Depending on one’s budget and tastes, there are many choices available in today’s oil painting market. Fine art auction houses exist in most American cities, and may be a good starting point for serious collectors and people buying art as an investment. For the buyer who cannot afford an original Renoir or Monet, but who wants to enjoy looking at an oil reproduction instead of a paper reprint, there are countless companies that commission skilled artists to paint such reproductions.

If one is less sure of what one wants, some companies have extensive online galleries to help a person decide if a particular style or theme works. Some companies also accept orders for custom oil paintings, which could be portraits of people or pets, oil reproductions from a favorite photograph, or anything else that catches the customer’s fancy.

For a new collector, one way to get an idea about styles and prices of original oil paintings or valuable reproductions is to visit commercial art galleries and auction houses. Shows by new artists can provide opportunities to buy original art at a reasonable price. Online auctions may be another way to find good value for money. Unless trained to appraise art, investors are probably better off asking an expert art appraiser to help them find oil paintings that are likely to provide a good return on their investment. The same rule applies if you are planning to sell an oil painting.

The Internet has opened up a global oil painting market, letting people buy oil paintings from distant cultures. Many online sites that sell oil paintings let a customer search by category, theme, size and type of painting surface. Most large cities also have fine art liquidators that hold auctions periodically. Such auctions may provide the opportunity to get some good deals on oil painting reproductions.

In this material we shall discuss how to choose the best keyboard for you. I get lots of emails from visitors to my web site asking what keyboard they should choose. They often want to know whether they should choose one particular keyboard over another. Well choosing the best keyboard for you does not have to be difficult at all. As long as you know and understand the features that you really need, it’s a simple matter of buying a keyboard that comes with these features. And there’s no need to pay extra for features that you will never have use for.

Here’s a checklist for choosing the best keyboard for you. Understand what these features are all about and you can choose your keyboard according to them. These features are as follows:

Number of keys – 32, 49, 61, 76, 88
Keyboard touch response
Display – color, score, lyrics, 640×480 dot matrix
Recording capability – 16-track recording capability
Yamaha Education Suite
GM, XF, XG, or XG Lite compatibility
Standard features such as metronome, tuning, and transpose
Polyphony – 16 or less, 32-64, 96-128, or more than 128
Vocal harmony
Guide lamp
Internet connectivity

Professional piano players, serious pianists and piano students should buy 88 key keyboards. But if portability is an issue, the best keyboard for you would probably be a 61 or 76 key keyboard. If you’re looking to save money, a keyboard with less keys may be your best bet.

Personally I think touch response is very important. In fact, I wouldn’t buy a keyboard that didn’t come with this feature. With touch response, your keyboard will feel and sound like an acoustic piano. The more pressure you apply the louder your keyboard will sound, and the less pressure, the softer. Some keyboards take touch sensitivity one step further with a feature called Graded Hammer Effect where the keys are heavier in the bass and lighter in the higher registers of the keyboard just like an acoustic piano.

Knowing what kind of display you really want makes it easy to choose the right keyboard for you. It’s really about personal preferences. You have various choices when it comes to a display. These include color display, backlit display, one that displays lyrics and score, or even a 640×480 dot matrix display. Or how about a keyboard that comes with a touch screen?

Do you need a keyboard that comes with recording capability or not? There are many options available from simple 2 track sequencers to 16 track sequencers. The more tracks the better. These are great for practice as well as professional arrangements and compositions.

Yamaha keyboards come with a feature called Yamaha Education Suite that is very good for students. If you’re buying a keyboard for a child or student, you may want to buy one with this feature. It actually teaches one how to play the keyboard with its various keyboard lessons.

Polyphony is another important feature. Polyphony has to do with the number of notes that can play together simultaneously. If your playing is such that you’re only using one or two voices at a time you can get away with low polyphony. But if you’re doing complex sequences it becomes an issue, and the more polyphony the better. Polyphony choices include 16 or less, 32 to 64, 98-128, and 128 and over.

If you’re a student you will find Yamaha’s guide lamp very useful. With this feature the keys light up as you play, indicating where you should place your fingers.

