Private Label Rights (PLR) is ready-made and sold to many people, and they have the same content as you. It comes in many forms, articles, audio, courses, ebooks, graphics, software, video, and websites.

We are going to talk about written PLR content. Like PLR articles, you can rewrite them, make them unique, and post them on a blog as your own. Affiliate marketers and content marketers use PLR, and so can you.

There is free PLR content and paid PLR material. You have to be careful with free PLR. It may be outdated material, poor quality, poor choice of keywords, or it might be a free sample showing a writer’s quality. You might get lucky if you look hard enough.

Paid PLR content is usually found on PLR Websites or offered for sale in forums. You might want to buy something from different suppliers to compare the quality of their PLR.

Buy quality PLR whenever you can. It will be on a better topic and use better keywords and keyword phrases. Keyword phrases are sometimes called long-tail keywords.

You may be rewriting a PLR article for your blog. Maybe you got a private label rights ebook or report to use as an enticement to give to people that sign up to your mailing list. If you have a newsletter PLR articles can be used to create content.

Give them good content they can use or use to learn something. So the reader doesn’t feel like they just wasted their time. Use this opportunity to position yourself as an expert.

Everyone has their voice and way of talking. It’s great to add that kind of flare when rewriting PLR content. Make it sound like you’re saying it directly to the reader. But at the same time, you want the spelling and grammar to be correct.

Whatever you edit your content in, it probably has a spell checker. That’s at least something you can use. Also, never use an article spinner. Some text editors don’t have spellcheck; some do. You could always spell check on the fly when you enter your article in your blog editor.

Another thing I do is add at least three additional paragraphs. An opening paragraph tells the reader what to expect in the following content. At least one in the body related to the rest of the content you improved. Include a good closing paragraph. That’s the bare minimum.

Suppose your having a problem coming up with additional content. I find some excellent content from other sources on the web. I look for something they have that my article and other people don’t have (golden nugget).

It takes a little time to search for those golden nuggets. If you can, spend enough time to find two or three in-depth articles. Open the articles in different tabs.

I’ll take the time to read those articles so it soaks in, and then write a paragraph in my own words. That way, you get good info to share but write about it in your own words from something you just learned. You never want to copy someone’s writing.

Doing what I do will keep you from doing that. See if you can find 2 or 3 paragraphs talking about the same thing by different authors all the better. If you’re writing something longer, repeat that and do it again.

You can find one golden nugget at a time until you have a longer article worth reading. Statistics show longer content gets more visitors. But don’t write long sentences just so your word count is high.

Long is good unless it’s stretched with worthless filler and fluff. Give people more information than they need or expect. It will take a little extra time, but you only have to write it once. You benefit from it long-term.

Remember, use your PLR content as an outline to expand upon or for ideas. Then turn out something better. I’m not telling you to reinvent the wheel. Just make a better wheel.

You may want to check what keywords and phrases people use to find info on your topic. Writing about what people are searching for now and incorporating those keywords translates into more visitors to your site.

There are online keyword tools you can use for free. When adding additional content, you can see what people search for and even get content ideas. Use more than one tool for more ideas. Free tools often limit how many keywords they show you—usually 20 or 30.

I guarantee there are always people using PLR content just the way they get it. Don’t be one of those people. I use PLR as more of an outline or starter content. By the time you finish, it should look different.

People search many places when they are looking for something. Be the one that has the info they want and more. Be the blog they want to bookmark. Always over-deliver.

They won’t be back if they come to your website and see the same content on other sites. They may leave as soon as they see the first sentence, and is called a bounce by Google. It’s a serious indicator of the value of your content. The higher the bounce rate, the more you go back in the search results.

The thing that has helped me the most is Grammarly. I used Grammarly premium when I wrote this article. They have a free version and a paid version. You can get the paid version as a monthly or yearly subscription.

There are Grammarly addons/extensions you can add to your browser too. I added them to Firefox, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge.

If you choose the free version, you must create an account even If you want to use the free browser addons. But it’s worth the five minutes it takes to sign up.

The free account gives you basic writing suggestions: spelling, grammar, punctuation, and conciseness. The premium account adds Clarity-focused rewrites, tone adjustments, plagiarism checks, formality level, fluency, and additional advanced suggestions.

