&gt;.”&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Ana Isabel Filipe, do departamento de Matemática e Aplicações da Escola de Ciências Universidade do Minho, que tem dado cadeiras de Álgebra Linear, Análise Matemática e Cálculo em cursos na área das engenharias, faz uma radiografia: “&lt;strong&gt;Os alunos estão dentro de cursos que não gostam. Procuram um curso com empregabilidade e ocupam a vaga de quem até tinha uma nota menor mas tinha gosto. Estão todos fora do sítio&lt;/strong&gt;”, explica a professora de 55 anos que dá aulas desde 1978.&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;O Instituto Superior Técnico, da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, não é excepção&lt;/strong&gt;. Luísa Ribeiro, docente do departamento de Matemática que tem leccionado cadeiras como Cálculo Diferencial e Integral em várias engenharias, admite que os alunos mudaram. &lt;strong&gt;Fizeram há dois anos uma prova de aferição&lt;/strong&gt; para perceberem as suas dificuldades. &lt;strong&gt;Uma das perguntas – que servia para “aquecer” – era quanto é um meio mais um meio e a resposta era de escolha múltipla. Cerca de 27 por cento falhou&lt;/strong&gt;. Em jeito de ironia Luísa Ribeiro, de 53 anos, assume que chegam “infantilizados”, o que não estranha tendo em conta que “até a idade pediátrica foi alargada até aos 18 anos”. “&lt;strong&gt;Em algum lado têm de começar a ser responsáveis. Têm uma preparação de uma pessoa de início de secundário ou pior.&lt;/strong&gt; São ensinados a não pensar e isso em Matemática é desastroso. Foram treinados como um cãozinho para um exame”, diz Luísa Ribeiro. (…)&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Para estes docentes um dos “culpados” é o (ab) uso da calculadora. “Explico- lhes que não é nenhum oráculo e que a Matemática é simples mas exige trabalho. É preciso treinar o raciocínio abstracto e a verdade é que já nem sabem somar fracções, multiplicar potências...”, prossegue Luísa Ribeiro, que critica o facto de “tudo se fazer para ter estatísticas de sucesso sem nunca defi nir o que é sucesso”.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;(…) Ana Rute Domingos também sublinha que ao disseminar-se a ideia de que o ensino tem de ser muito divertido esqueceu-se a importância, por exemplo, da memorização. (…) &lt;strong&gt;Ressalva, no entanto, que os alunos de hoje não são menos inteligentes, “não se trabalha é o que têm”.&lt;/strong&gt; Um factor que Paulo de Carvalho também não coloca em causa. “Os alunos são igualmente inteligentes. A formação é que é o problema. &lt;strong&gt;Na década de 1990 instalou-se a ideia romântica de que a aprendizagem tem de dar prazer e isso não é uma verdade absoluta.&lt;/strong&gt; Vivemos um problema de inteligência pública”, defende. (…) “&lt;strong&gt;Criou-se a ideia de que a aprendizagem não é dolorosa. Há um culto do facilitismo e de desvalorizar o conhecimento que se acentuou com os cursos de três anos&lt;/strong&gt;”, conclui Oliveira Martins. &lt;a href="Saber a tabuada de cor, resolver uma equa&amp;ccedil;&amp;atilde;o, fazer contas com par&amp;ecirc;ntesis, calcular uma raiz quadrada &amp;agrave; m&amp;atilde;o, somar frac&amp;ccedil;&amp;otilde;es ou multiplicar pot&amp;ecirc;ncias s&amp;atilde;o algumas das difi culdades que os estudantes t&amp;ecirc;m a Matem&amp;aacute;tica. Este Lip Dub consistiu em apresentar a escola num filme sem cortes, onde as pessoas vão fazendo playback.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;O Lip Dub conta com a presença de Domigos dos IRIS autor de um tema de grande sucesso nacional na década de 90, &lt;strong&gt;“Atira tó mar”&lt;/strong&gt;. Dessas colisões resultará a maior concentração de energia jamais alcançada pelo Homem. &lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;O Pavilhão do Conhecimento-Ciência Viva estará em ligação permanente com o Centro de Controlo do CERN para transmissão em directo dos testes do LHC.&lt;/strong&gt;       &lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;No auditório, presencialmente, físicos portugueses de altas energias irão comentar a transmissão ao longo do dia.&lt;/strong&gt; Gaspar Barreira (LIP), Jorge Romão e Gustavo Castelo Branco (Centro de Física Teórica de Partículas, IST), Augusto Barroso (Centro de Física Teórica e Computacional, UL) e Jorge Dias de Deus (CENTRA, IST) são alguns dos físicos que responderam ao desafio de nos ajudar a compreender a importância destes testes e das experiências previstas no LHC para o nosso conhecimento da Física e do Universo.       &lt;br /&gt;Os investigadores Ana Henriques (CERN) e André David (LIP) participam por videoconferência a partir do CERN. &lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;O &lt;a href="http://www.cienciaviva.pt/temosCiencia/lhc.asp" target="_blank"&gt;LHC&lt;/a&gt; é constituído por um anel de 27 quilómetros de circunferência na fronteira franco-suíça, a 100 m de profundidade, refrigerado à temperatura de -271,4 ºC, muito próximo do zero absoluto. Em laboratórios subterrâneos ao longo deste anel estão instalados quatro grandes conjuntos de detectores (ALICE, ATLAS, CMS e LHCb), onde vão ocorrer colisões entre protões deslocando-se a uma velocidade muito próxima da velocidade da luz no vácuo, cerca de 300.000 quilómetros por segundo. &lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Em todo o mundo os físicos aguardam com expectativa os resultados dos testes para poderem dar início às suas experiências. O caso não é para menos, pois espera-se com o LHC tentar recriar as condições de temperatura e densidade de energia existentes no início do Universo, há cerca de 13,7 mil milhões de anos.      &lt;br /&gt;Para além do conhecimento, que poderemos alcançar com estas experiências? - consiste basicamente numa ilustração no computador, de forma gráfica, do fenómeno do Equilíbrio Químico.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Permite visualizar as alterações produzidas em sistemas químicos gasosos por alterações de concentrações de reagentes ou produtos, temperatura do sistema ou pressão (volume) a que o sistema está sujeito, em conformidade com o &lt;strong&gt;Princípio de Le Chatelier&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;img style="border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="LeChat_equilibrio_1" border="0" alt="LeChat_equilibrio_1" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_aTH7N3_trjA/S6T7X1lykeI/AAAAAAAABlw/AaUmjtRTkjA/LeChat_equilibrio_1_thumb%5B6%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="620" height="219" /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Segue-se uma explicação deste Princípio, &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/eqq_hiper_texto_04_5.html" target="_blank"&gt;retirado daqui&lt;/a&gt;:&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;blockquote&gt;   &lt;p align="justify"&gt;As diferentes formas de alterar um estado de equilíbrio para uma reacção química têm uma coisa em comum:&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;ul&gt;     &lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;b&gt;Um sistema em equilíbrio responde a qualquer perturbação com uma alteração que tende a contrariar a perturbação a que foi sujeito.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;/ul&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;De facto:&amp;#160; &lt;em&gt;(sugiro que siga as várias hiperligações de forma a obter explicações muito importantes para uma eficaz compreensão)&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;ul&gt;     &lt;li&gt;       &lt;div align="justify"&gt;A perturbação &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/aum_concentracao.html" target="_blank"&gt;aumento de concentração&lt;/a&gt; de um componente do &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/sistema.html" target="_blank"&gt;sistema&lt;/a&gt; é seguida de &lt;b&gt;consumo&lt;/b&gt; desse componente, até se atingir um novo estado de equilíbrio. &lt;/div&gt;     &lt;/li&gt;      &lt;li&gt;       &lt;div align="justify"&gt;A perturbação &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/aum_temperatura.html"&gt;aumento de temperatura&lt;/a&gt; favorece a transformação em que há absorção de calor, o que tende a fazer &lt;b&gt;diminuir&lt;/b&gt; a &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/temperatura.html" target="_blank"&gt;temperatura&lt;/a&gt; do &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/sistema.html" target="_blank"&gt;sistema&lt;/a&gt;. &lt;/div&gt;     &lt;/li&gt;      &lt;li&gt;       &lt;div align="justify"&gt;A perturbação &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/red_volume.html" target="_blank"&gt;diminuição de