I saw this chimp playing with a plastic bottle in the Taiping Zoo, as it stretched it’s arms out to grab the bottle I was lucky enough to capture this expression of him, of that of a gangster reaching his hands out asking for protection money.

Serpent’s Crossing

I find this winding crossing to be one of the main attractions of Taiping Lake, it disappears when the tide is high and resurfaces when the waters recede, just like a serpent.

Bridge Over Troubled Water

Why did I call this one Bridge Over Troubled Water? It’s simply because the water is troubled with it’s murkiness, really hope better maintenance effort can be put into not just the lake but all the other tourist attractions across the country – the one thing Malaysia is not very good at.

Shannon @ Khoo Kongsi – The Wait

It was a cloudy Saturday morning, we arrived a little too early at Khoo Kongsi and had to wait a bit till opening time. Trying out a more contrasty style for this shot and personally I think it turned out well. I also gave the photo a yellowish tint to fit the heritage feel of the old clan house. International Lion Dance on Stilts Competition

I never really fancied lion dance when I was a kid, but find them quite entertaining recently, maybe it’s cause I’ve grown to appreciate their acrobatic skills. Penangites were lucky to bear witness to the International Lion Dance on Stilts Competition that was held two weeks ago at the Komtar Geodesic Dome. The best part? Free entry!

Here are some shots from the competition, unfortunately I did not stay for the whole two sessions and only managed to capture a few teams only.

Taiping Zoo 2009

This is probably the third time I’ve visited Taiping Zoo, yes I’m an animal lover. Every time I visit the zoo it’s like a different experience as the animals would be doing something different (or conversely not doing something). One thing that remained rather consistent were the porcupines, everytime I went, they were sleeping under the tree trunks, sigh…

Well here are some shots to share C&C welcomed:

I particularly liked this shot of the baby chimp playing with a aluminium can, his pose and expression just looks badass.

This one was particularly amusing as the orang utan was actually snacking on Rota! Shame on the visitors for feeding junk food to the animals, that Rota snack is probably going to mess up this poor chap’s diet.

The flamingos were nice, only if there were more of them just like in the Singapore Zoo.

Penang Floral Fest 2009

It’s been some time since my last update, and sure enough this post is duly overdue as well, for the Penang Floral Fest 2009 ended a few months back, but still I thought it would be a waste if I had just kept the photos I had taken at the festival to collect virtual dust on my hard disk.

Due to some unforseen circumstances last year (I think Penangites would know what was the actual cause), the floral fest last year was delayed several times before ultimately getting scrapped and swept under the carpet. I actually heard it was to be held on a certain date and went to the botanic gardens just to find that it was once again ‘postponed’, eventually it was I assume ‘postponed’ to May 2009, yes and happy to say, I have visited the fair and taken quite a number of shots, of which I will be uploading to my gallery at Aperture Gallery

Meanwhile, let us get to the floral fest shall we? The floral fest has a few sections, there’s a section for merchants to sell their goods, be it flowers, artificial flowers, fertilizer, gardening tools etc. which is located outside of the Botanic Gardens. Inside the Botanic Gardens itself is the floral fest itself, with a lot of pretty and varied flowers on display, and of course there’s the Competition section, where proud owners of rare breeds of orchids, bonzai, carnivorous plants such as the pitcher plant showcase their well cultivated plants with the hope to be crowned best plant of the show and other various titles.

There are also flower art on display in the nearby community building where our talented Penangites get creative with the use of fresh and artificial flowers, some of which are actually decorations that are used in events such as weddings etc.

If you missed out on this year’s festival, be sure to visit it next year, the vibrant colors and fresh smell of flowers will sure to brighten your day up.

WOU Tutorial Rooms

WOU tutorial rooms come in different sizes, but are fitted with roughly the same equipment such as tables, chairs, projector, PC, whiteboard, the air conditioning can get mighty cold as well.

WOU Homestead

Homestead houses the chancellery of WOU, it was once the home of tycoon Yeap Chor Ee and grand son Dato’ Stephen Yeap. The mansion was donated to WOU for the sake of education, it was later restored and renovated to become the headquarters of Wawasan Open University.

The decorations, tiles, and even the ceiling have a history to tell, with intricate patterns and design, it is really a heritage that would make Penangites proud.

Monkey Beach

At the end of the trail lies Monkey Beach, one of the cleanest beaches in Penang. For the adventurous they can continue up another trail to reach the light house at the top of the mountain.