Understanding what terms like GM, XF, XG, and XG Lite stand for will make it easier to choose the best keyboard for you. Other standard features include metronome, tuning and transpose.

If want to harness the power of the Internet your best keyboard should be one that connects directly to the Internet. Some Yamaha keyboards come with a feature called Internet Direct Connect (IDC) that allows you to do just that.

Whether you’re a beginner, professional, teacher, gift giver, religious, or simply want a piano replacement, choosing the right keyboard for you shouldn’t be difficult at all. As long as you know what to look for the rest comes easy.

Not sure what’s happening with me on this one, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better Not To Late gets. Not To Late simply put is one of Norah Jones’ best CDs to date.

Norah Jones has been a super star in the Pop genre for quite some time now and Not To Late is an excellent illustration as to why.

These days it’s a very rare CD on which every single song is good or better than the one before it. This CD is certainly one of those rare CDs.

Listen to Not To Late and I believe you’ll find there’s not much to dis-like about it. The songs are inspired, the production is simply outstanding, and Norah Jones’s voice is in top form. If you’re even mildly into Pop music you’ll enjoy this album.

While this entire album is really very good the truly standout tracks are Wish I Could [track 1], The Sun Doesn’t Like You [track 3], and My Dear Country [track 8].

My SmoothLee Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 6, Thinking About You. This is a great track!

Not To Late Release Notes:

Norah Jones originally released Not To Late on Jan 30, 2007 on the Blue Note Records label.

CD Track List Follows:

1. Wish I Could
2. Sinkin’ Soon
3. The Sun Doesn’t Like You
4. Until The End
5. Not My Friend
6. Thinking About You
7. Broken
8. My Dear Country
9. Wake Me Up
10. Be My Somebody
11. Little Room
12. Rosie’s Lullaby
13. Not Too Late

Personnel include: Norah Jones (vocals, piano, Wurlitzer piano); Daru Oda (vocals, whistle); Jesse Harris (acoustic guitar); Kevin Breit (mandolin); Julia Kent, Jeffrey Zeigler (cello); Larry Goldings (Hammond b-3 organ); Lee Alexander (bass instrument); Tony Mason, Andrew Borger (drums).

The digital photography revolution is allowing the average person to participate in every part of the photo process from taking the photo all the way to printing it out. For some, the process may seem kind of complicated but it’s actually very simple and easy to do. So here is a step by step guide on how to take and edit your digital photos.

The first step is to have a digital camera that will produce clear and sharp photos. For most consumers that means a camera that has between 4 – 6 megapixels of resolution. With this kind of resolution, you can print out high quality photos right on up to about 8 X 10 in size, which is more than enough for the needs of most people.

Once you have taken your photos you can either print them out straight from the camera as snapshots if you have a photo printer with the PictBridge feature that lets you connect directly to the printer from your camera, or you can take the media card out and insert that into the printer for printing instead. A lot of times you can actually make simple edits in your camera before printing that allow you to rotate the images if needed or maybe some simple cropping as well.

But if you want the highest quality prints you can upload the photos from your camera into a digital photo editing software program on your computer where you can crop the photos any way that you wish to eliminate unwanted sections of the photo, and adjust the color, sharpness and contrast along with lots of other special effects too. Then you can save the photo files on your computer, and wipe the media card in your camera clean for reuse the next time you want to take some photos.

Afterward, you can then print the saved photo files out on your photo printer. Most photo printers are capable of turning out extremely high quality images that have great contrast and color saturation, oftentimes rivaling those that come from a processing lab.

After printing, you can then take the saved image files on your computer and even send them to family and friends easily and quickly by email. All they have to do is just load them up and print them out on their printer if they wish, or the digital images can also be used for web pages or computer screensavers.

So as you can see the process of taking a digital photo and getting from the camera to a print is not all that involved, and once you have done it a few times it will become second nature to you. Of course, you can always choose the level of sophistication that you wish to use in producing each print too. If you wish to keep things simple you can still get great results while you do. And if you want to turn out more professional results, that is also possible.

