Flavors of sweet summer melon with a hint of brightness in the finish. Exceptionally well balanced with an almost creamy mouthfeel.

Located more than a days drive from Lima, this unique coffee comes from the northern region of PERU, a breathtaking region filled with coffee producing communities along the slopes of the Andes Mountains. This area is well known for producing highly sought out quality coffee.

This Andes Reserve is a blend of coffee from the various communities around the state of Lambayeque and San Ignacio that make up organized cooperative groups. With the help of PROASSA, these cooperatives are able to commercialize their product for a direct sale to Zingerman’s importer in New York. Like many coffee producing countries, Peru’s coffee production is driven by the small farmers, the majority own less than a few acres. When these producers come together with the help of an exporter, their coffee is milled, analyzed for quality, and made available for the international market. Without such access to foreign markets, coffee producers would earn much less for their product by selling into the local /national coffee market. Peru HB Andes Reserve is a unique coffee that comes from the hard work of remote coffee farmers and the expertise of a professional exporter, all with the mission of commercializing their product to improve the quality of life of farmers, developing the communities in which they live, and protecting the natural environment they live in and depend on for their livelihoods.

Created for chef Alex Young at Zingerman’s Roadhouse, this very special blend is the outcome of months of collaboration and tasting between Chef Alex and roaster Allen Leibowitz. Designed to complement food, it emphasizes body and balance over sharpness and acidity. It finishes with a very slight nuttiness and is by far our most popular blend.

This lovely East African coffee was immediately a stand out on the cupping table.

Our first cupping notes were “white grapefruit! juicy, creamy, orange zest”. On cooling, the coffee had a complex fruit finish with notes of peach. The big bright fruit flavors are perfectly balanced by the equally rich and creamy body. It’s a great example of the unique character of East African coffees.

This coffee is grown at 1,845 meters in the Nyamashake District of western Rwanda.

Filadelpho Juarez received a bag of his roasted coffee in Honduras. This is the first time he’s seen his coffee in a retail bag. It has his name on our label. Thanks to our friends at Union MicroFinanza for everything.

Andrew Boyd, Director of US Operations for Union MicroFinanza had this to say: “He immediately started talking about how his coffee will be even better this year and called his father to tell him that he should get his best coffee together as well. That is what it is all about! When a daily task of labor becomes one of pride, hope becomes contagious and is expanded. Instead of father telling son the way it has always been done, son tells father that new opportunities abound. Thank you to Zingermans and all who made this happen.”
