		<description>Il Telescopio Spaziale non si stanca mai di scoprire oggetti sempre più strani. Ora è stata la volta di un pianeta “cometario”. Un gigantesco corpo planetario gassoso, chiamato HD 209458b, orbita così vicino alla sua stella che l’atmosfera riesce a scappare e formare una lunga coda.

		<description>Utilizzando il VLT dell’ESO, un gruppo di astronomi ha scoperto la stella più massiccia mai osservata finora. Il mostro, con la sua massa circa 300 volte superiore a quella del Sole, ha nettamente superato il record precedente (150 masse solari), giudicato il limite massimo nella formazione stellare.

		<description>I quasar sono oggetti talmente luminosi che superano di molto la luce proveniente dalle centinaia di milioni di stelle che compongono la galassia che li ospita.  Questo fatto rende molto difficile studiare le caratteristiche della galassia dominata com’è dal buco nero super massiccio che risiede nel suo “cuore”. Oggi si è potuto finalmente ottenere un notevole risultato invertendo i ruoli degli attori di un classico “effetto lente”.

		<description>Il Galaxy Evolution Explorer della NASA ha scoperto una “coda” collegata a una galassia costellata di stelle appena nate. Il gigantesco filamento si è creato quando la galassia IC 3418 è entrata  nell’affollato ammasso della Vergine. Ancora una volta si scoprono nuovi meccanismi che portano alla nascita di stelle. E’ proprio vero che la vita ha una forza dirompente, su qualsiasi scala sia rappresentata.

		<description>Nello Spazio sembra proprio che le cose più piccole siano spesso le più importanti. Un caso tipico è il neutrino, una delle particelle fondamentali più elusive e misteriose. Una nuova ricerca sulle distribuzione delle galassie pone un limite superiore alla massa del neutrino: al massimo sembrerebbe avere un valore pari alla metà di quanto pensato finora. Eppure la sua importanza per stabilire il futuro dell’Universo è incontestabile.
