In fact, I provided the link in an earlier email. However, there’s no harm in honoring the request to send it again.

Don’t let people in other states or other countries speak on your behalf. Don’t let the animal extremist (HSUS, PETA, etc.) groups continue to damage our ecology with their agenda to grant equal rights to animals and to foist a vegetarian lifestyle on all of society.

Speak up for conservation. Remember, it’s conservation and not preservation (animal rights) that Mother Nature uses to manage her ecosystems.

Rocky Mountain Gun Owners

Colorado - -(AmmoLand.com)- Today, Rocky Mountain Gun Owners’ PAC (the only pro-gun PAC in the state of Colorado) endorsed Republican Carl Bruning for Sheriff of Larimer County.

“The Sheriff is a very important elected official, especially to gun owners, “ said Dudley Brown, Executive Director for RMGO, Colorado’s largest gun rights organization. “If you value your right to keep and bear arms, Carl Bruning is the only choice for Larimer County Sheriff.”

Bruning is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, and was a USAF pilot and commander in Operation Desert Shield. He was selected first in his unit to deploy to the Middle East, and led his aircrew on the first mission in theater. Following Desert Storm, Carl received his Masters of Business Administration degree. Bruning has served as a Vice President and senior executive, with proven leadership and management experience.

“Like 12 years ago, when Larimer County gun owners banded together to elect Jim Alderden as Sheriff, they’re banding together right now to elect Bruning,” Brown said. “Carl Bruning will be the kind of Sheriff Republicans can be proud of and will support for years to come.”

“Carl Bruning has not only answered our candidate survey 100% in favor of our Second Amendment rights, but has shown that he’s a Champion of the Second Amendment,” said Brown. “Given the threats to our gun rights, it’s vital we have leaders like Carl standing firm against gun control.”

Bruning faces a number of candidates in the August primary, as well as in the November elections.

About:
The new die sets are available as full length sizing , neck size and a three die deluxe set including both full length and neck sizing dies plus a seating die with crimp.

This wildcat cartridge has gained great favor as an alternative to standard handgun calibers under Indiana’s Regulation, allowing the use of cartridges with a bullet diameter of .357 or larger and a maximum case length of 1.625” to be used in rifles during their firearms deer season. It has the ability to be used in both bolt action and modern sporting rifle styles and produces sound terminal ballistics on whitetail deer.

Innovation on the part of the firearms owner has produced many great new cartridges which have over time become standards of our trade. Redding remains committed to supporting such innovation with a true “Custom” die operation, allowing individuals to work at improving their capabilities through wildcatting.

The Engineering Group at Redding requires only a chamber reamer drawing or 5 fired cases from the firearm in question to quote the production of dies for virtually any caliber and firearm which can be made with a 7/8 x 14 TPI die body. Prices are quoted on an individual basis depending upon the complexity of the chambering and any need for tooling.

Those seeking dies for a truly unique or obsolete cartridge should contact the Redding Custom Die Center in the company’s Engineering Department.

Redding offers numerous unique solutions to improve the accuracy, consistency and reliability of your handloaded ammunition. class="wp-caption-text">Rock Island Auction Company

Moline, IL --(AmmoLand.com)- This past weekend I watched John Wayne rule the Wild West with his trusty Winchester rifle. How I would have loved living out the adventures he played on screen! Of course, the old west has been highly romanticized. Still, I often imagine myself learning from the hardships and taking part in the triumphs those early settlers experienced.

Few things represent that golden era more than Winchester. Just mentioning the legendary name takes me to a time when America was charging ever forward, expanding westward; becoming a global player. The Winchester brand was a manufacturing behemoth, a model of American industry. It’s important we remember how intertwined the history of the United States and Winchester firearms truly were. For over a hundred years, classic Winchester rifles were carried by American settlers across the vast frontier and by soldiers on battlefronts too numerous to mention.

It has been nearly fifty years since Winchester’s heyday. It’s sad to see an American legend as large as Winchester fall so fast and so completely. While we drool over the pre-’64 Winchesters and wonder why “they don’t build them like they used to,” there’s something we forget.

Golden Era of Winchester

Winchester was long ago forced to halt production because people were buying newer, “more cost-effective” guns. In an ironic twist, this has left the higher-quality, older guns, like Winchester, collecting dust on the shelves. Of course, other legends of American industry have suffered as well. GM is no longer the king of the auto industry, our politicians have allowed us to become dependant on foreign money and, in general, we have become a shadow of the powerhouse we once were.

The glory days of Winchester was a boon time for this country. Self-reliance was our trademark and classic Winchester rifles were, and are, a shining symbol of our pioneer spirit.

Through grit, determination and sheer force of will, we forged the greatest empire ever known to man. What would America be without those hardened settlers trudging across the great expanse with Winchester in hand and Colt on hip?

Today we find our past slipping away.

Wild West Cowboys With Trusty Winchester Rifles

This alone makes the revered, American made Winchesters such a precious commodity. They’re a direct tie to our historic past. Each firearm contains a portion of this country’s soul.

The sad fact that we now purchase the Winchester brand from foreign markets is an unbelievable disgrace.

Most of us would rather have seen the name die completely than for such a thing to happen. But happen it did. And in a world where our fathers blood, sweat and tears are being sold to the highest bidder – what more could we expect?

We owe it to the few remaining classic Winchesters that they be preserved forever. So much of the detail and workmanship that made these weapons so special have been tossed aside.

That’s why collectors of antique firearms are so very important.

They preserve the history of this country. A history that men like Teddy Roosevelt and Buffalo Bill Cody helped shape. They knew the value of these legendary rifles. Today it is up to us to keep their legacy alive in the hope that we can recapture the magic and the boldness these great guns represent.

About:
FirearmsCoalition.org

Manassas, VA - -(AmmoLand.com)- Dr. Ignatius Piazza, founder of Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, is fond of talking about “the comfort of skill at arms.”

It’s not only a part of his sales pitch it’s also an integral part of the overall philosophy taught at the school. It is an important concept because having full confidence in your own ability to handle almost any serious encounter that might arise is a very comfortable feeling. Of course that comfort must never be allowed to slip into complacency or cockiness and that too is emphasized in Front Sight training. The comfort of skill at arms removes anxiety and makes the world a much more inviting, less threatening place.