Thad Pickering writes on many consumer related topics including digital photography. You can find

The Hero’s Journey (Monomyth) is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. In fact, ALL of the hundreds of Hollywood movies we have deconstructed (see URL below) are based on this 188 stage template.

Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters. This is the template you must master if you are to succeed in the craft.

[The terminology is most often metaphoric and applies to all successful stories and screenplays, from The Godfather (1972) to Brokeback Mountain (2006) to Annie Hall (1977) to Lord of the Rings (2003) to Drugstore Cowboy (1989) to Thelma and Louise (1991) to Apocaplyse Now (1979)].

THERE IS ONLY ONE STORY

THE HERO’S JOURNEY:

a) Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

b) Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

c) Gives you a tangible process for building and releasing dissonance (establishing and achieving catharses, of which there are usually four).

d) Gives you a universal structural template upon which you can superimpose your situational story.

and more…

ABRIDGED TIP(S):

*****Freedom to Live*****

Balance is restored. Danger Eliminated. Neither the Hero nor the Township are in danger.

Physical expressions of joy and relaxation mark the end of the antagonism. In Alien (1979), Ripley relaxes and smiles with Jones the cat.

There is appreciation for life. In Blade Runner (1982), Roy learns the value of life and allows the bird to live and fly free. In Elizabethtown (2005), Drew road-trips the US and really falls in love with and starts to appreciate Claire [incidentally, one of the best Freedom to Live sequences].

There is appreciation for love. In Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), everyone gets married or partnered off in a positive way. In Blade Runner (1982), Deckard elopes with Rachael – they appreciate what time they have together.

First off, just what is convergence?

The word originally came from the world of math and science. Its earliest use was
by a man named William Derham, who was working at trying to measure the speed
of sound by timing the flash and the roar of a cannon. That was in the
1600’s-1700’s.

The term has been used in technology, business, science and journalism –
everything from explaining corporate strategy to Darwin’s “The Origin of
Species” (still a “hot” topic today, what?).

What we want to approach today is convergence in the digital media.
Convergence refers to the power of digital media to combine voice, video, data,
text, and money in new applications, devices and networks.

Television is probably the most amazing invention of mankind. Sending pictures
and sound through the air has a magical quality that challenges the imagination.

Next in line is the computer. This cool electronics – that takes ones and zeros and
turns them into words, pictures, sounds, data – and places them in the palm of your
hand is nothing less than amazing in itself.

You can’t leave out the telephone – which has passed from being connected by
wires to wireless voice, then audio and sounds, then video, then internet, then ….

Convergence. Convergence is taking all of these media and combining
them into one delivery system. Major companies are gearing up for entering into
this new development.

Here are some things coming up through this cool electronics melding:

•	AOL is putting old TV shows on the Internet

•	CBS and NBC are offering current TV shows online – and ABC, Apple and
Disney are putting shows on the new Video iPod

•	Google is into offering video – Chris Rock’s new show premieres online before
it is aired over regular network channels

•	MTV has bought the independent film network iFilm and launches a 24/7
Internet TV Network [MTV Uber]

What does all this mean to you?

With the proper cool electronics coming available, you can expect that within … say
five years … your TV watching will expand beyond network – cable – satellite, and
the private video networks of companies like TiVo and RePlay – to what one person
has called “ubiquitous content.” In other words, any show or video you can think of
will be delivered to you over the Internet. Think 1000 channels?!

And this Internet TV will be delivered to your home TV set (HDTV big screen) and
more. There will be gadgets and devices that hook up your TV set directly to the
Internet to deliver video directly to your set instead of your computer.

Anyone with a camera will be able to upload video to the net. You will see the good,
the bad and the ugly for awhile – but the cream will rise as they always say – and
levels of video will form into communities of like style, ability and value – all
through the new cool electronics that are becoming available now.

Sponsored videos will become more plentiful. One advertiser will supply and
sponsor programs – like the Hallmark Hall of Fame has done since the early days of
broadcasting.

Niche programs will become an important marketing tool for small companies – like
cooking shows sponsored by a local/regional grocery store – or health shows
backed by health food products. Do I hear “infomercial?” They may become the
norm. We can only hope that the creative people in our society will also be
challenged and bring us some real product that we can learn from and enjoy.