I often write, so I tried the free version for a few days and was impressed. I thought to myself. If the free version is this good, I want to try the paid version. I use it every day, and getting the premium account was well worth it.

Grammarly will help you rewrite PLR content so it looks and sounds better, easier, and faster. Plus, you have it for all the other things you write. Also, when commenting on blogs, forums, social media, and writing documents.

I want to mention that some places are a real pain to cancel something. Grammarly makes it easy. Quality service providers always make it easy to sign up and leave. Try it for a month. You’ll get hooked like I am.

You can end your Subscription quickly any time you want. Just go to your account. Click on Subscription, and at the bottom is the cancel subscription link. Your account will revert to a free account at the end of the subscription period, monthly or yearly, with only the free features.

Did I mention that they send you an email every week telling you how you did compare to other Grammarly users? I like seeing how many words I wrote last week, how many alerts I triggered, how many unique words I used, and how productive I was.

So now that you have a fantastic tool to make it easier and fun, you might even enjoy yourself each time you rewrite PLR content.

If you have a specific topic in mind, you can use “Find” in your browser to find content just in that niche. How? You may ask.

If you use Firefox, click “Edit” in the menu, then select – Find. A search box will open in the bottom left of the Firefox browser window.

If you use Microsoft Edge, click the three dots in the browser’s upper right to open the “Settings and more” menu. In the menu, then select – “Find on page.” A search box will open in the top center of the Microsoft Edge browser window.

If you use Google Chrome, click the three dots in the upper right of the browser to open the “Customize and control Google Chrome” menu. Then select – “Find…” A search box will open in the upper right of the Google Chrome browser window.

This free option has gone beyond free blogs. You should think before you use your prized idea for a name. That includes using it on social sites when creating pages, groups, or a community.

I’m not saying to stay away from them they do have value. Some people need free options when starting out. They have a place in everyone’s strategy. But be forewarned there are more than readers perusing these sites.

Free can sound attractive when you consider you can do it without even buying a domain name. However, buying a domain name might not be the area to pinch pennies.

You can buy a domain name for $15 a year. That’s less than 5 cents a day. One less expense and free sounds good but my personal experience may change your mind.

I started a blog on Blogger (Blogspot) some years ago and thought the name I came up with was good. After about 8 months I thought of doing more with it than Blogspot could offer. I was getting some good organic traffic and repeat visitors too.

Even though I neglected to post regularly it had good traffic. Was it the free platform it was on? No, it was the topic and unique content people wanted.

Later, I decided to go buy the domain name and to my surprise, it wasn’t available. I found out it was taken a couple of days after I used the name on Blogspot. Coincidence maybe but I have my doubts. I was being diplomatic I don’t believe in coincidence.

I checked out the domain and found it was parked and up for sale. It was stated that the current owner expected $2000. Out of my range. Byte me!

I noted the renewal date for the domain and checked it regularly. I don’t know why but this time the renewal didn’t happen and within 2 hours of it going back to available I bought it.

A domain name doesn’t become available again instantly there is a process to it. I finally got my domain name and at the regular price. I was lucky because they could have renewed it. Someone may have bought it while it was parked or could have bought it before me after it became available again.

I just want to recommend that if you’re going to use an awesome name on a free or paid hosted platform it might be wise to buy your domain name before everybody else sees it. If you do decide you want to be free of the platform limitations or policy or if they decide to delete your account you have your domain name.

Even though you may not use your domain on the free platforms you can point it toward your free site. You can always park it. Most domain name registrars give you free parking and free forwarding.

If you later decide you don’t want it you can sell it. But don’t come up with a good name and expect it to be there later unless you buy it before putting it out there for the world to see.

Free platforms can be a valuable option and I don’t discount that. However you’re at their mercy and at any moment your blog, social profile, page, group, or channel could disappear without warning. If you buy the name you use on the free platform it’s gives you options.

Free sounds good in the beginning but it’s their rules, not yours. You’re limited by their policies, terms of service and the capabilities of their platform, and the features they support. Just because it’s free today doesn’t mean it will be free tomorrow.