There is a downside to the comfort of skill at arms though and that is the intensified discomfort of being disarmed.

I have carried a gun on an irregular basis over the past 25 years, I think I was like most concealed carry permit holders in that I didn’t carry all of the time, just those times when I was stretching my comfort zone a little: Road trips, visits to unfamiliar areas, walks in the wilderness or the wilds of an urban setting… It wasn’t so much that I was carrying only when I expected I might need it, but more that I didn’t carry in situations where I was comfortably confident that I would not need it.

It has only been in the past few years that I began carrying virtually all of the time. Again, this was not due to a fear that something might happen, but rather as a way to increase my comfort and familiarity with the gun on my hip. I realized that if I was carrying only when I was “uncomfortable” that meant that in that uncomfortable situation I had the added discomfort of a gun behind my belt that was not as comfortable as it should be.

Widely accepted training doctrine holds that in a serious, life-threatening encounter you can expect to function at about 50% of the skill level you demonstrated in your most recent practice session (assuming frequent practice sessions.) Think about how that 50% skill degradation is impacted by different clothing, different physical positions, and not having the luxury of adjusting your holster position right before the draw. You need to know exactly where your gun is riding so you can get a good grip leading into a smooth draw from any position. The gun on your belt should be as normal to you as the billfold or keys in your pocket and the only way to achieve that level of comfort is to make carry your regular routine – a habit.

Once I began carrying all of the time, I discovered a number of things I had not realized before. I became much more familiar with ways that my gun tends to shift and ride differently with different belts and different pants. I developed subtle ways of checking and adjusting the position of the gun with my elbow and realized that I needed more practice with a wider variety of concealment garments. I also became much more aware of the many roadblocks thrown up by hoplophobic politicians to discourage citizen carry.

I found that, even in gun-friendly Virginia, it is impossible to obey the law all of the time and still retain a reasonable level of basic safety, not to mention security.

It’s outrageous that politicians who have never handled guns dictate where I may and where I must not carry a gun and that they do so with no consideration of what happens to the gun while I am not carrying it, much less the inherent dangers of handling a loaded gun in public and in some cases having to unload it in order to remain in compliance with their ignorant rules.

After all of the work and concentration developing the comfort of skill at arms, it is decidedly uncomfortable to be disarmed.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m looking for trouble. Because I carry a gun I keep a more wary eye out for trouble so I can better avoid it.

I don’t carry a gun because I am fearful. What do I have to be afraid of, I’ve got a gun.

I don’t carry a gun as my first response to trouble. I carry it as a last resort.

The real discomfort is knowing that in a worst-case situation when lives are in danger, if I have been disarmed, it is more likely that whatever remains as my last resort might not be good enough to effectively protect my family. That is a very discomforting feeling.

To receive The Firearms Coalition’s bi-monthly newsletter, The Knox Hard Corps Report, write to PO Box 3313, Manassas, VA 20108.

Copyright © 2010 Neal Knox Associates – The most trusted name in the rights movement.

About:
ArmaLite Inc

Geneseo, IL - (AmmoLand.com)- On Wednesday, Mark Westrom came into the office and said we’re having a truckload sale. He said if you buy a truckload of ArmaLite, you get to keep the truck.

The trucks… and we have a parking lot full of them here in Geneseo… are military M35A2’s, commonly known as a “deuce and a half.”

Since then, we spent some time figuring out exactly how many guns do fit in a deuce. We measured the cargo area of the trucks and the dimensions of a standard AR10’s shipping box. Then we set our crack engineering staff on the math problem of how many boxes would fit in the cargo area.

We got the answer, but we’re not going to share it with you. Instead, we’re running a contest. Guess how many guns fit in a deuce and a half. The prize is one of our new SPR Mod 1 complete uppers.

ArmaLite Special Purpose (SPR) MOD 1 Rifle with the Continuous Optics Platform Installed

Here’s a description of the Mod 1:

ArmaLite is known for its history of innovation. Its Special Purpose Rifle (SPR®) has proved it for years. Now, the introduction of the ArmaLite SPR Mod 1™ proves it once more, in spectacular fashion. The SPR Mod 1 is a forged, one-piece upper receiver/rail system with exclusive detachable side and bottom rails. That’s right, you can change your 1913 rails to fit your changing needs for sights… lights… lasers… grips… or swivels. The SPR Mod 1’s one-piece construction offers you a continuous optics platform (COP). There’s no gap to bridge between receiver and upper rail when installing your scope or sights. This one-piece construction’s strength and rigidity will also keep your sights zeroed in the most trying conditions.

To enter the contest, e-mail your guess to steadmana@armalite.com. Make sure that in the topic box its says exactly, “TRUCKLOAD CONTEST.” Your entry must be e-mailed to us by March 31, 2010. Please, only one entry per e-mail address. The name of everyone with the correct answer will be put in a hat, and one winner will be pulled at random. Please don’t call or e-mail the factory with questions. The truck model is M35A2. The year doesn’t matter because the cargo area is the same size in all the trucks.

<embed

Apparently NJ bears are different and this time-tested technique will not work in New Jersey.

They also believe that the bear problem can be solved through the exclusive use of bear resistant garbage cans. This is not just funny but insulting. Anyone who lives in bear country knows that bears can tear open cars and buildings if they want what is inside.

They also are demanding that enforcement of NJ trash laws be handled by NJ Fish and Game officers. Isn’t enforcement of trash laws the responsibilities of local police and municipalities?
<div

When answering the question: Do black bears pose any danger to me or my children? they say “that black bears are not aggressive”. That is just wrong and BEAR clearly has no regard for the well being of our children or humans in general and are willing to put people at risk to promote their twisted agenda.

Among their other deceitful tricks is they have been asking all their supporters to vote in a poll on NJ bears to load the vote in their favor.

Fortunately they have no problem exposing their real agenda which is “promote tolerance of our bear neighbors, and foster peaceful coexistence between bears and people”

This is he same logic that they are now using to justify suing the NJDEP for voting to manage bears correctly through sound wildlife mangement techniques.

