Location and Date: Bowling Green Country Club, Front Royal, VA | November 2011

The Details: Brian and Laurie are a fun couple to be around, as was evident when I did their engagement session. Therefore it was fitting that their wedding had a unique theme to it … Alice in Wonderland! Featuring “eat me / drink me” party favors, tea cups, pocket watches and black / red decorations, the only thing missing was a real-life white rabbit. The theme really gave the wedding a fun and relaxed feeling, and a great time was had by all.

Location and Date: Great Falls Park, McLean, VA | November 2011

The Details: Nick and Liz picked Great Falls Park for their engagement session location since that is where Nick popped the question. I had never been to the park prior to this photo shoot, and was pleasantly surprised that such a beautiful park was tucked within the busy town of McLean. The waterfalls are the main feature of the park (hence its name), however there were plenty of other natural settings perfect for taking some romantic and fun pictures. Oh, and to explain the last two photos…Liz is always making Nick “pinky swear”, so we had to get a photo of that!

Location and Date: Bluemont Vineyard in Bluemont, VA | October 2011

The Details: I will never, ever forget George and Alaina. As of the writing of this post, they are the only couple to ever offer me a few shotgun rounds during a skeet shooting session as part of their engagement session. While their engagement session was a great time, their wedding was an awesome time. With a fall and hunting motif carried throughout (keep an eye out for the cake topper and camouflaged groom), their wedding perfectly captured who they are as great, fun and outdoors-loving people!

Location and Date: The Home of Ben and Laura | Charles Town, WV

The Details: Julie, one of my wedding clients, gave the gift of a portrait photography session to her maid of honor Laura, who also happens to be married to Ben, Julie’s brother-in law. I met Laura during Julie’s September wedding and she told me then that she was very excited for her portrait session. We were able to set up a date in October for me to visit their lovely farm home for some wonderful portrait photo-taking.

Location and Date: A Family Farm in Cross Junction, VA | October 2011

The Details: Cornfields. Hay bales. Old buildings. Wooden Structures. These are all physical characteristics that make farm properties my favorite locations to hold engagement sessions. During the fall, the colors of the autumn season only serve to enhance the rural and rustic feel of the farmland. Rob and Mackenzie are fortunate to know family who has access to some very large farmland in Cross Junction, VA so we took advantage of this for their engagement session.

Location and Date: The Purple Iris, Martinsburg, WV | October 2011

The Details: Mark and Shannon’s October wedding was very memorable for me. Held at one of my favorite local venues (The Purple Iris) during one of my favorite months, their wedding featured a notable first for me: my first wedding to feature a horse-drawn carriage (provided by Country Roads Carriage Service). For those couples getting married that love horses or animals in general, I would definitely recommend this as a feature for your wedding. It provided a nice unique touch to an already magical autumn afternoon.

Location and Date: Shenandoah National Park’s Skyline Drive – Front Royal, VA | October 2011

The Details: I love Shenandoah National Park. LOVE. You cannot go wrong taking photographs there. I am an annual pass holder and take my family there whenever I get a chance for some hiking and photographic excursions. When my couples suggest they would like to do their engagement session there, I am always thrilled. Shane and Amanda had never been to the park, so taking in the great scenery during the e-session was very enjoyable for them.
