The spyware poses as an adobe flash player update and once installed logs the internet browsing activity of the user.

It is specifically crafted to monitor the Google search queries in the Fire Fox browser.

While other internet browsers have suffered from this type of spyware for many years, this is one of the first instances of the spyware in the Mozilla browser.

According to Juliette Sultan, head of global marketing at Check Point, “Home wireless networks, if not adequately secured, are extremely vulnerable to infiltration by hackers. Unlike other routers that just bundle various features, the ZoneAlarm Secure Wireless Router Z100G was designed specifically with security in mind. It employs the very same technologies that Check Point uses in its enterprise level routers, making it unlike any other consumer router on the market.”

ZoneAlarm's Unique Protection

Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, has recently announced that Check Point ZoneAlarm ForceField "provides unique protection against a recently discovered engineered attack that utilizes forged Secure Sockets Layer certificates". This particular type of attack "could be used to impersonate any secure Web site on the Internet including banking and e-commerce sites". Constant vigilance is the core of ZoneAlarm's philosophy and it is evident in the fact that it's products are "built to fight the emerging classes of browser-based attacks", and "includes additional security layers that augment its virtualization capability including heuristic anti-phishing, site rating, and keylogger jamming among other features".

ZoneAlarm Firewall The Best

It's official. The worm "doesn't spread by e-mail; instead, it tries to break into networks by guessing your password and then sending copies of itself to everyone at your business who doesn't have a patch installed to prevent the incursion". There is a patch, as well as a removal tool for the various operating systems, but the easiest and quickest way to get rid of it is still to use an anti-virus program.

No Rest For ZoneAlarm

ZoneAlarm continues to vigilantly work for you even through the new year. According to TechNewsWorld, the Mac enjoys its perceived invincibility due to the fact that "a minority operating system just isn't worth the attention of hackers -- it operates under their radar". The story then goes on to recommend antivirus programmes for Mac users, but as a precaution instead of an alarmist measure. Still it is indeed better to be safe than sorry.

The internet is truly a global phenomenon, but so

Although the internet was conceptualized by the West, its problems are not exclusive to that region. In Saudi Arabia, a man was fined SR50,000, and sentenced to “22 months in jail and 200 lashes for breaking into an e-mail account of a young woman and getting personal photos of her”. Interestingly enough, the motive for this particular act of cyber crime isn’t monetary. The man threatened to disseminate the photos of the woman (none of which were considered indecent or prurient) online, if she did not have an affair with him. It seems that personal information stolen from the internet can be used to blackmail anyone for just about anything these days. This makes financially motivated cyber crimes look like petty theft.

Value for money

Internet shopping has been somewhat of a revelation to the retail industry since its inception. No waiting in queues, no fighting off other bargain hunters, and no risk of petty theft. However, there are certain downsides to shopping on the internet. Other than the obvious one of not being able to physically look at and handle the product before purchasing, the financial and information transactions online are also susceptible to being stolen. A tactic used by perpetrators of such crimes is sending advertisements of ridiculously good deals to your email, enticing you to click on the links, downloading trojans and other nasty viruses on your computer. As much as you protect your money by purchasing products of the best value, beware of some deals which are just too good to be true.

Naughty e-cards

First, it was the threat of anthrax powder in your snail mail, now in the cyber era, it's internet viruses and worms in your email inbox. Granted the latter is nowhere near as deadly or as life threatening, but they can still cause major disruption to your daily routine. This is especially so during holiday season when cyber criminals prey on the unsuspecting by sending out malware and other naughty things under the gist of an e-card from a legitimate site. In some cases, the false e-card may even come from a known person with his or her email address book already being compromised. Be extra careful when receiving e-cards this holiday. Do not let the festive cheer blind you to such exploits.

Just how much would you sacrifice?

A press release from the Identity Theft Assistance Center asserts that cyber crime will be a major problem in 2009, and that the new incoming American administration should “work to reduce barriers to investigating and prosecuting identity theft and financial fraud”. The question here is just how much of the freedom and privacy we currently enjoy so much on the internet would we be willing to sacrifice to protect our bank accounts and cyber identities? Should something unfortunate happen, would we view it as a consequence of our right to freedom and privacy, or blame the authorities for not taking it away and preventing it from happening?

New 2009 Product Range!

