Why do we always want a silver bullet or a magic formula for everything? Is it because we’re lazy? Do we simply want to find the easiest way to reach our goals?

Maybe it’s because we want to check things off our lists so we can move on to the next item. When it comes to our finances, most of us (myself included), want to turn things around overnight and move on.

Unfortunately it’s not that simple.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a silver bullet for our finances?

What if I told you there actually is one when it comes to handling your money, but it may not be what you think.

No, I’m not talking about winning the lottery, or debt consolidation or some magic potion that wipes out your credit cards and max funds a Roth IRA for you.

So what is it?
The ONE thing you must do to reach your financial goals, the silver bullet for personal finance is this:

Spend less than you make!

WAIT! Before you say, ”That was a letdown. Of course we have to spend less than we make, I’m not stupid” continue reading…

You’re right! It is simple and no you are not stupid. But you have to admit, we are prone to ignoring the simple things because we think we’ve mastered them.

I am constantly amazed at the sheer number of people I run into and talk with that have no idea how much they spend on a monthly basis. Some can’t even tell you what their take home pay is. They usually speak in general numbers and broad strokes.

There’s a great story about Vince Lombardi, the legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers, who being frustrated with his team’s performance said as he picked up the pigskin, ”Gentleman, THIS is a football”. He went on to talk about the basics – blocking, tackling, and sacrifice.

Back to the Basics
There’s a great lesson to be learned with our money. Once in a while we need to pause, look at our situation and go back to the basics to see how we’re doing.

The fundamentals like ”spend less than you make” aren’t so basic that we never look at them again. It’s easy to get off course and we need to recalibrate.

It doesn’t matter how much you make, if you spend more than that you will be headed for financial disaster.

This is happening to someone I know who makes more than some of us could imagine making in several years, and each time I talk to him I remind him he’s got to start spending less than he makes, and he inevitably reminds me of this basic principle.

Spend Less or Earn More
Some of you may say well I’ll just earn more than I spend. That’s fine. I encourage you to do that. But that isn’t always easy to do. Getting spending under control requires more sacrifice, discipline and self control.

Get your expenses in order AND increase your income and you’ll be even better off.

Simple But Not Easy
Unfortunately, the silver bullet for finances is very simple, but it’s not easy. It still takes time. It still requires effort. And it still won’t happen overnight.

But I can guarantee that if you spend less than you make and start planting seeds of saving and giving, it won’t take long to start seeing the fruit of your labor.

It’s time to get back to the basics and revisit how much you’re spending versus how much you’re making.

Think Before You Copycat
Just because we copycat something doesn't necessarily make it good... or efficient... or productive. we ASSUME that the people we are copying have the "right answer." We ASSUME that we are copying the right people!

So, you see, every now and then, we have to step back and examine our assumptions about what we are copying -- and why -- to make sure copycatting will, indeed, give us what we think it will give us.

"Why haven't we found a way to copycat creating wealth?" -- becomes painfully obvious. Most of us simply have been copycatting the wrong system. We've been copying the job track instead of the wealth creation track! Why? Because most people assume that a job is the only way to actualize their financial dreams. Perhaps they are unaware of alternatives to the job. They are not aware of a wealth-creating system they can copy. Perhaps they don't believe there are other sources of wealth. Or perhaps they don't think they are capable of creating true wealth by working outside the job routine.

Income Creation Vs. Wealth Creation
Whatever their reasons, the simple fact is that people in the job track will never create true wealth because they are copycatting an income creation system, which is based on linear growth, as opposed to a wealth creation system, which is based on leveraged growth.

People copycatting the income creation system are locked into a time-for-money trap. They trade a unit of their time for a unit of dollars. With income creation, 10 hours of work, equals 10 hours of pay. Unfortunately, most of the time, income creation is an endless treadmill. If you don't do the work, you don't get paid. If the treadmill stops, the income stops. People following the income creation system become slaves to temporary income, and they are accidents waiting to happen. If they fall victim to illness, or injury, or long layoffs, or burnout, they are income-less.

Those brave souls who have broken away from the ranks, who have realized that there are other systems out there to copycat -- wealth creating systems -- are choosing to copycat a system that allows them to leverage their time. They don't fall victim to the time-for-money trap because they do not trade time for dollars. For them, 10 hours of work means 100 hours of pay... or even 1,000 hours of pay. Moreover, their efforts create residual income. Unlike temporary income, residual income keeps earning money whether they show up to work or not!

In the degree that you change your thinking to cultivate the development of your mind the harmonies of life...your health, business and home life will become a reality.

