Episode 45

All Science of Breath Episodes

The concept of society is based on rules and agreements. The authorities constantly program the people with ideas that they can either accept or reject. Acceptance breeds inclusion and greater degrees of comfort if you will. Rejection, on the other hand, is basically tantamount to declaring all out warfare on the system. When the rules of society are not obeyed, we have police and the legal system which are supposed to deal with the corruption.

However, what happens when the authorities themselves make a mistake in perpetuating their precious societal mores? How do the people governed by, and accepting of these laws react when they are attacked by the very same authorities that are supposed to protect them? These are the questions that surround the Oscar Grant verdict coming up this week.

The anticipation hangs in the air, thick that the rapture of swollen vines. Windows are already boarded up here in the studio and throughout downtown Oakland in case rioters take to the streets. There have been whispers that OPD is calling in back up from as far south as LA, in addition to many of the surrounding suburbs in the Bay. It feels as if everyone is expecting the worst reaction possible.

Do they know something that we don’t? If justice is truly served, and Johanne Meserhle, the murderer of Oscar Grant is convicted, than there is no reason to protest. Oscar’s life can never be given back, but a ruling of manslaughter would at least acknowledge some degree of negligence. I am concerned that Meserhle is acquitted. In that case, there is definite reason to be angered. We were angry already, but this is the stuff that destruction is made off.

I wonder if this had been a young white man shot face down on the Bart in San Francisco would it even be a question as to the guilt of the murderer. No, what is being called into question is the value of black life in American society. How easy is it to kill a young black man in cold blood, and without reason? It seems that they are telling us what they think of us with every deliberation and negation of justice that takes place. I understand the rage, but please, breaking the windows of small shop owners downtown will not do anything to bring redemption. Calm and cool minds will prevail.

Tune in to this week’s show as special guest J Period, Robert Collins, Amp Live, and 1-O.A.K. discuss the importance of how we handle the verdict.

Adobe Flash Player is not installed.
Episode 44 "The Game of Life"

All Science Of Breath Episodes

I once read somewhere that sports were a metaphor, of war. If so, then we are living in violatile times, although the World Cup, is more of a grand spectacle. Being that, the whole world is involved, the political and social ramifications of the "football" can hardly be denied. Honestly, I haven't been interested in "football" since I was a youth. But since the World Cup in '06, I've been riveted by the collective attention which it demands. In many ways, it's bigger than the Olympics. There is much greater parity, which makes the competition all the more thrilling. Although juggernauts like Brazil and Argentina feel pre-destined to dominate, smaller countries like Uruguay, Switzerland, Ghana, and the Netherlands are able to eek their way onto the world stage. It is truly fascinating when we consider how many eyes and minds are focused on this one event.
What could we accomplish as human beings if we all got together and focused on ending poverty and oppression in the same way, and with the same passion that we view sports? I think we could truly change the world. Just a thought. Science of Breath...on the move.

LISTEN:

DOWNLOAD: Science Of Breath: Episode 44

PLAYLIST:

1.
Episode 43

All Science Of Breath Episodes

Whoa! World spin..begin..faster..FASTER! That's how I feel y'all. I know..intense right? Indeed. No worries..we'll be good. I just got to let it out every now and then. There seems to be so much going on these days. At the tip of my mind remains the tragedy of the BP spill. What have we done? I have a distinct feeling that we'll be dealing with the aftermath of this for the remainder of our lives. I read something that said that the leak was spilling over 2 million gallons a day!! What? That is completely impossible to fathom in many ways, but it sounds like its easily the worst environmental disaster in history. How will the ocean be effected by such negligence? It's scary to contemplate the ramifications. Still, we keep on pushin' thru. I pray for the good of all people, that we may learn from this. We cannot continue to repeat this type of behavior, the Earth will not allow it. Remember, we are blessed to have this environment which is perfectly suited to our beingness. Pray for healing..pray for peace. Bless...