Free sounds good until you log in and it’s gone or someone hacked your account. Tip: Always keep a copy of anything you post that has value. If they do delete your account you still have your content to use elsewhere.

They give you free whois protection for life. If someone does a whois search on your domain they won’t see your name, address, email, and phone number. I have all my domains there.

I have all my WordPress sites there and have used them for 10+ years. I use shared hosting plans because you get cPanel which gives you full access to everything you might need.

If you have any questions give them a call or use live chat. I like to try out their customer service before I need it. You can get a feel for how it works and how you will be treated when a real support question comes up. Then ask yourself if they treated you like a valued customer or an annoyance.

Well after you start seeing some success as an affiliate, you’re probably going to combine those efforts with your own product creation as most super affiliates do. Selling affiliate products gives you an education into the needs and wants of your customers.

You’ll see what they’re buying, what’s refunding, and what they keep asking for if you’re tuning into the forums and communicating with the list that you’re building. Affiliates often make the best product owners and give the best customer support.

They take a niche, test the waters without having to do the work of the creators, and use that raw data to generate something ten times better than what their competitors have produced!

Those who start out as product owners never have any comparison data to use to their advantage. They only know about how their product succeeds (or fails) in the marketplace.

You’ll want to see what’s being done in your niche and do it even better. Is everyone only selling text-based information? You might create a product with a media combination of text, video, and MP3 files to increase the appearance of value.

Is there something nobody’s addressing in your niche? Or an area where others have just glossed over and not gone in depth? If you have a list – you can poll your subscribers about what they’d like to see and then make it for them. You already have the attention of your list. If you have a website or blog it might be a good place to have a poll.

If you use analytic software for you traffic or use Google analytics you can review the search keywords used to find your site. These search terms can give a idea what people are looking for. You can also do a search on these same keywords and keyword phrases to see what else they are finding besides you.

Two important things to consider when you decide to make a product. Are you making a product that other people will buy. Often people think they have the best idea for a product. Unfortunately the people they are trying to sell it to don’t feel the same way. You also need to get your product seen by the right people. Many products fall by the wayside because the people that would buy them never know they exist.

There are more transitional steps you can take if you are still overwhelmed by the creation process. You could hire freelancers to create it for you. You could buy PLR (private label rights), MRR (master resell rights) or RR (resell rights) to an existing product. The various rights give you different levels on control but you can sell the product and keep 100 percent of the money.

If you buy rights look for a really good product. It will take work to find one and it may be be a waiting game. Rights to good products often become available for short periods of time and in limited quantity. Like when the owner needs money fast for something important like taxes, to stop foreclosure on their house, a personal or family emergency and you could put natural disaster in the list.

Being a product owner is not a difficult feat once you have the information at your fingertips. It’s just getting there the first time. You don’t have to be afraid of this journey because even if you can’t write well or create audio or video productions, there’s always outsourcing available.

All you need is an outline of your ideas and you can even provide research to your freelancer and they’ll create a unique, one-of-a-kind product that you can sell with your name on it! That is a highly simplified statement but once you learn where to find outsourcing and quality freelancers and how to use the system it can be easily repeated.

They’re not stupid – they know that not every product is perfect. They expect to see its flaws if the review is real, and they’re even willing to put up with some flaws whenever you expose them upfront and especially if you provide another solution to what’s missing or inferior.

As an affiliate, it’s your responsibility to do more than just link people to products. They’re looking to you for a recommendation – and hopefully, they’re building trust in your insight (because trust translates into future sales)!

So here’s what you do: Pick a product you can use and buy it. I know you will hear people say ask for a review copy. This happens so often by people just trying to get a freebie that many product owners won’t do this.

If you don’t have a website, blog or list and are just starting out you may not have success going the review copy route. However it may be more plausible if you already have a vehicle to review and or advertise their product or can prove previous performance. Something they can see or verify.

If you can’t afford to pay for the product give it a shot. Explain your situation and interest in reviewing their product and why. You may find a product owner that will work with you. They haven’t all become jaded. If one says no you have two choices.

