ACC leaders announced May 5th that we have hired Chris Coulson as our new student minister. We are beyond excited to bring him onboard, and we truly believe God is going to use him to reach students in our community for Christ.

Chris, 25, comes to ACC from Mt. Carmel Christian Church, where he has served as the student ministries associate director. As a volunteer there for nine years, he has developed a significant amount of experience preaching, teaching and leading small groups. If you recognize Chris, you may have met him at Woodland Lakes Christian Camp, where he has also worked.

He is currently finishing up his bachelor's degree at Cincinnati Christian University, but his dream is to one day complete his PhD and become a college professor.

Chris impressed our leaders during multiple interviews. Here's a sample from his written interview about the importance of student ministry:

"Student ministry should remind students that God loves them, wants a relationship with them, and has a plan for them. Students need to learn to own their faith because when they reach adulthood the safety net is gone. If the faith they had was based on something other than a true relationship with Jesus it will crumble leaving a vacuum. Student ministry should be engaging, challenging, supportive, and should prepare students for adulthood."

Chris joins ACC after a year-long search, and we would like to extend a special thanks to the many Student Ministries team volunteers -- led by Nicki Edmisten, Tish Carwell, Cara Morrissey, Cory Vinson and Kelly Simmons -- for all the amazing work you have done with our junior and senior high students.

Bring a dish to share (and drinks for your family) and come play (or watch) with all our volunteers. We figured if we're going to be serving together during Sports Camp, we might as well get used to kick'n it together.

By the way, our huddle coaches and security team has called out our coaches, runners and support staff. We'll settle this on the field!

Others have stepped up and started cutting the grass and changing our church sign. Our volunteers are absolutely vital to the health of our ministries.

If you have not yet completed your volunteer form, please fill it out and leave it with a staff member or place it in the Service Ministry mail slot on the upstairs landing. If you still need a form, or haven't yet been contacted to serve, touch base with Service Coordinator Mike Morrissey.

We are going to feed you, train you in your role and teach you the simple dance steps that will accompany our Sports Camp worship songs. Please bring your completed background check forms and be prepared to order and pay for a $10 t-shirt.

If you have to miss the meeting, you'll need to see Tish Carwell on Sunday to get your shirt ordered in time. All volunteers will need a shirt, but let us know if purchasing it is an issue for you, and we'll take care of it.

Don't let your Jr./Sr. high students miss it. And please continue to pray over this process.

Sherry died April 13. She had been in declining health for some time. Please continue to pray for God's comfort on Sherry's entire family during this extremely difficult time.

If you are planning to walk, please let Mike Dincler know before Saturday, May 5, so he can let event planners know. Call Mike at 553-2978. Also, please have your walker registration completed.

The deadeline for WLCC's early-registration discount is April 15.

The students next regular Sunday-night gathering will be April 29 from 6:00-7:30PM at the church.

For security reasons, all volunteers will need to purchase a t-shirt and wear it each night of Sports Camp. The color will be different from last year's shirt. Please plan to order and pay for your shirt at the April 27 meeting. If you can't make the meeting, you'll need to get in touch with Tish Carwell before April 27 to assure your shirt gets ordered on time. Shirts will likely be $10 again. We will update you if that changes prior to the meeting.

All volunteers will also need a background check. This only requires filling out a simple form with some basic information. You can pick up the form from Sports Camp Director Julie Bach, and you must fill it out by April 27. All information will be kept confidential. If you've had a background check for the church already, you won't need a new one. If you have one from the school, you'll need to provide a copy.

If you aren't able to volunteer but you want to help make an impact at Sports Camp, we have an immediate need for cash donations to help purchase water bottles for every child. This will be given to each child who attends, and it will give them a direct connection to our church and website. Please give your donation to Julie Bach by April 27. Questions? Send them to Julie.

If you haven't heard by now, ACC's free Sports Camp literally impacts hundreds of young people from our community, and we need all hands on deck to pull it off.

We promise this will be an amazing experience, and it all happens in the evenings during the week of June 10th at Batavia Township Park. To do this with excellence, we need at least 75 passionate volunteers to serve as everything from huddle coaches, to set-up crews, to water teams. In other words, we have a place for you to serve, and we promise you'll have a blast.

Our biggest need is for huddle coaches. You don't have to know a thing about sports to be a huddle coach. As a huddle coach, your group of 8-10 kids will report to you every night at drop off. It is your job to love them, boost their spirits and get them ready for an awesome and exhausting night of fun. Between sports sessions, you'll get a chance to huddle up with your group for a few minutes to share that night's lesson. Don't worry, everything you need will be provided in a clear and simple way.

A couple things we do require of our volunteers: Everyone must fill out a background check form, and everyone will need to purchaes a $10 T-shirt. Don't worry, they are awesome.

ACC to have two services on Easter

After speaking to individuals and organizations directly involved with the response to the storms that struck Moscow, we have determined that there is currently an overflow of volunteer help in this small town.

As such, the disaster assistance team we plan to partner with has advised us that they are not even returning to the area in the immediate days ahead. Our plan is to continually reassess the situation and need as the first and second responders vacate the area.

We want to be sensitive to the needs of the victims of this disaster while also not hindering their progress by simply getting in the way.

As soon as opportunities arise for our church to assist in the coming weeks and months, we will be sharing ways you can help. Rest assured that we are constantly evaluating the most effective ways to assist with this disaster. Our volunteer team will be led by Tim and Carol Sexton.

Also, remember, we'll be taking up another special offering this Sunday (March 11) for Bill and Stacey Loyd, the family of Heather and Andrew Knollman who lost their home . Huge thanks to all those who have given already. You guys are amazing!