Listen:

Download: Science Of Breath Radio: Episodes 43

PLAYLIST:

PLAYLIST:

Me Or The Papes (LP Instrumental)-Jeru The Damaja
Biz Markie – Just A Friend
Caught Up-Metro Area
Love Junkie (Remix) f.
Episode 41: By the Time I Get to Arizona

All Science Of Breath Episodes

For the most part, I enjoy living in the United States. I mean, let's face it, I was born here. But every now and then, the ugly side of America is forced to reveal itself and I shutter at the lack of understanding that is ever present here.

An example of this is the immigration issue conjured up by the lonely state of Arizona. In response to the "border" issue faced by the US, Arizona has taken it upon itself to enforce a law that harkens back to the days of apartheid in South Africa. Legislation has made it so the police can detain anyone who they suspect of being an illegal citizen. Bear in mind that latinos comprise over 30% of Arizona’s population, and that's if you trust the skewed perspectives of the US Census. In my opinion, there is a higher number of latinos than that. Yet, the fear is that latinos will slowly overtake the number of whites in Arizona, and later in the United States. Why is this a fear? I suppose it has to do with power and control.

However, this is the United States. Our motto is that we are a melting pot of cultures, blended together to create a beautiful rainbow of humanity. But, the reality in this moment, is that Arizona is struggling with it's true identity. On a greater scale, the state could simply be a symbol of our growing pains as a country and as a world. I feel sorry for all you rednecks, conservatives and tea-baggers. In the immortal words of Nas, "America is browning". Better get your suntan lotion, and get comfortable with brown skin. In this episode, Vinroc and I chop it up on what it all means. Enjoy… - ZUMBI

LISTEN:

DOWNLOAD: Science of Breath: Episode 41: By the Time I Get to Arizona

PLAYLIST:

JustBegun Talib Kweli & Hi tek

Real Talk (featuring Ladybug Mecca) Encore

Real Talk (featuring Ladybug Mecca) Encore

Ask About Me f.
Epsiode 40: Respect to Malcolm X

All Science Of Breath Episodes

In respect of our great ancestor El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, (better known as Malcolm X) I dedicate this show to the incredible work that he did in order to uplift our people. Davey D blasted out a great tidbit on his twitter yesterday. This is vintage audio of 2 FBI agents actively trying to coerce Malcolm into snitching on his own organization, the Black Muslims. With rare eloquence and resilience, we hear how Malcolm cleverly rebukes their feeble attempts. It is one of the best old school audio gems that I’ve heard in ages. To hear him break down the fidgety embargoes of the agents is priceless. Yet, this was recorded in 1963. The brother was assassinated a short 2 years later in 1965. It seems that the government tried one approach, and once they saw that it wasn’t working, they went to their old faithful. Straight up murder. Go figure. All praises to the brother. They killed his body, but they couldn’t end his legacy. Science of Breath on the move!

LISTEN:

DOWNLOAD: Science of Breath- Episode 40: Respect to Malcolm X

PLAYLIST:

1. Let the heads roll. It is better for us, the artists, this way. Why you ask, as you shake your head and roll your eyes? There is less control of the “system” now, then ever before. No longer do major labels hold complete sway over the marketplace. I am not a fool, I recognize the great influence that labels still have on the mass consciousness of the people. Yet, at the same time, I feel that independent musicians, filmmakers, and authors have opportunities today, that simply didn’t exist 10 years ago.

There is enough technology available that anyone can damn near craft a record and release it. This is a beautiful thing. Artistic expression is at an all time high. The only thing that can hold you back in this moment is you. If you want it, the world awaits your passion to possess their attention. What will you say when you finally have the blogosphere at your beck and call? The only limit is your creativity. This is your time. To quote Nas, “the world is yours, the world is yours”. The independent route of releasing your own music is not an easy one, but it is a liberating one. Be free of the machine, express your inner soul, and ride the current of wild creativity that pulses within your heart. Do not hold back, and do not be scared. Instead, practice fearlessness. May the force be with you. Churrrch…

PLAYLIST:

1. With it's raw beauty and ancient culture, it is hard to find anything in the West that compares to it's natural elegance. We were blessed to be able to spend last week there, both working and chilling. The first half of the trip was spent on Maui, deep within the Grouch's rain forest hideout studio. Complete with hordes of geckos, mosquitoes, flying roaches, and cane spiders (which are the size of a large man's hand..), we sunk into the landscape and fed off of the simplicity and silence which was ever present. We were able to really sit down and concentrate on the new Zion I & the Grouch album. It felt good to be in that creative space where time feels like it's standing still. The cellphone felt obsolete, the TV was nonexistent. I believe that this is the best way to connect with the inner voice and create true art. We freaked about 5 songs in two days. I can't wait for y'all to hear the gumbo that we've been cooking up. The album is roughly slated for release in February of 2011.

The second half of the trip was spent in Oahu. Compared to Maui, Oahu felt like New York.

Maui is so stripped down and simple. It feels like only Earth, Sky, and Ocean exist there. While, in Honolulu, I was transported right back to downtown SF with a quickness. We rocked a show out there at the Next Door which went off. After that, it was time to chill. After sleeping the entire next day away, I was finally prepared for some adventure the following day. I was rewarded with a dope trip to a secluded, almost private beach on Oahu's gold coast. Next, my highest wish was granted, when our homey Chris said that he would take us surfing.

We hit the surf with a fury, as I struggled to keep up with my guide's staggering pace. He leapt up on wave after wave, and I guess he must of inspired me, because I had the best day I've ever had of surfing. Pretty soon, however, my arms started to go limp from all of the paddling. I was getting worn out. I missed three good waves in a row after paddling with whatever was left over of my strength. Consequently, I found myself washed out into a lonesome patch of ocean. There were no other surfers in the immediate vicinity, so I took the opportunity to just kick it, and enjoy being in the water. Suddenly, I saw a long patch of olive gray skin rise out of the ocean. What the hell is that? I tried to calm myself down by telling myself it was a seal. Right? I waited with bated breath as the swollen mass sunk down into the deep blue. When it re-emerged, a beak like face jutted out of the rippling surface, and slowly a turtles head began bobbing up and down whimsically. A giant sea turtle! I was stunned, both terrified and excited at the same time. I had never encountered such a large creature so close to me in the ocean and admittedly, I was shook. I pulled my legs out of the water and onto the board, and just sat there watching the turtle go up and down for air. At first, I wanted to shout out a warning, but my mind consoled me that turtles were not known to be dangerous, it wasn't a shark after all. The deep orbital eyes gazed at me, almost as if laughing at the uncomfortable way I was now sitting on the board. I almost laughed at myself. Yet, I continued to stare at the peaceful being for about 5 minutes. I began to feel as if I was having some type of spiritual communion, with the mix of fear, revelry, and adrenaline all going off at once. Slowly, I relaxed out of my trance as I realized that time was going by and I was not catching any waves. I slowly turned around and paddled away. It was time to return to the shore. I had gotten everything that I needed out of the experience. The next thing I knew, I nice wave was upon me. I paddled hard and caught the best ride of the day, almost all the way in to the shore. Mission accomplished. From this point on, I will feel a special connection with the giant sea turtle. It felt as though an old friend had come to say what up. What a wonderful memory. We're out here recording music for the new Zion I & the Grouch album, which will be out in February. It's always interesting to travel and then record in a new locale, because the new location inevitably brings about new feelings and expressions. Add that to the fact that we were on Maui for most of our stay, which is extremely chill compared to the hustle mode of the Bay. I've been having a grand ol' time of getting acquainted with nature, and having the chance to listen to my thoughts without outside interruption. Needless to say, it's been a much needed respite.
This week, I had to dedicate half of the show to Guru of Gang Starr, who finally succumbed to what they are calling cancer last week. Unfortunately, the drama has yet to cease, as his "partner" (?), Solar produced a scathing letter supposedly written by Guru on his deathbed which basically dissed DJ Premier and completely downplayed the Gang Starr legacy. It feels like this guy Solar wrote the letter, which is wack as hell. Why would anyone do such a thing? Weird. To add to that, Sway interviewed him and questioned him about the whole situation with Guru, and Solar came off very defensive and nervous. The dude just seems like he's lying. Why, I don't know. It's sad that such a legend had to leave with an ackward departure. Regardless, of his attempts, Solar could never throw shade on the Gang Starr name. R.I.P.
Episode #35