You can try a second contact expressing your sincerity and try to establish a dialog to give you a chance if not now in the future. Don’t be a pest or demanding. Leave a good impression. Think of it as planting seeds for the future. Or you can just move on and find another product and give it another try.

If you’re going to use the product for affiliate marketing I advise you buy it just as any one else would. It’s easier to write an honest review if you pay for it. In addition you get to experience everything from start to finish. Doing the purchase and finding what’s behind the sales page besides the product is valuable too.

Now you have a product and it’s time to take it for a test drive. Don’t just rush through it and then write about it – actually use it or DO what the product says to do. In your review you want to convey more than it sounds like it will work or it seems worth while.

If it was worth buying it’s worth trying. This is why I recommend picking a product you want to use yourself. If you do that you’ll have the proper perspective to write what people want to know.

A review that gives a case study and shows your actual results will convert into many more sales than one that just skims over the highlights (they can get that by reading the sales copy).

If possible, make a video review of what you did, without giving away all of the secrets of the item you’re promoting. Create a viral PDF case study review, too. Include screen shots where applicable.

Whenever you write a review, be honest. Tell them what didn’t work or what you didn’t like, but then segue into what you DID like and why it was still worth every penny. If it says you can complete a task in 7 minutes but it took you 10, be real about that.

If it was missing an important lesson, go one step further. Write up that lesson and give it as a bonus to anyone who buys the product through your link! You might say, “The guide was great, but he left out a very important lesson – but don’t worry – if you buy it through this link, I’m going to share that with you so that you really DO get the complete package.”

Affiliate reviews have to have balance between the good and the bad. And it’s human nature to read the bad first and then see what the good reviews have to say. If you lead in with the bad and convert it into a positive review, the reader will feel as if you’re being upfront and honest with him.

I’m talking 10 THOUSAND keywords. A complete arsenal of words and phrases that help you overcome your competition in the search engine results pages! You might be wondering if 10,000 is overkill.

It’s not. Know why? Keywords affect almost every aspect of your affiliate business. Here are a few ways you’re going to be using those keywords and phrases:

1.) On Squidoo – in your URL, in your tag list, in each title of every module, and in the content itself! You don’t want to use the exact same phrase over and over again, so having 10,000 to choose from will work well with your content efforts.

2.) On Hub Pages – in your URL, in your tag list, in your capsule titles, and in the content itself.

3.) In the URL of your domain name.

4.) In the articles you submit to directories – including the title, the tag list, and the content itself.

5.) In your pay per click campaigns. You will be paying for every click that comes through, so you want to use the most relevant keywords and phrases that connect to your niche.

6.) In your blogs – in the domain itself, in the titles, in the content, and in the tags you connect each entry to.

7.) In your video marketing – when you tag a YouTube video you made with your Camtasia tool, or Jing a cheaper solution but has limitations, you’ll pull from that 10k keyword list.

The list goes on. It’ll work when you pull them for forum posts, for review sites, for comments in other people’s blogs, when positioning a backlink to your site and you need anchor text to use. The proper use of keywords is key to SEO (search engine optimization).

You’ll want to use both free and paid keyword tools. Some of them will download right onto your hard drive while others allow you to log in and access the tools online. Either way, dig down deep and harvest both the prime and long-tail keywords so that you amass a wealth of information to present to human readers and search engine robots alike.

But it’s hard to know what all of the confusing affiliate marketing terminology means when you’re new. In this Affiliate Marketing Glossary and collection of internet marketing terms (terminology) you’ll get my definitions. Most definitions will a be little longer describing the way I have come to know them.

It’s sort of a Affiliate Marketing Glossary according to John Collins. Long form versions to help you get an understanding of the lingo. Here are some important affiliate marketing words and phrases you need to know:)

AdWords – This is Google’s PPC (Pay Per Click) service. It’s by far the most popular. It is an advertising tool used to attract visitors to a site, product or affiliate product. You can control where your ads show by selecting from options – search, content or both. It is keyword driven. You decide what keyword(S) you want to trigger the appearance of your ad. It costs you every time some one clicks on your ad. The more popular the keyword the more it will cost for each click. The actual cost is determined by several factors.