volume&lt;/a&gt; de uma mistura gasosa, com consequente &lt;b&gt;aumento&lt;/b&gt; do número de moléculas por unidade de volume (e, assim, &lt;b&gt;aumenta&lt;/b&gt; a &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/pressao.html" target="_blank"&gt;pressão&lt;/a&gt; do sistema), é seguida da transformação no sentido em que &lt;b&gt;diminui&lt;/b&gt; o número de moléculas (assim, tendendo a &lt;b&gt;diminuir&lt;/b&gt; a pressão do &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/sistema.html" target="_blank"&gt;sistema&lt;/a&gt;). &lt;/div&gt;     &lt;/li&gt;   &lt;/ul&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;A generalização acima feita deve-se a &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/figuras/04_5_henri_le_chatelier.html" target="_blank"&gt;Le Chatelier&lt;/a&gt; e é justamente conhecida por Princípio de Le Chatelier.&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;O efeito de &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/pressao.html" target="_blank"&gt;pressão&lt;/a&gt; acima mencionado merece dois comentários adicionais. Primeiro, faz-se notar que este efeito de pressão é-o aliado a &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/var_volume.html" target="_blank"&gt;variações de volume&lt;/a&gt; do &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/sistema.html" target="_blank"&gt;sistema&lt;/a&gt;, pois são estas que implicam alterações nas concentrações das espécies em equilíbrio. Não é o efeito decorrente de se adicionar, sem variação de volume, outro gás que nada tenha a ver com a reacção.&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Por exemplo, o equilíbrio N&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt;(g) + 3H&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt;(g) &lt;img alt="seta dupla" align="absMiddle" src="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/img/seta_dupla.gif" width="19" height="17" /&gt; 2NH&lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt;(g) não é alterado por adição do gás inerte árgon, ainda que, com isso, a &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/pressao.html" target="_blank"&gt;pressão&lt;/a&gt; total do &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/sistema.html" target="_blank"&gt;sistema&lt;/a&gt; aumente. É que, não havendo &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/var_volume.html" target="_blank"&gt;variação de volume&lt;/a&gt;, as concentrações dos gases N&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt;, H&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt;, NH&lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt; (e, também, as pressões parciais) não variam. Também não é o aumento de pressão total decorrente de aumento de &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/temperatura.html" target="_blank"&gt;temperatura&lt;/a&gt; que está a ser considerado.&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Por outro lado, é de notar que a diminuição do número de moles de gases como consequência de uma &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/red_volume.html"&gt;diminuição de volume&lt;/a&gt; - aumento de &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/pressao.html" target="_blank"&gt;pressão&lt;/a&gt; - se corresponde a uma tentativa do sistema em diminuir a sua pressão, pode, também, ser considerada uma tentativa do sistema em diminuir o seu volume. O fenómeno central, aqui, é que um &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/hipertexto/notes/aum_concentracao.html" target="_blank"&gt;aumento de concentração&lt;/a&gt; &lt;b&gt;global&lt;/b&gt; de todas as espécies se traduz numa alteração que tende a contrariar esse aumento.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;/blockquote&gt;  &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Ao iniciar o programa existe uma janela em que está explicado o seu funcionamento (bastante simples). &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/eqq_downloads/lechat21.zip" target="_blank"&gt;Pode descarregá-lo aqui&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Existem &lt;strong&gt;roteiros que permitem utilizar o programa de forma orientada&lt;/strong&gt; e que pode &lt;a href="http://nautilus.fis.uc.pt/wwwqui/equilibrio/port/lechat2/eqq_lechat2_roteiros.html" target="_blank"&gt;encontrar aqui&lt;/a&gt;.
