MWC 2011: 7-inch HTC Flyer Tablet has 1.5GHz CPU

Features revised HTC Sense UI, 32GB onboard storage and a 5 megapixel camera at back

At the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2011, HTC Corp. is expected to announce a much rumoured tablet computer. Branded as HTC Flyer, the tablet will have 7-inch touchscreen display and a 5 megapixel camera at the back as reported by Seattle Times. Packing 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, HTC Flyer is packed in aluminium housing. Sporting new HTC Sense UI, the Flyer tablet will run Google Android 2.4 update and is upgradable to Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

HTC Flyer appears to be a real competitor of Samsung Galaxy Tab. Bearing a 7-inch display that supports 1024x600 pixel resolution, Flyer houses 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Flyer comes with 32GB on-board storage and will feature HSPA+ network support.

Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC North America said that Flyer will also have stylus as it is more polite way of taking notes than typing on the tablet or laptop during a meeting.

HTC Flyer will feature a revised version of HTC Sense user interface that is likely to be meant for tablets only just like Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Flyer has a 5 megapixel camera at the back and a 1.3 megapixel camera in the front for video conferencing.

For the U.S. region HTC would be offering Flyer with OnLive games streaming service preloaded on it. OnLive lets you stream and play all latest as well as popular games from the cloud servers with PC level graphics. HTC will announce the pricing and availability of Flyer with OnLive bundle later this year.

The Flyer tablet will also feature HTC's new video download service called Watch and as of now, we don't know if it would be limited just to U.S. or certain other regions only. The company was also rumoured to introduce Android Honeycomb based tablets later this year. HTC Flyer would be available in March this year.

Nokia E7 gets listed for a Whopping Rs. 30,000

Back in December we reported that Nokia E7, which was suppose to ship in January 2011, has been held back for uncertain reasons. Now, the first Symbian^3 running E-Series smartphone - Nokia E7 gets listed on India's online retailer site Infibeam.com with arrival hinted as Coming Soon. Though its arrival period is uncertain, this top of the line E-series smartphone would be available at an approximate cost of Rs. 30,000.

From the buzz we heard, the Finnish handset maker will hold a pompous launch event for this business segment friendly smartphone. Closely similar to Nokia N8, the E7 features a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard that has nicely laid out keys. But is it actually comfortable for typing? We'll come to know that only after using it.

Rumor: iPhone 5 to feature A5 processor, iPad 2 stays with A4

The oft-quoted DigiTimes, a Taiwanese tech industry favorite publication, has revealed that Apple is outsourcing the production of its A5 processor chip, which many expect will be based on the ARM Cortex A9 design and used in the forthcoming iPhone 5, to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.
AppleInsider reports that Apple's A4 chip is currently produced by Samsung Electronics, but the move to Taiwan Semiconductor for production of the A5 chip is because of Samsung's inability to keep up with Apple's supply demands.
This rumor follows many regarding Apple's iPhone lineup, including a larger, 4-inch screen and an iPhone Nano.
The DigiTimes report also speculates that the iPad 2 will retain use of the current A4 chip, though it will be an
enhanced version of it. The iPhone 5 will be the first to sport the new A5 chip.

Original Story: Dell has pulled the plug on its Adamo premium ultraportable laptop range, rival to Apple's MacBook Air line of ultaportable laptops, a Dell representative confirmed. The Dell Adamo luxury laptop was first launched at CES 2009, locking horns with Apple's premium thin MacBook Air laptop -- which was launched a year earlier in January 2008. The most recent Adamo laptop is the Dell Adamo XPS.

The Dell Adamo luxury ultraportable line lasted for just two years, and according to one Dell executive the Dell Adamo series was "the pinnacle of style and product design [for Dell]." The existing Dell Adamo XPS measured between 0.38-inch to 0.40-inch compared to the original Dell Adamo's 0.65-inch thickness -- thinner (but not lighter) than the 13-inch Apple MacBook Air at the time.

The Adamo XPS also had an interesting hinge design and placement. Not too long ago, the Dell Adamo XPS claimed to be the thinnest laptop in the world.

It's unfortunate that Dell has decided to discontinue the Adamo series. Globally, the demise of Dell's Adamo ultraportable laptop line is blamed upon poor sales despite heavy retail discounts. This points to the fact that Apple's MacBook Air line is seemingly unbeatable in the luxury ultraportable laptop segment. Existing models of Dell Adamo laptops stuck in the retail channel will be sold off, with future production discontinued.

However, the essence of Dell Adamo -- thin design, premium focus, luxury product, etc. -- will live on. A new MacBook Air competitor along the lines of Dell Adamo will be launched within the next six months, according to CNET's source, and the challenge will be taken by a laptop falling under Dell's existing product line -- Inspiron, XPS, or Alienware.

The future heir of Dell's Adamo laptop will sport a compelling design for an ultraportable laptop, CNET further said. For the moment, Apple's MacBook Air ultraportable is ruling the roost with hardly any competition, especially to the 11-inch MacBook Air.

But even before Motorola could officially launch the Defy rugged phone, Flipkart started selling the Motorola Defy at Rs. 17,999 as early as last week. So how's the Motorola Defy better or worse than any other Android phone at its price point?

Motorola Defy

All the buzz surrounding the Motorola Defy Android phone is about its rugged build quality. In Motorola's own words, the Defy is dust proof and water resistant. The Motorola Defy also has a scratch resistant touchscreen display. So we guess it can take a few knocks without breaking apart.

Motorola Defy: Feature, Specs
The Defy doesn't come with the latest Android version, disappointingly, it has only Android 2.1 Eclair. The phone has a 3.7-inch WVGA screen and a 5MP camera with LED flash. The Motorola Defy supports expandable memory up to 32GB.

The phone is DLNA-compliant, meaning you can connect the Motorola Defy to stream, store and share content to compatible devices in your home -- HDTVs, game consoles and PCs. The Motorola Defy Android phone also features Swype gesture for smooth, fluid text input using one continuous finger motion. With the Defy, you can access 3G mobile hotspots as well.

For connectivity ports, the Motorola Defy has 0.35mm audio jack, USB 2.0 port and Bluetooth A2DP support. The phone supports popular audio (AAC, AAC+, MP3, WAV, etc.) and video (H.264) codecs. Its camera captures VGA quality video at 30 fps.

Motorola Defy sells witha a 2GB microSD card. The phone retails for Rs. 21,990 but is currently available at a best buy price of Rs. 18,990 -- more than Flipkart's current selling price.