When people include your keyword or keyword phrase, in the search term they use, your ad will display on one of the search result pages. If you select the content option the ad will appear in the ads that display on web sites. For your ad to be displayed on a website it must be set up in the Google AdSense service. AdWords is for those that want to create and display ads. You pay every time your ad is clicked. AdSense is for web site owners that want to display those ads. They get paid if a visitor to their site clicks on your ad.

Affiliate Marketing – When you sign up to promote someone else’s products or services and you receive a percentage of the sale as your commission.

Affiliate Marketplace – The site you use to find products that you want to promote as an affiliate. The most popular options are ClickBank, JV Zoo, and EJUNKIE for information products and Amazon, Commission Junction, Rakuten Marketing, or Share-a-Sale for tangible items. There are many others.

Although I mention CJ a.k.a. Commission Junction I am not recommending them for beginners. If you don’t send enough traffic to its offers they will quickly delete your account. And they don’t notify you so you continue to send potential buyers to an offer and get nothing for it

Domain Name – This is the web based name for your web site. It becomes part if your online web address. You must buy a domain name as the saying goes but the fact is you must pay yearly to keep the name. You buy and manage your domain name through a domain name registrar. You host your site at a web hosting company which is different. Some companies offer both domain names and hosting but I advise not having both at the same place.

At the domain name registrar where you buy your domain name you will have a domain manager control panel. In your domain manager control panel you enter the server names you get from your web hosting company. When a person types in your web address the domain registrar points the request to those servers. Your site is found at the hosting site and your web site is displayed in the persons browser. The domain name for this site, for example, is AffiliateMoneyTips.com. For the majority of my domain names I happily use NameCheap.

Keyword – A keyword is the word of phrase that relates to your topic. If you chose to be an affiliate in the dog niche, then your keywords might include dog training, dog food, and dog breeds. You can refine it even more. Dog food could become natural dog food or human grade dog food or organic dog food.

Depending for what your going to use your keywords, you may slightly alter how you choose keywords. There are plenty of people that have their own techniques and guidelines for research and selection. Plenty of people will say the have found the holy grail when it comes to keywords. Is there one best way? I don’t think so. There are multiple ways to get excellent results. Even if you follow an experts instructions you’ll probably end up modifying them as your understanding grows.

Keywords are used for advertising using Pay Per Click (PPC) via Google, MSN or Yahoo and many others. You use them for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on your site, your links, your reviews and in your posts. You incorporate them into the articles you submit to article directories.

Now that Search Engines are using Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) the proper use of keywords is important. For best results you use your main keyword but you also will want to include related keywords. I usually use a variety of related keywords. From single word high search high competition keywords to less used, but with tighter focus, longtail keyword phrases of 4 to 6 words.

The effectiveness of your keywords has more to do with what terms people are searching with at the moment. Keyword research can only give you past results. Anything that happens in the future can shift what people enter for a search term away from your keywords.

If I see something in the news, spreading over the internet, on popular shows like Oprah that relates, I may add addition keywords to an existing post. I usually don’t change what’s already there but add a couple of new sentences or a paragraph. People will often hear a keyword phrase, from one of these sources, and immediately start searching. They don’t input there own search term they search the phrase they just heard. I don’t do this every time but if something really takes off I will.

This can be effectively used with PPC keyword campaigns for almost instant results. I often use tools that are for PPC (Pay Per Click) keyword research or spying to get keywords and keyword phases. After all people are paying to use those keywords for ads they are running. If somebody is willing to pay for them, long term, they are probably worth considering for your articles and posts. They do the research and you can quickly just borrow them.

Don’t let learning how to use keywords intimidate you. Before long you’ll get the hang of it and it becomes second nature. Even if you haven’t got a clue your understanding will increase steadily and it all starts to fall in place. Have fun with it and experiment. You may become the next expert.

Longtail – Longtail keywords are usually phrases with more words that are more focused. They often resemble partial sentences. Broad keywords have more competition, which means fewer sales for you as an affiliate. Cell phone cover, for example, would be hard to rank for in the search engines.

But a phrase like env cell phone covers for the orange env would get you ranked high because fewer people would be targeting it. However, the people who type that phrase into the search engine would be more prone to buy.