Your outer condition, can not and will not change until you change the way that you think. For example: "You first think about the thing before you have the thing itself"; therefore, there can be no external change in your situation, circumstances or condition without an internal development----a change in your thinking. Follow these steps to achieve your goals

One of the biggest problems people face is the lack of discipline—they have goals or habits they want to achieve, but lack that discipline needed to stick with it. Then we beat ourselves up about it. We feel bad because we can’t stick with it. And that leads to more failure, because we’re forming a mindset that we don’t have the necessary discipline.

Here’s what to do when you face a situation like this:

1. Forgive yourself.
You aren’t perfect. No one is. Realize that beating yourself up will only make things worse. Take a few slow, deep breaths and let it go. Forgive yourself. And move on.

2. Realize that discipline is an illusion.
While discipline is a common concept, it doesn’t actually exist. It’s not a thing you can actually do. Think about it: people say discipline is pushing yourself to do something you don’t want to do. But how do you do that? What skill is required? There isn’t a skill — it’s just forcing yourself to do something you don’t want to do. And that requires… some kind of motivation. Without motivation, you won’t be able to force yourself to do anything. So motivation is the key concept—and this is something that’s real, that you can actually learn how to do.

3. Focus on motivation.
What’s your motivation for pursuing the goal or habit? How will you sustain the motivation when you struggle? Have very strong motivations for doing something, and write them down. Commit publicly. When things get tough, remind yourself of your motivation. Focus on it. It’ll pull you along—that’s more powerful than trying to focus on the push of discipline.

4. Make it easy.
Discipline is tough because whatever the task or habit you’re trying to do is tough. Instead, make it easy. Remove barriers. Having a hard time exercising? Make it ridiculously easy, by only exercising for 5 minutes. What use is exercising for 5 minutes? You’re creating the habit, not getting yourself into shape overnight. The 5 minutes of exercise will have only a tiny impact on your health, but it makes exercise super easy. If you can do that 30 days in a row, you now have an exercise habit. Hate waking up early to go to the gym? Do it at home. Do it during lunch or after work.

5. Focus on enjoyment.
It’s hard to push yourself—to have discipline—when you hate doing something. So find something enjoyable about the activity. If you don’t look forward to exercise, find some good music, or a workout partner who you can have a nice conversation with, or a peaceful setting in nature that is just beautiful. And focus on that enjoyable aspect. Hate doing your paperwork? Find a peaceful sanctuary where you can do the paperwork and enjoy yourself. Maybe have a nice cup of tea or coffee, play some nice music. And focus on the enjoyment.

6. Repeat.
You’ll almost inevitably slip up sometime, no matter how good you are. Unfortunately, people often take this to mean they don’t have discipline, and they just beat themselves up and give up. Well, it’s just a bump in the road. Get up, dust yourself off, and get going again. Start from Step 1 and start all over.

Blogging has seen such rapid growth because people enjoy expressing their opinions and communicating with others, whilst it’s also free depending on the blogging service that is used and is straightforward to set up. Unsurprisingly businesses surveyed this blogging phenomenon and identified it as a channel which could be utilised to grow their companies. Today many of the most informative and insightful blogs are those that are updated by businesses.

A business blog has a number of benefits. Through communicating and interacting with customers it can build loyalty as well as attract new customers because it’s an excellent way to illustrate your expertise in a certain industry, thereby establishing your credibility. A new blog appears every second, with there now being tens of millions of blogs worldwide. In the UK alone there are over 700,000 blogs.

Research by Technorati revealed that 13% of blogs that they track are updated every week, and over half of new bloggers are still writing posts three months after they started. Blogging has grown so rapidly that one in every 200 web visits is now to a blog.

Whilst many blogs have a very small readership as a collective force they can have significant influence. They often amplify certain stories or messages, and occasionally uncover new stories.

For example, in July 2005 bloggers exposed Guardian trainee reporter Dilpazier Aslam’s membership of a radical and anti-Semitic Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir. Being able to tap into the power of blogs can be very beneficial, a term now named Blogvertising.

Blogvertising
Using bloggers as marketing tools is tricky because many are opposed to being used as an advertising medium. However, the growth of pay per post is threatening to change this, with companies able to submit ‘opportunities’ about which bloggers can write about for a monetary reward. This form of marketing is controversial amongst the blogging community, not least because it threatens the impartiality and credibility of blogs, but it can work very well when looking to create buzz or even for search engine optimisation.