But New Jersey residents are much smarter and have more common sense than the Bear Education and Resource Group gives you credit for. Read their info for fun but do not be foolish enough to follow it or risk your life and those of your children.

Be safe and support science based management of all wildlife and the environment. Do not be swayed by the pictures of cuddly bears or the wish full thinking of feel good wildlife management.

Brought to you by - AMMO LAND.COM - Firearms & Shooting Sports News U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Washington, DC --(AmmoLand.com)- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has published a proposed rule in the Federal Register to designate the Burmese python and eight other large constrictor snakes as “injurious wildlife” under the Lacey Act. If finalized, the designation will prohibit the importation and interstate transportation of these species.

In addition to the proposed rule, a draft economic analysis and environmental assessment are available for public review and comment for 60 days. These documents are available at: http://www.regulations.gov under Docket No. FWS-R9-FHC-2008-0015.

“We greatly value the public’s input and encourage engagement into this rulemaking process. The control of invasive species, including pythons and other large constrictor snakes, is a key step in our larger effort to restore the Everglades and protect other vulnerable areas of the country,” said Acting Service Director Rowan Gould.

On January 20, 2010, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced the Service would propose to designate these large constrictor snakes as injurious species. Salazar made the announcement at the Port of New York, which serves as the largest point of entry in the nation for imports of wildlife and wildlife products.

Under the Lacey Act, the Department of the Interior is authorized to regulate the importation and interstate transport of wildlife species determined to be injurious to humans, the interests of agriculture, horticulture or forestry, and the welfare and survival of wildlife resources of the United States.

The Burmese python (Indian python) is currently established across thousands of square miles in south Florida, and a population of boa constrictors is established south of Miami. In addition, evidence strongly suggests that a population of northern African pythons is reproducing on the western edges of Miami. The other species being considered in the proposed rule are the reticulated python, southern African python, yellow anaconda, DeSchauensee’s anaconda, green anaconda, and Beni anaconda. None of the nine species of snakes is native to the United States.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Service jointly funded a U.S. Geological Survey assessment, which highlighted the ecological risks associated with the establishment of the nine large constrictor species. All were shown to pose a high or medium risk to the health of ecosystems in the United States.

Burmese pythons and other large constrictor snakes are highly adaptable to new environments and prey on a wide variety and size of animals. Burmese pythons threaten many imperiled species and other wildlife. Two Burmese pythons were found near Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge with the remains of three endangered Key Largo woodrats in their stomachs. As a result of these threats, more than 1,300 Burmese pythons have been removed from Everglades National Park and vicinity since 2000. Others have been removed from the Florida Keys, along Florida’s west coast and farther north along the Florida peninsula.

For Service information on injurious wildlife and how to send a comment, as well as links to partner agencies, visit: U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance

Trenton, NJ --(AmmoLand.com)- On March 9, the FGC approved a management plan for the state’s black bear population that recommends a six-day hunt in December.

The plan now moves to the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for a public comment period prior to a final decision being made by acting DEP Commissioner, Bob Martin.

“We are pleased the FGC voted to recommend a hunting season as part of the management plan,” said Rob Sexton, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation (USSAF) vice president for government affairs. “We will continue working with state officials to keep moving this badly needed plan forward.”

The FGC proposal is the latest step in a multi-year effort to address growing concerns in New Jersey about increasing bear-human interactions since the hunt was arbitrarily ended in 2006 by then DEP Commissioner Lisa Jackson.

In response, the USSAF, along with Safari Club International and the New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, filed a lawsuit against the state to challenge the former Commissioner’s decision to stop the bear hunt.

The state Supreme Court refused to consider an emergency injunction that would have compelled the Commissioner to proceed with the 2006 hunt.

Since then, Assembly Members Gary Chiusano (R- Frankford Township) and Alison Littell McHose (R- Franklin) have repeatedly called for the Administration to reevaluate its bear hunting ban as the number of incidents between humans and bears continued to increase. Those same legislators also introduced Assembly Bill 181 clarifying that the FGC has sole authority to implement and regulate black bear hunting in New Jersey while prohibiting the DEP Commissioner from blocking those approved by Council.

Brought to you by - AMMO LAND.COM - Firearms & Shooting Sports News <a

Max Bacus and Jon Tester introduced The North Fork Watershed Protection Act that protects the North Fork of the Flathead Drainage.

The legislation is in conjunction with a similar measure in British Columbia.

“The legislation will protect the water quality of downstream flows to key wetlands in this drainage area. This is a critical staging area for migrating waterfowl and supports more than 50,000 waterfowl each year,” said Robert Sanders, DU manager of conservation programs for Montana. “For example, the region’s large number of small wetlands has been known to support one of the highest densities of nesting redheads in the U.S.”

Most of the land in the Flathead Valley is federally owned, with miles of grassland dotted with hundreds of small wetlands. The Intermountain West Joint Venture Coordinated Bird Conservation Plan and numerous federal and state level bird conservation plans list this valley as a priority landscape for waterfowl and other birds.

“It’s imperative water quality in this key area be maintained,” Sanders said, “and DU supports the North Fork legislation as a way to ensure water quality is maintained for these important habitats.”

Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to conserving North America’s continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 12 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. /> NASP is an in-school archery curriculum that meets all education department standards. Only schools that are certified in NASP through the Georgia Department of Natural Resources are qualified to compete in the State Tournament. Schools in nearly 70 counties in Georgia are NASP certified.

The program promotes instruction in international-style target archery to improve educational performance and participation in shooting sports. Research has shown that the program, administered through a minimum two-week course during the school year, improves class attendance and behavior. NASP universal fit bows make it possible for students of all sizes and genders to succeed in archery while raising self-esteem levels and improving hand-eye coordination during physical activity.

NASP is taught in 46 states as well as Australia, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand. To date, more than five million students have participated in the program.

For more information on assisting schools bound for the NASP National Tournament with funding or NASP in Georgia, call Jennifer Pittman at (770) 918-6416 or e-mail jennifer.pittman@gadnr.org.