Just don’t limit yourself to one longtail keyword. You may want to use it as your primary focus and use a few times. I would still use additional related keywords and related long tail keyword phrases. Even though you will target searchers with a presumed better response rate there is no guarantee. A shorter main topic keyword may get you excellent sales or traffic sometimes.

Keywords are important but results come from what your visitor sees when they get to the destination. Sometimes you must run more than one search to find the best longtail keyword phrases. Remember you don’t just make the keyword up and expect them use it. You have to track down the keyword phrases that they are using.

I look for lontail keyword phrases that have a low competition ratio. A good searcher count with low competition for the search term. At the same time trying to find longtail keywords that are very focused. I sometimes use more than one keyword tool to zero in on my target keywords. I may use one tool Keyword tool to find the keyword phrases and the Google tool to check for competition.

You can do this with Google AdWords Keyword Tool and it’s one of the free tools. Just remember Google shows a history based on monthly search volume for Google only. There are keyword tools that report daily search and cover multiple search engines. They may include searches from Google, MSN, Yahoo and others.

Many people don’t even know about longtail keywords or keyword phrases. People are becoming more aware of the benefit of longtail but it’s really just starting. This is the best time to use longtail keywords while competition for them is still low.

Another thing I do is look at the search terms that brought people to my blog. They are often longtail. Sometimes for a topic or product I only lightly talk about. Maybe one random sentence with a casual mention and they end up on my blog.

If I see repeated use of the term or other related terms I may look into it. If I’m already getting results for a longtail keyword like this why not use it. This might mean people are searching the topic and not finding what they what. It doesn’t take much time to add the information these lost searchers are looking for.

PPC – PPC stands for Pay Per Click, which is like AdWords – where you pay every time someone clicks through on your ad. But the good thing is, you choose which keywords and phrases you want to target.

Squeeze (or Landing) Page – This is the page where you’ll capture the name and email address of the visitor in exchange for giving them something of value in return, such as a short eBook or weekly course. It usually only contains a headline, a short descriptive introduction, and the bullet points summing up the offer.

Web 2.0 – The second evolution of the web where peer influence is more important than business to consumer sales pitches. The world of web 2.0 includes sites like MySpace, Squidoo, Hub Pages, blogs, and article directories.

If you ever hear someone throwing around words that you don’t know in the world of affiliate marketing, just Google it and you’re bound to find a good explanation of it.

On some sites, like ClickBank, you can see the statistics for the product that show you how many people (affiliates just like you) are making sales with it. But you have to remember that it’s your name on the line, too – especially if you’re building a list and making personal recommendations to your list about how they should spend their money.

Depending on how saturated the niche is, you may have more choices that cause more confusion! Here’s how to gauge a product for its profit potential:

There was a time when anyone could ask for a review copy and get it. But from so many people using this technique to just get free products and then not promote them, product owners limit or filter the requests.  They may say they are only giving out 10 review copies or ask you to prove you have a way to promote a product.

This is assuming it’s an info product and not a tangible. Most product owners don’t mind giving you a review copy for free once you have some experience because they know it’ll bring in many more sales. If you are experienced and they’re not giving you one, be wary – they may not feel confident that their own product is up to snuff!

See what other customers have thought about the product. A million sales won’t do you any good if there are a million refund requests that go along with it! You want to search for product reviews by paying customers to see how they felt the product helped them.

See if the payout is worth it. You can’t just go by percentage for commissions. A low-priced product might pay 75%, but if it’s a $100 product, and you’re making $75 per sale, that’s still not as much as 10% of a $1,500 product or course, which would pay you $150 – TWICE the commission!

Take time to determine what’s in your best interest and that of your affiliate customers before making any recommendations for information products, tangibles, or services.

Don’t misguidedly send your bookmarked traffic straight to the product owner’s pitch page. Send them to your landing page instead. You want to encourage people to bookmark and share your link on social bookmarking sites like Technorati, del.icio.us, Digg, and StumbleUpon (to name a few).

When someone lands on a blog post that you wrote that interest them, for example, they can click the bookmarking button below it and decide which sites they want to share it on.