The power of blogs can also be harnessed to seed viral videos or games as well as link building. This is an advertising channel that is likely to grow very rapidly over the next few years. Blogs are increasingly becoming more mass market and early adopters will gain invaluable insights into the emerging channel, as well as cost effective sales. It can be expected that the cost of advertising on blogs will grow rapidly as it becomes more mainstream.

In the UK, the number of blogvertising opportunities is still limited, but some of the larger players such as MSN Spaces have huge volume potential. MSN Spaces are offering untargeted text links and banners for £1 CPM and £7 CPM, respectively.

It’s estimated that around two-thirds of consumer product sales are now directly influenced by word-of-mouth but increasingly companies are realising that it’s not enough just to wait for satisfied customers to recommend your company. More so than ever ‘fuel has to be added to the flames’ and companies are utilising blogs, forums, and communities to build awareness and drive traffic to their sites.

Classified websites, despite having limited technical sophistication, have grown to become some of the most popular websites on the web. Gumtree, for example, receives tens of thousands of visitors each day, with each visitor looking for or offering a service or product.

Advertising your Business -
if you offer a service such as building services, home removals, tax services, and so on, you can post ads directly advertising your company, what you can offer, and in many cases include a link to your website. It’s free advertising and, whilst thousands of people won’t see the ad, some people will and it is often a useful way for small businesses to receive an early boost.

Advertising Individual Products -
free classified websites can be likened to eBay, just without the fees. E-commerce start ups can boost their early sales through posting ads in various categories, providing a URL containing additional information to those who reply to the ads.

Lead Generation -
posting free ads on classified websites can lead to a loss of credibility and certainly doesn’t create the best brand image. To counteract this you can use these websites as a lead generation tool, encouraging potential customers to email you through an online form, thereby only revealing your company name and website to potential customers. The best way to counteract this is to never lie and always offer very good products and services with sincerity and no hype.

The result is that browsing Internet users don’t see that it’s your company that’s advertising, only interested customers. Guerrilla Business Cards

In the early days of doing business in North America, most people thought that business cards were designed to tell people your name, address, and telephone number. In the age of the guerrilla this is no longer so.

Here are some factors to consider:
· Your business card is now a marketing piece or, at least, it should be.
· Your company slogan and your important customer benefits should also be listed. If customers need to find you, maybe a simple map should be there. Do you have a FAX, an email address, or a web site. Are they listed? ·
· Do you have an 800 number? Customers, even those living in your county, are six to seven times more likely to call you if you have a toll-free telephone number. Get it on your card!
· Have you considered a fold-over card? The front is more like a traditional card, but the inside is like a mini-brochure. Customer response to these cards is very positive. We appreciate having a complete description in one easy place.
· Make sure that we, including us mid-life plus-ers, can read your card. Keep the print large enough.
· Make your card a "keeper." That is, give some important information on the back that your customers will want to keep with them.
· Make sure there's some room to write a message if you need to. You should always write some kind of personal message even if it's only "Best Wishes!" and your first name.
Take your guerrilla business cards to the big game. When we score a home run or a touchdown, throw about twenty of them into the air as you shout "hurrah!" Big dividends will follow

Where and How to Place Your Cards
· Give them to well-dressed strangers with your compliment on their appearance.
· Put your lavish 20% tip on top of your business card whenever and wherever you tip.
· Pass them out in the elevators where everyone is a bit too close and uncomfortable.
· Staple them to a dollar and pay for that car behind you on the bridge, the turnpike, or the parking lot. The response will be terrific.
· Use your cards. Put a quarter in the meter for that BMW over there about to get a ticket. Write, "U O Me" on the back. Watch what happens.
· Spend a lot of time on your business card. Make it a guerrilla business card. Now, pass them out to everyone. They should be in your shirt pocket, in your purse, in your wallet, in your attaché case. Refill daily. Pass them out on every greeting, every introduction, every service, every meeting to everyone.

Give them out with purpose and intent. You have a serious business. It is important and it is designed to really support your customers. Do not pass them out casually, except at sport's events. Give your cards to others with two hands. Yes, hand them to others with both hands. Notice the difference it makes.

Business cards are marketing cards. Don't forget it!

The cost of advertising in one of the popular online directories, such as Yell.com or Thomson Local, varies depending on the location of the advert and the various extras, which include a link to your website, uploading a logo, and an-depth description.

As a cost estimate an advert in one of the main directories can cost anything from $150 to in excess of $1,000.

Many of the directories that are purely useful for link building purchases also charge fees, although these are significantly less. For a directory with a high PageRank you could expect to pay anything up to $30, and significantly less for directories with lower PageRanks.