There will be improved search capabilities. you will be able to search video content
as well as titles. This will be done by transcribing dialogue into text and stored in a
database. Videos will be searched and rated just like websites are now.

Set-top boxes [like the new Brightbox] will connect you from living room to living
room by video phone and video email. Now you will have to dress up to answer
your email (at least cover up).

A user interface will become the most important feature of your TV because there
will be SO MUCH CONTENT. The interface will make suggestions based on your
mood, your astrological sign or what other people have chosen. This is already
happening in Japan.

Video communities will form to find and present content to fit various fields, moods,
interests, and levels to suit your needs.

Your home TV (DVR, DVD, Tivo, etc.) can be watched on your computer anywhere in
the world with a broadband connection and the cool electronics in devices like the
Slingbox – which is available now.

How about interactive shopping and education?
You watch a program and pause the program to respond to a commercial while you
think about it. Or – you are watching King Kong – you will be able to click on the
“King” and get a lesson about apes and their history.

TV’s are being built now (in Japan) with ethernet connections. this will speed up the
connection convergence.

Of course, the commercial value of TV will not disappear. Unfortunately, it may get
more imbedded in the programming. Shopping will be made easier – with the
ability to see products in real time and real size- or at least closer to real size – and
right from your home set in your living room, kitchen or bedroom. Point and click
and buy with the new cool electronics.

I’m sure there will be many more surprises as this new industry develops. The
emergence of convergence – Internet/TV/Communications – is expected to be the
biggest new industry since the telephone – then TV – then the computer – then the
Internet – then … who knows?

She: “Her Grandma died, she knew she’d
not be around long—“

(she’s trying to clear her throat: a male friend
listening; she turns some pages in her note
book, studying for a test—college stuff ((young
pretty, unwed))

“Is this your first page? before Friday…”
She answers him.

“So you’re back to writing out notes…!”
He answers with a calm voice.

(both students are studying now, not talking,
she’s indicated her previous study partner has
shifted in his moods and she’s no longer able to
handle that.)

“So I told…”—

“Do you think she’s interesting?”

“It would be good for her to do

something with a different….

That’s like my worse fear in a

relationship, to be devoured by it.”

With this lighthearted conversation recorded in time now (once said, it remains said), what will it create: so I think, become part of, forgotten in an hour, building blocks for the residue of creation? So I ask myself.

She says, “Super helpful,” and adds, “whatever,” and he follows in turn…

”I feel I’m developing…”

She says, “You don’t think they are going anywhere?”

She says: “Medicine is not like architecture, which you see after you’re done; it is one person after the other, less joy in what is, and is doing already— all in words spent.” He just listens, it sounds to me she is gearing up for a dreadful career.

Note: I am always surprised how loud everyone talks at the café, as if no one is listening yet I’m sure their echoes would cross the Andes should they be in Peru. And so many people walk around the café with cell phones talking as if no one in the world is listening. I asked myself, tell my self: they are yelling to the world everything. Are they not a little bashful, a little reserved, a ting modest. I mean I could have written several more novels just about what has been said these past ten-years I’ve sat at this café and wrote my books and poetry, and whatever. As are the students and everyone else at the café the same: tables away from me, and talking as if they are in a private room and no one is listening. We are listening, little people, and if I can hear, so can many others. #1259 3/2/06

The MacDonald Brothers
Manager – Louis Walsh
Odds – 80/1 (Outright), 8/1 (Group Winners)

The MacDonald Brothers, Craig at 20 and Brian at 19, are bound to draw comparison from Journey South of last series, but unlike the band that finished in third place, the MacDonald Brothers are up against it early on.

The duo from Ayr in Scotland are rank outsiders to win both the X Factor outright and to do the best out of their group. Their performance on the first live show of ‘Three Times a Lady’ was not met with much enthusiasm by the judges but they escaped finishing in the dreaded bottom two on the night.

The brothers live with their parents and have a half brother from their father’s previous relationship. Their father is one of their biggest influences and taught the boys how to sing and perform. He performed in a band in the past although their mother is not musical at all.