Brought to you by - AMMO LAND.COM - Firearms & Shooting Sports News GoHuntGeorgia.com

SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga --(AmmoLand.com)- The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division recently selected George “Rip” Masters as the 2009 Volunteer Hunter Education Instructor of the Year.

This award is presented annually in recognition of an instructor who displays outstanding volunteer efforts in educating sportsmen and women on wildlife conservation and the importance of safety while hunting.

“Rip Masters is always ready to help spread the word about hunter education,” says Col. Homer Bryson, Chief of Law Enforcement. “He is involved with every aspect of the planning process for classes and goes out of his way to give his attendees a personal experience.”

Georgia “Rip” Masters has been a volunteer hunter education instructor since 1986, and has twice previously been nominated for this same honor. He is keenly active on holding the interest level of his students – taking it so far to build, at his own expense, various bullet and shotshell displays to help illustrate topics.

He personally reviews the test with any student that may not have passed in order to ensure that the student leaves feeling more confident to come back and take the test again. He also likes to provide new hunters with maps of local places to hunt. Masters wants students to have an enjoyable experience, not that the course and the test is just a requirement.

The selection of the Hunter Education Instructor of the Year begins at the region level. Each of the seven WRD Law Enforcement Regions picks the outstanding instructor in their area and sends them to the DNR Law Enforcement/Hunter Education office. The applications are then submitted to the Hunter Safety Committee. This committee is made up of WRD personnel from Game Management, Fisheries Management and Law Enforcement who are knowledgeable in working with volunteers and about hunter safety education. The committee then makes the final selection.

For more information on the Volunteer Hunter Education Instructor of the Year or hunter education classes, call the WRD Conservation Education Office at (770) 918-6414. class="wp-caption-text">GoHuntGeorgia.com

SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga --(AmmoLand.com)- Successful hunting trips require a combination of skill, patience and most importantly, preparation. As turkey season rapidly approaches, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division encourages preparation first, hoping that hunters will brush up on important turkey hunting safety tips before hitting the woods.

“Hunters should always be sure to identify their target before pulling the trigger and should never shoot at sound or movement,” advises Lt. Judd Smith. “Turkey hunters have to utilize their firearms safety knowledge and remember ways to keep themselves and others safe while in the woods.”

Hunters are encouraged to review the following turkey hunting season safety precautions.

Season opens on Sat., March 20:

Never wear red, white, blue or black clothing while turkey hunting. Red is the color most hunters look for when distinguishing a gobbler’s head from a hen’s blue-colored head, but at times it may appear white or blue. Male turkey feathers covering most of the body are black in appearance. Camouflage should be used to cover everything, including the hunter’s face, hands and firearm.

Select a calling position that provides at least a shoulder-width background, such as the base of a tree. Be sure that at least a 180-degree range is visible.

Do not stalk a gobbling turkey. Due to their keen eyesight and hearing, the chances of getting close are slim to none, but a hunter in motion greatly increases his/her chances of being mistaken for game.

Be careful using a turkey call. The sound and motion may attract other hunters. Do not move, wave or make turkey-like sounds to alert another hunter to your presence. Instead, yell in a loud voice so other hunters know you are in the area.

Be careful when carrying a harvested turkey from the woods. Do not allow the wings to hang loosely or the head to be displayed in such a way that another hunter may think it is a live bird. If possible, conceal the turkey in a blaze orange garment or other material.

Although it’s not required, it is suggested that hunters wear blaze orange when moving to and from a vehicle and hunting site. When moving between hunting sites, hunters should wear blaze orange on their upper bodies to lessen chances of being mistaken for game.

Additional Safety Tips

Turkey hunters must possess a valid hunting license and a big game license to legally hunt turkeys in Georgia. If hunting on a Wildlife Management Area, hunters must also possess a WMA license. Sportsmen and women must always obtain permission from the landowner before hunting on private land. Only male turkeys may be harvested, and the season bag limit is three gobblers per hunter.

For additional turkey hunting information or turkey hunting safety tips, visit www.gohuntgeorgia.com , contact the nearest Wildlife Resources Division Law Enforcement office or call (770) 918-6414.

Brought to you by - AMMO LAND.COM - Firearms & Shooting Sports News GoHuntGeorgia.com

SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga --(AmmoLand.com)- Turkey hunters across the state are practicing their yelps and clucks in preparation for the upcoming turkey season. Opening day is Sat., Mar. 20 and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division anticipates that the 2010 season should be good, and harvest levels should be similar in comparison to the past several years.

“There should be many vocal 2-year old gobblers available for harvest this year thanks to the high reproduction rate in the summer of 2008,” says Kevin Lowrey, Wildlife Resources Division wild turkey project coordinator.

Statistics from the 2009 season harvest summary indicate that an estimated 56,113 resident Georgia hunters bagged 27,323 turkeys last year. The bird to hunter ratio (harvest rate) for 2009 was .49 birds per hunter – the same as in 2007 and 2008. According to Lowrey, Georgia’s current turkey population is estimated at 300,000 birds. Georgia turkey hunters are privileged with one of the longest turkey seasons nationwide. With a bag limit of three gobblers per season, hunters have from Mar. 20 through May 15 to harvest their bird(s). Because most hunters pursue wild turkeys on private lands, the Wildlife Resources Division reminds hunters to always obtain landowner permission before hunting.

WMA Hunting Opportunities Georgia’s Wildlife Management Areas offer excellent turkey hunting opportunities. Through the WMA system, resident hunters have access to nearly one million acres of prime hunting land for just $19 a year. Success rates and total harvest numbers from 2009 may help indicate which WMAs hunters should target this year. In the northwest, Crockford-Pigeon Mountain and Berry College WMA reported the highest harvest rates. In the northeast, Dukes Creek WMA and Wilson Shoals WMA had the highest harvest rates. In west central Georgia, hunters should try Joe Kurz WMA and Rum Creek WMA. In east central Georgia, Di-Lane Plantation WMA and Tuckahoe WMA reported high harvest rates. In the southeast, hunters should visit Dixon Memorial WMA and Sansavilla WMA. Middle Georgia hunter should try River Bend WMA Finally, in southwest Georgia, River Creek WMA and Chickasawhatchee WMA had the highest harvest rates. A special WMA license is required for any person 16 years or older who does not possess a valid honorary, sportsman or lifetime license when hunting wild turkey on a WMA, Public Fishing Area or State Park. In addition, both a valid hunting license and a big game license are required to legally hunt wild turkey. Wild turkey legally can be hunted with shotguns, loaded with No. 2 or smaller shot, any muzzleloading firearm, longbow, crossbow or compound bow.