All Science Of Breath Episodes

Big up all massive and crew! Thank you for tuning in for another week of exciting new styles from across the world. This week, I'm broadcasting from sunny Los Angeles, CA. We had a show at UCLA last night at the annual event, the Mighty Mic. Each year, they throw a well organized concert in order to bring awareness to injustice in any form. This year was focused on the Congo, and how the country has been destabilized since the mid 90's. One startling fact is that nearly 6 million have died in the country since '98, but yet, the western media is not even willing to sneeze about the tragedy which is occurring there. Congo is rich in many minerals which provide the basis for electronics and technology. If these resources suddenly begin to dry up, we'll probably start hearing the Congo referenced on the news. But in the now, know that our brothers and sisters across the water need help. The show was dope last night, except for the fact that I busted my lip on the mic whilst leaping around. Definitely not an enjoyable experience, while broadcasting I was alternating between icing my golfball lip, and selecting the tunage. All to the good...enjoy..tune in..and tune up!

LISTEN:

DOWNLOAD: Science Of Breath: Episode #35

Playlist:

1.#9-Lee Bannon
2. Mostly, about what I need to do, that I very much dislike doing. Should I even breath the word? Here we go..Taxes. Blah. Every year I have to pick through piles and piles of white receipts, in search of profit and loss. It's one of the joys of being a business owner. So I'm thinking that today's show is going to give me the energy I'll need for the next couple days to knock this out. I found a nice lil gem by Gil Scott Heron ft Nas. The OG has been one of my favorites since back in the day, with his angst filled croonage. If you don't know, and you're into soul music, google him. Also, stumbled on to some classic club music, as delivered by Pandora.com. I love this website because it's such a good place to learn about new music. They have some technology that groups songs and artists according to varied styles and emphasis. Very dope.

ALL Science Of Breath Episodes

With all the changes currently sweeping the planet, it's of utmost importance to embrace the concept of change. It has been said that change is the only constant, and I believe that this is true. Every once in a while, a courageous soul stands up to embody the new idea. In 2010, this person is Erykah Badu.

With an already illustrious career behind her, she has pushed the envelope of artistry with her latest video "Window Seat". In it, she gets out of a car and walks to the spot where JFK was assassinated, all while undressing herself. At the end of the video, she lies naked after being shot with the words "Groupthink" spilling from her prone body. In my mind, this is the ultimate collaboration of art and activism. The message which she sends forth is an edgy one, that I fear many will miss. She is questioning conformity, and society's norms, by literally stripping herself of all pretense.

The Dallas PD is currently questioning whether to pull up charges against her. Another woman has stated that she will sue Ms. Badu. It is my opinion that change is hard for many of us, and that the backlash she faces, symbolizes the natural resistance that human beings have to change. Erykah, I am writing this to let you know that we stand with you, and we face the winds of change together. Peace..

- Zumbi

LISTEN:

DOWNLOAD: Science Of Breath: Episode 33 "In Honor of Erykah Badu"

PLAYLIST:

1. I’m dropping this one from a hotel in the higher heights of Whistler, Canada’s snow flecked mountaintops. I was really enjoying being home, but yes indeed, I’m right back out on the road. There are pros and cons to everything in the universe. This is the subtle balance often referred to as the yin and the yang. There is definitely a rare beauty in being able to travel the world performing music and rocking crowds. Yet, it does not come without struggle, hard work, lack of sleep, and countless hours driving into distant towns, cities, and villages. Let me not wax too philosophically though, this tour seems like it’s going to be fun. I really enjoy Canada, especially Vancouver. The layout is reminiscent of San Fran, but the architecture feels more edgily modern, and the ever-present mountain range sets it distinctly apart. I was feeling easy doing this set, and the music reflects that. I drop some reflective hip-hop tunes, alongside some soul music I’m feeling, and towards the end gallop into some progressive house. You know my steez!!! Yet, when I asked if he had any ideas, he replied quickly with "Let's talk about the water problem which is facing the world right now." Water problem? Do you mean the California drought? Hardly. The problem of drinkable water, is being discussed as one of the most foreboding dilemmas that will soon plague humanity. No, this is not a doom and gloom show, it's all about communicating information and raising awareness. In many 3rd world countries this problem is already being felt. We in the "1st world", are kept ignorant to the cold reality of private corporations attempting to takeover the water supply, and sell it back to us in bottled form at a higher price. It's pure insanity, and the systematic corporate greed which endeavors this type of philosophy is unsustainable. Vinroc and I discuss different ways that people can inform themselves and spread the word about this insidious trend. Tune in and UP!

Episode 30 "Gang Star Edition"

All Science of Breath Episodes

There are some musical legends that are of monumental influence, yet still manage to fly under the radar of commercial popularity. Throughout the late 80’s and 90’s Gang Starr was a staple of Hip Hop culture. With Guru on the mic, and DJ Premier commanding the boards like a titan, the crew blazed trails of authentic street music for over 15 years. Yet, somehow in this day and age , they are often left out of conversations regarding Hip Hop’s illest crews. In my humble opinion, anyone who doesn’t recognize Gang Starr is not a true head.
Last weekend, Guru had a cardiac arrest and as a result fell into a coma. Twitter lit up almost instantaneously with updates and prayers for the suffering legend. Many of us began dropping quotes, song titles, and other Gang Starr trivia as a way to remind ourselves of the crew’s true greatness. It felt good. I hadn’t thought about some of these songs for over 10 years. It was then that I decided to dedicate the show to the crew, in the hope that the positive energy would aid in Guru’s recovery. Indeed, prayer is powerful and thoughts are things. This is a quick overview of one of the most prodigious groups that Hip Hop has ever known. Sit back, burn one and enjoy…Gang Starr y’all. The Real.
Episode 29

All Science of Breath Episodes

Oh the joys of traveling. I speak of incredibly long drives, occasionally terrible food, and the inspiration of finding new locales that feel like home. In this case, on this tour, I’ve been most impressed by New Orleans. Out of the 28 cities that we’ve passed thru, the jewel by the bayou is the one that has really stood out for me. This was my first visit back since Katrina, and I was more fascinated than surprised by what I encountered. Bourbon Street was still the same, drunken revelry at every turn. Yet, it seemed like the rest of the city was under reconstruction. There are vacant buildings and for sale signs everywhere, and the inevitable decay of the 18th French architecture is prevalent. At the same time, people bustle to and fro, intoxicated by the fragrant aroma of the New Orleans lifestyle. Being one of the oldest cities in the US, it is apparent that the roots run deep. It stands alone as a symbol of the trials and tribulations of African Americans, and the history of the states in general. I could feel the presence of the Spanish and French colonizers there. Although, I’m sure it will never be the same as it was before Katrina, there are still horn lines and delightful cuisine in the hearts of those strong enough to persist on thru the hard times. Hats off to the people of the New Orleans.

For the record, I’m glad the Saints won, they deserved that, at the very least.

                                    - Zumbi

LISTEN:

DOWNLOAD: Science Of Breath - Episode 29

PLAYLIST:
1. Barely got this show together...but the music gods were looking out for ya boy. I'm coming in live from the backstage of a club in Tampa, Florida, with subs and bass kicks raging in the background. Hey, we do the best we can with what we have. This week features a gang of rare gems from across the boom diaspora of music, specifically the legendary crew Massive Attack. Starting back in the late 80's, this crew has defied musical categories, and instead have pushed the limits of varied genres and styles. The remixes on the show are melodic dub landscapes sprinkled with lush vocals, their classic trademark. Many of these jams are brand spanking new, having just been discovered thru in-depth bloggery. Enjoy family...more to come. Stay tuned.

