I’ve been listening to too many comic related podcasts, apparently. Immediately (read: two months later) following up my Spiderman post comes a Harley Quinn drawing. I thought it would be fun to try my hand at a painted comic look, like Alex Ross and others have done. I don’t understand lighting well enough to get the same results that those guys do, but I think this is one of my better pieces.

The pose was meant to imply that she’s off-balance, both in a physical sense (that she’s goofing off) and also in the mental sense. No idea if that’s conveyed well or if the pose just looks weird. =P

I’ve been practicing drawing women a bit, and figured I would color and post one of the sketches I’d done. I haven’t collected comics in a long time, but every now and then I get the urge to doodle a sketch of two of some of my favorites, and Spidey has always been at the top of that list. As for her, I elected to draw more of a ‘girl next door’ Mary Jane rather than the hugely endowed ’supermodel’ Mary Jane I remember from my days collecting back in the early nineties. Sorry to disappoint. =P

I’ve been playing the hell out of Warcraft lately, so naturally it’s been on my mind a lot. I thought I’d try drawing up a Warcraft related image in the style of the portrait images I’ve done.

Quickie post. Just snagged one of my sketches and touched it up a bit (and splashed in some color).

I’ve been playing with the idea of doing a comic with my wife (cause I’m doing so well with starting up my regular comic again). Here’s a style I’ve been playing around with for it.

So far my wife isn’t sold on this style, so I’m still tweaking. I enjoy drawing it though, so I might use it elsewhere.

I’m pretty sure I have my cast all hammered out now. I was starting to have doubts about how they’d all look together, so I duplicated an image I’d done a few years ago to compare which ones I liked best. All around I enjoy the new look more. The experiment was a success!

I thought I’d try a deviation from my usual art style. I find it fascinating that no matter how much I try, every new style I try ends up having strong resemblances to my usual style.

I think I’ve settled on this as the new design for Kaigon, from my Chipmunk Bay comic strip. Chubbier, with more droop to his posture. The shirt image is different, but I doubt I’ll change that in the final version.

I think I finally have the new look for Jacob hashed out. I’m trying to create a slightly different look to all of my Chipmunk Bay characters so that they’re more instantly recognizably different from one another than they currently are. I decided to make Jacob’s face a more rectangular than it was before, and elongate it somewhat. I’m still not sure I REALLY want to go through with the design change, but I think it’ll help my art grow if I force the change. Hopefully readers will embrace the change.