Conservation of the Wild Turkey in Georgia
The comeback of the wild turkey is one of Georgia’s great conservation success stories. Although the bird population currently hovers around 300,000 statewide, as recently as 1973, the wild turkey population was as low as 17,000. Intensive restoration efforts, such as the restocking of wild birds and increased emphasis on biologically sound hunting seasons, have helped re-establish turkeys in suitable habitat in every county. This resurgence is due to the efforts of private landowners, hunters and conservation organizations like the National Wild Turkey Federation.

The Georgia Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation has donated more than $3,220,977 since 1985 on projects that benefit wild turkey and other wildlife. The NWTF works cooperatively in partnership with the Wildlife Resources Division and other land management agencies with the focus on habitat enhancement, hunter access, wild turkey research and education. There currently are 96 state chapters of the NWTF with membership totals of more than 16,000.

For more information regarding wild turkey hunting opportunities, WMA hunting opportunities, 2010 wild turkey hunting seasons, regulations or license requirements in Georgia, visit www.gohuntgeorgia.com .

Brought to you by - AMMO LAND.COM - Firearms & Shooting Sports News <a

When union members join the USA, they also become TRCP partners and help safeguard American sporting traditions and advance the TRCP mission, activities that have contributed to the TRCP’s increasing effectiveness in furthering conservation objectives in the interest of the hunting and angling community.

“The TRCP created the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance to promote the TRCP’s conservation mission and strengthen the impact of American workers in determining responsible management and use of our natural resources,” said USA Executive Director Fred Myers. “This vision – and the role of union members in conservation policymaking – will be perpetuated under the USA’s new identity and reinforced by the strong leadership of the TRCP and its union partners.”

The USA will remain based in Nashville, Tenn., and continue interactions and joint undertakings with the TRCP’s Washington, D.C., headquarters and Western staff. While maintaining its conservation approach, formed in consultation with TRCP leadership and staff, the USA will continue its policy of non-partisanship by not taking positions on political agendas, parties or candidates.

“The TRCP remains committed to the success of the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance and to nurturing its increasing influence in the U.S. conservation arena,” said Diane Craney, interim president and CEO of the TRCP. “By facilitating the USA’s re-creation as a separate, stand-alone entity, we can refine and sharpen the conservation focus, both with union members and the sportsmen’s community as a whole, that has become a hallmark of the TRCP.”

“The USA offers our nation’s union members the chance to organize, sustain and defend a uniquely American way of life – an outdoor heritage both for themselves and for their children and grandchildren to enjoy,” said AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka. “The AFL-CIO is honored to have played a founding role in establishing the USA, and we welcome the opportunity to foster our partnership with the TRCP by continuing to promote a conservation message that resonates with union workers everywhere.”

Learn more about the <a

International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts
LOS OSOS, Calif. --(AmmoLand.com)- Going into its 19th season of revolver competition, the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE) announced that the legendary 158-year old firearms maker Smith & Wesson will not only sponsor the organization’s annual International Revolver Championships but also six regional competitions across America.
“No other company has demonstrated the kind of commitment to the handgun shooting sports as Smith & Wesson has, and we are extremely proud to once again partner with this American icon to bring the exciting world of revolver shooting to firearms ranges around the United States,” said Art Leach of ICORE.
The 19th Annual Smith & Wesson International Revolver Championships will take place June 4-6 at the Hogue Action Pistol Range in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The match is the highlight of the revolver shooting season and more than 250 of the nation’s top revolver shooters, as well as several from outside the United States, are expected to compete.
Smith & Wesson
“Smith & Wesson is very proud to continue our support of the International Revolver Championships and the ICORE Regional Series. These competitions bring together the most talented revolver shooters in the world while still maintaining an atmosphere of family, fun and sportsmanship. We wish all the competitors at these events a safe and enjoyable match season,” said Paul Pluff, director of marketing services for Smith & Wesson.
The revolver competition season will begin March 20 and 21 when the Southern Shooting Center in Thibodaux, La. hosts the Southern Regional Revolver Championship. Up to 50 of the area’s top wheelgunners are expected to compete including members of Team Smith & Wesson.
The remaining regional matches are scheduled for April 10 when the 13th Annual Southwest Regional will be held in San Luis Obispo, May 1 and 2 when the Rocky Mountain Regional will take place at the WCFW High Plains Shooting Range in Galeton, Colo., May 2 when the Hartford Gun Club in East Granby, Conn. will host the New England Regional, July 18 when the Central States Regional gets underway in Buchanan, Mich. at the Bend of the River Conservation Club and September 26 when the Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club in New Tripoli, Pa. plays host to the East Coast Regional.

About ICORE:
The International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE) was founded in 1991 by Mike and Sharon Higashi, long time active shooters in all the handgun sports. Envisioned as an alternative to the “arms race” that was occurring in the other action shooting sports at that time, a revolver-only competition would allow even the most basic equipment to be used and still provide enjoyment and satisfaction.

class="wp-caption-text">Rocky Mountain Gun Owners

Colorado - -(AmmoLand.com)- At a campaign rally on a cold winter evening, thousands of individuals crowd around a stage to hear a Presidential candidate speak on life, liberty, and the Constitution. Homemade signs litter the crowd as the fiery congressman from Texas speaks to a sea of activists, many whom had never before taken an interest in politics. As he concludes, cheers erupt from the mass of people as they celebrate the one man speaking what no other candidate dares to say. Ron Paul has ignited a crowd desperate for a leader and in doing so has energized the thousands in attendance, as he asks for their support in the upcoming Presidential primary.