All Science Of Breath Episodes

Respect all massive and crew! I’m doin’ it movin, literally this week , as I broadcast straight from the van heading south towards NYC. There is something acutely surreal about touring and recording at the same time. While cars and trucks rush by, I capture bits and pieces of reality as they whirl past. It’s almost as if it’s a metaphor for the constant gush of information in this day and age. With so much media available, how does one sift thru and pick what they want to allow into their range of perception? For some, it is a choice, for others it is simply succumbing to the incessant barrage of programming shoved down our throats. As for myself, I have chosen to be quite snobby about what I allow into my mind, conscious and otherwise. I realize that whatever the mind views, it perceives as reality. That includes commercials, horror movies, reality shows, whatever he receives. This is exactly the same reason why the imagination is so powerful. If you can imagine something over and over again in your mind, you begin to charge your behavior with that imagery, and draw it closer to yourself subconsciously. With that said, strive to be aware of what types of energy that you allow into your mind. Ask yourself if this is the type of thing you want to experience. Don’t be passive, make an active choice about the energy that is created in and thru you. Shouts out to J Dilla (February 7, 1974 – February 10, 2006) & Bob Marley (February 6, 1945 – May 11, 1981). I am currently mobbin' in a van en route to the House of Blues in Chicago. This is definitely a labor of love...and love rules all..so we're good! We still have a little over a month left, and we're in the thick of things. I've been trying to sleep as much as I can in the van, as we get to the hotel late, and leave very early every morning. The shows have continued to be packed and the energy high. I'm taking ginseng and echinacea to keep up the pace. This week's show features some new joints that I discovered thru persistent bloggery. There is some new Kid Cudi, Erykah Baduk and B.O.B. Music is so exciting these days because there is such a diverse plethora to choose from. You know how we do at the Science of Breath, I can't just stick to one style family, this is a sound tribe universal. Wow…this tour has been cracking the whole time. Literally, we’ve had 13 shows and only one hasn’t sold out. Niceness. I’ve always been about message music, but seeing the effect that this tour is having on people has helped me to further realize the true strength of good music. People have been leaving every night feeling uplifted and stronger than when the first came in. It’s a blessing to be able to touch people’s lives this way. With so much turmoil in the world, it’s amazing how much effect something simple like a song can have on one’s psyche. Music has always been my chosen mode of medication. I used to play certain songs to hype me up to play hoop or soccer, and I’d play other joints to soothe the pain of an argument with my girl. It’s all encompassing, universal, and addictive. Give thanks for the power of vibration, for through it, we are all created. Be aware of the vibrations you create, for they will echo back to you eventually. Enjoy the show…spread love.
Playlist:
1. Today’s show is focused on reggae music. Since we’re currently on tour with ragga champions Rebelution & Soja, I was in the mood to honor the vibes. I didn’t get a chance to upload their music yet, but that’s coming very soon. The tour has been incredible thus far. Every show has been sold out thus far, 8 in a row. This is definitely the largest tour that we’ve ever been on. Give thanks! With so much chaos in the world, it feels good to be around some calming, introspective musicians and music. Each night the vibe is extraordinarily mellow and chill. Niceness. Thus, I wanted to share some of that laid back cool with y’all. So, sit back and be easy, this one is for the mind. This week has been filled with tragedy: as Haiti was hit with a devastating earthquake, our beloved brother, Dewey Tucker, was shot on highway 80, and Teddy Pendergrass passed over. There's a lot going on in the energy right now, it feels very intense. To begin, Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere was at the epicenter of a huge earthquake which has brought the entire populace to it's knees. With overwhelming poverty, and little infrastructure this is shaping up to be a catastrophe. When looking at the clips, I can't help but think of Hurricane Katrina. It feels almost biblical in a way, in witnessing such mass destruction and countless black folks displaced. I am glad that Obama has responded quickly, unlike Bush, and many people have jumped to aid the situation. I am in constant prayer for the swift deliverance of the Haitian people.
I knew Dewey Tucker thru the Kev Choice Ensemble, as I have played with him a couple times, and have seen them perform on various occassions. I did not know him personally, but he was always smiling and in the pocket with his groove. Details as to his death have been cloudy at best, and all I know is that he was found slumped over in his car. It is a shame that such a good brother had to leave so early. I send my prayers out to his family and loved ones.
Finally, the legendary Teddy Pendergrass passed away last night. His booming voice and provocative lyrics will be missed. I didn't know that he was only 59 years young. My prayers also go out to him. With all of this transition, I hope that we are all more aware of the precious nature of each and every moment that we are blessed to experience life. Shorty the Pimp said it best "Life is too short". One love to y'all, live in the moment, be as One.