We have now released the all new 2009 range of ZoneAlarm internet security products. Obviously such action can, and most usually will, expose the wifi networks to hackers or piggybacking where other braodband users connect to someone else's wireless routher to gain access to the internet.

Fraud and identity theft are two possible outcomes from the most serious aspects of wifi hacking.

ZoneAlarm Internet Security is a terrific way to add that extra protection to your wifi web browsing.

Spam - it just never stops

Spammers would make Winston Churchill proud. They just never give up! Spammers have taken a new approach and are using Google Sites in their arsenal for assaulting inboxes.

Google has produced a range of online applications to replace Microsoft Office and the spammers have targeted Google Docs, Google Page Creator and Google Calendar as spam hosting facilities. Google Sites is a tool that allows web pages to be created quickly and easily. Spammers have now come up with a way to use this program to automatically create web pages with randomly generated URLs which makes it harder for filters, blockers and anti-spam tools to identify and block the sites as spam or rubbish websites.

Fake Adobe Flash Players

Since the dawn of computers software piracy has been a problem for vendors. Consumers were often presented with cheap, fake software that was obviously a pirated version of the original.

Now though, the tables have turned. Massive software company Adobe, has warned people to steer clear of fakes, and not for the traditional reason. It seems that hackers have now taken over the role of providing pirate software, except now they are embedding the fake software with malware that allows them to hijack the computer for their own use.

Without the knowledge of the person who installed the software, it's possible for the hackers to turn the computer into a robot that might send spam, or worse, control the computer to send back personal data to the hacker.

Adobe has warned that its software has become victim of such scams and recommends that people only download its Flash player from Adobe.com to ensure the version of Flash that is downloaded is hack free.

Cyber crime a significant threat to business

A group in Ireland has estimated that the "black cyber economy" is worth 340 million euros a week and is now a threat to legitimate businesses.

The black cyber economy refers to the growing industry of hackers, scammers, fraudulaters and other dubious business operations that act outside the law.

The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises lobby group predicts jobs will be lost and firms will be forced to close unless action is taken to stop the spread of the illegal operators.

More than half the small businesses in Ireland were victims of crime at least once last year. The trend is for crime to increase as economies slow down and financial pressures bite.

Much of the world's hacking originates from Eastern Europe but people and companies in the more affluent countries are often the targets.

Safari just not up to security scratch

Certain groups are now encouraging users of Apple's browser Safari to ditch it in favor of a browser that supports anti-phishing protection, such as Firefox 3 or Opera.

Although the anti-phishing protection offered in the abovementioned browsers aren't a 100% guarantee of protection, they do allow users to minimize their exposure to fraud and phishing scams that operate on the web.

ZoneAlarm ForceField is a terrific add-on to internet browsers because it allows web surfers to quickly analyze a site to see if it's on a reported scammers list, or if it appears to have the same characteristics of sites that are on the list. ZoneAlarm ForceField is available on this site for instant download and it works great with Internet Explorer and Firefox.

It's all in the cloud

Cloud computing is the new trend of 2008. There are typically two options for software companies to deliver their online software: firstly they can buy a number of expensive servers and host all their required information themselves, or they could rent a "cloud" which allows them to hire space on someone else's server at a much lower cost per gigabyte.

Up until now software companies have typically chosen to provide the delivery themselves because it's much easier to control the quality, the outages and the security of the service. For instance, an internet security company can provide updates to its products directly so when people update their anti-virus software it's coming directly from the software vendor.

Now, with cloud computing the software vendor can scale much more rapidly, meaning that even though the number of users might grow quickly, the service level won't be compromised because the cloud just keeps growing at the same cost per gigabyte.

Expect to see a lot more software being delivered from the cloud in the coming months, and definitely the next year.

Google incorrectly identifies blogs as spam

Even though Google does try very hard to root out the prolific spam that's engulfing the internet, it has faced stiff criticism this week for incorrectly labelling innocent blog sites and spam. What's worse, the mega-company locked access to the sites.

Spam blogs, known as splogs, have become very popular recently and they not only chew up valuable bandwidth, but also create nightmares for the hosts, who often offer the services for free.

However, Google's blogging service, known as Blogger, mistakenly flagged a number of legitimate sites, inciting user anger and annoyance.

Google has blamed a bug in its code but the problem is thought to be severe, as Blogger has many thousands of bloggers who might have been affected.
