By Charlene M Brown

So many times we talk about all of the changes we want to make. Whether it’s our clothes, our bodies, our kitchens, or our cars—we are obsessed with constantly moving toward some “other” time-space-reality.

Yet, so often, we find so many things that we think we need to do before we get to the point of actually doing what we say we think we want to do. That last sentence was a bit of a mouthful, so let me break it down for you.

We create obstacles to change.

There, I said it!

Instead of just doing the thing that we desire, we dance all around it without ever actually doing it.

What if, instead, we started wherever we are now!?

That’s a pretty big concept packed into a small amount of words.

Life is a sum of the little tiny decisions you make every day. You didn’t accidentally stumble to where you ARE now, without first making a series of tiny decisions in this particular direction to get you here.

In order for you to move in a different direction, or even stay moving in same the direction, you have to choose to do so. But it doesn’t have to be some far-off decision down the road. No, not at all.

In order for you to move in any direction at all, you must start where you are!

There will always be an OVER THERE that you could worry about. Why not instead focus on RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. Why not be fully present wherever you are!?

I was reminded of this phenomenal concept several times in the past week or so. The first (which is really the second because of hindsight), was while I was thinking about all of the things that have yet to be completed—all of the things I have started but not finished.

I could think about their “undone-ness” until I am blue in the face, but that is not getting them done, now is it!? Or, instead, I could pick up whichever task is right in front of me and see it to completion! Then move to the next task that my hand touches.

That starts with a decision. If I commit that whatever I am touching is what I am working on right now, I actually accomplish things instead of thinking about all the things left unaccomplished!

You see how that works!?

The second lesson—which was really the first, because I didn’t realize it was second until I took a second look at the other one (do you follow all of that? Lol),–was a friend of mine who had been using one of my e-courses with her daughter. In her feedback, she said, “Charli, you need to take the first one, ‘start where you are’ and say that every four weeks!” So I am taking her advice and upgrading the e-course.

But more than that, I am taking her advice and passing it along to you. Whatever it is, START WHERE YOU ARE!

That is all!

PS: Btw, If you want this e-course, Getting Back to Consciousness, so you too can start where you are, click here or see below!

Easy laughter goes round in circles
Niece-child the love of both of our lives
Hiccups giggling their way through long distance cables
A forgotten fruit
Light darkness settling around our shoulders
Children taking notice of the love spread over continents
Worlds apart, yet as one
Relaxing into the sound of her voice
Sister-Woman leading different lives
Yet
BEAUTIFUL

In White Christmas, one of my favorite movies, there is a song that goes, “When you’re in bed and cannot sleep/count your blessings instead of sheep/ . . . Then you’ll fall asleep, counting your blessings . . .”

Great movie, great song, but sometimes those blessings are hard to see. Sometimes they are disguised!

There are two things I want to share about this.

First, many things happen that seem at the time to be an “inconvenience” but end up turning into a golden opportunity.

For example: I know a couple who met because there was no other seat for the gentleman to sit on the bus down to a protest. Forty years later they are as happily married as ever. How could he have known that taking that one seat would shift his life so dramatically? A blessing disguised as an empty seat on the bus.

I got a “this is my new girlfriend” introduction from a good male friend of mine. And I was in BITCH mode! I gave her a fake, mildly polite smile and didn’t speak to her for the entire ride back to my apartment where male friend was dropping me off. I saw her at some point later and purposefully didn’t speak even though she smiled and waved at me! A year later, when she was still in my friend’s life, we ended up spending some time together and she is now also one of my closest friends! This was a blessing disguised as a jealous female friend (me!).

Have you ever had something go “wrong” in your day only to find out later that it was “right” all along? Have you ever blown a tire and had to get it repaired only to meet someone that you have a continued or lifelong connection to or find out that there was a terrible accident exactly where you going?

Or perhaps you met your significant other or best friend doing some task that you usually hate!

I met a woman recently at the laundry mat and we were like two kindred spirits. But generally, I abhor going to the laundry mat and she felt the same way. But if we both had not been there at that exact time, we wouldn’t have met at all! This one was a blessing disguised as dirty laundry!

My second thought on this is that we get exactly what we ask for, nothing more or nothing less, but it is usually not in the package we had in mind. This is a blessing disguised too.

Have you been asking for more challenge and suddenly come upon a very trying situation? Or wondered when you were going to have time for yourself and something suddenly dropped out of your life? These are also examples of blessings disguised.

The blessing here is sometimes simply knowing that you will always get what you ask for if only you are open to receiving it and recognizing it when it comes!

Try looking at it in a different way. Try taking a new perspective!

Do You Love Your Life Now!? I DO! (Because I am learning to see my blessings for what they really are!)