The next day, about 75 percent of them do not show up to vote.

The above illustrates the difficulty facing the liberty movement today—the willingness of its participants to engage in philosophical discussion, policy talk, or social activism, but their reluctance to engage in political action, the only thing that counts on Election Day.

Unfortunately this has even bled into the issue of gun rights, self-defense, and second amendment advocacy. Individuals who claim to support the rights of gun owners are too often preoccupied with personal recognition or high ideals, instead of focusing on eliminating bad policies and enacting good ones.

Even nationally recognized organizations that pledge to defend the rights of gun owners often find themselves caught up in the pomp and circumstance of putting on a show for the cameras instead of focusing on tangible results.

With the shock of last year’s election fading and 2010’s mid-term elections rapidly approaching, we see many in the gun rights movement cling to the same techniques that have proven unsuccessful in political campaigns.

I count myself tremendously blessed to have experienced a number of facets of the liberty movement. I have been able to volunteer for Ron Paul in his candidacy for President as well as separately learn from many in the gun rights movement who have spent decades defending the Constitutional amendment that protects all others.

Later…
When I served as campaign manager for a Ron Paul-endorsed candidate for Congress, I was able to put those skills into practice. This essay relates what I have learned.

Liberty candidates and their supporters all too often believe a fancy website with an automated real-time ticker will revolutionize the campaign and bring immediate media attention to their cause. They believe simply announcing a “money bomb” will be all that is needed to reform the system and transform their candidacy from an upstart radar blip to a powerhouse ready to take on the political world. But, as wonderful as money bombs and interactive website assuredly are, there is more to real politics.

Despite the signs, the blimps, and the unmatched enthusiasm of Ron Paul’s supporters, on election night when the returns came back the votes were not there. Not in Iowa, or New Hampshire, or Wyoming, or Michigan. Paul’s supporters were often quick to react to the tactics of the political establishment and media, tactics we believed to be underhanded (and which oftentimes were). But the liberty movement limited its effectiveness when it only played defense. Ron Paul’s supporters watched political talking heads dismiss him as a fringe candidate, who purportedly had a handful of supporters spamming polls with text-message votes, and their only response was to complain about the bias they were up against. Just as gun rights advocates should not expect favorable editorials from the New York Times or the Huffington Post, we should never be content to sit and complain. We can whine about how unfair the media is and how we will never be given a fair shake, or we can do something about it. We can hit the establishment where it really hurts, not in the online polls, but where the political class is most vulnerable—in local elections and the grassroots organizations that are the base of the political pyramid.

Dedicated To Destroying Principles
One look to our town councils, state houses, or local political parties will show us the people we are up against. Many of these folks have dedicated their lives to destroying the principles we believe in.

They care nothing about the right to self-defense or those they hurt by refusing to allow honest Americans to carry firearms.

They have sold gun owners down the river for only a paycheck, their proverbial 30 pieces of silver, and sometimes only out of a desire to have a title or control an office. In response we have committed ourselves not to taking their titles and offices away from them but instead to complaining about the system and offering symbolic actions. If elections were won by rifle shoots, turnouts at gun shows, or empty holster protests, our movement would have achieved victory 20 times over. Instead we will continue to lose, and lose badly, until we realize it is up to us, as the next generation of freedom advocates, to learn how to win.

The starry-eyed second amendment activist believe a sound philosophy is what should take precedence above everything else in political life. He believes an un-comprising adherence to principle should trump hard-won victories, party politics, and a desire for power, fame, and fortune. The starry-eyed activist is 100 percent correct. It is in this that the true believer in the second amendment has the advantage.

When working for a political nonprofit that would by all definitions be described as one run by “Establishment Republicans,” I was often railed and berated for my defense of the Constitution, and the second amendment. As a gun owner living in the state of Virginia I am permitted to open carry by law. I exercised this right and carried a properly holstered pistol to the office each and every morning.

Though the office was filled top to bottom with self-described “conservatives,” day after day I was railed and berated for promoting my Constitutional right to carry a firearm. I was informed that cowboys weren’t allowed in the building, told I “wasn’t being responsible,” was called named on the email list-serve, and at times had to sit and patiently wait as co-workers brought Nerf guns down from other floors to engage in a “shootout” outside my office.

After one such defense of the ideals of our founding fathers I was called “young,” “naive,” and with a sigh and a chuckle was lectured by colleagues about how they, “Remembered when they were that immature and idealistic.” My response was simple: “good.” While I will not always be young, I hoped I would always be idealistic—always willing to put principle ahead of politics, even if that meant costing myself an election, being called names, or remaining unpopular with those in power.

The advocates of gun rights have a tremendous advantage over their entrenched political counterparts. While we face a foe that has the techniques and technical knowledge to win elections, we take solace in the fact that our foe is morally empty. Training oneself how to write a direct-mail letter, assemble a press release, or become a better public speaker is merely a skill that can be learned and refined. But having that skill and choosing to throw away political prestige in order adhere to a sound Constitutional philosophy is a road few people are willing to take. However, this does not mean we who support gun rights should fail to cultivate the technical skills our opponents’ possess. Our side must learn how to succeed not just on the Internet or in the journals of intellectual thought, but in the political races and campaigns that shape our government. Gun owners are among the most dedicated individuals one will find in any cause, political or non. Very few are willing to budge on any aspect of the second amendment no matter how small.

Yet this philosophical correctness is not enough to initiate the transformation that is needed in government. Believing you are correct is not enough. Even actually being correct is not enough.

Politics is not an art, expressive and creative, no matter how much so many of us want it to be. Campaigns and elections are very much a science, with tried and true methods that move votes from the living-room couch to the election booth. The science of elections is based on numbers, statistics, and techniques that have concrete goals.

Yard Signs vs Robo-Calls
Yard signs are popular campaign memorabilia—but yard signs do not vote. Volunteer for any candidate in virtually any race, and you will be hounded about yard signs. The candidate always wants to know what color they will be, where they will go, and how many can be placed along the highway. Yet yard signs are something that campaigns seem to do just for the sake of doing them; statistically they have an extremely low impact on changing minds, switching votes, or mobilizing the base.

