Youth Venture India’s new Emerging Changemaker Institute offers university students the opportunity to be on the front lines of social change in India for 10 weeks.  The classrooms are the streets of Bombay; the teachers are Changemakers who create real impact throughout all segments of society.  In studying change alongside those who make it, students will develop their own skills of leadership, empathy, initiative, and teamwork - the skills needed to become a Changemaker.

Now there’s an accelerated path to get the funding we need.

Globalgiving.com, the excellent site that connects individual donors with organizations around the world, has launched a matching funds campaign called Give More - Get More.   From now until 1st December, the more people donate, the more Global Giving donates on top of that. If we earn up to US$2500, GG will match 30%.  Up to $7500, GG spots 40%.  And $7500 and beyond, Global Giving will match 50%!  Plus,

the three projects that raise the most money will receive additional bonuses of $5,000, $3,000, and $1,000. The same goes for the three projects with the  greatest number of unique donations– they will also be awarded bounty funds of $5,000, $3,000, and $1,000.

That means that if a bunch of people give just a little bit, we stand to earn big money.  So log in, give what you can, and get your friends to do the same! This is your chance to make a huge impact.  But take action now - the campaign only lasts until 1st December.

Vijeyta empowers school children to take ownership of their education.

Vijayeta’s Venture - My Education, My Voice

Vijayeta is from Patna, Bihar, currently pursuing her Masters in Social Entrepreneurship in Mumbai. Her experiences during school and undergraduate years has disillusioned her about the system of education in India. What baffled her was the fact that children have no say in their own education! She envisioned a portal or a platform where children would be able to send their doubts, queries, suggestions and opinions across; a space that would use this information to work on the educational system for the students’ benefit. So began My Education, My Voice where Vijayeta and her team go out to schools and ask students about their opinions and suggestions on the education system. They have already visited three schools in Chembur, Mumbai where a total of 1100 students participated. Vijayeta and her team encouraged the students to write post cards to the authorities. My Education, My Voice is going to send these postcards to the Human Resources Development Ministry, the National Council of Education Research and Training, the Maharashtra State Education Minister, the Prime Minister as well as the President of India. Taking a step forward Vijayeta has set up a site (http://www.myeducationmyvoice.co.nr/), where students can post their suggestions and comments. Using all the information they have collected the team will develop newsletters also to be sent to the authorities. Vijayeta says the purpose of this initiative is “to empower students in the whole process by providing them the forum through which they can channelize their ideas”. Now students have the opportunity to be proactive and play a part in the future of the Indian educational system.

Bhavana’s Venture - Bal Kalyan

With an old blackboard received as donation, Bhavana started her Venture of teaching the children from her village. She felt the necessity to bridge a need gap as quality of education imparted in the local school was poor. She started tuition classes for these children making learning more fun through singing, games, toys and other activities like hiking. Her initiative has drastically improved their learning capability and has increased their zeal for studying. Seeing the transformation she has been able to bring about, support has been forthcoming from within her community. From being a lone crusader she now has a team of 15 members. She believes if more people join this crusade in her district it will trun around the whole area for the better. Bhavana feels with the new improved education in her village, the children will progress in their life. She also thinks that the youth should motivate the parents to send the children to study hence making the future brighter for the next generation.