I have a friend who is always pushing me. He believes in me more than I believe in myself sometimes. Our relationship has grown and evolved so much, sometimes it’s hard to believe!

He pushed me to go to an event that I would otherwise not have attended. But I did! And it was GREAT!

The people I met there were awesome! And we played a Jeopardy game, which was a lot of fun! I even won it! When I started out the evening, I was a little nervous, but I walked away feeling wonderful, and having faith in people again!

And all because my friend pushed me to go to this meeting!

He is wonderful and a necessary addition to my life. But so was pushing the baby bird out of the nest and encouraging her to go to a meeting where she might be uncomfortable—also wonderful and a necessary addition to my life!

By Charlene M Brown

We’ve all heard about the woman who is so stuck on her past relationships that she can’t see the good man right in front of her. Or the man who LOVES his woman, but can’t seem to stay faithful to her. These stories are not new.

But here’s the thing, emotional baggage is not just about emotions. There is a physical component too!

If you go by the theory that your surroundings are a reflection of your state of mind, I would bet than when you feel emotionally cluttered, your personal space is cluttered too.

I KNOW this is true for me and I certainly come by it naturally and get it from my mother (and my grandmothers for that matter). No matter how hard I try, my personal spaces usually have some amount of clutter to them.

So it’s no real surprise that sometimes my thoughts are cluttered and crowded too!

And I’d bet that this is true for you too!

Sometimes clearing the emotional clutter begins with clearing the physical baggage first.

For me, everything has to have a specific place. If it doesn’t have a place to go, it’s going to get put anywhere. And that builds up until I can’t take it anymore and can’t think in my own space at all. Then I usually go on a cleaning/clearing rampage and air out my space. But then, unfortunately, I acquire more things that need places.

And the cycle repeats.

Truthfully, I feel better when my space is clear and I like that feeling. But here is where the emotional clutter comes into play. Somewhere deep down inside of me I LIKE the clutter! There I said it!

Yes, I like the clutter and use it as a crutch to make excuses for not doing things. Especially things that would be beneficial to me. This is a programmed response to the clutter. Somewhere along the way, I took comfort in the clutter, the extra padding, if you will.

This is a form of a wall that I have built for myself. It serves the same purpose as comfort food for my psyche.

The trick is to take that deeper look and figure out why I feel like I need the extra padding. Is it because I am afraid of relationships? Is it because I am comfortable being intimate with myself and no one else, or does it go even deeper than that? Is it a fear of not being good enough?

Perhaps, on some level it is all of those things! I have come a LOOOONNNNGGGGGG way toward clearing my space, my energy and my psyche. But because I can still ask these questions and know that there is some TRUTH in them, means that I still have work to do.

I can say, “Hey, I forgive all those things that have happened in my past.” I can focus on all of my blessings in the present and be grateful for all of the experiences I have had in my life. And I can create lasting change in my own attitude as I look to the future.

Sometimes the key to emotional garbage is to throw it in the trash and leave it out on the curb!

Do You Love Your Life Now!? I Do (because I work at it!)!!

The main difference between being single and being in a relationship is preparation and openness!
No, really!
So many people—and I’m going to talk to us ladies, here—so many of us say we want to be in a relationship, yet we refuse to change our ways.
I’m not saying that we have to change ourselves [...]

So many people—and I’m going to talk to us ladies, here—so many of us say we want to be in a relationship, yet we refuse to change our ways.

I’m not saying that we have to change ourselves in order for a man to want to be in a relationship with us. Not at all. I am saying that if we do the same thing we have always done, we’re going to get the same results we’ve always gotten!

We say we want a man, yet we continue to be workaholics who don’t go out and have any fun. Or we go out with the same (usually also single!) girlfriends we went out with last weekend and hit the same clubs we usually go to!

Beautiful, how are you ever going to expect change to come if you aren’t willing to change!?

If a relationship is something you seek, you have to go inward and get some questions answered first!

Like why have your past relationships not worked out? And is there a pattern to the men you have been dating? Are there things you said you would never settle for, yet found that you have?

You can ask yourself questions until you are blue in the face. But really being honest when you answer them is the key.

In my own life, I found that after I had been in the same relationship like 5 times in a row, all the finger-pointing I was doing ultimately came back to ME! The common denominator was ME! I was making the same poor decision over and over again and wasn’t learning my lesson.

Until I was willing to change that habit, my outer circumstances were going to keep repeating themselves.

I promise you this is true for you too! Being willing and open to change can go a loooonnnnngggggg way in tearing down your barriers to a relationship. When you prepare the way, the right partner will come.

But believe you me, it DOES require preparation!

Do You Love Your Life Now!? I Do! (Because I am learning to be open to changing myself!)

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
‘Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