By contrast, as much as many of us complain about automated pre-recorded messages from candidates—robo-calls—there is a reason campaigns, even in the age of advanced social networking, continue to do them: they work. Despite the anecdotal stories you hear about someone becoming angry at the flood of automated calls he has been receiving and pledging not to vote for that candidate out of spite … it does not happen. Ask yourself, if you truly believed in the message a pro-gun candidate was proclaiming and thought he was the only candidate in that race would defend your right to own a firearm, would you really refuse to vote for him simply because of a few automated telephone calls? If so, then statistically you weren’t going to vote for him anyway. Such voters are negligible.

Some dismiss old-fashioned direct-mail letters that include surveys and requests for contributions as either out of touch with the new way of doing things or simply as junk mail from groups that are out to make a quick buck. In reality, direct mail serves as a proven method to gauge what issues are important to an organization’s membership base. An organization which takes the time to find our which specific second amendment issue is most important to you, is an organization setting itself up to best serve you and its members.

From a fundraising angle, there is a reason groups send out physical mail asking for help to fund project proposals: it works. Every part of a direct mail letter is a scientific instrument used to provide the best product and service to the member of that organization. Direct mail should not turn off gun owners but instead bring them into a world where they too can learn what works and what doesn’t when it comes to recruiting for a cause or spreading a message. There is a reason most direct-mail letters are printed in courier font. It is because most donors to political organizations are over 70 years old, and the font reminds many of them of a typewriter. It gives them a tactile connection to an organization with which they feel philosophical sympathy.

What is effective and what is easy are often two completely different things.

The most effective way of changing minds and recruiting new voters or members is the tactic so many of us shy away from—door-to-door recruitment. Political operatives, campaign workers, and volunteers all agree when asked what the best technique is to influence voters: knocking on their door, handing them a piece of literature, and talking with them. Despite right-wing jeers about Barack Obama’s label as a “community organizer, the ability to sort and mobilize a community is the most basic and most effective way to win in politics.

A successful movement breaks down its locality as specifically as possible in order to appoint outgoing organizers who are a good match for their areas. In the realm of political campaigns, the selection of “precinct captains” is made to ensure that those in charge have a friendly face and a strong tie to the community. In today’s world, we could live almost our entire lives without ever leaving our house. Delivery services, tele-commuting, and Netflix have made it theoretically possible never to need to engage another person in meaningful conversation. Yet despite all of our modern conveniences, deep down people long for individual connections.

Talking With A Complete Stranger
Going out of your way and initiating conversation with a complete stranger can be nerve-racking. You will undoubtedly run into individuals who make it quite clear that you are not allowed on their property again, especially when you mention how much you love guns. But the most important question to ask of yourself about that is, “So what?” We pay respect to a congressman from Texas who at age 72 sought the nomination for president despite being harassed, bullied, and excluded from debates by members of his own political party, and yet we are unwilling to endure the discomfort that might occur from an interaction on a neighbor’s porch?

A little awkward conversation is a small price to pay in the fight for liberty.

You don’t have to wait for the next campaign season to become active—organizing can, and should, be done everywhere and all the time. Instead of talking about the poor leadership that exists within your local political party, force a change. Find out the date of the next election for party chairman and spend the next several months recruiting gun friendly individuals who live in your county. Use established political techniques to build a network of activists and then file the paperwork to become a candidate. Make it clear that under your leadership the party will take a solid stand on the second amendment and will never leave a fellow gun owner out in the cold. Instead of talking about philosophy and the need to bring in new leadership to the county party, become the vehicle that accomplishes it.

Familiarize yourself with the Campaign for Liberty and make it a point to visit their web site each day. The organization formed by Ron Paul has established a national local coordinator program, offers new featured articles every morning, and hosts both statewide and regional conferences containing some of the best political training you will ever receive. Those who adhere to the ideals of freedom no longer have any excuse for not getting deeply involved. Through groups like the Campaign for Liberty, you can learn the political techniques you need to wrest control of government from those who have contributed to its overgrowth.

Your fellow gun owners do not need your homemade signs or your blog posts. They need votes to win their elections and restore strict constitutional government. There must come a time when each defender of liberty says “enough” and commits himself to a struggle that enacts change rather than merely discussing it. That time is now. This is your country, and it’s being taken from you one election at a time. Take it back.

About:
Texas Deer Association

SAN ANTONIO, Texas –-(AmmoLand.com)- The Texas Deer Association’s (TDA) latest event raised the bar not only for the quality of Texas’ whitetail deer herd but also for the knowledge of wildlife enthusiasts and the future of students in agricultural pursuits.

With the TDA’s Superior Genetics Whitetail Deer Auction grossing $888,000 at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, approximately $8,000 will go to the scholarship fund of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition.

The TDA has donated nearly $60,000, including $15,000 from the San Antonio chapter’s banquet last year, to the rodeo’s scholarship fund since the deer auction became the first in the nation to be conducted at a stock show in 2005.

The seminars, co-sponsored by Purina Mills, were another highlight as more than 500 people packed the Auction Barn on the rodeo grounds on Feb. 12.

Pen to Pasture Deer Release, covering how to adapt genetically superior deer to a free-range life, drew a lot of audience participation with seminar leaders Charles DeYoung, Ph.D., research scientist and professor emeritus at the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, and wildlife consultant and biologist Warren Bluntzer.

“It showed the interest and the care people have for the white-tailed deer of Texas and how far education has taken wildlife management today,” Bluntzer said.

Farmers and ranchers walked away with a better understanding of how to take care of their resources and the land to produce agricultural products and a healthy wildlife population that can add to the diversification of their income, he said.

“All of the Texas wildlife species benefit from these practices. It’s a win-win situation for Texans who own land, sportsmen and the wildlife,” Bluntzer added.

Common-sense approaches were addressed, too, such as how to adapt deer from their diet in the pen to what they will find in the pasture, TDA executive director Karl Kinsel said.

“Some of the things, like how a deer will find water, are something people don’t think about,” Kinsel said. “You put water along fence lines because, while the deer may not find water in the middle of a pasture, they will find a fence and walk along it – and they’ll find water if you put it there.”