The link will usually auto-fill, and then the person posting the link will enter the description about the page as well as tags (keywords) that relates to the article or post. Then other people will see their list, follow the links, and share them to their audience.

Social bookmarking is a very viral element of affiliate marketing that can help increase your link exposure and list-building efforts substantially. Make sure if you’re bookmarking your own links that you also bookmark some that aren’t yours, so that you don’t appear to be spamming the system. And make sure you always encourage your readers to bookmark your page, too!

Most affiliates use WordPress blogs, but instead of leaving them on the WordPress network (which means you have to abide by their rules), they host the blog on their own domain. A domain name is around $10 a year and hosting can run as little as $4.95 a month.

If you have a domain and you want to set up a WordPress blog on it, you’ll go into your cpanel for your hosting account and click the Fantastico button. Then you’ll choose WordPress from the sidebar and enter the details of the blog before finishing it up.

It will default to a basic WordPress theme, but you’ll probably want to find a template that matches the niche that you’re in. There are hundreds of free WordPress theme sites on the ‘net. Once you find one you like, upload the file into your Themes folder and choose that theme to represent your site.

When the blog is set up, all you’ll have to do is start posting to it! Blog entries don’t have to be as long as articles. They can be short, but informative – just like this one is! Within the posts, you can hyperlink references to affiliate products that you promote, but that’s not your only advertising option.

The sidebar, header, and footer of a blog also allows you to place advertisements, which might be textual or image-based, depending on your preferences. You can also add some Google AdSense ads into your blog and earn money whenever a visitor clicks out to one of those links.

You may believe that because you’re an affiliate and not a product owner, you can’t have a list, but that’s not true! You’re building a business with your affiliate marketing strategy, and you want long-term rewards that come with your efforts.

Just because you’re an affiliate doesn’t mean you can’t create a short freebie (like a five-page report or a two-week email course) to encourage people to sign up with you. You start with something free and of value, and when your prospects build trust in you, they become loyal – and they’re more likely to listen to your recommendations as an affiliate.

Travis “The Bum” Sago, who first built the Bum Marketing strategy was very savvy about his list-building efforts. He gave away an entire course on affiliate marketing for free and amassed an enormous list.

The value of his course ensured that whenever he blasted his list with a paid product recommendation, he would convert many of those emails into sales. A single email blast, known as a solo ad, can command five figure days as an affiliate (if not more). So should you be building a list as an affiliate? If not, you’re leaving money on the table!

When you decide to start a newsletter list or marketing list you need a way to allow people to sign up and a way to manage your list.  This can be a hard choice when starting out.  Internet Marketers will try and entice you to use scripts on your own site, sign up to sites and memberships that offer hosting with autoresponders as a free feature, and services that don’t do what they promise.

Don’t make that mistake.  Sooner or later you will realize the downside and the time you spend moving your list could be better utilized.  Not to mention it’s not fun.  The most important things are easy to use. support, reliability in getting your newsletter or sales pitch to the intended destination.  If you’re going to have a list there are only 2 options as far as I’m concerned.  AWeber or Get Response.

I have been doing this for some time and I’m on the lists of many marketers.  I constantly have marketers email me to say they are moving their lists for many reasons.  If I would like to stay on their list I need to confirm it with the new service.   Where do they end up when they wise up.  AWeber or Get Response.  So don’t let some marketers bad advice or commission inspired guiding hand lead you to the wrong choice.

Your list will become one of your most prized assets because of it’s earning potential.  This is one area of your business you want to get right the first time you do it.  No matter what kind of list you start with you want it to become your customer list.

You don’t want to focus on trendy, time-based products (like Bird Flu) until you’re a seasoned affiliate who knows how to quickly dominate a topic and cash in before the feeding frenzy is over.

Instead, find evergreen niches – niche topics that will always be around for years to come. You’re going to be planting the seeds of your affiliate marketing efforts in many places, and you don’t want to have to revisit them and change them or start from scratch.

Evergreen topics are things like parenting (there are always new parents), gardening, weddings, eBay, acne, dating, and more. But here’s the catch: don’t just promote broad, basic niche topics – drill down in a niche to convert your sales even more!