The MacDonald Brothers have sang and played the accordion and fiddle together since they were young children and performed at a school talent contest competition in a Queen tribute band called Cobra. It was then they realised that singing was their passion.

They have taken performing seriously for the past three years, singing at clubs, weddings and some backing vocals work and one of their biggest performances as The MacDonald Brothers was in front of Hugh Grant at the Ceilidh Dance.

Brian lists his musical influences as Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and Metallica while Craig names Elton John, George Michael, Muse and the Scissor Sisters. Craig’s favourite song is Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ while Brian names ‘By The Way’ by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The boys are grateful to reach the final 12 of the X Factor and reflected on some of the less enjoyable jobs they have endured in the past. Craig took a year out because Brian was a year below him at school and rather than go to university at Prestwick Academy immediately, he worked at the Royal Bank of Scotland. However, he names the worst job he had was in an ice cream parlour in Ayr.

Brian’s worst experience in the world of work was as an administrator which saw him stare at a computer screen from 9 to 5 with no opportunities for progression or do anything different.

Should they beat the bookmakers odds and progress in the competition, their ambition is to buy a Lotus, which they describe as the car of their dreams.

June is a high point in the Flat turf season’s roller-coaster journey, and the month’s two major destinations are the two-day Epsom Derby meeting followed by the five days of top-class racing at Royal Ascot.

Now that the wrinkles have been smoothed out of Ascot’s recent construction work, the stage is set for a feast of superb action at the Berkshire course with punters primed to take some big shots at the quality on show while the Derby seems more at home in its recent Saturday slot, rescued from the backwaters of a Wednesday in June and given a perch more in keeping with the modern age.

Epsom lights the blue touch paper with the Group 1 Vodafone Oaks on June 1 and all eyes well be upon Henry Cecil’s Passage Of Time, who looks set to give the master of Warren Place his first fillies’ Classic since Love Divine landed the 2000 Oaks. On the same day the 2006 St Leger hero Sixties Icon is sure to take all the beating in the Coronation Cup, a Group 1 contest over 1m 4f for older horses.

The Vodafone Derby occupies pride of place on June 2 and features a red-hot favourite in the shape of Authorized, a ridiculously easy winner of the Dante Stakes, the Derby’s best trial and barring accidents it is hard to see what can beat the Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained colt. A fluent and easy mover, he has a high cruising speed and more worryingly for all his opponents he also possesses stunning acceleration at the end of his races.

Watching the Derby field stream around Tattenham Corner before launching itself up that long and tilting home straight remains one of Flat racing’s greatest thrills and it seems certain that Authorized will be showing rivals such as Salford Mill and Archipenko, the merest glimpse of his bay flanks before settings sail for classic glory with Frankie Dettori on board.

June 3 is the date and Chantilly the setting for the Prix du Jockey-Club, or French Derby as it is more widely known and the claims of Lawman, a recent Chantilly winner, are hard to resist. Jean-Marie Beguigne’s smart colt may have most to fear from Pascal Bary’s progressive Zambezi Sun, twice a winner at Longchamp this term. Bary boasts an exemplary record in the Jockey Club, winning the race with Celtic Arms, Ragmar, Dream Well, Sulamani and Blue Canari since 1994.

On June 7 the Timeform organization sponsors the Silver Salver Stakes at Haydock in a quiet domestic period while over at Chantilly on June 10 we have the Prix de Diane Hermes, France’s version of the Oaks and this year’s race looks at the mercy of Darjina, the recent last-gasp conqueror of Finsceal Beo in a thrilling finish to the French 1,000 Guineas.

Five of the very best days of Flat racing to be found anywhere in the world begins on June 19 with the first day of Royal Ascot and the day’s highlights are the Group 1 Queen Anne and St James’s Palace Stakes over a mile. In the former contest George Washington could return to action after a barren period at stud to face a stern challenge from Red Evie and Ramonti, the first two home in the Group1 Lockinge Stakes and Manduro, France’s fast-developing mile specialist under Andre Fabre’s watchful gaze. In the Coventry Stakes for two-year-olds Amanda Perrett’s Coasting looks the best of the home-trained challenge, trying avenge the defeat of the same stable’s Jo’Burg in the same race twelve months ago while Ireland’s Henrythenavigator has looked something special so far this season.