Playlist:
1. Resident DJ Vinroc mans the decks, and also manages to coin the term “20-10’n”. Wow. I’m not sure how long it’s going to last, but it fits for the moment. At the beginning of the year, I feel that it’s a good idea to stay committed to whatever resolutions made, but more importantly to simply be focused on the goals at hand. Word. We also get into the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fiasco. This has got to be one of the most disappointing sports events to not happen in modern history. With so much hype, how did the fight of the century fail to go off? Join us as we discuss these topics and more, plus lay into some dope music.
Episode 21 "New Years"

I can hardly believe 2009 is over?? This year went by so incredibly fast, it felt like a flash before my eyes. We dropped “the Takeover”, and after that the year seemed to disappear. I love New Year’s because it allows us the opportunity to let go of the old, and subsequently make room for the newness of our lives. We can all work harder and become better at something in life, the New Year gives us yet another chance to embrace that goodness and improve ourselves. Some folks look at it like it’s just the biggest party day of the year. I personally view it as a time of immense personal transformation. I’ve spent New Years Eve in so many different ways. I’ve been out at the club, I’ve performed (which has been the normal thing the last couple years), I’ve sat at the crib, I’ve thrown my own parties. It goes down. More importantly, just go with your gut, and do what feels natural for you. Give thanks yall, be safe out there, and remember, whatever you’re doing on New Years Eve, you’re going to be doing the rest of year. Bless!!

Playlist:
1.	Shouts- J Dilla
2.	Just Begun- Reflection Eternal ft Jay Electronica
3. Merry Xmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanzaa! I pray y’all are surrounded by family or loved ones at this time. Although I love the holiday season, I also realize that we are celebrating the remnants of ancient rituals from “pagan” societies. Knowing this, I accept Christmas as a time to reconnect with family and friends, but its not religious for me. Yet, it is still spiritual, because it’s all about giving thanks and showing gratitude for all the great blessings in our lives.
“Many of our modern Christmas traditions began hundreds of years before Christ was born. Some of these traditions date back more than 4000 years. The addition of Christ to the celebration of the winter solstice did not occur until 300 years after Christ died and as late as 1800, some devout Christian sects, like the Puritans, forbade their members from celebrating Christmas because it was considered a pagan holiday.
Even the date of Christmas, December 25, was borrowed from another religion. At the time Christmas was created in AD 320, Mithraism was very popular. The early Christian church had gotten tired of their futile efforts to stop people celebrating the solstice and the birthday of Mithras, the Persian sun god. Mithras’ birthday was December 25. So the pope at the time decided to make Jesus’ official birthday coincide with Mithras’ birthday. No one knows what time of year Jesus was actually born but there is evidence to suggest that it was in midsummer.”
With that said, enjoy your holidays and always remember to Spread Love!! Merry Xmas from your Science of Breath family!!