For example – a “wedding planning” eBook just has too much competition. Brides are pummeled by wedding planning information online – not to mention the myriad of resources available for a cheap price at local bookstores.

For increased profitability, narrow that down. Promote an eBook on Wedding Theme Ideas or How to Have a Backyard Wedding. Even trend-based topics that you know will be around might work, such as How to Have an Eco-Friendly Wedding.

When determining your time, you need to consider what talents you have that you can do fast and what you’d need help with. Your time has a price on it. If it takes you two hours to write a one-page article, then it might be worth it to pay a freelancer $10 a page to do it for you.

Think about how much your time is worth.

Do you want $20 an hour? $100 an hour? More? You might have to absorb some of the tasks yourself when you’re first starting out, but as you begin seeing commissions, turn around and invest some of those profits right back into your business so that you eventually get to a point where everything’s outsourced and on auto-pilot and all you have to do is maintain the momentum.

A small investment of a keyword tool, for instance, can help shave hours off of your research time and will also help you achieve better results than if you went with a shallow free tool.

Free tools do the job – they just require more effort on your part. Another free versus paid option is in your advertising efforts. You might want to save money and spend time building free Squidoo lenses and Hub Pages or submitting articles to EzineArticles.com.

But the results for these take time getting indexed and igniting a traffic fire. Your paid option of using a Google AdWords campaign means you start funneling targeted traffic within mere minutes.

Some of the tasks associated with affiliate market require talent. Who’s going to write your content for Squidoo lenses or article marketing? Will it be you (the free option) or a freelancer (the paid version)?

Others only want to dabble in it part-time, doing as little work as possible to make a return on their investment of time. Your income will correlate directly with the amount of effort you put into it.

Some affiliates earn six figure salaries from their online promotions. The ones who achieve this are called Super Affiliates, and they do more than just plant links all over the ‘net. They also use time saving tools and automate as many things as they can.

Super Affiliates know the one key to true online success – building a list. Affiliate marketers who have a list can make product recommendations and command a five-figure day with the blast of a single email.

As an affiliate, you’ll be given a unique hyperlink with your ID embedded into it that you can use to funnel traffic to the pitch page. Hopefully, the product owner’s sales copy will convert well, allowing you to make money. All you have to do is figure out how to promote the product.

Even product owners themselves become affiliates for other marketers. They choose items that complement their products and increase their income by showing their customers an offer that enhances their experience.

Affiliates receive a commission, but that number isn’t always the same. A $47 eBook that you promote as an affiliate may offer a 50-75% commission on the sale. If it’s a lower price point, the percentage may be higher. If the commission per sale is too low, affiliates won’t promote it.

But higher price points often result in lower percentage commission because the payoff is still great. A course selling for $1,500 may only pay off at 10% – but it’s still appealing because you’re getting $150 per sale.

What Is An Affiliate Marketplace?

Many affiliate programs are through third-party sites. These are called marketplaces. There are many marketplaces, but you have to sign up for those that offer the product you want to promote. A marketplace can have many vendors. Often you must be approved first by the marketplace, then by each vendor you what to promote.

Some affiliate programs are handled directly by the product owner, a company, or an individual. They make software anyone can buy that gives people complete control over their affiliate program. They have to pay for the software, but they don’t have to pay a percentage to the marketplace each time they get a sale.

All affiliate programs have requirements to get the money you’ve earned. Often there is a minimum payout threshold. Example: They may require you to accumulate a dollar amount of $100.00 in commissions before they pay. You may have to wait a specified time after the sale.

Important: Before You Start Promoting Your Affiliate Link

When you are an affiliate you have to follow the rules. If you don’t know if a method of advertising is acceptable ask before moving forward. Affiliates might have a website, use social media, newsletters, or even Google Adwords to name a few.

I can’t emphasize this enough, know the rules and follow the rules. You might get away with something for a while but you risk being removed from the affiliate program. Just don’t grab your affiliate link and go. Read the rules and avoid any restrictions.

I often see restrictions on keywords used in Google Adwords campaigns. Product and services providers often reserve brand-specific and related keywords for their own use. It just means you have to be more creative.