On June 20 there may well be an epic struggle of the sexes in the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes when Dylan Thomas locks horns with France’s flying filly Mandesha, the latter looked a performer from out of the top-drawer last term and her connections have signaled their intention of seeking success at Royal Ascot, a move that surely spells trouble for her illustrious rivals.

A huge field is sure to go to post for the Royal Hunt Cup on the 20th and this is one of the meeting’s biggest betting heats. Class and courage feature prominently in the make-up of any would-be winner and those two qualities can be found in Pride of Nation and Wise Dennis.

The Ascot Gold Cup is the highlight on June 21 and this looks like offering Yeats the 2006 hero, a second stayers’ crown. Aidan O’Brien’s classy sort was an easy winner twelve months ago and has looked a cut above most of his rivals in this sluggers’ division. Home-based hero Sergeant Cecil has made the switch from handicaps to pattern class with aplomb and looks the one most likely to give Yeats a scrap while Allegreto is the dark horse of the race.

Friday’s action features the Coronation Stakes, a Group1 race over a mile for the fillies while on the Royal meeting’s closing day the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes might well provide Ask with an ideal opportunity for trainer Sir Michael Stoute to annex this prize once more while in the Wokingham Stakes, James Fanshawe’s late-maturing type Zidane looks best to avenge the narrow and luckless defeat of the same stable’s Firenze in last year’s race.

Finally, June’s action climaxes in France with the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on June 24 where there is a whisper for Andre Fabre’s Royal And Regal while in Britain the Northumberland Plate on June 30 brings the curtain down on a superb month’s action with the race for the Pitmen’s Derby at Newcastle. Trainer Paul Cole has won this contest several times in recent seasons and is aiming to do so again with Strategic Mount, the yard’s classy stayer.

George ASKEW
Age: 19. From: London. Occupation: Student.
George is a former public schoolboy and the son of a former private secretary to the Prince of Wales. He is a great-grandson of the fourth Earl of Ellesmere (through his paternal grandmother, Lady Susan Askew) and his great-uncle was the sixth Duke of Sutherland. One of his father’s cousins married into the Bowes-Lyon family, Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne, and so it has been claimed he is linked to the Queen Mother. He is an aspiring photographer, living on an allowance from his father and he wanted to enter Big Brother because it will be something he’s achieved on his own. He hopes the experience will broaden his mind and allow him meet people who don’t live and hang out in Sloane Square. George loves the socialite clubbing scene, counts Jack and Kelly Osbourne as his drinking partners and his friends include Princess Beatrice of York.

Mikey DALTON
Age: 22. From: Liverpool. Occupation: Model & IT Software Developer.
Mikey is single and is desperate for a girlfriend while in the house. He dislikes ugliness and only enjoys the company of good-looking people. He also hates feminists because “they feel women should be equal in every way and they are always dykes”. Since returning from university, Mikey has been living at home with his family and admits “my mum does all my washing and cooking like a woman should”. When asked why he wanted to appear on Big Brother he said: “there’s never been anyone like me in the house – confident, good looking and can hold a conversation. I think I can do better than others that have been on”. Such is his vanity he chose a more expensive gym to attend because of the better quality of female members and he also claims to have a fear of transvestites.

Sezer YURTSEVEN
Age: 26. From: London. Occupation: Stockbroker / Property Developer / Electronic Commodities Trainer.
Sezer is a Turkish Cypriot who went from being a tea boy in the City to owning a trading company at the age of 19. At 24, he decided to become a property developer and has been known to go out and spend £5,000 on alcohol in one single night. He believes women should stay in the kitchen and men should earn the money. When asked why he wanted to enter the Big Brother house he replied: “because my mum loves the show and I have the charisma that other contestants lack”. Sezer is also a boxing champion, having last won a British lightweight title in December 2005 and says if he was re-incarnated he’d want to be a pair of French knickers so he could “be on a woman all the time”.