Tracklist:

1.	Skating- Vince Guaraldi
2.	Christmas Rappin- Kurtis Blow
3. The planets must be aligned, because the synchronicity here is incredible. If you’ve tuned in to previous shows with Vin & I, you know that we like to reason about pertinent topics affecting the community and world. On this show, we delve in to some recent wayward activity that has been going on at the junior high and high school levels in the Bay Area. What’s going on with the youth? Are we not sowing the proper seeds of leadership for them to grow strong? Honestly, I feel like society is leaving them hanging. Here, we pump them full of violent, and highly sexualized content thru Hollywood, TV, and radio. Then, we sit back and collect the profits, without ever considering exactly what effects this type of programming has upon their developing minds. It’s quite infantile in my humble opinion. Yet in still, this is the world and country in which we live. We can all do a better job. Each one, teach one. Tune in to the “Science of Breath”…chuuurch.

Playlist:
1. Lost One- Jay Z ft Chrissette Michele
2. This week we feature world famous resident DJ Vinroc. He called me last minute and said he had time this week to bless the show, so he graces the tables for a majority of the show. However, I do slip in a quick 15 minute set while he tutors me, and tightens up my technique. Hey, that’s what friends are for. We get to choppin’ it up, as we always do, and we discuss the whole concept of “Climate-Gate” and the implications it has on the planet, and we, its humble citizens. My concern is whether or not we can actually trust the “powers that be” to tell us the truth about the Earth’s changing currents. Is this all propaganda? Are they even telling the truth? These are important questions that we must ask as we move forward thru the myriad of problems we face as denizens of the Earth. Prince Paul’s production seems to fit the rappin’ lovely. His melodic and moody soundscapes float in and out of the varied phrasing of the 4 MC’s. Is that the right holiday? Uh…
No, but fa real, I pray all of you is able to spend time with your family and/or loved ones on this day. That’s all it really ever meant to me at least. I’m n”ot so into the traditional notion of pilgrims and colonization ya dig. In fact, I went to the “Thanks-taking” ceremony one year, and found that to be the truest expression of how this day feels. “Thanks-taking” is a counter celebration led by the Natives of the bay area that proclaim Alcatraz as sacred land. It is an insistent reminder of the brutal history of this heralded day. I take it as a genuine opportunity to chill with my folks, but I also remember the ancestors who are no longer present because of this holiday. All in all, remember to give thanks, truly , for this moment that we have in time together. Ites…
1.	My Room is White Remix-Flying Lotus
2.

Maximum respect to all massive & crew! Give thanks for tunin' in and staying present in this moment. The film "2012" was released this week to much herald and applause, as was expected. I haven't seen it yet, but from what I hear, its like every other blockbuster disaster film times 10. That said, its not really my cup of tea. However, I've been vibing off of the whole "2012" phenomena for a long time. It is my understanding that this time period is an opportunity for humanity to evolve into a higher way of being. Whether that means working with one another, the environment, or other beings on a elevated level, I'm not sure. But, all the hoopla led me to the concept of the hero. What is a hero? It is one who accepts the challenges of their current state, and refuses to be defined by anything outside of their own will. In this way, we are all heroes. As we get closer to "2012", hopefully we can collectively channel the hero essence into changing this world in a positive way. Enjoy!
1. As I was going thru my hard drive I was drawn to many of the OG classics that really stuck with me throughout time. A good song is always more than a catchy hook, or beat, there’s something more to it that seems to define or describe an aspect of life in that particular moment. Many of the songs on this playlist have had that effect on me. Enjoy the vibes, relax, put one in the air..and reminisce.

Yup, we’re still on tour, feels like I’ve been gone for 3 months, but its actually more like one. This week I’m featuring a new joint I just leaked to the net called “Infinite”. It’s the first leak off the new Zumbi mixtape “the Science of Breath Vol 4”. The homey Lee Bannon produced it, and it slumps most definitely. He’s a young producer out of Sac who’s been getting it in, google the name for some newness. I actually recorded this session in a coffee shop across the street from the Aggie Theatre, where we’re about to rock.
