Call for Papers - Youth Cultures, belongings, transitions: Bridging the gap in youth research

Griffith Centre for Cultural Research and The Australian Sociological Association Sociology of Youth Thematic Group are proud to co-host Youth Cultures, belongings, transitions: Bridging the gap in youth research.

This three-day conference will seek to map the connections between youth cultural practice and youth transitions. The Convenors welcome individual paper and panel proposals that seek to combine or rework the theories and perspectives of cultural and transitions youth research. Papers may focus on, but are not limited to, the following topics:

Youth and ageing
Gender and ethnicity
Local and global identities
Leisure
Lifestyle practices and culture industries

Zig Zag Training - Sexual Violence and Young People

ZigZag Young Women’s Resource Centre is holding training for workers who are interested in exploring sexual violence issues, particularly in connection to work with young women. We realize that workers in many settings deal with the issue of sexual violence and we hope this training will help to explore some of the challenges this area brings.

Professional Practice Supervision – A Community of Learners Developing Practice Supervision Champions in the Sector

Building on from the 2 day ‘Supervision for High Performance’ workshop held in November 2011 participants now have the opportunity to further extend their knowledge and build confidence through a learning community. The community of learners is a collaborative journey which allows participants to explore topics of interest related to professional practice supervision. This aims to build capacity and knowledge to support participants to become professional practice supervision champions in the community services sector.

Youth Advocacy Training for Youth Workers

The Youth Advocacy Centre is available to offer free legal education sessions to groups of clients at youth services. They are able to offer training for youth workers with a lawyer and social worker from YAC on hand to explain the ins and outs of the law around:

Working with clients – confidentiality and negligence
Demystifying the legal system and how it works
Demystifying the child protection system and how it works
Practical info on supporting young people in police interviews
Your rights and responsibilities when working with Police

Trainings can be organised to run from a couple fo hours to several days, and charges are negotiable. For more infomation, contact Toby Davidson at YAC on toby@yac.net.au.