One of the most important aspects of releasing superior deer to the native herd is that one big buck will not work wonders, Kinsel said.

“One super buck won’t change the dynamics. You need to replace 50 percent to see a visual impact,” he said.

Kinsel praised officials with the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo for incorporating wildlife into the traditional agricultural exhibition.

“In today’s agriculture it takes that diversity for any farm or ranch to stay profitable, and to have all the wildlife facets represented as well as the farm equipment and sheep and goats is a commendable step for the rodeo,” he said.

In addition, having the auction and seminars on the stock show grounds also drew a number of people who normally would not be exposed to a wildlife event, he said.

Meanwhile, the auction attracted a standing-room-only crowd of more than 1,000, as it has every year since 2005.

The highest lot, selling for $42,500, was for the sister to a buck that scored 252 at 3 years old. The doe, from High Roller Whitetails, was bred to 20/28, a buck that scored more than 310.

The second top lot came from Gene Gonzalez of Sacred Oaks Whitetails. A 4-year-old doe, the offspring of Dreambuck who scored 321 at age 4 and was bred to Kid Dynamite 282 at 2, went for $42,000.

The third highest lot, going for $37,500, was from Venado Creek Whitetails, a doe fawn not yet born that was sired by Max Dream (a Gonzalez buck and womb brother to Kid Dynamite), which scored 341-7/8 at age 2.

“This shows that deer with proven pedigrees are doing really well in the market these days,” TDA auction manager Jayce Kalmbach said.

While the lots averaged about $7,000 each, nine lots sold for more than $20,000. Straws of semen averaged between $1,000 and $1,500.

For the first time at a TDA auction, mule deer went on the block. A buck and doe sold for $26,000.

“Mule deer are a growing Texas market, and people are getting a good vibe about them after seeing the growth in whitetails,” Kalmbach said.

The next event on the TDA calendar will be the second annual Spring Gala & Deer Auction March 5-6 at the Embassy Suites Outdoor World in Grapevine.

“It started out as one of the banquets that TDA does across the state. It’s more of a fun event with silent and live auctions, Kinsel said.

The economic impact of Texas’ deer breeding industry is more than $650 million, including more than 7,000 jobs, according to a study in 2007 by Texas A&M University.

To learn more about the Texas Deer Association or for membership information, call 210.767.8300 or visit www.TexasDeerAssociation.com

About:
Kim Rhode's Olympic Team Hopeful

Acapulco, Mexico --(AmmoLand.com)- Kim Rhode took an important first step towards her quest to set an all time record for individual American Olympic athletes by winning the initial International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup competition in Acapulco, Mexico.

The four-time Olympic medalist Rhode, 30, started the final round in the lead with 72 hits after the qualifications, tied with Italy’s Diana Bacosi. In the final round, Rhode did not miss a single target while Bacosi missed three allowing Yu Xiumin to claim the silver medal with another perfect final round.

Rhode’s final perfect score gave her a combined total of 97 targets, one better than the Chinese silver medalist who finished with a 96. Amber English also shot a combined score of 96.

“It hasn’t been easy. My shotgun got stolen a couple of months ago. I got a new one, but of course it took me time to get used to it,” said Rhode, after the award ceremony.

“It’s great to be on the highest step of the podium today, these international competitions are really important now, on the path leading to the 2012 Olympic Games.”

Xiumin tied the second American finalist Amber English who was the early leader in the World Cup and edged her in the shoot off for the silver medal. Yu, a 2006 Asian Champion, had won her last ISSF World Cup medal in 2007 in Maribor.

Amber English secured the Bronze medal, joining her teammate Rhode on the podium. The 20-year-old shooter had never won an ISSF World Cup medal before.

Brought to you by - AMMO LAND.COM - Firearms & Shooting Sports News Virginia Gun Owners Coalition

Virginia --(AmmoLand.com)- Yesterday, Senator Mark Obenshain tried to get a committee vote on HB 69, the Virginia Firearms Freedom Act, that declares guns made and possessed in VA to be free of federal control under the interstate commerce clause.

Chairman Marsh was so flustered that his political boss Senator Saslaw took over the committee and ruled all Senator Obenshain’s motions out of order.

Senator Obenshain then challenged the rule of the chair and lost 12-3. All Senators except, Hurt, McDougle, and Obenshain voted wrong. Senator Saslaw then tried to get the clerk not to record the vote.

Clearly the anti-gun forces are running scared and fear the recorded vote on such a popular issue.

There is only one option left and that is to use the rarely used Senate floor procedures to put the HB 69 on the Senator floor for a recorded vote.

Senator Jill Vogel has agreed to do this.

She has asked me not to say, for now, exactly how she will do it but she agrees with me that it is critical that you contact your Senator and urge them to support her efforts to get a vote on HB 69 on the Senator Floor.

The biggest excuse against doing this will be that is violates precedent.

However, I don’t care about historical precedent. class="wp-caption-text">Ohioans For Concealed Carry

Ohio --(AmmoLand.com)- The Ohio Supreme Court today agreed to hear Cleveland v. State of Ohio, a lawsuit in which the City of Cleveland is challenging the constitutionality of statewide preemption.

The lower courts have twice denied Ohioans For Concealed Carry’s efforts to intervene in the litigation despite our role as the plaintiff in the precedent case, Ohioans For Concealed Carry v. City of Clyde.

The local courts agreed with the legislature and refused to overturn preemption, but the appeals court sided with Cleveland and, to a certain extent, challenged the Ohio Supreme Court’s precedent on this matter in our case against Clyde.

The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments later this year. In cases like this the position of the legislature (and, in this case, Ohioans For Concealed Carry) will be defended and argued by the Ohio Attorney General’s office. Attorneys representing Ohioans For Concealed Carry will file friend of the court briefs in the coming months. A pro-gun “win” in this case would be a majority decision overruling the appeals court, maintaining the Ohio Supreme Court’s recent precedent in OFCC v. Clyde.

This case highlights the importance of upcoming Ohio Supreme Court justice elections.

For more on the story <a
